It can be but honestly a lot of people who start at the post office do not realize how difficult it is. I always thought the mailman had an easy job. It's not. When you first start you're something called a PTF, you're not even a "regular" mailman. you have a 90 day probation period and they will haze the fuck out of you to try to get you to quit. Not even kidding. Everyone goes through it. The managers can be so fucking shitty sometimes. And when you first start you don't get your own route. You get random portions of 5+ routes. The post office also has a contract with the government where they can work you every single fucking day and never give you a break. Longest I did was 15 days in a row. My coworker did more than 20 days in a row I think it was like 26? Anytime you see a postal truck out on a Sunday, that's a PTF. Every Sunday, every holiday they are out doing packages. A lot of people cannot handle it and they quit. As a PTF you're put on a seniority list. I started at number 67 I think? They convert people in groups of five to up to 10 depending on route availability. I had to wait a little over two years to finally convert to a regular mail carrier. Then they can't touch you lol and if they try to be shitty after you have converted you can go to the union and file a grievance to get them off your back. So apply at your own risk! It pays really fucking well, benefits are really good, you will be able to retire comfortably. But you need to be ready for one of the most physical jobs you have ever worked in your entire life. My very fucking first day at the station I was at as a PTF, I had this piece of shit dude say to me "wanna know why I haven't asked you your name? Cause I don't give a fuck. You probably won't be here long". The people at that station were assholes and they would place bets on the PTF for how long they would last hehhehehe I take great joy in knowing some motherfuckers lost money betting I wouldn't make it 😄
