who wants to be my friend? I only speak Spanish :,v
hola
hola
tu madre = una puta
lo siento my spanish knowledge is limited lol
Hello, i want to work in Germany next year, but it’s a requirement to speak German pretty fluently. I already know a bit of German, but I want to get better, what has worked best for you guys?
Depends, do you have to write a lot in german?
Then i feel like the grammar is going to be very important
(more so then if you only have to speak
So If you are going to write a lot make sure you know the grammar very well.
Otherwise I'd reccommend knowing at least basic grammar and then just consume a ton of media, wich will widen your vocab, and introduce you to new sentece structures and grammar
@nimble swift
@nimble tinsel Thanks a lot for the answer! I need to be good at writing, but it's must important that i'm good at speaking. By consuming a ton of media, do you mean like; Netflix on german, german news etc? - Again thanks a lot for your answer 🙂
Yes I am speaking about german netflix, news, pretty much anything that you are intersted in
And with a job don't forget to know your stuff in German as well as there can be job-specific terms and things like that
Finding a place/person toe regularly type german with will probably also help
Best would be a chat of some kind
Because then, even if you don't write you can still read and learn new stuff
You might also be able to find a cheap online course of some sort
Babbel.com forexample is really good
It's like a better duolingo
@nimble swift
I'll help, DM me 🙂
Does anybody know some good English words to use in an essay?
wut that's kinda vague
do you n eed transition words or what specifically
also anyone know? ^
c
yeah, some transition words would be great
Do you study Spanish?
Es este, porque no habla sobre el turismo, habla sobre impuestos
Diría que es la última
3er parrafo habla sobre los impuestos, es el tema central del texto, xd
Me bugge3
estoy confudida 😭
Mas, Mira El último párrafo
esto es turismo, no?
Dice que no es tanto el dinero como a una cultura que visita mucho los cines
Dice que no es tanto el dinero como a una cultura que visita mucho los cines
esto es turismo, no?
Por lo que los intereses de la población no se basan solo en impuestos
Si no en su gusto por el cine
Ahora estoy dudando jaja, está entre la a y b
esto es turismo, no?
@edgy galleon
Es cultura
Cultura cinematográfica
Where do you study Spanish?
Primero habla sobre el cine, luego sobre los impuestos del cine, y al ultimo sobre el turismo sobre el cine (incluida la poblacion)
Es la b entonces, xd @umbral zodiac
Si la imagen dice que la b es incorrecta xd
cri im doin spanish in school
sometimes i google translate and still dont know the answer
hmm
It's just about practice
But, there are better tools than Translator for learning Spanish xd
voy a preguntarle a mi profesora dx
like duolingo>?
i feel like i barely know spanish still
my spanish course this year sucks
With flashcards
Specially for vocabulary
Then, learning grammar will be like a piece of cake
grammar's the hardest part x_x
cuz i can understand paragraphs usually but i dont construct them regularly
if i had to speak spanish my speaking would be catastrophic
Yeah
Spanish has a lot more time and verb tenses than English
But there's no doubt it's about practice
Try songs in Spanish then xdd
There are some pretty good songs from Peruvian culture
any song recommendations?
The ones from "Río" and "Arena Hash"
Let me check if I can share some

I'm German. What's the matter?
i dont understand why sometimes its junger mann and other times its eines jungen mannes or sumn like that
when to use which suffix
watch Beret's songs
a specific genre to recommend?
so basically it´s not that easy for me either, because I go after hearing, but it depends on which "Fall" you are using. There are four of these in German, and the easiest way to learn them is just to recite them a lot of times. After some time you get the hang of it. "junger Mann" is the "1. Fall" or sometimes called "Nominativ" and it would go on with "eines jungen Mannes" "einem jungen Mann" und "einen jungen Mann". When to use them is a bit tricky, but in a sentence you can decide on which question fits the best. The "1.Fall" is used when asked who is doing it in a sentence, the "2.Fall" (eines jungen Mannes) is used to express that the noun in question posesses something as in. "Die Hand eines jungen Mannes" (The hand of a young man). "einem jungen Mann" and "einen jungen Mann" are usually used as the objects in a sentence and are hard to tell apart. I generally decide by replacing it with the words "mir" or "mich" and then look which sounds more plausibel. So yeah it is a mess.
oh i love it thank u so much, helps a lot🥲
np. Always happy to help people trying to learn my language
I see. Did you already learn about the four grammatical cases nominative
accusative, dative and genitive? The two examples you mentioned differ in their grammatical cases. The term “ein junger Mann” is in the nominative case, because we can ask for it with the question word "Wer?" (Who?). The term “eines jungen Mannes” is in the genitive case, since we can pose the question "Wessen?" (Whose?).
Two examples:
1.) Ein junger Mann liest ein Buch im Park. Wer liest ein Buch im Park? Ein junger Mann.
2.) Das Leben eines jungen Mannes ist sorgenfrei. Wessen Leben ist sorgenfrei? Das Leben eines jungen Mannes.

Esra hi
I have to write an argumentation in french and it would be helpful to have some words or phrases which i could use for any topic
Something like : However, in other word, in fact...?
Hi semih 🙋♀️
Yeah !
There are a lot that you can use :)
However = "Cependant" ou "Néanmoins" (same meaning).
Dans un premier temps... et en second temps ( a nice one to introduce two idea of your thinking).
Indeed = En effet
In conclusion = En conclusion
Even if = Même si
On the one hand... On the other hand = D'une part... D'autre part.
Thanks that helps me! 🙂
No problem, you can ask if you need more :)

Hey
I need help with direct and indirect speech
Could anyone help?
Hello?
Anyone?
I need your help urgently
Noone?
- The mother said "May god bless you with sucess"
Ans: My mother prayed ___________________________________________ - My uncle said to my brother, "I have bought a cellphone for you"
Ans: My uncle told _________________________________________________ - Mala said to mini, "When will your brother come from Canada?"
Ans: Mala asked ___________________________________________________ - He said to me, "Will you lend me some money?"
Ans: He asked _________________________________________________ - My mother said, "Do not order junk food"
Ans: My mother ___________________________________________________
These are the questions
We must convert these sentences into reported speech
And I have no time because I tried and I got it all wrong
And idk the answer if anyone could help that would be amazing
I dunno the first one, that one's weird
2. my uncle told my brother that he bought a cellphone for him
3. Mala asked mini when her brother from Canada will come/Mala asked when Mini's brother will come from Canada
He asked me if I would lend him some Money
my mother forbade me from ordering junk food
These are my best guesses
Sounds like a weird assignment
@heavy oak
lol
- My mother prayed to God to bless me with success
Bruh this is english grammar
This is an hw for converting direct sentences to reported speech
Well, I never heard of reported speech before lol
Reported speech is indirect speech
Some piece of useless Knowledge
Yes you are right
I mean if my senteces are correct then i will agree lol
I can say that it's easy but if my sentences are wrong that woudln't make sense
There are a few grammatical mistakes in your answers, I feel
I can probably come up with better sentences lol
Lmao that's not the point
K
I am using your answers for my assignment
Then what is the point? i am genuinly curious
To convert those sentences into indirect forms
It's painful and easy at the same time
If it gets right then *peace
If it gets wrong then I would lose one mark and simply lose for the student of the week
We have that thing lol
These sentences are formulated in such an awkward way that I would never use them
oh lol
Should I help?
Its Indian english
I'll try my best though
Of course you can 🙂
Wait a min
Lol weird right
I am from india bt
*btw
Okay thanks
That 3rd sentence feels like it is missing the word home lol
That's probably an optional word but still
k np
- My uncle told my brother that he has bought a cellphone for him.
- Mala asked Mini when her brother would come from canada.
- He asked whether he would lend him some money.
- My mother commanded us to not order junk food.
I have enough practice of such amazing questions
Oh niceeeeeeee
I would argue that 5 is:
My mother told me not to order junkfood
First one
Cool cool
My mother prayed for me to be blessed with succes
The question states that "The mother prayed for him
.....
Or My mother prayed for me to god to bless me with succes
I mean yes but wtf
I will try getting the answer @nimble tinsel
Why all the useless info
क्योंकि यह सच्चाई है
hey guys, is anyone here learning portuguese?
Anyone speak Nepali? My gf is Nepali and I’m thinking about teaching myself the language. How difficult is it?
一年間ぐらい日本語を勉強してきましたがまだ日本語がよくできません。
I would put it like this, but there's multiple way to say the same thing. Don't forget 間 when you're talking about a period of time. But overall the sentence sound a bit "weird" because it is obvious that your japanese won't be great after only a year of leaning if you understand what I mean. Bon courage in your learning
Does anyone here can recommend or know about an app to learn Japanese?
obenkyo, jpro, kanji dictionary and anki (the latter for studying through repeition cards)
i just started learning japanese tho.. these apps are great for learning vocabulary and some kanjis
kanji* kisadjiadj
idk
japanese dungeon
how good busuu is?
i've never used that app before but from what i can see, it seems like it might have functions similar to this other app i use called HelloTalk, which i personally really like
Thanks for the info
no problem! :)
yeahh it's good to explore in case there are some you don't like as much
hello! what do you advise me to do to learn french it's so haaard
bilkul
James uses anki for japanese in his daily studies right?
hey could someone help me with some sample questions to see if they should be in imperfect or preterite?
Puedes bucear en el mar rojo
Puedes bucear en el mar rojo
i didn't realize srry
Hey yeah sure! 🙂 also for your DM
Imperfect: something that happened that may be a regularly happening ( ongoing and no end)
Preterite: something that happened in past maybe once or has an end to occurring (specific duration and has end)
example: for verb> cantar -to sing *
imperfect (if you sang a song on stage as a kid): (Yo) Cantaba
preterite (if you sing for broadway show): (Yo)* Cantó**
could i send you some examples that im confused on? 😅
sure dm 🙂
Thanks for the correction. :) But i didn't quite get the "because it is obvious that your japanese won't be great after only a year of leaning". Are you saying that im bad at japanese even after studying for a year?
One year for a language isn't that much tho, understandable if it isn't perfect. No need to feel attacked.
@winged scaffold No no that's not what I meant haha. Of course you made great progress, but when you say "being good at japanese" mean having a really great level. You still make mistakes that a japanese person would absolutly not make which mean that you're far from being good
Being good in a language is really hard it can take dozen of years
I think that you might feel attack because nowadays people easily say that they are "billingual" or "fluent" or you can see some sh*t like "how I became fluent in 7 languages in 3 years" on youtube but when you listen to them, they're far from being fluent...
But you made progress for sure, ask yourself "one year ago, would I have understand any of the kanji I'm writing now ? Would I have understand any sentence I'm writing in japanese today ?" Probably not, so you made progress
(sorry if I made any grammatical mistakes, english is not my mothertongue)
@rocky kindle thank you for your clarification. :) I really felt bad cuz i took your words the wrong way. But now i understand it. Thanks for the help! :D
👍 keep it up
Why "the help"? why is it used here "the" . I dont uderstand
You could say "thanks for the help" or "thanks for helping". Both work, but "thanks for help" is incorrect.
The formula is "thanks for the [noun]" or "thanks for [infinitive]"
@silk verge 👏
There is a new rule (rule number 5), please read it before using the help channels! #welcome-verification
you guys

Hi guys
By any chance, is there anyone who know/study Chinese?
hey i speak chinese lmk if there’s anything i can help you with!
hello anyone who speaks spanish can help me out please?
hey i need help with english. why is it called building if its already built? and same thing with ceiling. whats with english phonetics? how does bomb not rhyme with tomb. the words queue is just q followed by four silenced letters. is the s or the c silent in scent? why is english so weird?
as a native english speaker, i thought this was the norm until i started to learn other languages. It is just weird like that. It probably has to do with a lot of the other languages that influenced english in its formation, but other than that your guess is as good as mine. Either way hang in there. Just be sure to build your buildings with ceilings or else you will have to wait in a queue for an umbrella while it rains on the ceiling-less building in which you reign...sorry i couldn't help myself
i love you
that was beautiful 😪
yes
Hello, is there a native spanish speaker who could go through my spanish ensayo/trabajo?

Hi everyone ,i learn English and looking for someone to have speaking practice
Anyone here who speaks chinese looking to learn german/english?
Does anyone have tips on how to study for language reading and writing exams? (IGCSE French specific if possible)
@rare gust @half iron i can help you :) i speak English fluently
What's the most efficient way to learn russian? I find the pronunciation of slavic languages in general pretty difficult for me, so I've always put off trying to learn it, but I really want to learn it 😊
We've already talked and I'm going to bed,but thank you for responding!
Try to listen and imitate pronunciation of native speaker more, but don't mind it too much , because most of foreigners which learn Russian to fluently don't have right pronunciation and it's ok , grammar is more important here
Okay, that's a really good tip, thank you 😊
Do you have any recommendations for yt videos which're beginner friendly^^
If not that's totally fine :))
Plait-il ?
Still need help ?
I think a good to learn Russian if you have a basic knowledge is read our new on such portal as meduza and comments to them, because there you can find a lot of words that we use every day. On yt i can't recommend talk shows and some kind of film reviews ,i can send you channels in private message
That would be really great, thank you for the help 😁
I'm from germany. if anyone needs help, I'll be on this discord tomorrow from 13 to 14 o'Clock (CET).
yep
hi ! , somebody can help me with mandarin tomorrow? i need some advice
i can help
hi guys i need help with french .. im A1 in french ...i wanted to know when to use adjective demonstratif and possesif
it would mean a lot if u guys helped me
hey i am french i can maybe help you
hi i have doubt on when to use adjective demonstratif and possesif
im also quite confused with grammar term ''dont''
adjectif possesif is Mon Ma , Mes , tes ,ton , ta , son sa ses
for example when you say mon sac
okii
for the demonstrative its ces ce cette cet for example cet arbre
adjectif demostratif used for objects right??
i can be used for animated too like ce chien , cette
personne
ohh ok
ty
it helps
i am glad to help
How do you guys learn new words in other languages?
spaced repetition
anki ¯_(ツ)_/¯
basically, you use adjective possessif when you want to talk about something and focus on the fact that it is owned by someone (my/mon-ma-mes, your/ton-ta-tes or votre-vos, and so on...) whereas the adjective demonstrative is used when you want to point out something/show someone what you're talking about, (this-that/ce-cet-cette, these-those/ces)
Heeeyyy! I am about to take the CAE exam. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good studying book?
ohk ty it helps
i usually write out the common words and byheart it ..but throught movies, songs or even childrens stories ..you can easily learn
ik 4 languages fluently and rn i am learning french ..which is not really easy for me but i am trying
Ahh okay thank you many thanks!
i agree, learning common words by heart is the best way to progress fast and keep learning other words even faster
no problem
its good for longterm but it is time consuming ..but i would recommend if u want more effective learning
I'm from Germany and I want to improve my english. So if anyone speaks decent english and wants to learn german, maybe we can help each other.
same here maybe i could join if you find someone to help? teaching german together would be easier too :)
Also i have another question :) It's about spanish this time
^^Sure if he/she is fine with it, I can invite you too.
how do i know who is going where? ._. l
niceee :))
omg can i join?
are you german too?
sure hihi
@plush bear @empty tide alright so idk if we all are german or not since magpe6 hasn't answered yet... butttt if they arent and are willing to do this with only the three of us that would be great. If not then i'd say we should try to get at least 2 people who speak decent english coz i feel like i'd be pretty uncomfortable being taught a language by 3 people without anyone who also doesn't speak that language
i had the same thing in mind.
Oups sorry i had classes. I am romanian and i speak english rly well and i can kinda teach german too cuz i have a B1 level but i d actually rather be Taught:)
hahah don't worry so should we wait for more people to join or are we good to go? Also my english isn't that bad actually but i suck at speaking, i used to stutter a lot speaking english. So yeah I'd like to work on that even tho it's not as bad as it used to be
Anyone have a recommended resource for learning languages?
duolingo for starting out and nothing more. there is no one and done resource for learning a language, but there are resources you can use to build some beginner vocab
Thx
np

unfortunately, I will not be able to share any personal resources on this language, but I advise u to type in the Internet "resources for learning French" there are whole sites where people make useful collections consisting of listening, reading, etc.
you're making it sound like you're using some undercover FBI secret course LMAO
AHAH
I can send u a website in Russian(because im Russian) for learning French and u can try to translate it with the built-in translator,I think u will find something useful for yourself
Is there anyone who wants to help me with Spanish class? I could help with German. I'm like failing rn and I can't afford getting professional help or something like that. I'd be super thankful and like I said I would help with German :))
Thank you very much

noh part of the convo but the JLPT Tango N5 deck along with some duolingo and Tae Kim's grammar guide are always good. also remember to watch media in your target language and if you have problems with understand, download the Subadub Chrome extension! It allows you to copy and paste words you don't know in the language that you're studying so you can learn what they mean. very useful if you like making anki decks xd.
Just to add to it, I did Genki I and a book about 200 common kanji for the JPLT N5 and it worked wonders. I can at least read the Yotsubato manga relying on a dictionary only for the hardest words
To the people studying Japanese: My friend is studying Japanese at university and I asked her tips on self studying. She recommends the books Shinkanzen master N4 for grammar (when you can read the kana) and Minna no Nihongo.
is there anyone who speaks Dutch here and is willing to criticize a study i made?
Thank you
Omg! Thank u! and dont worry i'll make sure to dm you :))

the steepness of the initial learning curve is totally different. Building a vocab is hard in both Korean and English though.
and korean and Japanese are really similar
me learning japanese: bruh whats the difference between these characters they look all the same!! lol
i think it would be the second one: "much more" :)
Oh, I see
we japanese remember kanji by copy and paste by hand. it takes nearly a decade
Hey, I speak fluent spanish, and am learning bengali, lmk if anyone needs help (:

Guys i have this entrance totally based on reasoning and comprehension. Can someone give me tips(briefly) to improve the latter? That would be helpful!
Hey guys, I´m looking for good youtube channels to watch to learn italian. I´m not looking for specified learning channels, more like normal, funny channels that an italian would enjoy watching
I think I can help you, DM me
Do Japanese say: 七時二十分 or do the use kana and say しち時にじゅっ分 ? (7:20 o' clock)
Hello! Is there someone who could help me understand this?
Oh God, that is a complex text
It is hahah
what i usually see when i read news is either 19:20 or 19時20分 but idk if they use it differently in other areas like literature
I have a 2 hour class now and I can't answer right now, but if you still don't know by then, DM me and I will try to do my best to help you
I see, thanks
Vale, I already know what it is about but can I text you if I don't understand something? I'll try to do what I can on my own but the truth it that the text is too complex for my level of spanish and I could use some help.
Ofc I don't want to bother you
If you have things to do that's okay
Yeap!! No problem, that is why we are here, to help each other
Do you guys have any tips on learning second / third language?
Like I kind of forgot how to learn language properly since I got proficient enough in english just by soaking in the language, I have no idea how did I learn it
Best advice would be talk to other friends with the language you are trying to learn! You will get much better results if you have daily conversations with the language you want to learn!
you wrote the best advice you could ever give to someone who wants to learn a language. Soak in the language ! Watch movies in your target language (more or less subtitles in your language or in the one you want to learn depending on your level), listen to podcast, read children books, and most importantly in my opinion, find someone to speak with without caring too much if you are making mistakes (otherwise it might block you and prevent you from making any progress)
I moved to Romania a few years ago. I had 3hours of romanian classes per week. After a year I wasn't able to speak. Bearly nothing. The next year, I just force my self to always speak romanian outside of my apartement or the university. I talked to grandmas while doing the groceries and grandpas playing chess in the parc. My romanian level just increased like crazy
yo igual pudeo
🤔
first thing, it depends if you're the language you're trying to learn sounds like your native language/a language you can speak or not
I can help you too
Yeah it goes with how much you practice
but to be honest, as said previously, soaking into the language is a pretty useful tip, but you can't do it until you know the basic rules of grammar/some vocabulary, this you gotta learn it; you can try and go on duolinguo/busuu to do so, you also can find some lists of vocabulary for you to learn by heart on quizlet
While soaking in the language is indeed one of the best ways to learn a language it can be difficult to do with a language other then English (at least if we are talking about only doing it online, ofc it is easier in the country itself). I would suggest you start by getting a basic understanding of the grammar and to increase your word count, get a beginner book or look up some beginner YT videos, that might help you out.
It also depends on the language where you have to start, in certain languages it is better to start with word building and some it is better to start with grammar. Depending on the languages you already know it might be easier to start certain languages then others, i.e. if they are closely related.
the language itself would be swedish or German, mostly for work purposes, daily soak-in other than online is rather impossible
Yeah I have found that soak-in for German can be though, i guess swedish is even harder since it is a smaller country
Here's a list of (mostly) free resources for Japanese
https://boiling-boar-6dd.notion.site/Japanese-Resources-f1add395813542b39b2fa0d14f50afde
Oehh thanks
well, i'm also learning swedish at the moment and what i am planning on doing after i'm sure i know enough vocabulary and grammar is read a book i know in my native language (french) or in english since i can speak it fluently and then i'll try and read it in swedish; i prefer doing this rather than buying children books or idk, simply because i already kinda know what's happening so i can try and guess some things i don't understand rather than look them up
you could also try reading wikipedia pages in the language you want to learn (not for fun ofc, but when you use wikipedia, and if it's too hard to follow just switch back to your og language)
Try looking for books around A2/B1 level. There are quite a few books around that level that are actually interesting and you don't have to read the same book twice. The level of these books would be around highschool level
Thank you so much!! This is really useful!
I speak both Swedish and German so if you ever need help with pronunciation or want someone to just practice talking with hit me up!
Is anyone Chinese by any chance?😭
ayoooo i speak Swedish too!!!!!
Eyyy svensk gang

I think I can get some time tomorrow to help you
if you need help send me a dm
im in my final year of studying chinese at uni so may be able to help (also am half chinese but unfortunately this has no bearing on my language ability 😂 )
Omg fr? This is my first year and im struggling the most with writing the characters like how??
And the grammar isn’t easy as well
when it comes to remembering how to write characters, it's easier if you try and remember which radicals/component parts each character is made up of (rly useful for complex characters!), also stroke order seems kinda pointless initially but i find that a consistent stroke order makes it much easier to remember how to write characters as the muscle memory half does it for you
other than that, it's just practice - i have so many notebooks which are just the same characters written over and over until i remember
if there are any particular grammar points u find challenging just hmu! ill do my best to help :))
Yess you are so right!! Have you learned the most important radicals first and then the words? Or how did you start
And I surely will thank you so much! Ill just add you that’s easier i think
How can I improve my speaking skills? How canI sound more natural? I’m advanced in English and I can communicate with people very well but I feel like my language doesn’t flow effortlessly you know! And it really really frustrating
I think this applies to all languages you want to learn but you should get in touch with people who speak the language as much as possible. Speak English as much as possible and don't be afraid to make mistakes because that can stiffen you! Passive activities such as listening to music / podcast, watching films / series are also very helpful, because you then hear the sounds and unconsciously expand your vocabulary. That way you keep it fun to yourself because learning a language doesn't always have to be stupid and difficult!
I hope this helps a bit ; )
woaahh thank you! do you mind if i pin this for people to see in the future?
No you can do that for sure! : )
appreciate this g
yeah you can, no problem at all!
If anyone needs help with Italian dm me no problem 🍴
Is the help here free or like tutoring ?
ah cool
i want to offer English help to high schoolers eventually so I can practice tutoring but for free for everyone involved

Hi guys I have some problem with my English. Can you help me?
oh ok
Alguien quien me ayude con esto? En la teoría cognitivista (Cadierno & Lund, 2004: 139-140), la conceptualización se ha de entender como la forma en que el significado se procesa cognitivamente de manera que el hablante pueda construir un concepto a partir del reconocimiento de unas formas lingüísticas a las que se asocia un significado en el uso. 🥺
There are missing parts.
Yeah, I think so
Nevermind, the first gap is the only one that doesn't make any sense, the rest is fine + the capital letters were confusing
@tawny elm
Can you help me check the answer?
Answer 4 is defo not right since it was used in the example
But there are two nutrition
It's probably quality even though it doesnt make sense, it makes the most sense
Oh yeah
Nevermind
last would be healthy imo
And first one is diet
and where should I put foundation? 4 maybe?
I do think so, but there're only 11 words
No clue mate
@mild viper If I change answer number 10 to "healthy", where would "foundation" goes to?
what's the best way to learn 300 words in 1 day

Don Quijote prosigue su camino y se encuentra a dos mercaderes a los cuales les cuenta la belleza de su amada dulcinea. Estos mercaderes, para satisfacerse, le asienten diciendo que si pero que será manca y tuerta. Hello, what does this text say? I don't get what the word ''asienten'' could mean here and alco ''manca y tuerta''
thanks

"Asienten" they nod their heads
Manca->one-handed and tuerta-> one-eyed
this is crazy, thank you so much!

Probably new practical chinese reader - there's a free pdf online if you want to check it out
break the characters down into separate components, so for example 新 can be broken down into 亲 and 斤, 题 into 是 and 页 - other than that it's just practice and repetition 😂
Is Mandarin hard
Ahoy, mates! I'm russian, if anyone need any help with the language i can help(:
Anyone here learning polish? Or even natives
feel free to DM & add me
wow thanks for sharing @nimble tinsel !
"saw"/"old saw" and "saying" are both words synonymous with the word "proverb" (ex. A bad workman always blames his tools)
e.g my grandma repeated the old saw, "a bad workman always blames his tools" OR as the old saying goes, "a bad workman always blames his tools"
but tbh as a native english speaker ive never used the word "saw" in that context in my life hahaha
hey i noticed some people here are learning chinese, if anyone needs any help with it feel free to dm me. i'm a native chinese speaker and i just want to be of help man 🙂

@tranquil tartan @solid island @calm plume not a problem! I hope it can help everyone. I personally found it quite the extensive list. I hope it can be pinned.
i already pinned it 🙂
Ohhh, amazing! So quick :D for some reason I can't see it on my mobile phone, thank you!
Refreshed and can see it now 👌🏻
Tell me if you want the message to be changed
ye could you edit it so that it describes what the link has? thank you!!
Yes good call! Will do that later!
I guess there is no way around practice TT but thanks anyway ^^
Hi guys ,how do you think which way is the best to remember new words?
Using Anki and immersing in your target language
Repetitive practice. This can be by simply learning rows of vocab using it a lot while speaking/writing or from reading often (in a book for example). These are just 3 examples. I can think of from the top of my head.
Certain words wil just click in your head while others only make sense in a context, don't feel discouraged tho!
If I remember correctly, you have to use/learn words/things 7 times before remembering, but I believe this is just an average. Don't quote me in this tho, I read that study a looong time ago
I made an edit! Should be clear what it is now
there is no difference. you can use whichever u want 🙂
What the best way I can learn and study a language this summer
thanks!!
it depends, do you know the basics or not?
I don't
Hello, is there someone who could help me with spanish literature? Barroco, Luis de Góngora...
mm that's a difficult topic xd
I'm already dead. Don't understand a thing as I'm not native hahahah
But I only wanted to know the difference between cultismo, culteranismo and gongorismo
and conceptismo
hahah
Cultismo refers to the words that are like "classic" and typical from old literature (they are not used in the daily language)
Culteranismo is a literature movement that uses many "cultismos"
Talk to Me in Tagalog is a great YouTube channel

like, with vocab and grammar for example, i'd like to listen to basic conversations and have a brief idea of what they're talking about
hmm i didnt study for too long myself but what is important for the kanji for example is to repeat it from time to time and to use it as well, even if you just do a basic sentence with it, it will help you remember it

can you pls recommend sm books available online for Japanese??? I'm trying to learn it as a hobby
i will dm it to you!
As a student who learned german, it looked like a « mathematical » language with rules to apply (different forms, position of the verb ...), and I completed these rules with a lot of vocabulary. That’s why i love this language (what do you think @silent patrol ?)
You could look for someone to speak with, in german
with what did you start and how long did it take you to learn the language and how did you motivate yourself
Do check out the pinned messages for free resources!
Well, I started at school, i’ve had a great teacher and just loved german
So, i wasn’t pushing too hard to learn it
It took me 3 years to get from nothing to B1

If you please can find a couple of scientific article about this on your language it could help me a lot. I will translate it by myself ^^

Hey guys I wanna ask if anyone here is learning japanese (kanji I think) what was your ressources to start with
also i'm about to learn it with my 11 yo bro
simple tips would help
Hi there! Did u check out the pinned msgs for japanese resources? There are some really helpful resources out there ^^
tbh I didnt lemme check
I personally use Duolingo since I'm a beginner
but that's all about Duolingo...just good for beginners
OH that's gonna be helpful
the main reason why I choose japanese is bcz of my brother he seems very excited to learn at the beginning but he was stuck
ohh well I suggest to learn few simple phrases to keep the excitement going and then you can start learning the alphabet systems...it's important to keep learning with that because that way you won't be dependent on romaji
thanks to anime I know few sentences but the alphabet system is quit "harsh" they have various alphabet systems , which one is the intermediate??
like the one I have to learn
ok so there are 3 alphabet systems...hiragana is the main one, katakana is used to write foreign words and then there's kanji it's pretty difficult but you'll cross that bridge when u come to it
I hope that helps!
thank you that was very helpful
you're welcome! lemme know if u have any other doubts...I've been learning japanese for quite some time now
I still have doubts which alphabet system should I start with
Happy learning!
Oh it's night over here lol but thank you! Same to you
hhhhh my bad

if you want to keep the excitement and not make it look tedious for your brother you can try minato-jf A1 course to get familiar with the language (you can find the link in the pinned notion page). In minato you can take seperate courses for memorizing hiragana and katakana too. If you do this along with duolingo I guess you can memorize basic words and the two writing systems easily
Hi guys, I want to practice my writing in English so I want to write a writing (like a short story) every week or if I can every day. But sometimes I don't have a topic to write about and I want to ask for help from you. Can you write a phrase? it doesn't matter which one, just a phrase. It would help me a lot🙃
phrase: sometimes, you have to struggle a little bit to become stronger.
thank youuuuuu so much, I like this phrase so much
I will try it for sure , he made a huge mistake starting with kanji I think he's gonna love it
You are welcome
Thank you for your help guys
yeahhh kanji is soo draining, i started learning kanji after 2 months. if i started immediately I would quit it
Kanji is pretty cool though, he will love it more if he first does some hiragana-katakana
For sure , I'll do the same
This was truly helpful thank you soooooo much
good luck!
How do I know if I'm being redundant or if I'm using parallelism?
Parallelism is used to compare/oppose two things while when u are redundant u repeate the same thing.
For example:
“We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” —Winston Churchill
Here they oppose the ideas of living/ life and giving/getting. Make a living you should get things that are necessary like food etc, but when u make life you give to others and help. It’s more about humanity than simply making a living.
Since you bring a new idea with parallelism it’s not redundant, being redundant would mean that you repeat the same idea
Hope it helps
