My argy bugged and could only fly up. It just went in circles. up and up until it hit the sky barrier. It ignored follow and land commands. It wasn't until a server crash/restart that it unbugged and I was able to rescue it.

My wife and I have come to the conclusion that we won't be buying ASA. In case anyone at SWC or Snail are watching, here's why (hopefully some constructive sensible feedback that they can take on board)...

1. Many authors of mods we like to use in ASE have stated that they won't be porting them to ASA for various reasons. Some of these mods are required for some of our group to play since they have motor control disabilities. Others are QoL mods that allow us to play more casually since we all have jobs, lives, etc.
2. The system requirements. While my wife's and my PCs should be able to manage, coming in at just below the recommended specs, many of our gaming group from ASE and other games are not so lucky. Since my wife and I generally guide which games the group plays (and I typically host the servers) it's not worth buying game that the group can't play.
3. Being locked into Nitrado for server hosting, and Nitrado's refusal to offer the 10-slot option for ASA.
4. Lack of support for mod-maps on Nitrado servers (which would likely have been resolved by now if there were any competition)
5. Lack of clarity around the ability to self-host cross-play servers, and the ability for steam & xbox players to play together on the same server. Some of the group have xbox-s/x/ps5 and might play there instead... but no point if they can't cross-play on our server or with us on steam

I could go on about less tangible concerns such as the apparent lies told about hosting on the lead up to launch, the claim to be fixing legacy issues in the remake only for many of them to still be present, etc. but honestly, those are mostly peripheral concerns besides those listed above.

I wouldn't say nobody... I would happily play it with my group if the mods we want were available and the system specs weren't too much for most of the group at the moment. At this point though, we have enough other options (7DTD, Empyrion, Valheim, etc.) to not need to spend out on a game that only 20% of our gaming group can run on their PCs.

If/when we get clarity around the xbox cross-play with steam (and whether we can host our own cross-play servers) we might re-evaluate. By then I suspect there will be more mods available too.

i wish i had some experience on self hosting to give some feedback on this conversation. the only thing i can say is there are a lot of people in the beacon discord who manged to figure it out and they are not using quantum computers to host it

It's really simple, I could even send you the single line to put in a batch file, then you just run the batch file and it does the install. Every time you run that then it updates. Then there's a separate command line to put in a second batch file that starts the server. Opening the ports is pretty trivial as well. There's some really great YouTube directions out there that are less than 10 minutes.

@heavy cedar server crash, which still happens frequently, makes structure timer to 12 hours. So Structures NEVER get destroyed in PVE servers. Because the Server crashes every 12 hours 100%.

My dude I have been running on the same box for 5 years wit ASE and now with ASA. Your theoretical argument is crap and doesn’t hold up to actual experience.

If you have a reasonably modern PC and enough RAM it’s just not an issue. And ram is cheap.

You only run into problems when you try and put either a bunch of mods or a bunch of people on. But if you are running trying to run a non-dedicated anyway you don’t have the people issue.

Dedicated on ASE consumes less than 2G. On ASA it’s 10G.

That would put you closer to the minimum memory requirements for just running ASA. If you are that close that’s the whole reason behind tether distance.

It really comes down to this. Tether distance is a resource limiter for the computer running the server. It’s there for potato computers that want to host. If you remove it you are just running a server on your local machine.

I think Nintendo should get away from mobile and console cross breed style and just get back to a outright console. I haven't seen a good enough product out of them since N64, Regular and Super Nintendo.

Yes, headshots are something you can do with any tame just as you would. Whichever part you attack while on a mount effects damage scale on ASA.

And trikes have always had headshot resistance so it better to aim for their leg if they run toward you.

Unfortunately no idea. The devs already barely managed to launch the game by the end of November and it was one of the rockiest launches ever. The game is not even finished yet, that's why we are getting constant patches to address memory leaks and crashes.
