Lost in the woods for over 6 months, I was confused and overwhelmed by the vastness of the unfamiliar territory. πͺ΅
I had no idea how I was going to find my way back. But then, suddenly, I remembered something important, that I had a book club to run - and I had to get back soon.
I felt a flutter of excitement as I realized I had a goal. I started walking, determined, and before I knew it, I had found my way back. π
Now I'm off to run the book club, with a survey link that needs to be filled out by all the members.
Who knows what secrets we'll discover in the answers (some juicy stuff, perhaps?). I can't wait to find out! π―
Survey links' here! β¬οΈ
https://forms.gle/JyzTxjUVKUu45fjJ7
p.s: Hope you liked the plot. Please fill out the form, so I can estimate what stuff we need to survive in the woo----I mean book clubs. :3
If you are new, welcome to the "Book Club". Do pitch in your suggestions in the form above. βοΈβοΈ
<@&891686274702909451>
UPDATE :
Based on the form, suggestions :
β Instead of weekly/daily read. Make it a monthly read, where we can accommodate slow readers too.
[p.s take votes from members for the book suggestions.]
β After end of every month i.e say every last Saturday of the month, keep a discussion open to everyone. Where anyone can discuss their views/summary/thoughts on the monthly book, or suggestions on the book club.
Basically, a free to talk anything bookish discussion.
β Reading books based on themes/festivals/events. So that we cover a wide range of books. TLDR: theme-based variety books. [ p.s : Only self-help books sucks. Make it variety.!
]
β Accommodate various timezones : It has been pretty hard doing this, since it is worldwide and some of them won't be covered.
<@&891686274702909451>
UPDATE v2:
β The Book club monthly discussion will be held on the last Saturday of every month. Timings will be announced soon. π’
β A book will be put up for monthly reading, based on user votes.
β Theme-based books every month. π πΈ π π§οΈ
β Perhaps, a custom website for the book club? π
Make sure to fill out the below form. The form is to take inputs for the Book Of The Month for May 2023. ‡οΈ

UPDATE:
Since tomorrow is the last day of the month, the book of the month will be shared here. Stay tuned and happy reading.!
<@&891686274702909451>
Hey there fans of the printed page,
I am excited to announce that the book of the month is** "Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind"** by Yuval Noah Harari. This book takes readers on a journey through the history of humankind, from the emergence of Homo sapiens in Africa to the present day. Harari weaves together science, history, and philosophy to offer a thought-provoking perspective on our species' past, present, and future.
In "Sapiens," Harari challenges many commonly held beliefs about human history and offers fresh insights into our place in the world. Whether you're a history buff or just looking for a fascinating read, this book is sure to spark lively discussion and deep reflection.
Happy reading, and I look forward to discussing "Sapiens" with all of you soon!
Where do I find the book? :surprisegif:
<@&891686274702909451>
Since the book is pretty long, the duration for the "book of the month" is extended to 2 months until the end of June to accommodate slow readers.
The timings/date for the group discussion of the book will be posted in mid of June here, after filtering the inputs received in the survey. Happy reading till then.!

Book of 2 months : The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
Summary : "The Book Thief" is a captivating historical fiction novel set in Nazi Germany during World War II. Narrated by Death, it follows Liesel Meminger, a young girl who discovers the power of words and literature as she steals books to cope with the horrors of war. Through her journey, Liesel forms unlikely friendships, learns to navigate a world filled with secrets, and ultimately finds solace and redemption through the written word.
Happy reading, and see ya'll soon!
Where do I find the book?
- https://www.amazon.com/Book-Thief-Readers-Circle/dp/0375842209 (or Kindle)
- A local library or Bookshop.
NOTE : Since the book is pretty long, the duration for the "book of the month" is extended to 2 months until the end of August to accommodate slow readers.
<@&891686274702909451>
Also, a VC named Enchanted Library has been created where we can read together and discuss books in general. π
The Book Thief - Disucssion
<@&891686274702909451>
Heya folks.! Hope you are doing well and in good health.
Instead of the monthly discussion where we have a discussion in the VC at the end of the month, we are shifting it to text-based discussion(threads).
So, how does this work? (ββ‘βΎ)
-> Every month, a thread will be created for the particular book, where we can discuss about the book on-the-go. (instead of waiting a whole month)
-> We can share snippets, quotes and other interesting stuff we found in the book.
-> At the end of the month, we can share summary of the book, the parts we like and the ones we disliked.
p.s: A thread for the book "The Book Thief" discussion is created above for the month. Happy reading. ^_^
[TLDR: Monthly discussion shifted to threads.]
Due to extremely low interaction, book club put on hold.
Why the sudden change of heart to threads? (βαβ)
β€ We had to usually wait for the whole month to end, and then discuss about the book. Apparently, this sucks -_- . Now, we can have a continuous on-the-go discussion about the Book.
β€ Some folks had issues with talking in the Voice Channel(VC). Alternatively, text-channels are much more convenient.
β€ There was a limit as to the number of people we could hold in a VC. The limit barrier is eliminated now with the help of threads.

=> If you missed earlier sessions held and are not sure what the author is reading.

The summary of the book on the blog will be completed within the next week.
In short, here's what to expect in further sessions : [This will be implemented from 12-06-2021]

[3] The duration of each session of the book club will be limited to 1 hour.

We will start from 4th paragraph "I trust ...." on page 49 in a couple of minutes.
We completed Case III. We will start from Case IV from the next session.
Apologies for not holding the book club sessions as of late. I am currently working on a university research project and it has taken up a lot of my time.
I am thinking of revamping the book club session as follows :
- Instead of reading full-length books from scratch, read short summaries of a book per session.
- More focus on self-help books instead of other genre books.
- Sharing of life stories and experiences by members. [Monthly once or twice. Working out possible solutions to implement this.]
- Shorter duration per session. [Around 25-40 minutes]
Do let me know if you have any other suggestions or ideas. Thank you. ^_^
P. S: We are having the first improvised session on 05th September, Sunday.
My sincere apologies, session scheduled to upcoming week whenever possible. I have a project review tomorrow so couldn't take the session today.
The book club is currently under maintainance and a bit of revamp. The session timings will be informed before hand being conducted.
<@&891686274702909451>
We are most likely, (though 100% not sure) having a session on 10th of October. It would be the first revamped session. The timings would probably be informed a day or two before the session takes place.
We would cover the following: :
-> A summary of a self-help genre based book. [Initial 25 min/Book name yet to be decided. Suggestions are welcome. Put them in #book-recommendations]
-> If possible, there would be an interesting talk by a speaker sharing his life experiences or a short story. [If the speaker is free and agrees to do so, or else someone can volunteer, or probably I will speak. I will tell a day or two day before if it happens. Make sure to attend this since this is 100% worth the time.]
-> The blog will be updated soon
[Find the blog link as the 1st message of this channel.]
p.s : The Discord event thing got fixed finally and you can click the bell icon there to be notified and a new book club role has been added in #roles.

We are introducing a new concept :-
Along with the summary of the whole book, we will have a discussion on these questions with relation to the book :
(1) What is the one simple thing you could do or be today that would be an expression of your ikigai?
(2)Would you include ikigai in your everyday lifestyle. Why?
With the help of these, we can relate to the book and how we can apply the same in our day-to-day lives. And moreover exchange ideas and our perspectives with each other.

<@&891686274702909451>
Outline of the Survey
Q1. Why aren't there more/different speakers for every session?
β Multiple posts had been earlier posted w.r.t volunteering by the members of the server. Only 2-3 responses were received and they had given the summary for a particular session.
Q2. Why don't you call James for the book club sessions!?
β James did come once and was the speaker for the book "In Order to Live". Also, he or anyone in general has a busy academic/personal life schedule, so it isn't feasible for the same person to attend every session.
Q3. Why not a separate server? Sometimes, I forget a book club exists here.!
β I have been here since the beginning of the server, when the server had less than 40-70 folks. I, as well as many of the folks here have lively memories with the server. The book club is a part of this server and would continue to be so till the very end.
Q4. Why don't you write a summary for every book that is read at the Book Club Session?
β I pretty much love the idea and had implemented the same in the form of a blog here : [#book-club-calendar message].
Since most of my time is engrossed in academics or projects, I haven't be able to commit time to write the summary for each and every book that is/was read during the book club sessions.
A bit of volunteerism would be much appreciated. If so, hit me up with a message.
Q5. Why not make a chat for when the book club podcast when it's live otherwise it might interfere with other chats?
β Thank you to the person who posted this. This is a pretty good idea. Will try to implement this in the form of thread. Many thanks.!
Q6. The book club sessions get boring at times. Why not hold fun games in b/w?
β Though it's an amazing idea, the implementation is quite difficult. Time allocation, type of activity selection, etc. is quite difficult. I am open for ideas, if you want to make this a reality.
