Later 40k especially post Horus Heresy novel shifted toward tragedy and logic, not satire. That evolution matters. It's just complicated. I won't buy the words of some community perssonel at a Gear Workshop website to dictate everything to me.

Well it's progression gated, most people don't use XP on their curios. But moreso I think here that you're also maybe not giving it enough credit for being a tough game for new players. When I first played darktide I thought it was insane, legitimately scared of damnation difficulty. I imagine a lot of actual new players stay on lower difficulties because it's playable for them. Difficulties got reworked too a couple months back when we got rid of sedition or whatever the bottom difficulty was, so malice now is what heresy was.
