IDK what level you are, but assail id your friend while leveling. It skips the poopoo gear that you have access to early on. Staves scale pretty hard with their stats and feel really bad without high investment.

You don't have to constantly buy new weapons either (it's generally recommended that you don't), but play what you and experiment tho.

Heavy push does wonders. And a back slide while charge the sweep creates enough room to actually sweep, which is a stagger and heavy melee combined.

Not to mention that really can space them hard with overhead and stab.

It does generally lack dodges, but it cleaves a ton, handles anything put in front of it in short order, has a ton of stamina, and that heavy push can knock a crusher on their ass.

It's really an overall fantastic weapon that I usually only bench for mobility on certain setups.

Can't replace an agile dueling sword for "omg, I need an adult" moments.

That's a pretty generic melee/gunker with assail dump. Yeah, it's a great build. I also mostly run it with reconlas rather than laspistol, but laspistol totally makes sense as your mobility with fgs. I've also run it with bistol for the same purpose.

Honestly, there's nothing stopping you from just meleeing monsters down and weaving in laspistol shots to maintain the 16 stacks

you'll probably do more damage that way than just shooting.

The heavies, especially the stab, start at like 1500+ damage before any boosts.

And having unyielding on the blade means the burn stacks will do more damage while in melee.
