Toughness damage reduction is multiplicative and psyker doesn't have a lot, so it's not worth picking both talents, imo. I would take soulstealer instead
DD 25 stacks vs. 10 seconds is up to you, most people prefer the 10 second duration

Close range is not that close either and most engagements in the game are not far away, also situational but certainly more common than shooting enemies in the back

I run assail (darts), but tbh, I use it for softening/clearing gunner and rager patrols, or holding right mouse to aim and kill snipers, gunners, specials etc.

Spamming all of my shards into a horde is something I only do if the group is getting overwhelmed. It’s much better to use them strategically than just dump them all into basic hordes
