Devs remake games all the time. How many times have you bought skyrim? The witcher? Nintendo has remade zelda, metroid, etc.

It really sounds like there's a lot of QOL, mod support (which consoles have never had) and a whole new engine (which is a TON of work). Ark 2 + Ark 1 as a live service game for $40 sounds pretty damn good to me.

The sheer amount of dinos and just random ideas thrown into the mix (large tame-based combat, weaponry, lots of gimmicks and such. The core stabbing and shooting might not be the most complex, but the sheer variety of things that do those things with slight (or sometimes not slight) differences is what seems to give it depth. Quantity of things versus extreme quality of depth in each one
