Pick a mission that has a lot of wide space and either find a group of enemies statically/patrolling. Aim your cursor at the appropriate length and if you can, visualize at least three to four grunt units stacked on top of each other. Keep your cursor at the top of said visual on high ground for example and toss. Usually an easy penance.

I haven't tried the salvo builds so I can't speak for it.
Some of my favorite setups broadly are
-
Flak/Maniac + Dumdum/Deathspitter. Baseline easy standard setup, wide case use.
-
Flak/unyielding + infernus/dumdum. Good sustained single target damage with elites and monstrosities in mind.
-
Flak/unarmoured + dumdum/infernus. Go-to horde clear with a heavier emphasis on trash sweeping. Usually I take marksman's focus but that's only because I'm treating it as a keystone generator and nothing more really. More of a personal fun time than something I'd say is super solid outside of that niche.
