Okayy, thanks I’m still at pet sematary and it goes a little bit spooky but I still liked it.
That’s great!! I haven’t read that one yet. Enjoy and let us know what you think about it once u finish it < 3
Thank you !
Nup. I take it I should?
idk
that scared me more than any horror movie ever did
Does anybody have a recommendation for mystery and romance books? Any of your favorites?
I think it’s a classic but Jane Austen’s romance books are very good.
And for mystery Agatha Christie’s books are good too.
I finished it yesterday and I think it was soooo good
Idk how to say my reaction to book without any spoiler lol but it was good, thanks .
Now I will start to 11/22/63 I’m so excited about it
Heyyyy. Long time coming... can anyone please be kind enough to let me know where the book club is at the moment? I lost track and can't seem to keep up
😅
Actually the book club is revamped and you can find the new changes at #book-club-calendar. We are starting the first session probably next Sunday as per the survey.

Hi! I highly suggest you to read Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage , it's a personal favourite of mine among Murakami's works :)
Ok 😊
omg... it's an amazing book
i loved it sm
Ikr? I think it's so underrated
About Kafka on the shore ... I'm not sure, I love Murakami's writing but it was too allegorical even for him
But that's just my personal opinion of course!
i did not finish kafka on the shore so i can't give a proper opinion on it but colorless tsukuru tazaki was really good
Did everyone got tagged for the stage channel? Or only those with Book club notifs role?

Oh yeah. This sounds like an amazing idea. I am pretty sure @stable ocean can do something about this.
what book are you guys doing rn?
not sure, i can always try but i wouldn't be too confident haha
Not sure about this week(Will probably think one by midnight). The last one was "How to win friends and influence people" and before that "Deep Work".
do you guys finish a book or is it a different book every week
It's like every monday a book will be posted and its respective pdf copy on #book-club-calendar . And on every Sunday, the summary of that particular book will be read.
ohh okay
hello, so I’ve been wondering, is the club still reading a book right now? Cuz I’ve entered and can’t hear anybody talking
it is done
Right, thanks for telling me, cuz I’ve been questioning my sound setting xD
in what genres can 1984 be included excluding fiction
hmm i’d say thought provoking
books like Fahrenheit 451, 1984, brave new world, have a common genre right. i forgot what the name of genre, honestly i dont know if its genre at all. i think it was a phrase...
something like post apocalyptic...
Dystopian
oh yes thats the word. thanx! @alpine dove
The book, attitude is everything, is ass.
Its has good ratings on Kindle
I started reading a book, thought of developing some habits... But it's getting boring after reading 5 pages!
Am not reading that book
Oh aight
This one
Hmmmmm
Hi, I was thinking about joining you all in this book club, but are you only gonna read self-help books?
i think he tried reading fictions, but people got bored, and its just summaries. knowing summaries of novels isnt... its all about those words that immerse us
Prüfungstraining Goethe-Zertifikat A2
does anyone have this pdf. please can u share. i have exams in a week
There are some sites mentioned in the pin section. Check it@faint epoch
@faint epoch (the pin section in the #845877644599361576 channel :) )
Oh that sucks, it makes sense I guess, summaries are good for self-help books but there's no point on reading a summary of a literary work.
Even in Self-Help books it depends, the thing is, when you read the whole thing, you get to relate to things that could not be achieved while reading just the summary of something. Reading the whole book provides invaluable advice that cannot be utilized to their fullest extent only by reading their summaries. But it's just me. Don't believe me.
What if I am already omniscient.
Maybe? Plato said that nothing is ever learned, just remembered.
is samsung s6 lite tab good for book reading im thinking to get one for reading and note making for school
so the word learn is useless
hey all
hey
i would say yes
the movie is great and now i’m on part 2 of the book and it’s been really good so far
is the book for this week book club good?
i’m not quite interested in the topic of attitude but well i’ll give it a try if it’s good
hi guys
I need some help here
can someone get me this book
Zimmerman J., 2011. Accounting for decision making and control. 7th Ed. New York; London: McGraw Hill
Thanks for the good knowledge xd
Can someone tell me what is the screen that James uses for reading ebooks is called?
Is it just a simple tablet?
sony ps 505
Nice
If you wanna read summaries of self-help books and also want to make a regular reading habit, this app can help - bookletguy.com
hello all. in case anybody here has read The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus, i'd really appreciate if you could reach out. i've had a lot of questions in my reading that i haven't been able to find answers for online, especially as they pertain to individual quotes rather than overarching concepts. thank you, and feel free to DM. :)
what exactly are ur questions tho?
i've read it
nothing much interesting tbh
🙂

thanks for the summary and organization of the Book Club
Thank you everyone for attending.!! Appreciate it. ^_^
thanks ❤️
aah i missed it 😭
The numerical 3.69 and 3.93 are the average rating of the particular books overall by everyone.
lol i felt bad for finding lord of the flies hard to get through..
the great gatsby has the same writing style.. too verbose... but i actually liked lotf because the last 40-50 pages are a shift and make it worth it.. for the great gatsby i had seen the movie so perhaps that dulled the experience
.
Hey, where do you guys discuss about books with tour conoces? or don't you hace anything like that here?
Try searching for books related to Stoicism, "How to be stoic" by Massimo Pagliucci for a modern book and Enchirdion for a primary text. Good Luck.
Is this from youtube
Huh?
The video above. Is it from youtube
Idk i didnt post it👀
DOES ANY ONE USE NOTION AS A READING TRACKER?
This is not related to the books but can someone tell me where can I set or turn off that this discord doesn’t automatically pops up or opens every time I turn my computer on?
i think in the task manager
and to open the Task Manager just press Ctrl + Shift + Esc 😉
a friend helped me before i saw this but thank you anywaysss 😆
Its the 'Mindset' video he posted on his previous channel. Its called 'how i studied for 12 hours a day for over a year'.

How can we find out if our ikigai is actually ours, and is not influenced/ conditioned by the environment we live in? @true elm
which book we will discuss in the next session?
Experimentation has to be there right? That's what scares me the most! Great answer tho, thankyou @true elm
thank you skullcrusher :)
Thank you phil and everyone else for hoping by. :))
You wake up everyday and try despite feeling low, don't you think is an achievement in itself? And don't be scared, everything in our lives happens for a reason, with a motive to teach us something. Just remind youself what actions of yours led you to that particular situation, you don't wanna get into again. It was a phase to teach you something, to make you stronger, and now its over. And it didn't leave you the way you were before, right? You got this! Just keep going, keep experimenting, your ikigai will find you very soon. @muted pollen
Yeah I'm much better now i feel happy and excited about things like i used to be and i learned a lot of things from my experience now I'm trying to fix the things that i didn't care about for so long like health and studies
Also it's my birthday today i really appreciate your message

"To procure friendship only for better and not for worse is to rob it of all its dignity"
- Seneca (Letters from a Stoic)
I can't comprehend this holy knowledge 😶
basically, treat your friends as an end, not as a means
it's also like any relationship, it is not valuable if you are only there for eachother in good times, and not in bad ones as well
hence robbing that relation from its dignity
I'm trying to increase my reading speed, I find myself subvocalizing words, if someone around here is a fast reader....how do you make it stop?
You can try setting a specific goal for yourself, such as reading one chapter or 10 pages per day, and then slowly increase your speed as you feel more comfortable. At a certain point, the subvocalisation shall disappear naturally I think
practice practice practice, also try to "dezoom" and focus on the whole sentence rather than each and every word, or even begining with groups of words (especially if you read in your mother tongue, i guess it's harder for your second/ other languages)
yeah, it is mostly in second language actually....
but I'll try that what you said , thank you bonbon!
also like, i do prefer reading slowly and understanding / remembering what i read vs reading fast and not grasping the interesting details so...
quality over quantity hehe
As a writer, would you rather use your real name or a pen name, and why?
Personally, I think I’d use a pen name. My real name is uncommon, but at the same time, I value my privacy. If I wanted to use my real name, I’d probably use it in the sense I wanna be recognized for my work.
Not a writer, but I'd like to share my view to this interesting question. I believe someone would let his/her name on a work, if he wants to brand him/herself. While a person, that use an imaginary name, most of the time tries to create another living persona that is not associated with IRL. Thus the aim here is to play with the imagination of the public rather than increase the value of him/herself.
bro i never think of it like that. such an interesting perspective, thanks

I never attended one of those sessions but next one seems interesting so I have the same question, maybe @true elm can answer
if it's just participating, in the session you can click a button to ask permission to speak and skullcrusher will grant you the possibility of opening your mic and speak/ interact ; if it is about being a speaker for the overview and all you should indeed contact him (skullcrusher) since he is the one to coordinate the events 🙂

I'd like to read about two to four pages per day and discuss them afterwards. Please send me a direct message if you're interested. I will limit the people participating to 5 :))
You should google it it’s very descriptive

There is this app called Libby where if you have a Digital library card you can access all of the collections of Newyork Public Library for free (Both Audiobooks and Reading Version). These digital library cards are offered to Newyork residents. So if anyone has a NYPL library card or planning to get one, if you are willing can you share me the card details.
Thank you, have a great day!
started reading yukio mishima and boy did it hit hard
hey idk if this is the right place to ask, but I've been reading the book Make Time: How to Focus on What Matters from a couple weeks back and was wondering if anyone knew of some ways to implement the strategies of the book in a rigid high-school environment. This book is geared towards college/professionals with a more free flowing daily schedule it seems. Anyone got any tips?
what's the name of the book?
Hi everyone
i have been reading H.G wells, short history of the world, did you guys like it
I'm so tired 😓
I’ve read it before. I really enjoyed it, there’s a whole series of books
Really?
I am on chapter 9
Yeah, I think my favourite book is actually the fourth one. But the whole series is really good
Do you recommend a place I could read it on but pdf?
“The river” is the next book in the series
I read it on a physical copy though so I’m not really sure where you can read them online
what is his username?
it's jvscholz
hello , so i wanted to ask,did you guys read this book ;H.G wells the time machine

Hi
ok i have to read this this looks interesting
Damn the Godfather book is amazing. I thought it would be less entertaining than the movie
i agree.. that book was really tedious to read...
Yeah i like the main idea, working full focused it is. But there was too much examples about same thing like checking e-mail ect.
I never completed the book. Not to say it's bad but it had a lot of unnecessary stretches that just bored me when I did read it, some 4 years ago maybe. Now I look at it more as a time to time pick up
Is there a good english translation of it?
Did watch a bit of the show
Ye
There's an official translation
currently reading "waking up" by sam harris, and wow does it feel weird.. its like if alan watts pursued neuroscience instead of theology, they say alot of the same stuff, just sam harris is alot more rigorous
Sam's great
Hey guys what do you prefer ebooks or normal books because i think that ebooks have bad consequences like staring at the screen for hours =headaches and pain in eyes idk(give me advice pls and ur opinions)
get a kindle.. a paperwhite which ever is the latest model..
I like both, like Rose said kindle and other E-readers use e-ink technology which is really easy on the eyes
I like having classics and books that I'll re-read in paper print though as it's nice to re-read them once in a while
check in #book-recommendations someone already asked that question
polska gurom🇵🇱
Yall I'm confused on what book to get
Love hypothesis
Evelyn Hugo and her seven husbands
It ends with us
I have heard Evelyn Hugo is very good. I have read none tho
Are you looking for sci-fi or autobiography?
I hear that a Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking is good.
lex fridman podcast
also maybe how to teach your dog quantum physics can help
not frankenstein
Do you guys know any websites where I can get free audiobooks? Been trying to find Adam Key's This is Going to Hurt.
try audiobookbay
i also recommend checking out your local library online. so many of them have overdrive accounts, borrowbox etc that you can get for free just using your library log in!
v enjoyable read, have you checked if your local library has a libby account?
Thanks!
I am in China but trying to get an english audiobook, so local library is off the table. I am going to uni in the US this fall tho. Will definitely check out local library then!
it ends with us!!! its not a romcom but you will love it, coleen hovver is amazingg.
dont try mickiewicz
Has anyone here read D H Lawrence's blind man. I didnt quite understand what the author was trying to say

IKRR
:flushed: only 13+ :flushed: are allowed to look at my about me :smirk_cat:
stop spamming dude
hey @everyone why is this @fossil vapor spaamming
Wings of fire by APJ abdul kalam, Surely u r joking mr feynmen by Richard feynman.
Both of them are best reads tbh, they r both phenomenol books written by the greatest and most bad arse scientist of the 20th century. I would also reccomend reading all of Feynman's books later as u progress. Books like "The pleasure of finding things out" and stuff
I posted an answer to this one in the #book-recommendations club. feel free to dm I will send u that answer. <33, or I can copy paste here if u want. XDD
i already discovered that i hate reading ebooks i can't even read i just do if necessary so yeah for now im reading physical books is that the right term idk lol anyway thank you for answering shelly
Well if u want to study from ebooks then It's a whole diff matter. I would recommend buying a good tab to mark pdfs and such. But e readers can be nice, better than reading on the phone. But to each their own
XXXD
It's the smell of new/old books and the feeling of turning a page physically for me. Such a vibe
same thing for me sometimes i stop reading and just smell the book lol it's just an amazing feeling not everyone can understand it
Same, like same. Just out of nowhere I want to smell the book. Weird kinks only👌🏼
I've read the secret history and girl with dragon tattoo back to back, how does one recover
?
read abafi the son of aba if you're Hungarian then buy the original one because the English translation is shit tbh gl
Actually wanted to read that for a long time! Have you read it in hungarian? Is it good?
it's amazing trust me sadly im not Hungarian lol (im learning it btw) but yeah even the English translation is amazing
Damn your learning hungarian? How come? I'm a native hungarian btw🙃
nice to meet you
anyone who reads philosophical and nihilistic shit like camus, nietzsche, dostoevsky, freud, etc etc
lets be friends and share opinions
DMs open
Bro we're soul mates I'm down
Do you guys have a specific time to read self help books? Or should I read some pages whenever I get the time?
First thing in the morning works for me
You want your head to be mostly calm when reading, not stressed. So early morning works but night might work too
30 -15 minutes everyday before sleeping is enough
im gonna reread atomic habits, and actually apply it this time
Mood😂 I read it twice, but it's so hard to apply it in real life (at least for me)
Thanks for the recommendations @ivory onyx and @muted pollen, since I'm in my vacations I'll read 30 - 45 minutes in the morning and night :)
dude i didn't see that earlier
I'm too damn obsessed w Nietzsche atm and its like he's making me empty day by day
You like that he’s making you empty?
its inevitable
<@&942391219206647828>
how's it going?
<@&942391219206647828> crounchy
i like camus, nietzche is too difficult for me to read, but i am making it a goal to finish thus spoke zarasuthra this month.. but nietzche is my favourite philosopher overall, he has a reputation of being a nihilist, but hearing from other lecturers that have took the time to read him, thats only step 1, he first breaks you down with nihilism but then attempts to rebuild you into something better, but i think he might have gone mad trying to accomplish the second step.. idk.. but he is actually a positive philosopher despite his hard life
camus says theres no meaning to life but says we dont need a meaning to live a good life, these guys still have a positive outlook. someone like schopanhaur is really sad, i get chills just looking at a picture of him
take your time with Nietzsche
the more you know about him, the more you'll be amazed and the more you'll understand his philosophy
his philosophy cannot be put into simple words, its not meant to be simple, another thing Nietzsche was not a nihilist you'll understand it eventually as you keep reading
Bu ne kanka bu kanalla alakası nedir
Hey does anyone have a copy of the bullet journal method?

this is a cool channel
their is a channel called 3blue1brown it teaches mathconcepts with the help of graphical representations you can check it out
hello, do you have any recommendations for someone who can't go though any book?
try setting a target of reading reading 5 pages per day. This always works for me.
what is your area of interest? fiction/ non fiction?
personally, i used to make targets. For ex like, i have to finish a certain book for a certain time. then i make the target bigger. Do it slowly from a book to more books. U can try this app > Story Graph
start with something that's really interesting to you, even a guilty pleasure lol, and try to read at least 20 minutes every day at first and schedule a time for it on your calendar
nothing too obscure and long like Charles Dickens or something 🤣
This was a really really good read 😊😊 will definitely be implementing this haha
if you’re on holiday then a good start is to take a free day and sit down and read…it’ll be boring at first probably but if you spend a few hours that first day the rest should be easier (hopefully!)
non fiction, actually i enjoy topics related to personal development, but i don't know if it's a good starting point
Currently I'm reading - or I would say I'm trying to read - "Atomic habits", although it turns out that there is a huge gap between reading/learning something and implementing it in a real life. Implementation is pretty tough process and that's what I struggle with.
try reading the bullet journal method - it touches on pretty similar concepts to atomic habits but focuses on making an effective planner, which might help the implementation bit
I found I struggled with implementing it as well but I think Taking notes while reading it and then following up on those might help. Also https://jamesclear.com/ has some of the main concepts of the book broken down into short, easy to understand and implement articles.
James Clear is an author, entrepreneur, and photographer in 25+ countries. JamesClear.com is the home of his writing and work.
thanks, ill try it 🙂 Fun fact - today I got to the chapter where James Clear mentioned about "Tiny habits" strategy by B.J Fogg and I think it's very useful idea (sticking a new habit to the one that we have already) - that might help .
Anyone has Procrastination elimination guide by John Isaac ebook?
I must read a book for Englisch named black swan green by david mitchell, do you have any study guide that i can use. I need them really hard. Or do you know someone has one?
oh so you want to read non fiction in order to implement! i see. as for me, idk why i can never read a non fiction book. i've tried to but i've never completed any. maybe because i've always read fiction i find it difficult to read something in my free time that is self-reflecting because i've always loved how fiction makes me escape reality.
one day i was so determined and i decided to read a self help and complete it, so i thought maybe i need an author who makes reading self-help fun
and that's when i found Jen Sincero.
i think one such author is Mark Manson too.
