Both can feel very ubiquitous on the surface to an end, but as you mention, darktide enforces how these interactions happen in more direct isolation imo that's communicated and required by the player to engage with more consciously.

In something like l4d2 and 1, players getting staggered was pretty contextual. You'd have to be getting hit from specific angles from specific attacks and what not.

Fast forward to darktide, we have a complete expansion of movement through sliding and sprinting as universal. But then players can experience stopping power at any time when the right mistakes are made and the right resources are exhausted.

And it can happen in melee combat as well when players get guards broken, lack stamina, and are stunlocked. It can happen for all kinds of reasons, yes. But, I think that it's one of the greatest strengths that darktide has when communicating critical failures for a player.

Like when you fuck up hard enough in this game with all the access to movement, damage, resistances, cc, etc that the player has access to, you get fucked.

Darktide really does want you and your squad to feel like it can take on these crazy things popping off in the game so you're given a greater scale of interaction in a way that communicates that evolution from vt2 into darktide.

Like a vt2 character couldn't hang in darktide and a and vt1 absolutely couldn't even dream of it. Those leaps of growth between each game are very clear and impactful, flaws and boons alike.

A darktide character in vt2 would just be cheating at that point lmao

Vt2 also restricts movement through subclasses. There's only jumping, dodging and walking.

Even classes and characters with greater movement and fast weapons had to stay walking before potions, movement speed buffs closer to dt sprinting and recycled movement tech came into play

And blocking and parries had much more value for the slow weapons

A lot of the time when you're meleeing your either swapping over from peril edging with a staff or in scriers gaze. This means there's a high chance you'll be at max stacks (20% power). Dat good

It tends to average 3-3.5 stacks on my scriers builds (according to mods that track buff uptime)
