there's a frankly disgusting almost intimidating amount of content

the nation the game starts in, is give or take about the size of the entire skyrim worldmap

larger, easily larger, but close enough

and that's one of six nation states that big

it's heresay for sure but I heard that day of release someone just fucked off down the road on their horse to get to the big letters Crimson Desert on the far sid e of the world map

and with seeing it all for the first time but still on a personal speedrun timer it took them four hours and change to get there

#

all the major game mechanics that other games have done well in the past, like say horses and RDR2

#

this game is a love letter to what made those systems great and leaving all the other fluff aside

#

horses are intuitive for anyone who's played RDR, no explanation needed

#

combat is excellent and full of momentary pauses for things like charging up your ability, or having a split second dodge opportunity before you're hit

#

and there are so many any-given-moment abilities you can use, half of them require you to have a combo key modifier plus your standard mouse or attack buttons

#

like a LMB and RMB do their thing, but there's also ctrl or alt or shift lmb and rmb

#

cuz you have the agency to be able to do that many things anytgime

#

abilities combo into each other like swings combo automatically in darktide

#

and unlocks further that, like with an unlock you can tackle-grab somebody after a stab attack to take them hostage and cause all the other fighters to back off

#

and the gear and items, my god

#

so my inventory can hold 75 slots, my personal storage back in my tent can hold a further 240

#

and both of them are to the brim

Skyrim does it pretty well in that there's so many little places and goblin caves just walking to another town can be a 3hr trip when it'd take 5mins to run straight there

the game map is also very up-down too, similar to skyrim but with the added benefit of you having a full compliment of organic assassin's creed climing and parkouring abilities baked in from the start

so mountains are not forced go-arounds, you can climb every inch of the bitch if you have the stamina to

and even beyond that there's a full sense of moutain peaks to moutain streams to rocky waterfalls to lowland swamps

the same biome will change inside of itself according to elevation and water flow as well

so it can take longer to get a to b just by the virtue you're also having to factor your up/down travel time instead of just as the crow flies
