Psyker is good at killing crushers. Sometimes a crusher is up in your face and you need to deal with it.

Purg/ inferno isn't great at that. That's why other tools are used on them.

BUT if they are trying to do the uncanny SB interaction (which is a thing and can do meaningful damage to crushers and monsters), then their melee is going to be out and not their staff. SB DoT actively takes on buffs but does not snapshot them. So cara on purg is still a silly choice.

If that player can play well, then who cares.

Around level 19 for Psyker and I was watching some videos for build guides and I'm a bit saddened cause a lot of people describe a build I'm not super interested in (Flame Staff, Mind Rupture, and Bubble). Are there alternative builds that can scale well into the game or if you're not playing 'meta' builds is the game going to be impossible/ unfun?

I've been using Assail a lot along with Psykrier's Gaze and have been having a lot of fun with that

but it's way harder to play especially late game

Empowered Psionics+Smite is also strong, but people will not like you for running it

You can also run more or less this same build for every staff in the game, just removing the soulblaze exclusive perks

Or swap Bubble for Venting Shriek which is an objectively stronger, but less safe choice

Blocking will save your life from stray hits when you're in a tight spot
