This is the before

the proportions are off. the left eye's bigger than the right eye, the hand is rather odd too, and the shading.

face: always start with guidelines to keep track of where each part of the face goes. don't just jump straight into drawing the full thing.
hand: use references. always use references. no, it's not cheating. at some point you will intuitively pick up what a hand looks like and you will be able to draw hands from the top of your head.
shading: you should always consider where light source is relative to what you're drawing and base off shadows and highlights from there.
hair: it's generally much better and easier to draw 'clumps' of hair rather than individual strands and then add details to it much later.

altogether i would highly recommend it, as it helps you draw 3d forms in 2d space (like train your eyes).

It's hard to choose, they all fit but i will go with the first one and the third one

something that my teachers would always advise is to hold the pencil like a painter rather than a writer. there is more than one "correct" way to hold a pencil, so try different methods until you find one that sticks. the way you hold a pencil can drastically change how you draw your lines. (pic related)

Can confirm, that is the best way to go about holding a pencil, multiple grips. This my latest composition, used about 10 different grips for this bad boy

Usually its not a single one that should stick when drawing but more so different ones for different occasions

@hushed oyster the rips would make a sick tatoo :D. You can use a lil bit more of black pencil to create deepness on both, like between teeth on the skull.

The best way is to just start drawing or painting or whatever. And based on that you'll realize what you need to learn(as in how to improve that drawing), then look that up on youtube and try to fix those things in your sketch.
