I just love lighting reflexes. You can reliable CC two ragers at a time and then stunlock them with melees.
This ws the impression I got: the weapon has a crazy good gimmick, and that gimmick is blocking to ruin a whole wave's day. 😛
And the you get +25% melee power and +25% damage as the reward for pulling it off.

Recons right? If so you will benefit more from Flak (especially when you need to bodyshot Maulers) and Maniac (Mutie DPS/TTK). Flak is the important one though. Maniac ADM is ok-ish now. With a tiny bit of rending you could probably skip Maniac for Elite or Crit Chance instead
So 10% rending helps for recon?or jusy too small number?
Even just Rending Strikes alone is very worth having on the Recons imo
But I like stacking Chink in their Armour (10% Rending at 10 Stack Marksman's Focus) on the Mk II and Mk VIIa to double down on even more rending with them. I use Onslaught with the Recon Mk VId though. Brittleness is just Rending but instead of buffing your ADM alone, Brittleness reduces the armour of the enemy you hit
It's only a 2.5% brittlness per stack but it stacks 16 times iirc for a total of 40% Brittleness on a target when fully stacked
For a gun that fires as fast as the Recon Mk VId this can really soften up hardy targets like Crushers

The important part to remember is that since this is Brittleness and not Rending you have made the target weaker for everyone, not just yourself
But the Recon Mk VIIa and even the Recon Mk II have a fire rate too slow to really benefit much from Onslaught's stacking brittleness
Remember that it's only 2.5% per stack and only applies 1 stack per shot
Usually the Recon Mk II and Recon Mk VIIa will kill a target long before Onslaught brittleness ever stacks to a meaningful number

Mk II Laspistol, Mk IV Infantry Lasgun, Mg1a Infantry Lasgun, any of the Helbores (Mk II best imo with the right perks/blessings/talents), any of the Recons (Recon Mk II and Recon Mk VIIa are the better general use Recons)
One word of caution: Recon Mk VId has twice the magazine size and a much faster fire rate than the other two variants. It chews through ammo really quickly
weakspot and crit damage perks on weapon are never worth it

in reality it translates to more like less than 5% dmg icnrease
Also for the Recon Mk II and Recon Mk VIIa you want Dum Dum + Headhunter. Infernus is an ok sidegrade if you get that instead. Weaker at closer ranges but begins to outperform Dum Dum at longer ranges
you really don't need the reload speed perk if you already got Both Barrels, not to mention certain Veteran reload speed traits that I forgot the name of
or you can run weapon specialist and get the free reload

On the Helbore Mk II you need Unarmoured and Maniac as perks to hit the 1HKO breakpoints on Dreg Gunners and both Flamers but if you grab Exe Stance and pair it with Focus Target + Redirect Fire you can ignore both those perks because you now consistently hit the 1HKO on Dreg Gunners and both Flamers at any distance, and can instead get Carapace as a weapon perk that combos well with Exe Stance and Focus Target to bring your breakpoint on Crushers down to 2HKO. Imagine killing a Crusher in 2 shots now imagine this with Shock Trooper and Surgical making those shots FREE. You can literally kill a Crusher for free and do it faster than most weapons could ever hope to do. And even better: with Survivalist Aura you get ammo refunded. Helbore Mk II can be built to be THE most ammo positive gun in the entire Vet arsenal and nothing else even comes close to the infinite ammo it has. Maybe Kantrael Mk IV Infantry Lasgun can sorta compare I guess? But it isn't infinite ammo like the Helbore, it just has a VERY deep ammo pool

I think the Dreg Rager buff makes them more fun to fight now. They're more of a threat than before and weapons that can stagger break their attack animation are now a lot more valuable for fighting them. Helbore Bayonet time

reducing the amount of options to fight an enemy is reducing the number of approaches, thus making them more 1 dimensional
ragers when i hit em with that dollar store combat knife
any gun works, just whatever you can shoot straight with is my reccomendation

You can still engage them in melee but the timing on dodges is tighter and if you're fighting 3-4+ Ragers in melee you should rightfully not be doing ok in the heart of a blender just trying to melee duel them imo
if that's the design intention why're maps still spawning streets of ragers
cause they're supposed to be scary up close and the game is supposed to be somewhat challenging

Because as a Veteran why should we be able to comfortably fight 8 Ragers in melee without using grenades, a melee weapon that can counter them effectively or engage them at range where we are strongest? You use VoC, just pop that to stagger them off and slam Plasma shots into them

Yeah so you can continue to do that now but it is harder and when a Rager horde of 8+ appears you should definitely not try to melee them unless you are very, very good and very confident in timing
then use a weapon with half-decent dodge and learn your combos well
because it's still doable

the problem is between rending and weapons getting very generous flak modifiers, scab and carapace enemies have become a joke
flak rager's in a weird spot because they somewhat serve as rager mauler hybrid
10 mass blocks cleave on a lot of weapons
you end up in situations where a gun kills scabs, the armored units, faster than the dumb ass unarmored dregs

The entire armor system is a mess and rending only made things so much worse. I'm not saying flak should be bullet sponges but in terms of gameplay they should never die easier than the unarmored versions nor should they behave like untrained fucking nurgle cultists as they are ex guardsman, war veterans and all that.
