To summarize: class balance, inconsistencies in core design philosophy, poorly conceived player achievement challenges that work against the cooperative nature of the game, pervasive stability and hardware issues, and bugs that directly impede gameplay progression.
All of this is compounded by a seemingly apparent lack of learning from past mistakes as this mirrors Vermintide 2's launch heavily. Only that was nearly 5 years ago (more than that if you count when VT2 started develoment). They've expanded their staffing but haven't seemed to match that in other areas. There are many basic features that are core to the game's progression that new players and players not experienced with Fatshark will be unhappy to need to wait for or weren't expecting to wait for since this isn't a "beta" anymore. Is it unplayable? No. Is it still fun? Yes. Should it have been done better? Yes and Fatshark should've been capable of it this time.
But it all comes down to what your standards and expectations are.
Achievements are hardly core gameplay. Stability is a mixed bag, a lot of people have had zero issues with stability
"core design philosophy" is not something that's fixable short of binning the game entirely adn restarting the development cycle

and thus degrade the experience
If you feel the game is ready to launch as it is and that there weren't things that should've been within FS's ability to fix long before they released the beta, then I have nothing else to say.

Like 98% of the game rules, the combat feels good but has some flaws that need to be ironed out. UI could use some touching up. Some of the penances feel borked. But realistically the game as a whole rules and will get patches to fix 90% of the issues anyway (and surely create some new issues along the way, because game development)

If they ask in voice chat and it is difficulty 3 or less I might say sure otherwise if I say no and they ignore me I just rush the next zone and spawn as many hordes of enemies as I can then run back to the psycher and let it overwhelm them then kill the boss myself. Worst thing that happens is they rage quit. I mean achievement hunting discords exist join one 🙂

In more words: Counter productive to how class feats incentivize play.
if you didn't take melee chip damage through toughness the game would be even easier than it already is
IMO Zealot at the least - probably Ogryn too - need a way to avoid chip damage. My personal solution is that Zealot should ignore any chip damage while they have toughness based on a threshold of either health or wounds
It is a design philosophy that treats toughness as equivalent to VT's temp hp and ignores the presence of corruption damage.
I think toughness works kind of well on the vet

Yeah I've seen a lot of people be like "well you're not supposed to go low as Zealot you idiot, it's supposed to just give you something for getting chipped"
But also, it feels super bad that you have a bunch of feats and traits that just do nothing at all if you play well and stay above 80%

Can someone explain how the camo talent works for Sharpshooter? Do enemies stop seeing you if you stand still, or does it only work for new enemies who haven't spotted you yet?
The consensus has reached towards both those points though.
The reason is that the class is designed to be at low health
Zealot needs some reevaluating.
The Zealot in VT had the same thing, but temp HP functioned as a buffer
So they could run around at 1hp just fine
Whereas if the zealot goes to 1hp through one of its core class features, its a dead man walking unless they take the specific talent that lets them regen some health via damage
It's just incongruous design
you can also just block and dodge, melee damage is avoidable
the fact that you get hit in the back randomly by some ethereal void spawned poxwalker is the game's messed up spawning coming into play and will either be fixed or bitched about until the end of time

Well, two classes start very quickly dying on the power scale past malice, running my psyker on heresy and damnation is much more of a gamble than running my vet, despite the arguably greater cc and special killing potential. Least that’s how it’s felt to me, haven’t touched zealot yet
you'll see more of various classes when one stops being flat out better than the rest
Tbh wouldn’t mind if they were all at vets level rather than vet likely getting toned down
nah vet is too good and handles everything too well
it pulls away hard from the teamwork aspect of the game and goes back to the one-guy-solos-everything issue VT had

Idk about that, it’s I feel like it’s definitely harder to solo shit in but that’s mostly due to the busted ass director we have rn. The coherency bonuses and threat of random death for pulling away feels way more oppressive here than it felt to me in v2, but I could be goonin
it's def more punishing in a lot of ways; temp health not existing so you can't just trade hits changes stuff up a lot
every weapon tends to fall into a good role too barring a few overtuned ones
Definitely, though I feel that a much easier fix to some of the issues would be to roll back stuff like chip damage as I wager fixing the director is gonna take some elbow grease, and at least that’ll keep me from getting poked in the back by a single silent pox walker/random pod of elites (50/50) than simply appeared after clearing an area

i've had issues with getting backpoked but usually that's down to not actually clearing out guys who get knocked over or poxwalkers filtering in from adjacent rooms

I flipped between malice and heresy, tried damnation once, lasted about 6 minutes Bc we were all dicking around and got unlucky simultaneously 😂 though I mostly hang out on malice for grinding out mats n dockets

Honestly, if you're saying that toughness is fine as is for Zealot, I'm guessing you haven't played it at high level
They have taken the mechanics of the VT Zealot and pasted it into DT and the difference between toughness and temp hp are just too big to have it work

i didnt really focus any one class in the preorder beta
got all bois to lvl 15/20
before it went down i was enjoying the thunder hammer (although the activated attack felt a bit too slow for how anemic the damage looked)
and i was playing on at least malice+
The director spawned a bulwark in front of me as I was mid melee swing
I think the thunderhammer is more like the 2h hammer in VT, where its primary feature is stun/stagger rather than raw damage unless you LMB

One time I dodged one and it IMMEDIATELY 180d and jumped onto a door about 3m away, bounced off it, 180d back towards me and pounced me

Mutants I figured out how to deal with. Dogs are wacky if you don’t heavy attack them when they pounce

If you put your back to a wall mutants auto throw you as a mechanic so they don’t slam you out of terrain
Again though, its probably lag
dodging in the open works, but not near terrain; which they seem to jump off
and yeah some of it's likely lag
any sort of lack of ground does that @silver ridge
they're coded to throw you into a "safe" spot too and don't just sprint off ledges with you
On Heresy, mutants are probably my most hated enemy
you can stagger and counter charge them as ogryn so they aren't the worst vs a well rounded team
ogryn slap staggers a lot of elites you wouldn't expect it to
They are just too tanky to reliably take down and very few things seem to reliably stun them.
I’m able to dodge mutants pretty consistently to my left and just need 2 heavy attacks from my power sword to die
Dogs I have to time my heavy when they pounce to just straight up kill them
If I don’t, the dogs freak out and backflip everywhere
power sword is one of the overtuned weapons rn so they're not the best checks for tankyness or not
Yeah if they do a balance pass on release, I'm expecting a hefty nerf to powersword
Either that or a big buff to almost every other melee weapon
that would make melee weapons comically good and kinda obsolete the CC power of ogryn

Yeah, considering its special has no on-hit animation-lock like most other melee specials AND it cleaves its kinda busted
Like chainsword/evi and force sword wont take down a mauler in one special and when they do spec, they're locked in place which both makes them super vulnerable and it can be interrupted
Vs powersword where you just charge and swing a few times
If it doesnt go down, do it again
And you've killed the mauler and anything near it
I feel like it's a good crown control sword and shouldn't be more, if you nerf it charged dmg it would be just strong enough for waves and just a sword without special against mauler or else
I think the biggest issue with the power sword is that it's the perfect horde clear melee that is also great at single target. imo the damage makes sense for a power sword. The heavy attack shouldn't be horizontal swings but vertical, which makes it still good but less good at cleaving through entire hordes. Alternatively or additionally, have a slower activation/have it use a resource like heat.

Yeah the fantasy of a powersword makes it make more sense for single target killing since its designed to pen

mmhm. I also think the same thing about the bolter. currently it's too easy to wipe out a horde on full auto cuz it pens through so many poxwalkers. Which bothers me lore wise and balance wise. The mass reactive rounds should be detonating inside the first walker.

Plasma buff power sword nerf are probably the first changes in weapom balance i expect to see
without the vet ammo buff bolter ammo count seems fair
with that extra 40% it's just a bit much

I would like to see a plasma buff on first target dmg and a bolter nerf on penetration and AOE
mmhm. plasma is harder to use, more ammo scarce, hurts you, doesn't do appreciably more dps, doesn't meaningfully pen more targets, and doesn't deal with hordes as well as the bolter
yeah logically a bolter's AOE should be small because it's mostly flesh being thrown around after embedding

Has anyone actually done any conclusive test on whether the "low hp" bonus for zealot only applies to regular melee? I assume it does, but I did not play Zealot.
The explosive shells from a bolter are supposed to work basically like WW2 explosive bullets, right?

Well, hitting things with pointy things or blunt things on a stick. I assume it's a melee bonus, but then, the description ingame does not say so. Could be it also buffs his lasgun.

special attacks and weapon-melee attacks seem to count as heavies
it's most obvious on ogryns
ogryn has talent that checks for heavies and adds +1 bleed if it is one

You may be slightly underestimating how hot plasma is
Well, it's a fantasy game where common sense is extinct, but, physically, it is correct that, until the plasma field travels at ridiculous speed, its armour penetration would have no bearing on penetrating multiple targets.
It could be made to cause a wide arc of damage by bursting out behind the target, sort of a weak explosion that'd work somewhat like a beam staff charged attack from Vermintide, but from what you hit instead of yourself.
As for the Ogryn, it has 2 burst shotguns, a break-action shotgun, a machine gun, grenade launcher, and better (melee) grenade launcher.
An auto-cannon sounds like a slightly slower, heavy MG. ... a heavy Bolter?
Well, that really ends up theorycrafting. I did only very rarely seen a plasma gun, though, so it doesn't seem to be particularly popular.
Im sure there are different types of plasma but, the plasma that gets used in some fusion reactors is 150,000,000c

I imagine something that hot being exposed to air would probably cause other problems realistically, but if we just say that the air doesn't immediately burst into flame and go thermonuclear through classic WH40K "don't question it, it's cool magic" then yeah, I think it would vaporise things

I'm unsure how it is supposed to function in the fantasy. Is it a goopy ball that is similar to SUPER acid. Or is it just liquid super fire that vaporises you before it even touches you

I mean if there's one thing we can agree on is that plasma should be very stronk, with other drawbacks to balance it

i think that tanky frontline targets are too weak and easily killable without needing a plasma so if they want the plasma to be good, they need to buff bulwarks and crushers

If you don't have a psyker, bulwarks can be a major pain in the ass

yet it is more or less harmless in those quantities, if it was outside of a vacuum it would just dissipate almost instantly I guess
there's different types of plasma
I figure either it dissipates or it causes a thermonuclear explosion
technically it's just a state of matter
Though i think it woudl be cool if it set everythign on the path of the projectile on fire
i am not a fan of laser/plasma weapons, I like my good old kinetic force, you can get this recoilless too
and also did some sort of glowy eaten alive explody effect when it hits something
The only things we know about plasma guns is they involve plasma some how, glowy, gets hot, and good armor penetration
The rest of how it's portrayed is open to interpretation

All i know is the current incarnation of the plasma gun is pretty lackluster

Slow firing semi auto with fireball style "dropping" projectiles, with a charged shot that will be even shorter range with more damage and a small explosion

Id say plasmagun is good for what it does
Pretty much pinpoint accurate even at long range (just have to be able to aim it well since you cant ADS)
Melts even heavily armored enemies
Pairs well with the anti- Ogryn/Monstrosity lvl 30 feat for Veteran which lets you 1-3 uncharged shot the non-boss ogryn enemies (yes even the armored ones) and deals like 30-40% of the boss ogryns and monstrosities with each fully charged shot to a weakspot
tips for dealing with daemonhosts? They seem very formidable.

The best option is having an Ogryn with a shield trigger the fight, then run into a corner and plonk down their shield while everyone else nukes it

It's a live service game, they probably went through all that trouble to do things like seasons
Many games try to adopt the Season Pass mechanic because it has proven highly profitable for other games. It's profitable because when it's done right, it provides a satisfying and progressive system for obtaining rewards that can be enjoyed by both paying and free customers.
Of course, like any payment system, balancing it properly makes all the difference. And there are plenty of examples out there of poorly implemented Season Pass systems. But when done right, it works pretty well.
It gives an extrinsic motivation for players to keep playing, something that was very lacking in vt2. Fatshark might be looking to remedy it

heavy bolters (regular bolters are already amazing), plasma cannons (regular plasma is uh...okay), lascannons (it's the lucius pattern lasgun with infinite punchthrough and 20x the damage, will one shot any elite and go through the entire horde), missile launchers (special action to load krak instead of frag missiles), heavy flamers (regular is already amazing, just do the same but 2x the range and 50% more damage), multilas (accatran pattern recon lasgun on crack, 2x the firing speed, 50% more damage, still sucks vs armor), the options are all amazing

i mean, the power sword may actually be the best overall melee weapon in the game, it's good for elites and for hordes
i think there are a lot of zealots who would trade a thunder hammer for a power sword
there's a reason why it's THE iconic power weapon in the setting

i think the thunder hammer should have pen on its light, and unpowered attacks, at least as much as the axe, but the way a hammer is swung, it really shouldn't cleave too much, because you're just kinda pushing poxwalkers into other poxwalkers after the first 1-2, it's not going to go through them like a sharp weapon would
combat axe is really good, used it for a long time on my psyker

i haven't used the chainaxe because i unlocked it after the power sword, and...why would you put down the power sword
chainsword's also pretty good for horde clearing and for elite killing, the special action does so much damage, it'll shred a boss shield

granted shotguns are pretty good in this game (except vs armor), so if they make it an armor piercing shotgun with half the ammo, it's not going to be useless
I guess if it has the same range as the combat shotgun thats fine cause the combat shotgun rules
but there are going to be situations where you need that reach for snipers, bombers, flamers, trappers, dogs, etc., that need to die right now, and you can't chase it across the room through a horde
and melta gun isn't going to help you

psyker is pretty good vs armor if they use the lightning staff, brain bursting ogryns take a long time
yea, I feel the zealot excels at clearing close stuff all of it except the armor.. really I feel the armor can be mostly ignored until the little stuff is gone, but I play as an ogryn and the armored units are not super effective against the ogryn.
eviserator and thunder hammer are pretty great vs the big stuff, flamer's pretty great vs hordes, zealot is kind of ideally positioned to take on elites
ogryn just has so much stagger and knockback that they can sort of soft cc a lot of elites and wait for the other teammates to clean up, or just bash on the elites while they're down and eventually you'll get them
The only thing I want changed on the Power Hammer is the special attack
I want it to proc on the last hit and not the 1st one
Same for the Force Sword and the Chain Sword
I'd like to have them do something different on a heavy attack.
Give us that thunderous blast of AoE on a charged up TH heavy and a wide cleaving VRRRRRR on a charged up chainsword heavy.

I hear zealots whimper and complain about a lack of CC on discord about bullwurks and those carapace ogryns, thats my experience, but I haven't played the class or ever really noticed zealots taking those down, on heresy.

I have to agree with the other chats the past few days, mobility > camo
Combined with the other 2 options being either 75% reduced ranged damage during ult (which can be refreshed by killing elites thereby reducing ranged incoming damage) or the one I prefer, stamina gain on dodging ranged attacks, since I do a lot of sliding from cover to cover and to close in on enemies instead of trying to slug it out with them
I also like to stay with my teammates when they're for example carrying ammo cryo containers on logistratum, instead of stand on the side and kill the occasional special, like no, get in there, help carry, throw and shove enemies away.
I kill specials and stagger hordes, flagstorm is greet@for dealing with hordes too
I understand those vets probably also take deadshot, so they have even less stamina, but those are the same guy usually who can't dodge a dog or shove a burster
It can appear in missions with the "lights out" modifier, to my knowledge. I've seen it in diff 2, so it shouldn't be too gated.

So, I've been thinking: Do feats on veteran and zealot actually meaningfully improve the experience, and allow to do new things, or do relevant things better?
It occurred to me yesterday that that may be the case, but I just never felt it on my psyker. Which may be the Psyker feats, hence I'm asking.
I feel liek they give you the option to kinda enhance a certain playstyle or another, but nothing dramatic as forcing you into it

For example the 8 stacks of bleed on grenade is amazing if you care about teamwork at all, combined with grenade regenaration, because if you have an ogryn with bleed build on him, it means you can throw your bleed nade and he can charge in and at the destination already have the 50% damage immunity from bleeds without needing to build bleed stacks first, zealot also benefits if they have the bloodletting perk
I don't really know if / how bleeds interact with psykers though, psyker is the last class I need to get to 30

two biggest impact feats for vet imo are the grenade regen and the ability refresh perk and those mostly just enhance what you want to do anyways as vet
overall i guess they seem to have good synergy with what the vet wants to do

I guess that is a difference. Psyker just gets more synergies with warp charges, which you generate from Brain Burst, which is something you really don't want to do. 🤦♂️

I feel like the sweet spot for it is on malice can you can 1shot most specials, but then suddenly on heresy you can't 1shot BB a dog anymore, whereas on the 2 lower difficulties they're dead anyway before you finished your cast.
its great for ambient, horrible for horde/events
it does give you a ranged option if you run purge/surge staff though so at least you arent cowering in fear from a sniper like a flamer zealot/rippergun ogryn
That's why I like it, you don't even need a headshot, it's not a tool for hordes, it's one of your tools, like you pointed out for hordes you got staves and melee.
It's like having a 2nd ranged weapon
yes psyker is more like a multitool, not as good as a dedicated tool, but can definitely solve alot of problems

yeah unironically it's really important to weaken BB targets @patent sapphire
there's loads of times I've 1 shotted a BB target that isn't technically 1shottable simply because my team was also laying into them
i haven’t gone into meat grinder with psyker so idk how much damage it actually does
but i figure it’s still high damage just not killing
I find this part very anoying in a way actually.
Because a lot of people don't mark enemies.
But then when I BB something, they pay attention to that guy, because why would I be BBin'g it otherwise, so then they start taking it down.
it tends to do 70% or so of required damage
it also gives you a invalidate bulwark tool no matter what your melee/ranged loadout is

use it against a boss and see their hp drop comically fast
its just like a fast brainburst but melee and you cant dodge
I've been using the combat axe instead to have a bit more stamina for combat and pushing, haven't really given the force sword a proper try, but the low stamina was off-putting for me
force sword push can floor all elites except bulwark
you can offset the low stam with the peril-replaces-stamina talent at lvl 20
but i would suggest duelling sword, its like a faster axe with a little less armor pen

dueling sword is nothing like the axe, it takes ages to kill anyone with it
axe oneshots a lot of standard guys
The problem is that you're pressing LMB while staring at a wall for 3 seconds, to do something the Vet can do better, when you could instead be using your force staffs to not only contribute more, but also have significantly more fun.
That's why I took it mostly, so that if some trash gets through I can just 1 slice chop it and go back to staff

i use the mk V

i usually combo it with the surge staff because surge has the cc, my melee can be damage/horde/elite dps
if you use voidstrike/purge force sword might be better because you get the forcesword push to help you deal with ragers
I also went with surge staff, the damage potential of the voidstrike is undeniable, but being able to CC even elites with surge, simply to prevent them from hitting my teammates, felt very powerful
I had 1 guy complain though, he said me using surge near him made his sound go very hollow
The ability is mind.bogglingly boring, doesn't mesh at all with the rest of your kit, and on higher difficulties it isn't even particularly useful. Sure, it's nice to take out the odd sniper, or other special, from cover, but half your traits and feats require you to regularly use it - and unlike the grenades, that just isn't fun. It's repetitive. So I tend to just ignore it, and, by extension, warp charges, and thus the feats feel completely meaningless. Most levels at least have one choice that isn't related to warp charges, though Level 25 does not.
yea its a great, but i hate how unreliable it is depending on the density of the elite/horde mix
That's my own problem with it, the limited amount of targets and you don't know which ones it will pick
you dont need to care about warp charges imo it doesnt give you any meaningful breakpoints in heresy/damnation

Funilly enough I found that health curios help more surviving the curse than curse resistance, that's also why Ogryns have such an easy time with the curse (high base health), it seems to curse a certain amount of health, not a % of health.

I used to prioritize toughness, but these days I basically run 1 stamina and 2 health or 2 stamina and 1 health, but on heresy and damnation I'd like to bring 1 wound, 1 stamina, 1 health
I feel they also ruined their value
in VT2 1 grim was 50% of the value
here having 1 book is like 10% of the value
you either go all in or you ignore it completely
yeah it's weird
valuing is something they can easily tweak though, so that's good at least
i think you need just 1 toughness to make sure you dont get immediately broken after 1 burst from dregs
then stamina is good
I mostly malice, only occasionally heresy, and only did damnation twice, but I prefer to get in melee with the ranged guys before aggroing, tieing them up in melee before they start shooting, but indeed if they're already blasting you, that's when extra toughness definitely starts paying off
I found that the slugfests usually were the slow attrition to death of the team, not so much the melee stuff
toughness regen is pretty mad when you have an ogryn with the +100% regen aoe talent

They already said in the past that they will, instead of more characters, go with extra careers on their next title, which happens to be darktide.
Traits like the Ogryn's extra stagger on melee, when he already has a completely exclusive set of melee weapons, only make sense if there's a future class without that trait.
So I expect a second set of classes next year.
They can mostly keep the voice lines and everything, too. I hope for a Psyker class that... does something. Anything different from the current one is a win in my book. A less tedious "grenade", a more impressive active, feats I might actually want. I'm leveling towards level 30 just so I can try the soulfire spam, and if that is as underwhelming as it well may be, I guess I'll sit it out on my Ogryn until such a time that people convince me to try again.

So, if I understand this right: Perks and such all go into an items "budget", so the theoretically best items to get, are grey, that you hand-upgrade at the crafter, because they have their full budget spend on stats, and get perks on top?
it’s possible to get a green/blue/purple with high stats but rare and we don’t have the info to accurately tell the actual base rating without doing pixel measurements yet
if you start from a grey one you know for a fact how many points are stats and how many points are perks/blessings

I had a infantry lasgun with infernus that was really strong. But since it didn't have a "crit" stat on it, I assume each attack has a baseline crit chance. So when I found a recon lasgun with infernus on it I went: "Oh this is gonna be so much better, much higher fire rate, much more crits" but then I tried it and it turns out: the higher fire rate weapon has a WAY lower crit chance. To the point that I would have fewer crits per minute, despite having way more shots per minute.
But that's super min-maxy to the point where I just wonder how much of a difference it makes.
Depth of field makes stuff you're not looking at blurry. Some think it's pretty, some think it's ugly, it has not a huge performance impact.

This is a depth of field effect. What's not in focus appears blurry.
From what I recall, the DoF effect in darktide is quite minor.
Does it also affect non-ADS as well? Like blurring far objects?
The only moments where I noticed a strong dof effect was when downed:
If you open that to full screen, you can see it quite strongly. I believe during normal gameplay, dof is almost non-existent.

I don't think dof would have a real impact on you seeing anything during regular gameplay if I'm quite honest. But you can feel free to turn it off. Personally I just usually get rid of bloom as I don't like it.
You might want to disable motion blur as well. I think that was in the options.

Actually, consecrating an item increases its rating by the point cost of the perk or blessing being added.
White items theoretically go to 400 rating, orange items may reach 560 or so (give or take).
A white item is superior as a crafting base if found in the shop with a similar rating, but usually, higher rarity items you can buy will have a higher rating.

you should use your regular coins to buy higher rated items in the shop periodically
upgrading a weapon from white is end game stuff for people with too much time/money

The way I do it is tier 1, level 1-10, tier 2, 10-20, tier 3 level 20-30. Tier 4 is if you hate yourself

Two ways to fight range. Have a firefight and get a bunch of chip damage, or have your melee guys go in so they drop their weapons

As with just about every game ever, don't use currencies for upgrading, adjusting, etc until max level.
You can, and it's your experience so do what you want in order for YOU to have fun, but it's just not efficient to do

Eh. Is it me or game runs like a shit again? Ikr the launch reset settings, made them the same as during the beta, and it's crap.
