"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE

having kind of a rough day but on the bright side i think i finally know what Just Got Back From the Discomfort is about
so like that is album is trying reaaaaaaally hard to be prog rock album right? its got kinda technical guitar bits, lyrical and melodic motifs that keep popping up, its arranged in a very cohesive way, all very impressive stuff for a conceptual™ piece of art. BUT its doing so with super amateurish aesthetics; the production sucks to the point where the album sounds like it was made with toys, and adam sings in such a way where dude literally sounds like spongebob! its almost like a kid trying to articulate some complicated "adult" idea but with the language a kid would be familiar with. it reminds me of being an adult in a childs body that grows up to be a child in an adults body, i guess. sort of like, having these big complex emotions forced on you before you have the faculties to even understand what it is your feeling, let alone cope with it

that "I think ill leave this place now" line gets me no matter what point in my life i hear it, but boooooy does it hit different rn lol

So much of the album feels like you’re reading the rants of a kid in a shitty situation and none of the tools to make it better
The motif of “as if I were asleep” kinda hammers it home for me, because it’s such a desperate effort for escape

Like that's always the big climax of their albums (bug infested floorboards on just got back or born again on masked dancers), but they fact that it keeps coming back up suggests that whoever's speaking never really left. Not 100% at least
I was talking to aggy one day abt why i love midwest emo. For me the thing that always gets me is the vibe of bittersweet longing untethered to the past and allowed to flirt with the present and future as well; its nostalgia unstuck in time. BLA takes that idea and sprints with it

I've only read slaughterhouse 5 but its such a big deal for me
I finished it when I was kept overnight at a crisis center; the book was only thing of mine I could convince the nurses to let me keep. I think in my head it's taken the shape of the wax seal over the envelope of my teenagerdom; the end of such a specific emotional state and group of people and set of places in my life

my emo knowledge is severely lacking, def not my main genre. I love this album especially because it has a lot of the wistfulness and melancholic nostalgia of emo with a more mature vocal and lyrical style. Doesn't have the very kinda teenagery feel some emo has that I don't care for. I don't mean mature as in better, just feels like someone in their early 30s reflecting on things rather than someone in their early 20s. I'm starting to relate to that stuff a lot more, now having lost grandparents and watching my mom and dad get grey hair and a lot more wrinkles in their faces.

despite Loss being MAHCIU's most well regarded release i think its kinda mediocore. its obviously not a shit record by any means (see: the gorgeous ambient / noise interludes + 4 or 5 of the tracks outside of those are really good as well) but it just doesnt do anything crazy for me
i wish ppl appreciated Meadow Drive Sessions and the House Demos more. Meadow Drive Sessions is unbelievably beautiful from start to finish
i also wanna say "man i wish ppl appreciated The C: Drive Of Lost Love Stories" but also People Do. not nearly as much as Loss though which is a goddamn shame but its nowhere near as slept on as the rest of MAHCIU's discography

Hell, a lot of 5th wave is technically skramz and in most DIY scenes there’s still plenty of more traditional punks who would love the presence of an emoviolence band in their scene
