-> shit-from-a-butt mixing and production that just completely BLASTS you with noise
-> unplacable genre except broad, sweeping terms. smatterings of mathcore, metalcore, screamo, noise rock, Straight-Up noise... (and sasscore? if you recognize sasscore as a thing) blending together into a very distinct sound
-> weird, disjointed, mathy angular riffing that melts into obscene grooves
-> heavy percussion that sound like a shotgun being fired right in your ear
-> strange lyrical tangents that border on nonsense

Masterclass in bizzare avant-screamo. One of like 5 bands worthy of being called Post-Hardcore for it truly does put the "Post" in Post-Hardcore.
If you haven't listened to In The Grips Of The Light you are missing out on a mind shattering album. There is nothing else like this, not since it was released and still not now. Completely and utterly unmatched. Uniquely deranged and detached from reality.
Mike Anderson's range, [schizophrenic jibber-jabber and babbling to hysterical shrieking and desperate moaning and wailing (Black Dresses who?) to barely coherent spoken word] Guitars that're played like they're announcing the end of the world via total nuclear annihilation, supernaturally groovy baselines, nimble drumming, almost every track filled with minutes of Pure Noise as provided by the turntablist... Everything comes together just so perfectly. Every time the band locks into a groove it all immediately falls apart into chaos again. The shortest song on the album is 4 minutes long.
The closest comparisons I can give, as impossible as it is, are Black Dresses (primarily in the vocals department, but only loosely. Listen to the opening of Flip N' Fuck and tell me that Mike Anderson's moaning doesn't sound exactly like Devi's + Some of his shrieks remind me of Rook's) early Butthole Surfers (in the sense that it's the loosest construction of Punk possible), Usurp Synapse (Similar guitar abuse + Racebannon shared members with Usurp Synapse), sprinkles of The Melvins and Antioch Arrow (Influences cited by the band) all with a smattering of a Glam Rock attitude. Kind of. I read somewhere that someone likened this album to Sweet after having a psychotic break.
If there is one album that I post here that you listen to, let it be In The Grips Of The Light. I will kill you
Also Racebannon covers fucking Captain Beefheart and it's one of the less deranged cuts on this album somehow
Realistically I could gush about this album for like another whole hour (haven't even touched on Mike Anderson's lyrics or the absolute mind-rending experience that's the twelve minute Im Yr Egomaniac (In The Grips Of The Light) ) but I am stopping myself here for your sake.
