coming along great i’m going to post some here in a little
Ah ok
awesome, im not even gonna be done with my 1200 frame day processing wise and a promising place with a local friend/guide is possibly on my agenda for tomorrow
and i might be going shooting soon today
oh god 😂
how are you going to edit that all
by my mom constantly telling me she wants to see the photos i get
#1 motivation to get it done
well, that’s good motivation
My parents do the exact same
what im watching rn
i’ve gotta let the osprey beat me because i need water
do they just sit there for. hours
right at noon. they are most active early morning and evening
i did get him in flight, but not diving
ah ok
which is my goal
good luck and if u get it show me
@slender zenith this is all i really ended up keeping from yesterday, a lot of it was really noisy or blurry
2nd 5th and 6th are my favs
blur and noise pretty normal in the d3000 series
the blur was because i forgot to adjust my shutter speed
yeah
the noise was only because i had thw wrong metering on so everything was underexposed
otherwise the pics would still be usable
how it goes
gonna go out again probably around 6:30
goodluck
idk where im going to go
actually
i might go to a big garden by my house, probably a ton of birds there, and flowers.
just wish i didnt have to go alone
less presence of people more birds
bird was a bit camera shy
fun walk out though with all the birds around
think i spotted a pileated woodpecker
ooooh
im starting to think people just hit species on ebird and say they saw it
i recognize them from past sightings, sometimes i use that to identify them though
there was this white woodpecker i seen too awhile ago
that’s so pretty
also robin ❤️
one if my favorites
also the bird that started my addiction to this expensive hobby

the bird that got me into it was the chickadees, i like robins too
i have a ton of robins near me
I hardly ever see robins
i got this one back in winter, i think its the best one i got of a robin
gotta sneak up on them
That one’s nice
thanks, theyre one of the smarter birds kind of like a mourning dove
im still hoping to find a cardinal
Wow we have the opposite problem then
You can literally go anywhere where I live and find a cardinal
I have at least 2 on my feeders at any time during the day
i have these bright yellow grosbeaks, and while i like them ive never seen a cardinal irl
Evening grosbeaks?
yeah
Oo nice they’re cool
i think best i got was the one i did on my canon powershot when i first dod photography
osprey already eating once i got here, will see if anything happens
offering me the best views
wish i'd had a longer lens for this one, i think it's a flycatcher but i'm not sure
thats a flycatcher. cool catch
they're neat little birds, and easier to get on a branch than warblers
warblers are Grade A pain in the butt
beautiful little things, emphasis on "little"
good luck getting it in the lens and in focus in the half-second it stays still
they stay still a whole half second for you?
only on Tuesdays!
must be some good snacks down there
my phone doesn’t know what a duck is
ill have to find my favorite duck pic later then
“duck”
bro what
not mine, its for an online game in another server where we crop and guess the car. i didn’t take those, just google images haha
oh ok
this was in winter below a dam, i think they were eating anything they could get
not much plant life to eat
true
cropped
@slender zenith remember when i was talking about the "shot" thats going to get me hooked
yeah... i got it today
Fun story, I was recently on a trip to the east coast where we get drift ice, but it was quite late in the season so most of it was gone. But one morning I saw a bunch of what I thought was drift ice on a river. And I shout at my partner "Look! Drift ice!" And they're all "What? Where?" And I point at the river. And then they say "That's not drift ice, those are swan butts."
yeah
🤣🤣
lmfao 😂
what do you think of the picture
i love this
Not from me. 😛
who shall i ping
@mild needle pin this
sir
dw i got it

ced will pin it
ty
screenshot forever
thr wing was out of focus because it was on single point focus but otherwise... good pic
should i not use single point
not for several subjects
can you remind me what modes the d3200 has
aperture helps but a single weighted focus point like that isnt much either unless its dead center
@quiet nexus i meant AF modes MB
yeah lol
You know I can delete your messages right? >.>

whos
I'm not gonna, but I could.
anyones
yes ced pin this
mod abuse uWu
yes, what message would u delete
This one 😛
#984588380681687090 message
oh
doesn’t mean i dont have it
still has the ss
they have the screencap that's the thing yeah
the hard drive of souvenirs
I do that all the time
That's a good point
yep
screencap
Still not pinning it 😛
no I am not
why
oh
either noisy or not sharp
had to crop a ton
probably wont keep this pic
let's find that idiotic deer from tonight
i will insert derpy deer for this occasion
bokeh
yes
you were pretty close I see
I took a derpy deer picture yesterday, but it was at dusk and so noisy I don't want to post it.
they are hella easy when they freeze at the sight of any car in a 69 mile radius
maybe if I don't move I will be left alone
all my successes with deer have been through my car window
i mean if i start moving they jump in fromt of the the car
idiots
Driving around Hokkaido is how I got into wildlife photography
whats Hokkaido
I literally had a deer walk, very slowly, in front of my car and just staaaaaaaaaare at me
deers are idiotic and we need to help natural selection
Northernmost island of Japan
oh
now take that and do it at 65 moh
mph
wait a min u live in japan?
we need to run em over until natural selection keeps the intelligent ones
summary of driving in Virginia, USA
rip your cap
car*
they breed to fast
Yeah, fortunately this was right in after I had pulled out of a parking lot so I was still going slow.
that's why driving tanks will become mandatory
Because at the time, my car's zero to 60 was "Yes."
Yes.
dude thats so cool
I mean... it's a place I live.
i know but to someone whos never been out of usa its cool
As soon as you can, travel. Totally worth it.
i live in indiana lol
Suzuki Every, aerodynamics and handling characteristics of a brick and the acceleration of a sloth on morphine.
idk. i wanna see canada and alaska
I live in Ohio, it’s doable
i have so many places i gotta see in the USA first
“Oh, deer”
run
is this keepable?
Oh yeah
because i got many more sharp and better ones
today i realized i 100% want to stick with wildlife photography
get those highlights turned down and definitely
it takes a lot of learning but once you get it tou get it
could try masking subject and doing it or selective brush the face and further adjust
i cant imaging the level of photo i could get when i get a longer lens
a super telephoto is a game changer
i woulda quit if i kept on going with a 70-300 any longer than i did
How long a focal length do you use?
Nah
im going to invest in a 150-600 like smoky probably
I use a 70-210 it’s limiting but the images can be nice
Just have to get closer to the bird
Will be looking at a prime 300 though
on a 70-300 this bird would have been a dirt spec
closest could physically get
and room for nice crop
getting something wigh a wide focal range like 200-500 or 150-600 is my recommendation for anyone looking to take wildlife and/or birding (especially birding) serious
300mm is the bare-minimum and still very challenging.
yeah
ever since i got my sigma i have used my 70-300 once. ONCE
only because i was doing sea scapes when i spotted a sea turtle so i didn’t bring the sigma that day
When a 600 becomes available on X-mount, I will likely sell my 100-400 and never look back
Maybe
bow sigma comes everywhere even a portrait session
Because the 100-400 is hot
im using eval metering and my pics of black birds keep coming out so underexposed i cant save it
i would use spot here but i dont want to change my metering every single photo
mind shooting me the raw
I also shoot aircraft, so anything I buy works for both ideally
A 600 would be nice for stuff up at 35K feet
you can kinda save the bird but it turns purple
yeah ill get on my laptop in a few
Redwings are a pain tbh
Swans are angrier, larger geese
any solid black or solid white bird is automatically a pain
does exposure comp effect raw in camera
idk i still do it by instinct
yea but it shouldnt bc im using eval metering
a cute bird
i don't have my copy of Sibley handy
google image not mine
no wonder i see so many of them
Possibly a female red-winged blackbird?
yeah
Oh, oops, way behind
lol\
Google lens is my savior
i suck at bird id
finches are about that size, ja
yeah
this is a type of swallow i forgot what
only small bird to let me get close
but unfortunately it was thick woods
as seen
Not to be too braggy, but I had to step back from this lil' fella to get focus.
The birds at that park were reeeeeeeally friendly
this moment was the highlight of my year last year
Hmmm
That is pretty cute
this is the one where i aaid only time i’ve touched my 70-300 since i got the sigma
This is an unedited version of my highlight of the year
@quiet nexus i think you were asking about the quality of my 70-300, that was it on my d3400
if i get an osprey diving before heading back home it will be highlight of my year
edited?
I'm out and about so I only have the original SOOC jpeg right now
Basically I just cropped it into portrait orientation because the colors were perfect.
i want something special on my portfolio
i think blackbears are good for that
i will be building a website soon so
yeah
im also gonna find experts to talk about as i want to do a native virginia wildlife series
i also want to do a photo research and article on the invasive nutria
so much i want to do
also want to do a series on virginia snake species
like right now i mainly do birds but my scope will be expanding significantly in the near future
if u need help lmk i know a lot about coding
like a lot

it's the eyes that make the humor
this is the largest gator i ever saw
i think. it looked huge from my perspective
on my d3400
and this gator honestly scared the living shit outta me, which is funny because down the walking path there were gators on both side.
at night with a 50mm prime
gopher tortoise
yes
heck yeah
Willets are so photogenic
awww
I got a good one of one of those blackbird today
hard to get the colour but I did this time
also encountered a new target
waxwing
aww
any time you are looking straight up it is hard to have good light
thoughts on this?
its nice, maybe it could have been angled slightly better but i know how hard birds can be for that stuff lol
baby birds are the hardest
i think im done editing this, i barely changed anything
i was just grabbing holes through trees i could get lol
thats what i figured, leaves might get in the way otherwise
there is one somewhere where i have all three have not gotten to it yet
the nest got in the way
i usually get the small birds when they just fly down but that also takes patience too
plus by then they have feathers
that one i like too
some day im hoping to get some swan photos
i think I may have herons around too
if you ever in sumter i think it is, south carolina they have a lake with the most types of swans in north america or something like that
pretty far from me lol, im in nova scotia in canada
some day i want to travel and photograph new animals
waterfowl in my home area are very few and far between
i was so excited to see one great blue heron
we have eagles, ducks, swans, geese, ospreys, swans and herons
i am on an island so it makes sense, lots of water
i have not seen an osprey reported in my area, eagles have been though in the cooler months
i am yet to see an eagle but my brother did
they are between hawks and bald eagles
yeah
i have some shots but they are in backlog for processing
they sound like a mouse with the chirp
still working on stuff from june 12
yeah its adorable
this guy was part of a nest and all three were chirping but i dont have a good nest shot
they build their nests up high i noticed
the one in my picture had a nest nearby above a powerline
no baby ospreys though, but you could kinda see them if they were there
ive seen nests at tops of tall cell towers
and one on top of a massive powerline at a dam
this one was the biggest most extensive nest ive seen but on an actual tree
just looked up what baby ospreys look like, now i have to see one some day lol
i love their eyes, both baby and adult
baby roseated spoonbill
the parents
roseate spoonbills are my personal favorite waterfowlss
i have not seen geese that young, did not know they started off as rubber duckies too
they look a bit funny with their beak, i dont think we have those around here but i recognize the pink
some geese are a grey fluff but canadian geese are yellow with some grey
a decent profile shot of one. some are more vibrant than others, this one actually quite pale
recently i got a photo of a baby blackbird, theyre one of the uglier birds when they are babies lol
normally they have this metallic color
bird i posted earlier with the blue head was an adult
metallic? Sounds interesting
this is the one i mean
its either this type of blackbird which was all over the place or this second type which is just a common blackbird
only see the blue in the light i find
cant think of another bird with this kind of colour, maybe a ruby throated hummingbird
Could it have been a grackle?
some day i dream to have a better setup
hopefully that day will come
dude i love this
the colors are amazing
any pink bird is beautiful
yeah, the common grackle
grackle
Every time someone mentions grackles I think of that one episode of Brooklyn 99 where Gina has to distract a nerdy guy by talking about birds and she compares grackles to Rihanna.
found this from, like, 6 months ago
hadn't meant for one to be flying, he just decided to leave
What lens you usually use
Wish I got more ravens here, they’re expressive subjects
come to my place, we got enough crows
crows? hit the nearest walmart parking lot
hi wildlife peeps
hey
on the road rn
well actually in a parking lot at moment but will be hopping on interstate shortly
local news did an article about a wildlife photographer locally and his work. he uses a speaker with bird sounds to re attract specific species that fly by. yall think this is cool or nah? kinda debated in ky head for awhile
I have zero problem with doing anything to attract animals
i mean it works, gets some cool stuff because of it
its not really an issue if one person does it ocasionally, becomes a problem when everyone does and it throws off their migration schedule or seperates them from more natural environments
then you get guys who hunt them in known areas and it becomes a mess
That's a good point, assuming that's actually possible
well just look at pigeons, seaguls and lots of other birds just roaming around people
sometimes people do it to regular wildlife and somoene ends up dead with the animal no longer fearing people, and usually they have to be shot or something
Yeah, that would suck
I was thinking bird calls
And dropping some acorns and walnuts in squirrel town
i think its actually prohibited to feed wildlife as in wild wildlife
not bird feeder bird
not so sure with making sounds to attract them though
We never feed directly
i think it is pretty frowned upon ethically though to bait animals just in general, but legality wise im not sure with the sounds, i know they sell deer whistles for hunters
say like an eagle sound for example, it wont hurt an eagle much being distracted, but what about a small songbird that would be prey to an eagle, may cause them to relocate or leave their babies, plus then there is a real eagle if it works
i mean if it’s ethical to use a bird feeder to attract birds is it any less ethical to use a sound to attract a specific bird on a one time occasion that you know is there, but wont pop out of the leaves?
hunters use calls. basically depend on them in some cases
difference is ones in a yard always
it could be considered baiting to pop one up in random spots, wouldnt say one time is a problem, just if everyone did it
love clearwater
same. sadly only for a day
my fam loves the aquarium so yeah
then we headed back to JAX
one of these days im headed to winter garden. i have a friend down there that’s gonna guide me to some cool wildlife along the lake
seen a green frog today
thank you!
I figured id crop the image I just posted in nature better, this small raccoon got spooked up a tree when I was taking its photo
was doing a bird feeder raid
im convinced im cursed with not catching ospreys in flight
i was about to capture an older juvenile (almost full grown) dive off a pole for an attempted catch when my mom called with car trouble’s
ultimate fml moment
I see you lol
thank you
Is that a fledgling great horned owl?
Ohh wait yes it is
Didn't see the parent in the background
hes so cute
just wish the whole head was in frame 😦
caught

dinner
unfortnately, my only other option for a better angle would have been illegally walking through a mosquito breeding clinic
i do sorta like it with his tongue sticking out
my three fav from that otherwise pretty failed day of shooting
Ospreys are cool
@slender zenith I'm actually going to florida in a couple of weeks
Can't wait to visit the beaches and everglades
lucky i wanna go more south
i am yet to catch my dream osprey shot this time round
gonna get it
It'll happen eventually
I also haven't been able to get my dream osprey shot
Something always gets in the way or my autofocus messes up
the osprey dont do anything when i actually have time to be there
almost adult juvenile
Ah yeah that's a pain
obviously not mine but what a shot
goals
a warbler sat still today
he was far away and in shadow, but he actually let me take his picture
this little chipping (?) sparrow was a lot more polite
you even getting to see it for over a half second is pure luck in and of itself
i don't know why, but they were very active today
little groups of three or four chasing each other
ive seen male ducks basically almost drown the female while fighting each other to do the duty
ducks are frightening, them and their corkscrews
never seen one IRL, looks like an aquatic turkey vulture
they are a florida exclusive as far as the north america continent goes i believe
i wish my phone knew what duck was would make life easier. everything here is from google not my work btw
Bagel fox
doesn’t make a bad wallpaper ngl
looks underexposed
very overcast
it might be slightly
its not like that when i open in photo app
idk why it did that
actual on top
weird
yeah
still does when i reset it
whack
its addicted to darkening it when set as wallpaper
weird
What color profile is the image saved as? sRGB or adobeRGB?
sRGB i believe
humm I'm not sure then.
hmm
contestant for my best vertical. sry for shit quality im on a dock rn
oo looks nice
i’m kinda sad
haven got to go out and shoot in a few days
because i have no whre to go
M e neither lol
pls do
yeah never got it
omg same for me. my first pic was of a young robin!
the osprey i was after didn’t show himself yesterday and it was probably my last chance
however i did get a heron and an egret eating fish
dm me them?
i have not edited them
this was a first for me
also have some sort of heron eating fidh
fish
i might go for another shoot before i edit them might be a minute
tasty golden hour
stalking a fisherman
lol egrets have some weird but funny poses
lol
@covert dust what do you think of this last one, 1/1250. despite the backlight i kinda like it ngl
I also dig it. The detail is quite nice, but the wing is a little too close to the top of the frame
ooo that's really nice!
thx!
i wish i could take pics like this
i just can’t zoom in enough and have to crop a ton so it’s horrible
and the noise on my camera sucks
I won’t zoom anymore 😅 A Canon 600 mm is on the way.
Same here.
That’s going to help out a lot
I don’t know what I would do without my 150-600
Hey, is anyone into Wildlife cameras or camera traps i plan to include these in my next trip for the jungle again last time forget to buy one but not to sure whats good and not good
Zion National Park
I had one where both were looking at me but it came out a little blurry
could someone tell me what to do because sometimes when i’m trying to focus on a bird far away it doesn’t focus cus the bird is too small
i use single point af or manual focus for that
then just adjust it if needed
might be named something different on nikon
Yo yo
hold on
It fits for my applications. Having only F11 is not such a big drawback. But I expected this regarding a R6 as a complimentary Camera Body.
minimal focus distance is quite long.
estimated from the experience today 5-6 meters.
i was pretty close to buying that lens for my r6 myself, seems pretty nice
i got the rf macro first
teleprimes seem fun
Nice pics
not quite what i was going after but it waved at me
Nice!
I've been feeling like I'm not improving in my photography lately, in part because I don't get harsh feedback so please, tear me to shreds, any improvements you think I could make would be really helpful
Lmao I’m a amateur but I’ll try
Well there’s lens flare top right unless it’s something else
the biggest thing for this shot is I didn't have proper diffused lighting
oh, you're right
HM
Would you be able to criticise some of mine?
sure
so hold on, let me get you a video
Those are two recent ones
This one’s cropped I can send the original if you wish
ugh I hope i saved this video lol
found it
In this presentation, Ian teaches you how to see the world in ways you never before imagined, drawing lessons from his critically-acclaimed hit book "Visual Flow: Mastering the Art of Composition." Visual Flow unlocks the composition secrets of the great masters, giving you the keys to create compelling and artistic photographs that will stand o...
Ooo looks useful. I’ll have a watch
so speaking very generally, those are great shots, though you're not sending them in full res
for the second one, and generally as a rule of thumb for nature photography, you want to accentuate your edits so that the eye pops
the second one also makes a common mistake let me find the term
Alrighty
terms to familiarize yourself with:
dynamic tension
photography distraction zone, and zone systems https://fstoppers.com/education/how-use-ansel-adams-zone-system-digital-world-417047
photographic edge merger https://www.outdoorphotographer.com/tips-techniques/photo-tip-of-week/composition-avoid-mergers/
the zone system is especially relevant when you're putting something in black and white
or otherwise doing heavy editing, or have a lot of control over how the light is hitting the shot
less often in wildlife photography
front and center is good for portrait style shots but otherwise you want an element of dynamic tension
because in a sense you're telling a story, not just taking a photo
it's not a hard and fast rule though ofc
especially when you're trying to lead the eye in a shot with movement, it's a helpful tool
I was doing some stuff I’m Back now
What was that term?
oh, edge merger and clutter on the border (distraction zone)
Ah okay
I thought that added depth
I was wrong
Alrighty thanks for the feedback
I think I took one that didn’t have clutter
I didn’t edit it though
@woeful stag any photos you want feedback on?
mostly the thing lacking in your shot is lack of a story
lemme show you some shots from a friend of mine
these aren't mine, I'm showing examples of how you can prompt curiosity in the viewer
Nice
awesome
from a technical perspective there's nothing wrong with them
a lot of photography is considering why something you're shooting appeals to a viewer
Ima start focusing more on composition
also the feedback that I'm giving you isn't stuff that I've fully incorporated into my own shots lol
im still learning too
Yh
Nice
This may just be personal opinion, but I feel the photos overwhelming Becuase of the amount of subjects flooding the image
That detail is amazing!
Highlights on the sand/dirt are a little strong though
Yeah, it's really contrasty.. editing is probably where I can make the most gains in terms of improvement
Except obviously humans
I know some pretty wild humans
found a few fledglings, pictures are hard to work with
I mean it's an animal :).
many, in fact
Not exactly photography but here’s a little video of a lost vulture fledgling that we’ve been trying to take care of. We don’t know if he just left his nest or was abandoned by parents.
These are two photos I found during a trip to an outer floridian island.
I love those! The squirrel is so cute
All of those are freaking epic
I had some awesome squirrel pics on my home pc..
I'll try to remember when I get back
Thanks guys! Wildlife is awesome 😆
Sadly seems like the low res versions got uploaded, but the general idea is there
Watching the other birds in the tree
That is crisp
That's such a great photo!
Birb photo
had this in my yard, only picture i got
I love the bird pic!
Thanks, one of my favorites!
thought this was a dove duo, but not quite
Haha definitely not a dove
Nice
Shit iPhone picture
If I remember correctly he uses a D500
I'd be scared for life after once being attacked by one
oo i see.. its an amazing camera..
I wonder where he went
first post
don't worry, I got one for you!
hello guys! Just got back from a trip to Africa. Got some nice pics which I will slowly share!
this one is my pride and joy
Here are a few from a recent safari trip. let me know what you think!
What lens were you using? Great shots!
Been on holiday by the beach, taken photos of all sorts of widlife, will post slowly, got a fuxk ton of manual exporting to so
