(1) Each edition updates the underlying rules, in terms of tabletop rules.

(2) The narrative accompanying it is usually the dressing for the new beginner's box set.

And yes, new miniatures is usually part of the beginner's box set too.

Armageddon is the name for the 11th edition launch box, like Leviathan was the 10th edition launch box and Indomitus was 9th editions
