the reality is that a number of talents/blessings rely on dodges for procing. Smite prevents this and hinders teammates, its fine as a situational tool, but the reality is most players you're seeing use it only know how to smite. Its a rare occasion when someone actually has mechanic fundamentals but chooses to only use smite.

It really does hinder peoples ability to learn mechanics, and it shows

The builds in the pins should slowly start working for you, but still feel a bit worse than they are, because of lower stats, unfinished builds and sometimes lower enemy density or lack of elites

If you are playing malice you could play any of the staves and get a feel for them, while using Assail and a melee you like, slowly get used to them. Inferno and Voidblast won't feel strong because there are not a lot of enemies yet and Elektro won't feel strong because there are not a lot of elites to use it on, imo
