EK lives and dies by crits, but it also takes more than 3 lightening zaps to take down big targets if you get unlucky with crits.

EK has some CC, is fast, has forgiving aim, and shines that most against specials and man sized targets. It enables SB talents, like shirek and PC, very easily.

But also the slower kills on bulwarks and reapers is a reason why I favor unyielding + flak on my EK.

Since @strong gulch requested it, here is some basic Voidstrike info and the current non-Havoc meta for it:

Voidstrike is a good all-rounder staff, capable of one-shotting anything that isn't a boss (on a crit). Voidstrike's best blessings are surge (Voidstrike is the only staff that has surge working on the charged attack) and warp nexus. I recommend +flak, +maniac, or +crit chance for the perks (I personally use +maniac and +crit chance, but +flak and +maniac would probably be better). The dump stat for Voidstrike is blast radius, which only affects the end explosion (which sucks and is irrelevant). These recommendations hold for both builds. Voidstrike's biggest issues are you need to be accurate, you need to know how much charge is required to kill something to be effective in higher difficulties, and its boss damage isn't great.

Important talents for every Voidstrike build are Warp Splitting (WS) and Disrupt Destiny (DD) (with Lingering Influence & Cruel Fortune). WS affects Voidstrike (and melee) and is important in higher difficulties where more enemies spawn. Voidstrike is the only staff that really uses DD, provided you can keep stacks up (which is why you need the subtalents, as Voidstrike is also slow).

Voidstrike prefers Assail as Assail handles spread-out enemies well while Voidstrike does not.

As Voidstrike is an all-rounder, melee is preference. I use knife (mk3) when I want to win.

The first build is Shriekstrike, the meta build, and relies on Shriek to handle Voidstrike's peril management and apply soulblaze to everything (only shriek above 85% peril). It focuses less on Voidstrike. Quick Shards is a spare point you can move around for something else you prefer.

The second build is Ballspam. Its focus is entirely on Voidstrike, and it is difficult to play by comparison but many seem to enjoy it. It is off-meta. There are no spare points in this build, every point needs to be placed precisely or you will be missing something big.

I would use assail for elites/specialists. You could also try BB if you have trouble getting the shards to kill with the right ones.
