with deflector, kinetic deflector and a total of 46% block efficiency and 22% stam regen it just feels enough to me. generally when i take dmg its when i clear for someone else and have to position myself in suboptimal spots

I think "Attack Stamina Damage" in that formula is just the block_cost_multiplier of the attack. For daemonhost melee it's 3.5. It is then modified by your own multipliers and then fed into that formula

Having them in your arsenal is fine, even if I personally dislike Gun Psyker builds. The problem is with shop itemization and being a Psyker just makes that problem more apparent.
Sure, but it was more of a very specific example. Depends what other stuff you have on your curios. If you have so much invested you could also have more health/toughness perks and replace the roll on your weapon too. More of just an interesting topic to discuss than hard claiming anything.
I usually just have all health ones lately or 2 health and 1 wound. I could see never being tempted to have a wound though too if they implemented that pay for mission buffs system with one of them being an extra wound.

See my assessment is quite different. The itemization system of rolls and blessings makes such a tiny difference that it's not worth min maxing in my mind. The difference between a 345 item and a 380 if the stat distribution is good on both is highly marginal. In some cases it's not even big enough to feel any real difference

Yeah it's all over the place really. That is true sometimes for the blessings, and then randomly some of them are incredibly powerful and on a completely different tier from "normal" ones.
A great example is a have a 312 base stat autogun, it happened to highroll and got +25% to maniacs and +15 sustained fire blessing. For something lacking 65+ stat points, it sure doesn't feel like it. It just annihilates mutants and flamers even better than some of my 360+ rating weapons
Yeah so this is a large part of why I disagree with you and why I feel the way I do about it. Especially right now when we lack the ability to modify the blessings on weapons.
Also frankly if modifying a weapon's blessing locks the second one in permanently, I'm doubling down and probably moving on as soon as the next big horde shooter comes out.
Trying to get a good combination of perks and blessings on your weapons for the builds that you want is a shitshow.
This can be attributed to some weapons having modifiers which dont matter if they are 0 or 80 as they either dont affect damage or are for mobility.
I agree it's very hard. If you are someone who likes to optimize stats and builds this Borderlands style rolls and gambling system certainly would feel bad.
For purga staff also damage allows it to be low as 70% while still having 16 on damage number

The thing that feels bad to me is I'm fairly confident we are just mostly wasting time on all gear that will always be non relevant because the highest rated stuff isn't even in. At least in v2 if you roll an orange there it can basically be as good as a red. But I have a feeling they will just raise the 380 cap without any way to upgrade ratings on what we have.
Ok so between these two swords, even with the lower level of deflector, the stamina one was actually better for blocking

Also my curios have 10%+10%+12% block efficiency if that matters to anyone
So if you're not running stamina curios and you want 20% block eff on your sword, go +1 stamina instead

It's not even purely about optimization in terms of numbers. As mentioned, getting good perks and blessings on your weapons can make a huge difference in your build, so relying on RNG makes putting different builds together frustratingly difficult.

Just ask any of the people who have posted here who still havent managed to get the deflector perk on a Force Sword, or as an even better example, the Surge blessing on a Force Staff
It can certainly be improved longevity wise, saying that as someone with nothing left to do there. But I think the direction they are going we aren't even doing anything meaningful at all right now other than hoarding mats.

because if it's the latter, then it scales better the more you have it. If it's the former, then it's basically linear

I imagine stamina is less effective for this per point the more you stack. I just went from 3 stam to 4, so the difference is probably bigger than say, going from 6 stam to 7
You'd probably want block eff if you already had a ton of stamina curios, but again i'm not sure because i have no idea how block eff works in the first place

I agree, it's a real problem right now at least that deflector is pure rng to acquire. I think that when they finish the crafting system that the 'earn blessing' function will help that. But I can't know that for sure. I highly doubt you'll get to pick both blessings tho. I also seriously doubt the combine blessings function will work like some think it will either.

Yeah they just stack additively but it's honestly hard to test because you can't test defenses in the meat grinder.
I hope it becomes a feature so i can test out different blocking setups
and toughness breakpoints for tanking damage if any useful ones exist
Deflector, Surge, Bloodthirster, Decimator, Infernus, Power Cycler, Slaughterer, Transfer Peril... there are so many blessings that actually make a pretty big difference hidden among a sea of virtually useless ones.
Sadly, I share your doubts and am not very optimistic about my future prospects with this game.

This, at least, will be mostly solved once you can queue up for solo games finally.
It's really good for pairing with the Kinetic Deflection Feat. It makes rescuing downed teammates amid a sea of ranged enemies fairly effortless, especially if you stack Stamina and/or Block Efficiency perks.
i can see a use on reviving teammates, but other people in here make it seem like a crutch to rely on

Technically speaking it's actually not required at all. You can avoid ranged damage by simply taking cover, the rest of what makes the build work relies on what kinetic deflection does (block with peril instead of stam) and technically works with any weapon.
It's not essential, even on a Kinetic Deflectoin build, but it does ad a lot of utility by adding the ability to block ranged attacks, which is rather uncommon.
It definitely becomes a crutch if you depend on gap closing with it

i never really have a problem on gap closing on ranged enemies, but mostly because i use guns instead of staff, so i could see the argument of deflector being a quality of life thing for a staff psyker
The ability to just walk up to a ranged enemy while blocking is a hard habit to break. I honestly am glad I switched off to my chainsword for a while from my force sword cus I was definitely getting into some bad reflexes just hitting block whenever I needed to close with a ranged enemy playing to much deflector sword

It's not. BB is very effective against bombers, gunners, snipers, and human sized enemies besides flamers in general. And a well-timed pre-charged BB can be very effective even if it doesnt one shot your target.

i use it for distant elites and thats about it though it might not even oneshot
Although I will say that Kinetic Barrage makes a really big difference in terms of usability. BB without it still feels rather painful a lot of the time.
Brain burst is a blessing for gun psykers for hitting breakpoints and just there to kill elites and specials while we can keep a gun for generaly anti-shooters, though i use the Revolver anyway because reliability

I am similar. I use my gun as anti cc specialists. I use it take out bombers, mutants, flamers, and ragers since on higher difficulties brain burst doesn't usually have the time to charge to deal with them.

The extra health is really harsh on brain burst breakpoints. Damnations I find the gun is absolutely key to dealing with specialists
brain burst just really needs to scale better with the warp charges
Honestly that lines up with how I see the playstyle being used generally, but it would be nice if they at least offered enough support for the build to be competitive and effective even on the highest difficulties.

Psyker passives are really what stack with guns the most

Rapid fire weapons will trigger the passive quell quite often, and the extra elite damage plus warp siphon damage plus perks really stacks up if you use the right weapon to get full advantage of base damage values. Percent buffs are much stronger on high base damage weapons. That's why Mk1 Agrippa and MG12 Kantrel are quickly becoming my go tos over other guns
Most of my 380's have been Tactical Axes, Autoguns, or Lasrifles.
pretty sure the passive quell applies to staffs anyways, thats their specialization, killing/CC ing the horde

I've been testing both quietitude and warp essence lately. I think warp essence is slightly better in lower difficulties while quietitude is better in higher difficulties because your BBs don't kill as often in damnation
psyker doesn't particularly need it though unless you are about to be hit by a disabler

I've been messing around with damnation builds for gun psyker and honestly some of the perks that have been written off as trash really come into their own at damnation level

Psykinetic Wrath for example, (the feat not the ultimate) really helps hit breakpoints in damnation for example. The cool down reduction of Aura is also super helpful if you need to bust a group of specials cus you can use your ULT as a CC/push, then mow down the specials with your gun and have the ULT almost back up immediately.
It's nothing game breaking, but you really feel brain burst become a much more niche ability and your melee and ranged weapons become much more important

i rerolled my 20% block eff to 1 stam and tested on mauler swipe
3 stam + 53% block eff = 29% peril
4 stam + 33% block eff = 27% peril
so yea 1 stam is better than 20% block eff at least at from 30 - 50% dont know how it scales

Basically for gun psyker feats targeting damnation/heresy play, quietitude I think becomes the only viable lvl 5 choice at damnation the others won't consistently Regen when you need it. LVL 10 feat I think Wrath is better than the warp resist for a gun/fs build for the breakpoints it hits. At LVL 15 Aura vs Communion is hard, haven't settled that yet. LVL 20 you take deflection, LVL 25 KF is kinda the best of a bad bunch and LVL 30 you need KB so you can chain burst bulwarks and crushers.
Like a week ago someone reported that there is a bug with block efficiency bonuses when using the perils on block which can translate to increased perils rather than reduced.
I don't think it does actually. A demonhost does 16% peril at most to me with 0% block efficiency and no stamina boosts on a dueling sword
but even with a bunch of block eff stacked together, demonhosts seem to do 20%+ against a force sword

I tried testing this and couldn't replicate the issue. Block efficiency seems to work fine. Maybe the guy testing it didn't know stamina effected peril block and took off a stamina curio during the test

I really notice it on the Agrippa and kantrel. I don't always focus on maintaining stacks cus that's hard but when you get into a sustained combat situation you really notice the difference. In particular the kantrel gets pushed over several key breakpoints both on body and weak spots and you can go full beast mode with it.

The only maybe decent argument I've seen for taking toughness over health on curios is that toughness can provide a bit of a buffer against a Force Staff charge attack being interrupted vs. ranged.
Even then that seems like it would be trivial considering that our base toughness pool is 100.

The problem is a lot of dangerous stuff has a ridiculous multiplier to toughness and the extra amount ends up mitigating a lot less than the health you gained by having a health curio instead

bleedthrough only happens below 100% now. Used to always do 10% chip damage but not anymore

Seriously guys, give the Antax Mk. 5 Combat Axe a try. Go for Limbsplitter or Decimator and Brutal Momentum on blessings. It's incredibly painless and efficient horde clear.

Going from 2->3 stam should be equivelant to 33% block eff, 3->4 should be 25%, 4->5 should be 20%

sniper resist should work fine as far as I know but grim resist only applies to the small ticking amount and not the large initial corruption so it's not so great

imo depends on what your melee is
if you go non-force melee, you can mostly passive quell so you can give up quell speed
if you go force sword, you rely on staff quelling a lot

Better transfer peril. Some people say that Warp Flurry is bugged right now, but when I hold down right click and spam Voidstrike I notice an appreciable difference in charge up speed

It works with min charge spamming leading into a longer one. The main problem is the stacks don't last very long so it's hard/impossible to stack it with anything but the min void spam

Been doing a sort of high peril flex build. The idea is that I always have 80-90+% peril for just dps boosts before warp charges. Feels nice so far at least.

Hey, is there much of a concensus on the favoured dueling sword Mks? I have a hard time picking. Mk II is rapid on lights but has the uppercut swipes which are hard to headshot with, mk IV locks into the overhead lights which are easy to headshot with but a bit slower, and mkV is only uppercut lights and then the strikedown, and has more of an emphasis on the slow overhead heavies (but really good mobility, also).
I've been going mkV lately but I really dislike how it feels kinda weak on horde clear compared to the others. Although running voidstrike does make up for that, it feels like I'd have been better off using an axe for melee
Necroing back a bit here. But this actually makes a lot of sense when you see the throwing knives.
There's several references to psykers using force-tuned daggers or knives to increase warp connection and effectively the knife throw would be a way to "mark a target" for follow-up attacks with warp energy to be amplified.
The other abilities are pretty straightforward based off their names and translating from other 40k games.
Basically get ready for surge staff gameplay from chain lighting and the throwing knives to amplify the effect. The rest will give defenses or damage reduction likely for coherency.

I think I'm leaning towards mk2 atm since it can make up for the uppercuts by just being the fastest lights and has that really nice sweeping H2 which for some reason does way more damage than the strikedown H1

Basically; mk II has excellent horde clear and a nice sweeping H2 that doesn't emphasise headshots as much
Mk IV is a bit slower but much easier to headshot with, although imo the heavies are worse than any of the mks

Mk V has good strikedown combos but worst horde clear, since the lights are uppercuts which are hard to headshot with
And they get like a 2.3x multiplier on headshot so you really need those lol
Oh and also the MkV has the best dodges, around the same as the knife

warp nexus is alright on surge, you really don't need the uninterruptable channeling on surge

depends on how much charging you normally do
what you will notice is, with proper aim and positioning, no longer needing to quell on the hordes
I almost always use charged attacks with void
I usually spam but sometimes charge fully
and being able to stop the horde nonstop without quelling is a big deal
