2 took the building blocks off of 1 and actually did something with it. Made it legendary
Presequal had the building blocks, tried to work with it, but the project was pretty much abandoned by everyone except for a handful of people. So it came out crappy despite how awesome they did rehashing the playable characters.
Tales was an epic and goofy story
New tales suffered the touch of Sweet Baby, inclusivity overshadowing any aspect of compelling writing and character building. There were interesting aspects, but not enough
3 changed the formula way too much. It turned the loot hunting experience it a lite version. Tried too hard to hit nostalgia points
