I've played this game since launch in 2015, and decided to try offical PvE for the first time. For the love of god the official network is an unstable cesspool of awfulness. The gen 2 server I was on from time to time would crash every hour or two, I've lost my entire inventory several times and now I just lost my tribe on my home server. I can't imagine playing this game on the official network long term.

There shouldn't be drops? You have crates you can buy with hexagons but they drop right into your inventory

As far as starting out- Don't immediately go for missions. Do your basic setup first- Build a base, build up some creatures, etc etc. Pick your favorite biome. All of them have pros and cons to living in- Swamp's easy but has the swarms you have to deal with in some way or another, snow's cold and overrun with wolves, ocean's an ocean, etc

Race missions are the only ones where whatever you're bringing to the mission doesn't matter. All the rest, you want decent gear and creatures- A bary is not going to cut it except for gamma, especially wild-caught

Baryonyx if you're trying to go for something semi useful- Good cave runners, you're not screwing up a potential boss tame as you learn how breeding works
