There's some launch options in steam for ark you may find useful. Depending on the error, particularly if it's buffer overflow or out of bounds

Now that Ark 2 is basically non existent, how about improving Ark (the existing game). Starting with the Gen 2 alpha missions. So many of these are near impossible for people with slower computers or on multi servers due to lag. Maybe adjust times or damage etc a little bit to at least let some of us actually complete the game. It really ticks me off how every individual in the tribe has to complete all missions. Its really unfair to some. The only boss that eludes me on the server I play on.

non-dedi is for playing and hosting on the same computer/console. you'll get tether and its closer to singleplayer in terms of bugs and certain changes.
dedicated is a server that is typically on a different device from the one you are playing on.

You need three things:

1. A gacha that produces element dust. Ideally, you want lots of gachas that produce element dust (Remember to keep each mated pair far away from the other mated pairs or they get sad) Train their crafting skill to around 160
2. A greenhouse that's producing lots of Plant Species Y (I find 18 is a good number. If you've got the infrastructure/ability, put all the Plant Y in tek crop plots)
3. Just like, a bunch of snow owls

Feed your gachas the plant species y and snow owl pellets. Wait for resources to roll in. if S+ is an option, you can automate a lot of the collection/distribution. If not... you're going to have to get your hands dirty

As an added bonus, you can grind all the crap loot your gachas produce for additional free resources

Only other way to get dust in any appreciable amount is waiting for a dust night on Genesis 2 and scooping a lot of it up with a stryder, or taking a chainsaw to a lot of robots on extinction/gen1/gen2

some caves have fairly tight spaces and spots where you don't want your tames running ahead

like the water in the cave you're wanting to start with

just run around a bit first to level the sabers in hp and md, plus a bit of stamina and weight for the one you'll be riding

I went to server list and there's all sorts of official, but also a lot of unofficial.

1. I'm used to Rust 3x servers or so.
2. I want to PvE
3. How do I tell what mods a server is using when clicking on it in the list? - Do I automatically download them when joining?
4. Most of the unofficial have square boxes (foreign text?) - Are there official 3x servers or something, with maybe some QoL mods?

Or maybe I should just be playing on my own server - looking to play with a few of my mates.

I would say play on official to have a proper ARK expericence. Also, don't skip that initial noob phase, getting punished in the early days shape you into a better survivor. getting into a server you can craft an amazing base, tame super dinos on your first day may sound fun in the short term, but it's always more rewarding having to fight to get some cool stuff. PvP on ark is very unbalanced, specially for new players, so PvE should be the way. I would say play on regular servers. Every now and then there are events with higher rates even on regular servers. It also gives you more freedom to play between different maps/DLCs and transfer stuff between them.

There are some servers called "Small Tribes" with higher rates, don't know how rates compare to Rust, though.

Make sure not to play on ARKpocalypse servers, those get wiped every 30 days, they're for people who want a very specific experience.

Official also have box tribes, not much we can do about it.

If I had to guess since you're pretty late into your playthrough you might've hit the spawn limit and need to cryo some of your dinos or kill some dinos in the area of bee spawns, it could also be because of structures nearby spawns but I don't know the effects of that

I'm trying and failing to find the right balance with imprinting and raising dino settings. When I bring the imprinting interval down, I do 3 imprinting tasks, get to 50% imprinted and then it's fully grown. When I crank up the interval, I can get it all done in one imprint task, but 90% of the time the dino is fully grown before i can even do the first task

is there another setting I'm missing to increase the potency/efficiency of the imprinting tasks?

I appreciate it. Was working with argies. I did some googling and it looks like there’s a golden ratio that needs to be kept for some of the larger dinos, or else they grow faster than you can imprint. 10 growth speed and .1 imprint interval was what I heard is best for big dinos

Yeah I saw similar in a video I watched. I'm pretty sure the mature speed on mine was 12 (it auto rounds it down to 11.999). I can't remember the other settings off the top of my head

The settings I use definitely work for argies, rexes and deinos. As those are the 3 I've got round to trying so far

best bet is to set BabyImprintAmountMultiplier=1000 in game.ini, this will make a single imprint give 100% then you can set BabyCuddleIntervalMultiplier=0.001 which should allow imprint very quickly after the baby hatches then you can set mature speed to whatever
