Due to the existence of Assail, Trauma, Voidstrike, Purgatus, and Creeping Flames, we can use the Combat Knives without suffering the major weakness they bring.
Although, the new Combat Knife does have pretty respectable horde management in exchange for lower single target peaks on it's heavies.
But the push attack is giga cracked on it, with both a target cap of 5 and high single target damage.

You might reach for one shot threshold on mutant in which case you may want to swap Blazing Spirit to Uncanny Strike and Carapace to Maniac.
Check The Psyker Atheneum entry for Deimos and compare the damage values there go the inspect table for the second heavy.

so, i have come to the conclusion that the only useful staffs are either the purge or Surge staff, the Trauma staff is clunky asf and the Void charges way too slow even with blessing buff for charge.

mk2/5 are still good, better at crowds than the mk4. even if they dont perform quite as well overall, they still have unique strengths over the mk4 and should be considered if you want a rapier but want more crowd clear tham single target
also just use what you enjoy first and foremost. the balance in this game is pretty good, with a few exceptions
