penetration is usually going to be the 2nd most important or 3rd most important stat on other weapons

its just on knife it doesnt really matter

because of uncanny strikes

and how fast and easily knife stacks it

both affect your armor penetration modifiers and there's a limit to how much you can actually get before you get severely diminished returns

and uncanny goes well past that point b/c of how busted it is

mercy killer is very consistent and higher ceiling than riposte but requires you to spend talent points on the tree grabbing serrated blade
flesh tearer opens up a lot of BPs similar to precog but is a bit more rng based since you need to crit
Executor is similarly high damage ceiling like precog/flesh tearer but requires you to not miss heads or you lose stacks

I wouldn't say it'd get overwhelmed and have no future, but it'll be an uphill battle in its current state. The core idea of plasma + surv + voc + wep spec is good, but the points should be shifted and blessings/perks changed (someone else will have cover this).
Starter Tree: You're spending a lot of points in the early tree when most of the strong talents are near the bottom. I'd just pick up Out for Blood or Confirmed Kill and keep moving down. Charismatic doesn't do much, and Tactical Reload is not necessary on plasma since you rarely reload.
Nades and Aura: Kraks are niche for boss dmg and bulwarks for a plasma build. I prefer Frags since they're more flexible but it's up to you.
Serrated Blade is only good for specific knife builds, and Tinkerer is a luxury that only improves boss damage. Dump these two.
Survivalist is good for plasma. Agile Engagement is really good in this build, but is expensive when going Survivalist. You could go Close and Kill to save points (it's also just a good aura) but you may run into ammo troubles.
Bottom: Most importantly, you want to go down the middle to grab Iron Will since that gives stupid amounts of survival. You'll also want to go left side to pick up Superiority Complex for breakpoints, which also picks up the ammo to help with plasma's ammo econ.
Bottom Right: Faster reload subnode in WS isn't that good for the cost. Brittleness on crit doesn't do much. Reciprocity and Close Quarters Kill Zone are comparable, but for shovel I prefer CQKZ. Always Prepared is good in extending the already large mag.

I'd do something like this. I sacrificed ogryn damage and always prepared for agile engagement and survivalist. You could instead go krak/smoke into close and kill. Anyways I should stop yapping at these unholy hours of night. overall, you got a solid plan. kill mfs and have fun

The tl;dr is that they're all good now so you can just sorta pick which ever one you like most and have fun

The bleed was definitely not worth it. I didn't notice that until you said something though it struck me before as a small percentage.
The character is made with the intention of being able to hold the front lines with heavy shovel swings, and when a special or elite shows to refill others ammo by a large radius Survivalist. On my Ogryn I typically run guns that don't eat up ammo, and I sort of do that on my vet with only using my plasma gun sparingly, but I'm fighting for the elite and specialist kills to refill ammo.
Ogryn elites and monstrosities are known to be a key to wiping many of my groups. I'm going to try keeping the high damage krak grenades.
For The Emperor being only triggered by my VOC is pretty weak. Given how I horde clear, and generate toughness like crazy due to Out for Blood during horde clear and an enhanced coherency radius Born Leader is probably preferred for my build.
I don't know why the crit numbers were so low in the psykanium. Changing away from crit is a good idea.
I find the plasma gun unbearable without things to speed up the reload. I think I'll take your advice, and drop it because I think in hi int missions Demolition Team may be necessary to handle an ogryn pack of elites, then a monstrosity soon after. Free wins at crucial points are a big deal.

I think I just drop the left hand 25% ammo >.< and the elite damage until it's apparent that they're needed. I may have to go back to the drawing board. I'm at 27. Once I reach 30 and get Iron Will I'm confident that it will be a useable build.

Recons have substantially better ammo economy compared to the Autoguns when paired with a crit + Shock Trooper set up. Even just Headhunter + Shock Trooper is enough though for the slower firing variants (Recon Mk II and Recon Mk VIIa) you can kinda enjoy some value out of Deadshot too if you like juggling stamina through Focus Target + Target Down. They also benefit immensely from rending in the tree. Rending Strikes and Chink in their Armour are both very strong options for the Recon Mk II and Recon Mk VIIa. The Recon Mk VId can go Rending Strikes + Onslaught for fantastic Crusher killing potential

Infantry Autoguns edge them out on DPS but the ammo efficiency is noticeably better on the Recons

I kinda like that the devs are setting up all the Lasguns as the more ammo efficient but lower DPS weapons compared to Autoguns tbh
