think books and an ereader, think the same one that ihave
i think he has this
i wouldnt recommend getting one though, ive had some issues with certain books and theres no rhyme or reason why. sometimes going to the next page crashes it, sometimes the pages take a minute to turn, some books work flawlessly and are great.
how does it work?
is it the same like a kindle?
what is the OS ?
runs sonys shit, just chuck the files on
takes an sd card too
but calibre is the best for managing your ebooks
yea can do
is there another way?
also epub for both
not on the sony one
i have this too
its the main one i use
the boox is really nice, really thin and 30gb
plus youve got an adjustable backlight and runs android
so ive got my local librarys app on there so i can loan ebooks which i cant dl illegally
sounds like one can make a nice setup
the best thing is the screen tbh
you can adjust how cold or warm you want the display to be
and it adjusts brightness too so you dont waste battery when its sunny out
basically i'm looking for a convenient way to read books
you know, something easy and reliable
yeah i mean a kindle would be fine
i just didnt get one as in norway its hard to get one without the ads
and theres no way im having an ebook with ads on the lock screen
this is pretty good, water resistence too
but not sure how a kindle is with regards to book piracy and such
I use Lithium to read some books....Try it if you want
It is
i read fine in my laptop and in my iphone, the pther day a bought a big bundle of ebooks of all genres and in spanish. it was then dollars
If you are in the US and can get a library card(most have online applications now) Libby or OverDrive both have free Kindle/Ereader and audiobooks to download for 21 days and can be renewed for more
Where can you find these items?
What items are you looking for
Like a good website for you to find old collectable techs n stuff
I don't use E bay nor amazon though, any other options?
anyone can suggest a good brightness and warmth shedule in night with no light whilew we are reading
Etsy?
it's very easy to load books on them
u can contact amazon and they'll remove the ads for free (life hack)

You will need to find a site where people sell their stuff. The only site i know only of is e bay. Search the internet for one
Aight then thx
guys this might be weird but any Hitler book recommendations?
to like really know what was going thru his mind throughout the war and everything
Hitler's Table Talk 1941-1944 (Hitler's Table Talk)
throughout the war specifically
but you also have "mein kempf" and "hitler's second book" if you, for god knows reasons, want to know more about his thoughts
be careful reading btw
@muted pollen
thanks for the warning 🤣
i just you know want to know what was going through the most evil man mind
help me choose btw these two books please
Im a beginner english learner and I'm also a bookworm and i want to find a book that is both good story wise and have beginner vocabs for me to understand them (of course i'd be using a dictionary)
I would say Dorian Gray has some more advanced vocabulary, but it is much shorter so probably easier to get through
if you decide to go for a little life PLEASE read the trigger warnings because it is very graphic in some parts
I've decided choose Dorian Gray because it's less pricey and highly recommended by most english learners
Thanks for ur suggestion.
Yeah its one of my favorite books ever, enjoy!
Can anyone suggest me books like The Basketball diaries or Diary of a young girl?thanks
Are you trying to say Diary of a young girl that written by İpek Ongun?
I want James e reader for China lol
what's the difference
Nah,Anne frank
I see, in my country there is a book series that has the same name of it so I asked
Idk
Seems better and more simple
Besides I don’t want to support a popular brand
are you norwegian?
Hey anyone know what James uses to read and download books- there’s a particular device he uses ,do you know which model?
Thanks! I know he used a hisense touch as well, what was that used for?
anyone read a little life?
not yet, i heard it's a little traumatizing
yea, I'm half way through and damn. i thought to myself can it get any worse than this
Can someone recommend me a book, to not be a lazy fuck anymore. Like if i wanna study 1min l8r i get more interested in watching youtube lol
For A Little Life, I recommend reading the trigger warnings first as it really hits alot of trauma checkboxes
Is Little life that traumatic
I did read them, i went back and forth until i made sure i was ready to read it. But still even tho i knew all the tw; they hit u pretty bad along your reading journey
My main feeling on A Little Life is that it feels as though the trauma just keeps coming and just gets worse and worse. It exhausted me just reading about how these characters don't get a break. The writing is really good, but I feel you need to take a break if you want to read it. You can find some YouTube videos of people reading it and just breaking down
True. I feel the author went overboard with some of the stuff the characters went through
Is there a link for it I'd like to read it
Just dm'd it
I would recommend, if you'd like to get a feel of the author's writing, you can start with The People in the Trees. A lot less devastating than A Little Life, although the ending gets more serious. I find it much more accessible. I haven't read the author's most recent book
I'm down to read watever I'm currently reading one "The communist-manifesto" even tho it doesn't sound funny it's kinda funny to me
that's more of a pamphlet rather than a proper book on marxism
Ik but I'm kinda running out of things that are interesting to read so 🥲🥲
Guys can anyone tell me some interesting books to read in sci-fi fantasy horror
Maybe historical
Please DM me If you guys know any
And some time travel
Paradox Etc
@turbid eagle yo man can ya dm me a little life too, much appreciated nd sry for ping
done
Does anyone know the status of the book club or if it will come back?

can someone send the ebook deep work that james recommended ?
Hello, does some have 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene downloaded? I would appreciate, if you share it with me
I don't have a download, but there's a pdf online by archive.org online. I searched up "archive.org 48 laws of power robert greene" and got it in the second result (and u can download it from there). Also, I highly suggest reading "The Laws of Human Nature" by Robert Greene first, as it is more ethical , gives you a better insight on the 48 laws of power book, and is very useful for self help too

Hey , thanks for the interest. Unfortunately, due to my hectic schedule, I am unable to conduct the book club sessions. I will start them possibly by upcoming December. Apologies. >_<
Ah, no worries. I was just wondering about it
Can we have this pinned? 🙂
No worries. Life is important and they come in waves. Curious still, what are you currently reading? 🙂
check #845877644599361576 pinned messages !!
Hey, thanks.! I am currently reading "Maybe you should talk to someone". It kind of focuses on a therapist life and the life revolving around her patients. States why empathy and listening are important factors in forming human bonds.
As Cecil said, I originally posted it in #845877644599361576 as the 1st message in that channel. You can always find it there.
Is there a book you would recommend for personal development?

how can i join the book club in goodreads? i saw it in britto's profile (but idk britto's handle here).
i think its invite only
not sure tho, can we ask the mods?
Reading Game of Thrones, good book to pass the times for a quick read since it has small chapters and a very long length.
Hİ
not yet, what do you think abt it?
Oh great I want to read it as well as Lord of the ring but they are intimidating 😅
Hи
I've been listening to the audiobook. He is really vulnerable and honest about innermost thoughts and how it relates to running. I like the part about not being really competitive because I am the same way.. not motivated by being better than some other person. I feel like this book will inspire me to start setting running goals.. eventually 😊
Lol I only read a few chapters of LOTR and gave up. It´s basically a history or anthropology books with a plot going on simultaneously. GOT is more accessible because you slowly discover about the world through the point of view of each character, instead of getting massive exposition dumps. But then again, it depends on each person´s taste, some people get overwhelmed by the massive amount of characters.
probably better to start with the hobbit, LOTR is way more fantasy at core (and let's not talk about the Silmarillion)
Yeah I totally read The Hobbit when I was a kid and I thought it was a really decent read.
I personally found the hobbit to be more interesting than LOTR
I dunno I read The Hobbit when I was 10, it´s a kid´s book so maybe I wouldn´t find it as entertaining now that I´m an adult🤔
If you think The Hobbit was slow, LOTR is way slower! There is a chapter right in the beginning, that´s entirely dedicated to Frodo and the other hobbits getting lost in a forest. And then the next chapter is just them randomly finding two elves in the woods and getting drunk and partying with them lol.
I think these books are more about taking your sweet time reading them and getting lost in their world, if you read it just for the story I´m pretty sure you´ll just end up frustrated.
I wouldn´t doubt it lol, he spends 40 pages just talking about the history of the hobbits right in the beginning of the book
That sort of poem thingy talking about the rings of power is just like a page or something
But I might be slightly off, I read those first chapters like five years ago
For LOTR, I'd just read the Tom Bombadil parts 😆
The chat "book links" is closing down. As a community server we really can't have any activities going on like that. Sorry guys!

Here's the particular guideline. Unfortunately, this includes all pirated content. :/
13. You may not promote, distribute, or provide access to content involving the hacking, cracking, or distribution of pirated software or stolen accounts. This includes sharing or selling cheats or hacks that may negatively affect others in multiplayer games
Yeah i’m not justifying it in any way i’m saying delete the chats with any pirated links and possibly suspend the accounts that want to keep doing it

hey guys
anyone know where i can find atomic habits by james clear
@muted pollen :)
This isn't really a book club...... is it
could you explain more? whats darkweb and tor means torrent right?
To explain simply, the dark web is part of the internet that isn't visible to search engines and requires the use of an anonymizing browser called Tor to be accessed so it's different from torrent
Whats the link for darkweb version of that website
book club is currently on a break and will start up again soon as mentioned in #book-club-calendar :)
what would you suggest to a person who tend to lose interest in middle of the book and ultimately drops it. How to focus and finish the book completely? I have dropped a lot of book and when i think about continuing it, i get no motivation.
Any advice you could give would be much appreciated
You cannot be hooked till entire book yk
It gets interesting and becomes boring eventually and then becomes interesting again and the cycle goes on
Read something scandalous - i.e. full of boobies and killing and excitement
if a book is uninteresting to you, maybe try other book genres and topics that you're excited about and start them asap. if you have an attention problem, I recommend trying audiobooks by themselves, or read the books while listening to the audiobook. I don't do this anymore, but I did it back in high school to get through a very lengthy book and found it to be an efficient method
If you find the middle part boring, flip a few chapters and read one at random, find an interesting line , like ' y/n cried to her father' , wonder why she is crying, flip back to find the reason, see another situation which you need back story for and flip a few chapters back and eventually you will end up from where you left, you will realise this part is necessary to read and voilla! You will not lose interest. (That's what I do)
And! If you read a few chapters ahead and find that you don't need to read the previous pages to understand the story , then maybe it was a good choice to skip them. Saved you time :3
Read because you enjoy it and not because you have to do it.
thanks for suggestions l
have any of you guys read deep work
same it was just alright
thanks

I want to understand the behaviour of the others and powerful social concepts, like listening people, have an open body language etc..., to emprove empathy, to be aware of unusual social habits of other people and also to be able to behave myself accordingly to my aims - to make a girl love me, to be a leader in my circle of friends, to inspire other to work harder. Well i just found some interesting books recommended by chatgpt, so anyone has questions for openai can reply or dm me to get the answers
audiobookbay has been the most amazing one out there (for me) but i think their webpage is down lately
A book on fashion!
Here you go. Enjoy!
Thankssss
NP. I myself was impressed with the first book when I read the review about it, it seems that this AI has itselfs some fashion sense too hahaha
For sure better than mine
Maybe it fetches the books according to the reviews

I need this too
(btw I wrote you in DM regarding study buddy)
huh?
did i just see what i think i did
recently my friend told me about Murakami and his book, so I read " Tazaki and his years of pilgrimage". It kinda surprised me and I'm curious about what others think about this book and Murakami, btw she said Murakami is pretty famous in Europe is that true?
At this time murakami is possibly one of the most renowned modern fiction authors around the globe. I would think he is known pretty much everywhere, at least by people which are even a little bit interested in fiction. So this is definitely true
when I read his book I only can understand my way and not completely understand what did he think when he wrote this book and it really blow my mind
I'm also reading it on my kindle! about 45% now.
I need to buy it physically and make notes.
Usual sympton of reading some of Murakami's work tbh. I've read "The Elephant Vanishes" and it was a really neat experience, I'll never forget some of the stories he wrote, they're too bizarre/astounding 💀
do somebody has a list of good cs books?
learning cs via books or via websites what do u think? or both, i think both is a good solution
All the resources you need to give yourself a world class computer science education
personally, I think this is a good starting point for learning CS. if you just want to dive into coding, there are tons of resources (codeacademy, freecodecamp, crash courses on youtube, etc.) that you can get started on. imo, if you are genuinely serious about learning CS though, that website will provide enough content and material to build your own curriculum, and then you can apply that to your own coding.
i'd also recommend just picking a project, searching a tutorial on it, and coding along. you can learn a lot about how a language works, syntax, the possibilities of projects, etc. start small, and scale up - i remember trying to code my own game when i first started learning and got overwhelmed immediately. but with enough practice, it becomes really easy :)
niiice this seems extremly sustainable for me thanksiiii
i will have a look and tell u later if and how it helped
🫡🫡🫡 good luck on your journey !
🫡 🫡 🫡
hi guys, i have a question about reading - is it optimal to read a few books from different genres at the same time?
for examples reading 20 minutes of "atomic habits" and then 20 minutes of "dune"
everyone is different so try out different things^^ i'd say it will work since there's fiction and non-fiction, so you separate the two pretty easily
yeah ill try this
ive been doing this with millionaire fastlane & the hobbit ^ works well as i feel it uses different parts of ur brain
thats good:)
I think hes famous all over the world
Freecodecamp.org is good I guess
Youtube is the best method.
Do this : keep learning from a book. When you don't know a concept, watch a yt vid. It has best explanation.
Book recommendations:
- Introduction to Algorithms
- Clean code
- Design Patterns
Apart from this also search for
Learn C the hard way.
Replace 'C' here with your language preference like python, java, etc.
Also if you want to go down the networking path, you can look for networkchuck, heath adams(tcm), john Hammonds etc from youtube.
thanks yall!!!

I had these gold OG notes on C++ OOPs from the 80s-90s laying around in storage. Rats tore them up. I hate rats
I believe for instance if we are able to study different subjects at the same time so just like that can study 2 different books also at the same time
can anyone recommend me beginner book for cs books ıt would mean a lot.
what do you want to learn? or general cs
Honestly i don't know anything about cs but i want learn and improve myself for uni
what uni are you going to? or you wish to?
Well i live in Turkey so i want to ho to the Istanbul Technical Uni i want to see Cs section
In uni
I know that uni will teach me but i want to know in advence
well id suggest you to learn through a specific language cuz most languages only differ in syntax and a bit in the memory structure side of things, learning one will teach u how to think to code and stuff, a good beginner language is python
So i should work on pyhton
yes! there are loads of free courses on edx and youtube to choose from and I'd suggest a book, it's actually a 2 part book which was my text book for high school and it's really easy to understand from there
along with general fundamental concepts about computer science
cs50 on youtube is a great resource
no problem!
Has anyone read Karl Ove Knausgård my struggle? Is it worth the read???
i would also strongly recommend you start messing around on neocities building your own website alongside learning some python, those things together will give you some experience with looking at code
Thank you so much
there are definitely some websites on neocities too which give you guides to coding! if you go to https://districts.neocities.org/ and go to the silicon valley bit, there are a few links to sites there
Thnxs a lot i will check it out

Thank you bro
did anyone read song of ice and fire is it good (i didn't watch game of thrones) and is there any difference
I am reading it. The first 3 books are same as the plot of the webseries but as the books develop the plot gets different as the writers kinda messed up the last two seasons by not staying true to the original work. The books are a good read but the first book starts a bit slow
thx really appreciate it
Letters from a Stoic from Seneca, and also Meditations from Marcus Aurelius. I recommend Seneca first, it is a must read before any other books ab the subject :))

If you have Amazon prime you can acces from the startage: Prime -> Prime Reading. There are a lot of books you can get for free.
Also if you are into older books, you can get book collections of authors like Nietzsche or Darwin for a Euro (i live in Germany, idk how prices are in other countries),which is kinda neat 🙂
does some famous series have books like breaking bad / dexter / the walking dead etc...
david goggin’s book can’t hurt me helped me fortify my mental strength if that’s smth you’re interested in; not academically at all but a different approach you can apply to anything
thanks :)
Hello, does anyone have 48 laws of power spanish version?
How does this book club work?
Yo guys, I’ve found atomic habits with 2 different publishers in Amazon, do you know what are the differences ?
Important thing: Author should be James Clear
if you only consider getting a kindle as a e reader ur fov is very very limited, james has got a vid about e readers
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La5DZYOVRqg]
and at the beginning of the vid he recommends some budget ereaders, which are great great choices, those are:
• InkPalm 5
• Tencent Pocket 2
• Hisense A5
Ty mate
Wdym by fov
These ereaders are about the same price as the Kindle paperwhite
yeah but what you take in consideration in only kindle i assume
so thats not healthy lol cuz u depend on only one brand
Oh i see
Yeah u right i dunno much about ereaders
Does these ereaders support pdf and epub ?
hi im trying to pick a lens to read the book called "Vanishing Half" if anyone has ever read that PLEASE DM ME
also I have a question about literacy lenses. Is the idea of deciding to "become" or pretend to be someone else some kind of a lense? Like when the character in the book who is light-skinned black woman decided to leave everything behind (basiclaly her family) and decided to become "white" essentially.
yo does anyone know any good books for begginers in buddhism?
looking forward to reading this
yep
they run android, therefore you can just install an app to suit your needs
yes but not paid
I’m not sure what you’re looking for so I don’t know about archive.org. If you’re looking for recent books I don’t think you’ll find any there
Thanks a lot, i'll try it.
I can only use this with reading subscription or it has smth like open library?
Bcs this app doesn't support libs in my town
Hmmmm if it doesn’t support your town’s libraries then it isn’t an option
But I’ve heard of alternatives that your library may support, check their website and see if they have any info on apps you could use
Ok, i see. Thx, will try.
One tip: Always start your day by making your bed. This is to make you feel like you have done something and also it makes things look cleaner.

do you guys know a good platform to listen to audiobooks? audible only lets me listen to 1 a month outside of their originals 😠 any help would be great thank you 😸
any homicide books
check out your local library. in seattle, they're partnered with some company called overdrive and they rent out audiobooks. usually it's on a hold basis but there's so many books you can just search for whatever you want and is free then wait for the others while you read/listen to it
ooh i see! my local library has the same but they never rotate the books so i might ask them about it thank you for the idea!! :)
i buy them off apple store so idk
I fell in love with hope by Lance
I haven't read it yet but in my tbr
I heard about it a lot
- before u read it you can check out the writer's ig she talks about her novels to see if that's what ur looking for
hi everyone! came to ask abt some e reader recomendations or if anyone knows what's the ereader's name james uses??? i watched his vid on the hisense ereaders but could not find the sleek matte ereader he uses, don't know if they're the same. sorry im not very tech savvy with those types of products lolol
James uses E-Readers from ONYX BOOX. He use ONYX BOOX Nova Air 2, Leaf and some of Tabs or Note Air 2. You also can check list of all devices in Onyx Boox official store.
tysm!!!
👍
MoonReader has text to speech but it's all robot voices. On the plus side, you can do it for any book you have.
do u know what platform james uses?
or tbh should i just be reading the books myself lol
I thought it was moonreader+
He mentioned he uses moonreader+ but wanted to switch to KoReader because it is more powerful and open source
I personally can also recommend KoReader, it is pretty customizable. For me another big plus is the integration of calibre, where you can sync and connect to your calibre server
Thanks, I'll check out koreader. If it has a desktop app and syncs highlights its perfect for me.
iirc it only is supported on android and linux
Dang
.
Hey folks! Hope you are doing good. Make sure to check out #book-club-calendar for Book club updates.
Could someone please recommend practical books on physics and chemistry for a high school idiot....
you got this!! if you chunk it down you only have to read 15 pages a day
Even I am thinking of the same. Maybe let's extend it to 2 months, so that we can read at our own pace.
oh kekw . I was like: Uh, I have to finish my book before the first of May so I can read the book club's book of the month. Well, the book I finished to read our book for May was Sapiens - A Brief History of Humankind.
looll
let's extend it then
do u have a link for other languages than en

Guys, I am struggling to find a free version of "The Oxford Handbook of Job Loss and Job Search". This might be the best existing book on how to actually get a job and I can't find it anywhere. Does someone have this book or knows how to get it?
Well there is an app called unlimited ebooks , we can pretty much request any book there and they upload it within 24 hours {i have used it for several novels and self help books myself}
i just requested the book {i am not 100% sure about them uploading this one tho} if they do upload it ill let you know
Thanks a lot man! It's nice to know that there is a person somewhere in the world who likes to help people :)
most welcome haha

does anyone have pdf for

Hello, guys what are your opinions on 12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson?
Reading a brief summary will be good
@trail quartzDid you find the book?

can someone find a PDF of this book- the girl who speaks bear?
I must say Harari has a unique way to convey powerful arguments when he speaks of "Universal narratives" and "Shared ideas", but I can't help but to feel it lacks scientific vigour. It's almost as if he's using cunning, yet, unexplained terminology, y'all feel the same?
does anyone has an pirating website for audiobooks?
i couldnt find it with the sources given but thank u anyway!
I very much agree. And of course it can't be a very accurate retelling all of history in a few pages but that doesn't hinder you from making more scientific arguments instead of pushing your own opinion. For example that the agricultural revolution was the biggest mistake ever made. I very much disklike how the author keeps repeating this. By now I think I should start a count on how many times this is mentioned in the book.
I also don't know how to explain this but the writing style reminds me of self-help books. Does anyone also feel like that?

anyone have a good website to track all the books you read
Goodreads
I have reasons to believe it may be due to the usage of a mix between "informal" speech, a sort of "anecdotical experience" and some scientific vocabulary mixed all over. It does bring some nice starting points to interesting topics, but it lacks that scientific rigour that some other books actually have
how do you find pdfs of books online?
hey guys
how does james track his books on goodreads
i cant find one tutorial on how to do that on yt
Idk about how he does it but I just do it manually
urgh manually, sounds... a bit like nothing i would consider doing, but tu anyway
It’s not that bad lol
has anyone read the book psycho-cybernetics? I don't know why, but I find the book difficult to comprehend
I've only read the first two chapters till now, and there are concepts like creative mechanism and servo-mechanism which are going above my head
actually when im reading 20 Pages every Evening and i have to update these 20 Pages always, every Evening sounds like a terrible waste of time, when i instaed could make it automatically with an external technique, which i yet dont know about
same with me, i stopped reading in the first 20 Pages because the autor just pupmshots random words he came up with himself and expect the reader to just continue and dont to worry about...
you don't need to upload every evening though, just throw a bookmark there and keep going until you want/ have time to upload
and let's be really honest, it doesn't take that much time ^^
Eh I just update it when I finish a book
Oh ok, i think all of u misunderstood me because i meant page tracking... so that when i come across the next page it automatically updates it on goodreads.
⬆️
cause james is reading 3 books at the same time, i dont really believe that he is page treacking each one manually, and would not consider that either. That was the point, im really sorry i didnt make that point clear enough to understand, i apologize
for this case it would take long, very very long
why would you want to track page by page though?
maybe some people could do that with e-readers ? Or a pdf ?
yeah if u have a kindle u could do that easily bc then u can connect the api trough goodreads, but i dont have a kindle i only have good ereaders lol
then be like the rest of the mere mortals and track your pages manually 😄
bro i dont wanna do that fr fr, i it doesnt work i just update my books at the end. Page Tracking would only be a fun thing to do ... if james know how to do that, i thought others would know too, but...
micro-tracking has a limit in terms of usefulness
im not talking about usefullness im only talking about fun g
its like ur friends knowing at which page you are, if they know the book to they also would know at wich part of the book u are
mmh
or its like u watching a series on netflix and others could look up wehere u at atm and could now if they can spoil u or not
or many other cases but everything jus for fun
nothing special
you could just say where you're at in the book ^^ anyways, enjoy the reading ehe
What are you reading atm?
im reading haruki murakami - hard boiled wonderland
yeah i just could say it...
i also could say them i looked good yesterday evening, or i quickly post an update on instagram. I mean isnt this called evolutionary progress?
not that i post updates on instagram on how i look in the evenings but take it as an example
ah so it's between what you want to talk about vs what you want to show
you're sharing anyways, but i'm not sure you have good conversations on instagram
yeah its showing off, like i wanna say look how fucking cool i am, reading fast as fuck boiiiiii
LMAO
nah i fucking hate instagram, it was an bad example
ye ye but i think i understood
Goodreads stopped giving out keys for their API https://www.goodreads.com/api

Could someone recommend some biology books for an idiot who knows nothing on biology
reading 50 pages everyday lool
One message removed from a suspended account.
hi guys does anyone know what james goodread is called?
go to #book-recommendations
it's there
No goals really I just wanna know stuff like human eye works or how brain works or really how anything even exists and works tnx for the recommendation btw
Has the next book for the book club been chosen yet?
Nope. It will be announced this sunday.
gotcha
Anyone read "The Chain"?
Oh hi!! I read it some months ago if we are talking about the same book, the thriller one by Adrian McKnity?
I started reading "no longer human" and then suddenly stopped, its the first time I stopped a book because I'm scared that I'm not intelligent enough to understand it.
Why ? Is it too abstract ? Is the vocabulary too advanced ? Is it too challenging? Or else ?
It’s not too abstract
Not to be rude but it’s fairly straight forward
It’s pretty bleak
Could be challenging because it's very introspective and psychological, so it demands reflection and contemplation. Most of Dazai's writings reflect his mental health issues as well as personal struggles which can be difficult to interpret.
Fun fact (you might know this but still): Osamu Dazai and his lover committed double suicide shortly after "No Longer Human" was published.
Not exactly a "fun fact"
A "sad fact " *
For me , challenging books are the best, they help u think more critically & it feels like u're actually interacting with the author not just reading some words on a paper & flipping pages .
That is a very interesting perspective
You might enjoy works from the renowned Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky, which, again, you might already be familiar with.
Yeaaah Tolsoy as well & even Khalil Jebrane
His book MADMAN is definitely from this kind
ooh, I'm not familiar. I shall look them up!
Yep u def should
Just to make it clear , I read the Arabic ver of it
So I am not quite sure if the eng one would be the same
At first u might find a bit confusing & strange but it contains the perspective of a madman on a bunch of stuff
it*
Interesting. I'll keep that in mind, although I believe the translation won't significantly affect the book's ability to convey its intended perspective.
Right but u never know hh
That's true lol
hey guys which book tracker do you all use?
BOOKMORY is a good one !
Goodreads, it is one of the largest and most wellknown platforms for book lovers. It allows u to track ur reading, rate and review books, create reading lists, and connect with other readers.
LibraryThing, its another popular book tracking and cataloging platform. u can organize ur personal libraries, write reviews, and join discussion groups.
BookBuddy is a mobile app available for iOS devices that lets u organize ur book collections, track reading progress, and scan ISBNs to quickly add books to ur library.
Bookly is a reading tracker app that lets u set reading goals, track reading time, and get insights into ur reading habits.
Reading List is a straightforward app for tracking books you've read or want to read, available for Android devices.
i might just be over analysing it then
What's the best work of murakami according to you .
I haven't read anything by Murakami yet. Which one do you recommend?
One of his most widely praised works is Norwegian Wood. This novel explores themes of love, loss, and youth in a melancholic and introspective manner. Another highly regarded novel is Kafka on the Shore, which combines elements of magical realism and surrealism with a captivating narrative.
Some other popular and critically acclaimed works by Murakami include 1Q84, The WindUp Bird Chronicle, and Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage.
Btw guys , if anyone of u have read Secret History , if u don't mind , give me ur opinion about it
It's all about these college students in Vermont, and man, it gets mysterious and dark real fast. The writing style sucks you right in, and you can't help but get wrapped up in the twisted plot and the messed up choices these characters make. It's a total psychological thriller with a bunch of complex characters you can't help but get invested in. If you're into dark and thoughtprovoking stuff, you gotta check it out
Does it contain any toxic ideologies?
kafka on the shore
hmm kinda?? i mean some readers interpret certain aspects of the story as reflecting toxic ideologies or attitudes
Cuz i am still a teen so i gotta control what i read yk
Just read norwegian woods recently and it was really good. Must try 🙂
Thanks bro
Thank u sm !!
Thanks, I'll read it!
being mindful of what you read is a wise approach esp as a teen. The Secret History does dive into some heavy stuff with complex characters and mature themes, so it might be worth checking if you're cool with that kind of content right now. If you're unsure about a book, maybe skim some reviews or summaries to see if it matches your comfort level. There are tons of books out there, so you'll definitely find ones that vibe better with where you're at
Definitely!! Thanks a lot 🍀
..control?
Yep , I mean not read any book I lay an eye on , instead be aware of what I am reading & not let it influence my core & solid beliefs .
Probably Sputnik sweetheart, out of all the murakami books it's the one I keep revisiting the most
Some books can only be borrowed (it’s still free if you have an account) if the person who uploaded it only set it to that, but if not, the download links should be after the reviews of the book! This is what it would look like on mobile
Lib.gen is a pretty solid choice too tbh
Someone here mentioned Anna’s archive, I also use this to, there are links to lib gen included
Nice
I know this is a very silly questions, but I was just curious
I have seen many youtubers bookmark their whole book they are reading
Why do they do that exactly? They bookmark the lines which they think are very good/important or something?
it's not a silly question! You're right. When YouTubers or readers bookmark their books, they're basically marking specific lines, passages, or ideas that they find particularly meaningful, or significant in some way. It's like capturing the moments or key takeaways as they read. By doing this, they can easily go back to those sections later for reference, discussion, or even to include in their videos as they share their thoughts and insights with their audience. It's a great way to engage with the material on a deeper level and make it easier to share their favorite parts with their viewers or followers
Ahh, makes sense!! Thank you
I tried it out and I like the site
It's pretty cool since it has both, fiction and non-fiction
I'm currently reading why men love bit*hes, yes I know but it making me look at social media dating with an better eye
does anyone has pdf ver of this book?
I have the 2019 version

does anyone have the pdf for batman arkham asylum: a serious house on a serious earth?
Does anyone know about how to get the books on the e-reader James recommended? (the book leaf 2). Ive heard he uses tachiyomi but is that only for manga? And is it free? And if it's only for manga what should I use to get other books like deep work, etc.
hi! does anyone have + wants to share the book by jun yuh the guide to academic success?
thank you so much! gl w your studies^_^
Very excited for this
fr?
Gud book ig
i love dostoyevsky 🙂 i also recommend notes from the underground
Yess definitely, I love how he gives us views about human nature and how complicated humans are and he can express this so exquisitely
His works are masterpieces
definitely like how interestingly ignorant the main character is, and how people with inferiority complexes function imo. his perspective is always amusing
What's this month's book of the month?
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
I think that was for the month of August, isn't it?
@true elm Can you please confirm?
Hey chat, have any of you read "A little life" ?
Yes. It was for August. Unfortunately, due to low interaction, book club is put on hold.
That's sad
ye it is
summer is usually not the best time cause alot of shcool/unis close and people are less on discord
Do anyone of you've the latest Elon musk biography?

As far as I know they don't sell books on goodreads. It's just a site for people to log in their books, review them, and talk about them.
btw ur pfp is super nostalgic.i used to play that game for hours
ikr
but I had to play the game much later because I didn't know english back then ;((
Opinions of Book Of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi?
It's really good but you have to read it slowly and meditate on the chapters as some things are meant to be taken literally while others are metaphorical. Kinda like the Art of War but for swordsmen
Personally i like to think of the parts of the book where he talks about fighting tactics as tactics i can use in my day to day for productivity and fighting distractions
Like when Musashi says "Slashing is nothing more than touching the enemy" i think of it as "Doing something big is nothing more than starting the process"
yeah I think a big part of his philosophy is to use everything you learn to follow the Way; whether that's efficiently using a sword or a paint brush
anyone have thoughts on the book by Dale Carnegie: How to win friends and influence people. I feel it's a great book overall, but some of the ideas and concepts are outdated.
Art of Manliness podcast interviewed somebody who did an updated version, I think.
Pretty recently (a few weeks or months ago) as well, if I recall correctly.
Thanks, will definitely check it out.
can someone help me. i don’t understand why the book says one study has real and practical power and the other is chimerical, but still the best choice would be the one that is chimerical?
is it because it’d be better for a 13 years old boy with a broad imagination to read a chimerical book?
by the way this is Frankenstein
you need to read below to fully grasp what he meant by that, if he stuck to what was scientifically "real and practical", he probably wouldn't have done the experiment (aka the monster/ the creature). "Chimerical" is also a very fine adjective since chimere in mythology were creatures made of several part of different beasts; which is a nice echo to the various body parts Dr Frankenstein assembled to make his creature.
this is excellent, thank you
np np, literature potato here to help ^^
ooh i loved frankenstein its so good
reading mans search for meaning from victor frankl
Please, take notes and share what your thoughts are.
I can't believe you have the profile of the legendary Solid Snake!
I pre-ordered the release coming on Oct. 24. Only 2 more weeks!
Reading Atomic Habits right now and it might end up being my favorite book, if not in my top 3.
Book is dense full of good info.
Holy smokes.
I was just skimming through the book and have to keep stopping to let some info settle/sink in.
I hope you have fun!
Heya. I cleaned up the survey responses and put up the books suggested by the members in #book-club-calendar.
Be careful when saying, "drop your knicks" to a British person.
It has a different meaning.
I wrote nick not knicks. And as I asked if anyone wants to be friends on gr, drop your nicks allude to writing down your nicknames
@true elm sorry for the ping but for the book-club-calendar, is it really "the myth of Syphilis" or more "the myth of Sisyphus" 😄 cause your autocorrect might have induced that mistake^^
Changed and thanks.!
It wasn't autocorrect though. I put the list directly from the survey. Alas, the intended submitter must have made the mistake.
Idk if I can share this here, but this is from a book called Arabian Love Poems by Nizar Kabbani
I also don't know if you can share that here but I'm glad you did
Sometimes school feels like a syphilisian effort.
are u sure that it’s like syphilisian effort?
one must imagine sisyphus happy
Can somebody share me link / pdf of The subtle art of not giving a fuck ?
Has anybody read Ulysses
Recently bought mistborn series book 1, gonna enjoy the journey

I think u just type name of your book in youtube + audiobook, its just a lot of audio version out there
For some exclusive version of audiobooks, I didn't see any free of it
a good app for those that i reccommend is called "Libby"
thank u guys 🙏
I want to get into reading more physical books but I've been falling out of love with podcasts so I think it's my time to take to the audiobooks
If you guys have any books like these:
Pls dm
the almanack of naval ravikant
surrounded by idiots
meditations
meditations is one that's farther down, I have the physical edition doe so I'm gonna read that soon
navals I want to read bad though
I need to build my reading habit first though
I read atomic habits maybe a year ago now, and so I need to implement that structure for reading
oh actually another thing is that my reading comprehension is pretty poor for books, any tips?
well that's a good way to start , that was the first not novel book i ve read
i would say just see videos that explain that book
maybe in the language that u are native at
most of those books are pretty good
just go for it
I'm native in English yo 💀
I'm just kind of a poor reader rn
I'm hoping it'll come with time though, but videos on the book is a good idea
maybe stop using social media for a while
and see if that's the reason
perhaps ur attention span and focusing capability is the problem

Maybe, I havent been on social media for prolly around 10 or so months now, I removed it from my phone so the only way to really use it is my laptop, which I just don't do bc it's a hassle
great job
a lil tip as well ; try to find friends who read too
it will be even more fun
then that's a you vs you journey my friend
i forgot THE 5 RINGS

Yeah it's notion
I'm tryna get into a terminal organizational strategy but for now my life resides in notion
Send brotha 🙏
Ohh
u sure bro

Hey, anyone has the link of " Can't Hurt Me " for free !
I have that book but haven't read yet
Sorry man, I ment " can't hurt me ,"
i liked essentialism (greg mckeown) & start with why (simon sinek) !!
also, i know you already went over this, but i absolutely cannot recommend meditations enough
the most recent gregory hays' translation (i think it's the most recent one?) is organized so that it's to read than earlier translations
im not saying that you do this, but if you do tend to skip over the introductions in books, i recommend you don't do that for meditations
it provides a lot of context and i honestly wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if started reading the actual content off the rip
if you do end up liking meditations, i also recommend letters (alt. letters from a stoic, seneca)
i'm currently reading letters and i really dig it !!
also, just so you know im not completely talking out of my ass: i've read outliers (gladwell), start with why (sinek), atomic habits (clear), deep work (newport), think again (grant), the talent code (coyle), essentialism (mckeown), and those older pieces of literature i just mentioned. i started 12 rules & can't hurt me but dropped them
the reason why i haven't read that much is because i ended up totally immersing myself in meditations for, like, 9 months. i finished it a few days ago
Hello, um is kindle unlimited worth it?
time to pick up 12 rules and cant hurt me again
depends on how much you read and what you read
but usually, yes
you usually can get a free trial for like 3 months when first signing up. then from that you can see if it’s worth it or not for you
go for it !!
You get a month for free then you pay per month
Honestly before buying unlimited I was searching for a way to download free e books but the pdfs and font were blur whenever I opened them with kindle, but the good thing is instead of paying for netlfix every month, kindle is better
Okay 👍
oh I was able to get it for free for 3 months
Ohh
kindle unlimited is pretty good if you like to read for fun or for learning other than school
but for school books, I'd recommend actual pdfs
and for that I think an iPad or similar would be better
I'm using a kindle right now to read a novel
but if I were going to study I'd prefer to use my Samsung
I mean shit if bro wants to library the physical one too that works for me
hi, I can't speak English, so I'm writing through a translator. can you tell me James' favorite books I really want to read them
go on this vid , how i study 12h per day , u will see him favorite books in description
understood, thanks for helping
no probleme bro
Has anyone read 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene?
do you guys think its weird if you read self help
It is not.
It's better to read than not to
yeah, great book if you can apply it, but I feel that someone could genuinely also abuse the concepts and laws taught in the book
so true!
there s a lot to learn from any corner of knowledge
Ohhk
I dont think you should
Most of the time they are empty words. Sure it works for the authors, but everyone is different.
I am not saying all of them are useless tho. Just not worth my time.
Kubernetes in Action in epub is so nice.
yeah i think we all have different perceptions soo... but sometimes we need some reassurance
which ones your fav
ikr
Do u guys listen music while reading? Any specific genre?
I honestly can't read at all with music, I mean I can read but I won't think about what I've read or remember it.
In the morning, I often listen to music with my DAP for about 15 minutes, drink coffee. Then put those things away and start reading. I really cant read while listening.
yup," cold winter night with vintage oldies playing in another room and it's snowing (blizzard snowstorm)" in youtube , honestly i dont prefer spotify playlist
u gotta revise over it
after reading it, revise over it the next day, and then 2 - 3 days after
usually works for me
That's really interesting, thanks for sharing !
Depending on what you're reading and not remembering there can be a lil different methods. BW gave you a good one, because the base of remembering is repetition.
My method is the following.
Writing in the book, and not just highlighting, but notes on the text which will turn the pages into a conversation between the author and I. The most crucial pieces of info, the good points that click with my mind and the authors main points I will write by HAND on a separate notebook.
This alone generally gets it in my head, otherwise repetition in different forms.
I have Models if you'd like it
It can be a good book. Just don't let it become your whole personality and worship it, take some of the 'laws' and rhetoric with a grain of salt.
It's not weird, although sometimes reading fiction will serve you the points and philosophies in a more digestible way, while aslo being more enjoyable. Don't get too caught up 👍
Bro that is fucking good 👍
I'm gonna do that
e
Hope it serves you well
Does anyone use their phone as an ereader? I currently have an iphone 13 normal size and would like to maybe use it. Anyone had experience with that? And where did you find books
I used to read on my iPhone on the Apple Books app by downloading the epub from online. I didn’t really like reading on my phone but got used to it. but I got a kindle recently and I use that now and it’s loads better.
Yeah thats what my issue is too, its just like a bit small and weirdly formatted. A kindle is just so so damn expensive though
I might have an older kobo ereader laying around but im not sure if I can get books on that that I downloaded or have the epub files to
🥲 yeah a kindle is expensive. try out your other e reader then. if not then I guess get used to the phone. I didn’t realise how much I disliked reading on the phone until I got a kindle
hey, does someone has a pocketable e-reader which is cheap. I am from India and Kindles and kobo's cost a lot
Xiaomi Moaan Inkpalm 5. You can get it from AliExpress.
late but im reading it rn
very good
have u @muted pollen ?
yeah. it's abt how u use it.
its a great book in avoiding how to get manipulated too
if u think abt it that way
wow i like this
i just highlight anything i like lmao
but its different for everyone
lol no reason
it was just on the book app u use if u have apple
i just use different colours to highlight different points i like
u can experiment w highlighting ig and that may help u know what u want to highlight lol
yea hehe
Generally highlighting is the least useful method for memory retention. More efficient is using marginalia and handwriting the most important parts of the text. Ofc you can still use highlighting, but don't rely solely on it and don't over do it👍
I'll recommend two books on the subject that delve deeper. "How to read a book" by Mortimer Adler and "How to read and why" by Harold Bloom
I'm reading it rn, on Law 3 Concel your intentions.
I appreciate the stanczyk
Niceee
got: make it stick - anyone else read it?
Personally, i try to highlight words or clauses which hold value and meaning
ie : his words hold Power
The words that stand out are "words" and "power" so i highlight them
Same thing for ideas
For colors, be free, use colors which symbolize the Things which u want to highlight
for example , for Highlighting the Word " LOVE" u can use Pink, while for "POWER" u can use Red...
Ofc!!
Planning to get Niecthze
Try beyond good and evil by nietzsche
It's really cheap on amazon
Ah, I can't order it on amazon, I'm in Greece
I'll go to a mall with my school in a bit, so, I'll look for it there
Thanks
les go it's on punlic
thanks mate
Before you read 'beyond good and evil' or the popular 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra' I'd recommend "Unfashionable Observations" and "On the Genealogy of Morals".
Rip

i use an old android phone as my music player but it would be nice to get something with better sound and smaller
did anyone else try and read the book "Digital Minimalism" and found the book boring, as it just elaborated on stuff you already knew? I'm only 3 chapters in and while this knowledge is interesting. He hasn't covered anything that I didn't know prior to going into the book from Dopamine Detox resources and etc.
Its shanling m1s
Agreed. It was very a boring read for me. Nothing special.
Its shanling m1s
thank you
i bought this conrain mph3 with a digital screen, it works really well. i know a website to take soundcloud links to then download them into files.
I haven't read that book in particular. However when when you encounter a boring book, instead of forcing yourself to get through it only to stop reading it. Use the table of contents, at the start, to see which chapters might be intresting for you. So do that and read the very last chapter, most authors can't stop themselves to summarize their book with elegant words at the end. Most books will have something useful to digest, but not all are meant to be read from start to finish👍
About "Digital Minimalism", the book is only valuable to read when its readers know nothing about digital detox. It would be a great gift for your social media addicted friends.
To people who are seeking digital minimalism, there are basically nothing new as you can already find a lot of tutorials on the internet: "uninstall fb, instagram, only use those sites on computer", etc...
My point is if you are seeking methods to get rid of social media , chances are you already know about these things by looking up on the internet....
Basically the problem of those selfhelp books.
I appreciate the advice. Will give it one last shot before I just gift the book to someone else.
I am ordering a dumbphone but just as an emergency as james uses. Other then that this book just isn't for me. I do find some of his use test cases to be pretty convincing towards the digital minimalist argument and will keep them in my back pocket. Other then that I think I wouldv'e learned the same knowledge from an alright TLDR reddit post on someones experience of a detox.
Go for it. Its a very universal advice as well. Hope it serves you well🫡
anyone got any views on the secret by rhonda byrne?
May I ask which dumbphone you are ordering?
I have been eyeing the qin f22 pro for a while
tcl flip 2: I’m just using it as sort of an emergency phone with Spotify for when I go to the gym. Only giving a few people it’s contact. Because of my job I’m on my computer all day and would like to give my full presence to the individuals I love. As well as I kind of enjoy just disappearing when given the opportunity to be fully disconnected and go rock climbing
how do you charge your gameboy? batteries or?
It has usb c port for charging
Its name is Miyoo mini plus btw
thanks!
i am having trouble charging my gameboy cause it mainly functions on batteries and a port i have no charger for sadly. your looks so damn cool, too.
guys have u ever read "A HISTORY OF MONEY AND BANKING
IN THE UNITED STATES:
THE COLONIAL ERA TO WORLD WAR II"
nope never heard of it
No, but I've heard it described as more of an opinion-piece than actual history. Have you read it?
I'm planning to read it but actually it's history it's the black side of history and how the centralized banks are the destroying the world
Are you referring to the book by Rothbard, Murray? And what do you mean by 'black side of history'?
yeah that one!
like how Hitler, Napoleon, Al kadafi and more ppl got killed
Not sure I follow you.
But in any case, get back if you do read it. As I said though, be mindful that its got a lot of opinions, as in far too many adverbs and adjectives for a 'history' book. Be very critical in your source evaluation wile reading.
yes for sure, I just got curious cuz it's banned
u read it right ?
