In A part you simply subtract 1000 each year until seventh year and it will be 4000 after 7th year. (and we know its always 1000 as two years are given in the question)

if you are not aware then depreciation means reduction in value of assets and accumulated depreciation means total reduction in value upto a specific period

In B part they are asking total depreciation upto seventh year which is 49000 (10000 + 9000 + 8000 + 7000 + 6000 + 5000 + 4000)

In C part they are asking value of the machinery after 7th year which is total depreciation upto that year subtracted from current cost i.e. 100000 - 49000 = 51000

I haven't done such questions in accounts as of now but according to my understanding of the subject, its 9/12 because they said "On Apr 1" and from Apr 1 till December its 9 months (9/12 will mean months after shares are issued divided by total). I may be wrong if your country doesnt consider jan till dec as a financial year.

it is, just like 1/1, 7/1 etc. denoting the timeline of things happening but 9/12 is what u r using to calculate as after issuing shares lets say, you dont count when its not issued rather when it was issued till the end of the year

4/1 is just representing when its issued and it has no significance in solving the question whatsoever as Apr 1 was mentioned above too.

you even got 12/12 above it as shares were O/S on Jan 1 and from jan till dec its 12 months thatswhy the 12/12.

I think you need to remove 13% first and then you have 87% left right? And then that 87% turns again into 100% and then you remove the 10% and then the 90% gets into the 100% again and then you can calculate the difference

Hi @quiet kernel , first of all I just wanted to say that I admire your efforts into helping your parents business, it is a very honorable thing to do.

So, technology in business won’t do anything by itself, it will always be a complement for something else (like a process automation, for example). With that being said, the fact that you created a website is marvelous but without a Marketing strategy application to share that website within your country it could end up in a very cool project not giving you much results, see what I mean? Bear that in mind when continuing the website project and with new ones you might create.

Now in regards to how you may help your parents even more, you could maybe analyze how their process work, for example, do they have a system that controls their stock or POs (payment orders)? If not, you could create that for them!! If they already have a system, maybe check if it really suits them or if there is something else they need (which the software doesn’t offer), don’t forget they are the ones that work there, so don’t be afraid to consult them if you feel like things could be more efficient with technology usage!

With a system in place, you can do so much stuff, like automations and integrations, etc. The idea of technology as an ally in a business is to reduce unnecessary manual labor, but not only that, you could help them by also creating smart/automated sheets that informs them of useful data for decision-making.

Automations are a HUGE deal in Business now, once set the process efficiency sky rockets! hahah
I recommend checking into that, some systems are able to integrate other softwares or APIs, so I suggest looking into that as well!

Capital budgeting is a completely different subject bc companies need to work around their cashflow and report financial statements every fiscal year. They invest in debt and equity securities which individual investors can't really do.

I don't know it is similar to most of countries but many of countries plan their budget ( annual financial statement ) the process you have mentioned but that too goes with much larger way. for project I think it depends on what project you are mentioning here. first up all you need to evaluate the things that you need for project that goes with planning cost management like getting cost of each of raw material as compare to various regions like certain commodity available in X region for X$'s , the transport cost. if project is online you will consider cost of software , broadband etc. afterwards you will scrutinize the cost for each commodity. For future expenses on project you will have to estimate the cost of each commodity according to current price fluctuations. after getting the cost of all commodities you want which is estimated. you will start to shape your budget. placing all things where it should be. and in last stage once you implement the budget means you start working on project you will have to see if everything goes with according to estimated expenditure or not that is controlling the cost.

You will need a good source of wood if you can get 1-2 guys collecting dead trees or a small ban saw and a planer then you can make your own bords

Then you can judt manage the books and do the wood working to save money or higher 1 or 2 people to make the product and market it online.
Just off the top of my head.

Making dining room sets will net you the most because it a larg order and you can change for the full set.

And when your not useing the shop have a membership that people can pay to have access to your equipment and you can do classes.

Don’t know too much of your background, so take my advice with a grain of salt. This is a quick take from a 2nd year Corporate Banking Analyst (specifically the structured debt space)

if you require a visa, it’s incredibly difficult to find work in finance unless you’re a phenomenal student or if you have deep connections.

There are a lot of career paths with a finance degree. Connections are most important imo because without connections you pretty much need to be a stellar student whom can get through interview screens with your credentials alone (good school + high gpa). School also matters as well as usually the better business programs are lined up into the “high finance” programs typically at a bulge bracket bank (popular, high paying fields with good exit opportunities to the buy side or other select fields in finance) -> IB, equity research, S&T, etc. If you're real exceptional and have a connection, you can even find a role at a hedge fund/PE.

Usually you'd find these junior high finance roles at large banks/elite boutiques are typically sell side roles. Most people want to end up on the buy side as in the Hedge Fund/Private Equity space. If you're real smart and have an engineering background quant route is also viable.

Corporate banking rely pretty heavily on connections from my experience - a lot of new analysts come from the current employees’ Alma mater.

There’s mid/lower tier programs (wealth management, Financial planning and analysis, etc.) but again requires connections or decent grades to be considered, but not as competitive and the interviews are not as difficult. Ofc the exit opportunities when you move laterally and the pay won’t be as great as the high finance fields.

My advice if you pursue a career in finance is to really network as much as you can, get a decent gpa to pass interview screens (3.5+), and just have a good grasp of finance fundamentals (financial statements, time value of money, etc.)

Listen to Warren Buffet, Seth Klarman, Bruce Greenwald, Mario Gabelli, Bill Ackman, etc.

It's essentially a long-term style of investing in which you buy companies with a strong balance sheet (good cash flow, strong net cash position, etc.), strong fundamentals, at a cheap price (emphasis on large margin of safety). You expect those companies to survive a for a long time, and would not be easily disrupted by start ups (check out Warren buffet talking about economic MOATs).

Concepts can be repetitive sometimes, but it's all about drilling down and mastering those seemingly simple concepts. I do think the principles and fundamental analysis (Calculating Earnings Power Value, Seth Klarman's Magic Formula application, etc.) is a nice tool kit to have. But best to stay opened minded and continue to learn. Value investing wouldn't necessarily work well with earlier stage companies that don't have positive free cash flow yet (small-mid sized tech companies is a great example). Best of luck.

Not sure how much specific advice I can give, but I have worked in the corporate world for a number of years. How easy this is will probably depend quite a lot on the individual companies you apply to. I have some colleagues who started in one of our factories, but eventually switched over to the business side and has built their career there. But that's because where I work, that sort of thing is encouraged.

Probably you'll either have to start that way, or find an assistant/admin role and try to grow from there. Exactly how you'll go about it probably depends on the companies where you live and what exactly you want to do. Corporate/business are quite wide terms.

Administrative Assistant or roles related to data entry could be good starting points that typically don't require much in terms of education or experience.

Office assistant could also be a good role

i'm writing this from an accounting standpoint, but i'm sure there are similar things that exist for finance and marketing:
i think a recruiting event is the most beneficial thing you could do, but you need to be seriously invested into making it happen for the first time

i don't know how they do it, but the accounting club at my institution runs frequent recruiting events inviting local and national firms, and b4

the events are a good opportunity for students to dress business casual and practice talking at formal events, making small talk, elevator pitches, etc.

if they make good impressions, they get their foot into the door at that firm

the benefit to firms is that they get to recruit competent local talent, so usually they want to attend too

try to get your teacher's support for it, particularly the teachers who worked in public who have attended recruiting events in the past to give tips on how to dress and behave
and your school's support, for a venue to host at and possibly budget

for informational events, you could see if you can get a recruiter from your area's CPA entity to run a presentation explaining how the CPA program works in your area

for me, my interest is in cars 🚘 and electronics. I started selling used cars about 3 years ago during my free time to make some extra money and also because I really love it and enjoy it. What I do is bid on cars at auto auctions, usually online and I needed membership for that. The day before the auction, I go check the car I’m interested in by myself, but I only pick certain types, mostly the ones with rear end damage or stolen cars that insurance companies are selling

like when someone’s car gets stolen, the insurance company usually pays them or gives them a new one. Then, if the stolen car is later found, the insurance company sell it at the auction and there I go and hunt for those kinds of cars

Lately, I’ve been focusing on Kia models because they became easier to steal after leaked video in social media about some security mistake in the kias system, like thousands of Kias got stolen by groups of teens just for fun, and then they’d leave the cars in the street later.

If you reaally want to start a serious learning path, there are good MOOCs out there for free. Bodie's Investments is also a great book when it comes to explaining investment products and strategies.

If you wish to know a bit more, I'd recommend taking MIT's Microeconomics (14.01) with John Gruber and Yale's Financial Markets (ECON252) with Bob Schiller.

If, on the contrary, you like looking as charts, swing-trading and all that stuff, the starting point is often Murphy's Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets. Although TA is a bit controversial in today's trading, it's certainly used

Hey there, artist here. I don't have experience shipping graphite pencil art but from what I know, you'll have to varnish it or spray fixative* because that medium is prone to smudging. Then cover the front with acid-free glassine/tissue paper or wax paper.
Rolling it up on tube is the cheapest way, but again there's greater risk of smudging with that.
Framing it would be ideal but that'll be heavier and more expensive. If there's glass, you won't have to varnish, though professionally it'd be ideal to use museum-grade glass which is non-glare. And of course, additional bubble wraps for glass.
Regardless of whether with glass or not, make sure to always give extra protection to the corners.

When I started learning business online, I thought I needed a lot of money or some big idea to succeed. But I found out that even with small steps like finding products that solve everyday problems you can actually create something that works.

One thing I learned is: don’t focus only on what looks nice or trendy. Focus on what people need. That mindset has helped me in ecom stores business and in other parts of life too.

Business is really about starting small, testing, and learning as you go. You don’t need everything figured out from day one just take that first step.

Hey! I'm a 12th grader and here are the things that worked for me:
I have a hard time studying business studies too but I first started with
[1) mindset] from "I cannot do this" to "who says I cannot do this?" Change in the mindset helped feel a lot better about myself and forced me to study.
I usually do well with practical subjects, so I used all the tricks with theory subjects too. [2) analysis] analyse what's being asked. For example I'm studying the topic financial market, "what all subtopics I'll be going through?" "How will this help me in real life" "what all places can I use this info"
Since I've worked on my mindset and analysed what and how, I'll [3) research] as much as possible. Going above and beyond for a topic helps you in getting a deeper understanding of the topic.
Last step, for exams purposes is [4) YAP] yeah you yeard it right. Yap. If you are a talkative person, yapping is something you commonly do. So go ahead, look at the paper, you know a topic, literally yap about that topic and write down whatever you think (obviously in a systematic manner)
This will not only help you in writing answers but also helps you in thinking systematically. Don't try it in the exam lmao, try it once at home. In your notebook. Learn a topic and explain that topic by yapping in the paper. Trust me it helps.
