joining from inside LAN will pose the same problems to their friend as to them, if the router does not support hairpinning (not what loopback typically refers to, very similar concept though) @austere mountain

there are workarounds to not having hairpinning, most of them are more complex than having a less shitty router

actually probably easier to join from the same PC via loopback, that does work, router never involved 🤔

if you mean someone outside your network, you have to forward ports. basically telling the router to send unknown incoming connections to a specific port to your server machine instead of splatting on the firewall (NAT, technically)

you may find a section specifically mentioning game hosting, or mentioning port forward/port opening/NAT related settings

step one is assigning a static (unchanging) LAN IP address to your PC. that can be done in the PC's network config, but is often possible from the router as well. then you make a rule in the router to forward traffic on a particular a port (say, 7777 for ark) to the PC's static IP, and choose which protocol it applies to (UDP, for ark and most games)

note, most "port checker" tools dont successfully ping open UDP ports, there is nothing there to reply. they are looking for something using TCP and by extension HTTP

Then it was going to be made in February before SE by a 3rd party with gigantoraptor as Shasta needed more time and gigantoraptor was alot quicker to make. Plans fell through with this 3rd party, center went back to its original slot which gave them time to have the Shasta ready for it, and since it was completed, they released the gigantoraptor on its own as a sort of apology for the whole thing

I have a GeForce 1660 TI - definitely towards the lower end of minimum specs, but still within them, not to mention I've read about graphics cards a good deal better than mine still having the crash.
