I think if you're a new player trying to see how heresy/damnation is, making 1 wound curio would help buffer you. Also if you're trying to do a run without dying for a penance, having a +1 wound can make you not feel so damned anxious about going down and being killed the next time.

like a lot of players have had the circumstance of getting trapped with being set on fire and immediately getting downed, and some stealth person rescues you mid-overhead so the moment you stand up the crusher slams down and there's your 2nd wound; or they rescue you AND THE FIRE IS STILL MELTING so you just die.

vet's melee game is really strong on any melee right now. it's really easy to make it good. but the class has got to compete with all the other classes and their melee gameplay. I've yet to see PS vets outdamage branxgryns... or zealots in general unless they're running the specific One Shot Melee Build
