Theoretically, this is how smite can work in high havoc. You could use a small burst of it on pack of elites that got too close, in too large of numbers while the front line players are starting to have trouble with them, like taking damage. The problem is stagger thresholds and hit mass are higher in damnation and auric. Havoc becomes these difficulties when you play the higher ranks, so smite doesn’t work or doesn’t work as well. There’s also the modifiers final toll and rampaging enemies. The first makes enemies immune to stagger and the second makes their stagger resistance very high. So smite won’t work at all

Taking smite over brain rupture is typically the lower damage choice for builds also. Brain rupture allows access to kinetic flayer. It activates an automatic high damage attack on a a random enemy for you, which activates every 15 seconds as long as you are attacking

All of those suggestions you posted are good actually. I recently took off rebreather because i realized I didn’t need it. I feel the same way about true grit because if I fuck up it’s 90% gunners.
You don’t like emperors fist? Idk I find it useful for opening up bulwarks and staggering more crushers at a time before someone gets hit. Strike would be the trade out for that if I did. How much does 15% rending accomplish? I’m not aware.
I don’t want to remove the last BTL node because I use it constantly for all kinds of special stagger, like FotF for gunners, and stopping heavy packs
