One of the thing about the dome people need to know is that you shouldn't use it on open field if it is not the last resort.
Use as much map covers as possible to protect the dome, otherwise they can bust in seconds.

I think positioning is part of it. I don’t play hyper aggressive and I’m not getting stuck in bad spots alone. It’s mostly stuff like I’ll be blazing away and a few rando pox walkers will somehow end up behind me and chunk my health with 3 hits.

Leveling psyker is mostly using assail. The class doesn't come together until Psyker has access to their full kit and high investment weapons.
For easiest leveling, mainly stick to assail. Experiment with emporer gifts etc. Be advised that staves, especially, voidblast, are and feel like poop until high investment because they have some of the widest stat scaling.

starting from the Force swords in general the deimos and obscurus have amazing potential, deimos being an all rounder and obscuruse more single target beast, the force great swords are both mks really good and up to taste, both weapon groups are really good and have superb finese mods for use on scriers builds
mk8 FGS is good for its swing patter vs hordes and its push attack is REALLY good damage vs elites, mk6 needs some finesse to deal with hordes but its heavy attack loop is great vs elites
