hello guys! i wonder if there are any great resources to learn English Vocabulary. i myself can't find any resoures. that's why i asked for help
any tips for improving my communication in french (i understand it when someone is speaking and i can even write essays in it but i'm bad in communication)
we literally study with it and almost every document is in french although the people here are bad too since its like the second language after arabic and english ,also people who speak french here are usually those mix arabic with some french to sound cliche u know those spoiled rich people
You from algeria by any chance?
morocco but close enough tho
we living the same shit.
what you want French for ?
basically anything from work to communication especially in college
do you have any communication classes in your UNI? , i know that some unis offer such classes to help the students improve their communication , else you can just try to consume more french content , music, videos etc, i think it helps a lot
i think it's the case for most Moroccans, we are good with grammar and vocabulary , but when it comes to fluent communication it's harder since we don't really focus in it at school
bruh we have but usually the level for most of the students is so bad that the exam is like 9 th grade level
How do I start learning Japanese
Also I'm very confused how Katakana and Hiragana are used with Kanji
Hi, firstly I'm not really good at Japanese but I can give you some advice about that. You can start by learning hiragana and some basic phrases and then you can learn katakana and more phrases. Don't worry about the words with used kanji, if you want to learn Kanji, the best way is to learn kanji with words. try to learn within the word instead of learning one by one. Because all kanji have more than one pronunciation. I hope you understood what I wrote. English is not my mother tongue.
Thank you! What you said was really useful for what my first steps in learning should be.
I'm very happy to hear that. Please don't hesitate to ask if there is anything else I can help you with. Have a nice day!
guys how can I study german alone?
Hi, anyone French on here? I need to translate an email from english/dutch to french, but I'm not fluent so I don't know if it's good. I just put it in chatgpt to translate but I'm not confident, so if anyone can check that would be great! You can message me 🙂
by watching some videos/movies/series with subtitles and if you dont understand a word you look it up online or write an text lets say you have an english text try to write that text in german and if you are missing some words look them online up unless you are in the beginning of learning where you have problems even to make an perfect sentence. where are you at?

Hi, i can help you if you still need someone to check !
You can do it.
I learnt German mostly on my own, then passed the rather difficult language test (TestDaf) to get into university in Germany (I'm not from Germany), flew there and got a degree in CS from a German university. Now I live and work here.
So the thing to know is why you do it. Preparing for a test is very different from speaking in Germany on a daily basis.
In my case it was to pass a test (I prepared daily for 9 months) and the rest I learned by immersion later, just by being in Germany and studying/working here.
You have to focus on 4 things:
- Words. You need to memorise at least 5-6k words. That's enough. What I did is I learned about 50 words a day (and reviewing 500 I already learned to keep my memory fresh). I mostly used news articles like from dw.de (https://www.dw.com/de/themen/s-9077).
- Listening. Just listen to podcasts. I recommend https://www.ardaudiothek.de/sendung/hr-info-wissenswert/54343080/.
- Writing. I wrote very specific texts to prepare for the test, and sometimes used a private tutor to teach me grammar (rarely happened though, mostly I used grammar text books).
- Speaking. Just use any language tandem app or paid speaking services like italki.
It took me 9 months with 0 prior knowledge to pass that test, which is considered a C1 level (but in my opinion, it is not). My pace was about 2 - 2.5 hours of learning daily (I've never skipped a day).
i'm A0
DAAAMN BRO THAt'S INSANE!!
you can do it 🙂 small hint, writing/typing things down and doing image visualizations makes remembering new words much easier. E.g. right now I am preparing for driving licence test (because in Germany i can't use the licence from my home country hence I have to pass their exam), and there are bunch of specific driving terms I've never met before, so I just map it in my mind to certain pictures/situations.
Good luck
Thank u so much for ur information, and yes this is a good way for sure
Anyone want to check my french essay? dm me, it's really short like 15 lines maybe 😉

It’s a scolarship from my school, there are very few places and I would love to get in. If someone could read it and tell me if something is wrong I would appreciate it so much pleaseeee
be as harsh as you want pls
could anyone recommend me an anki deck for just japanese hiragana and nothing else? I've found decks that have hiragana in them but they also throw other things at me like words and phrases, which I'm not advanced enough for yet.
Hii do anyone has any good ideas for memorizing Chinese characters cuz I study i Chinese and i feel lazy every time when i write them repeatedly so if there’s any good ways please share
Besides Chinese very hard 😭😭 it’s my third year in college rn and my oral and writing r weak i wanna be good before I graduate at least
@daring edge flashcards work well, and using them in sentences to learn multiple at the same time with context
Can u explain the flashcards i still don’t understand how to use them
I guess everyone has their own ways, I like to write one character on one side of a piece of paper and the translation + prononciation on the other side
I start from one side or the other, with only 1 element, and I guess the other 2
If I fail I reveal an other element and guess the last one
If one flashcard becomes easy you check it less often, if you have difficulty learning one you check it more often (leitner method)
I never used this but I’ll thank u🤍
Hi!! i am trying to improve my text response essay skills.. for English does anyone have any advice or resources online that may help me? :))

<@&942391219206647828> bro got hacked, and the message stays in alot of text channels
I would just download some chart you like and repeat it over and over, in a couple of days you should be able to recognize all of them without much trouble. You will see them so often that you do not need to worry because you will end up learning them
I just adjusted some sentences to make it sound more natural, and some words, but is really good 🙂 I'm native Spanish speaker from Spain. If you don't understand something you can ask me
thank you very much
My friend uses Anki (a free flashcard program) to memorize those, there are pre-built decks so you don’t have to make them yourself
Anyone who wants to learn Russian we can learn together i haven't started yet but I'll so is anyone out there

I want to buy an I.A that teaches languages for 12 months. (5,47$ month sharing with 3 peoples) The platform has 24 languages, if anyone is interested DM me.

I improved my english talking skills by playing online games
You can watch english movies/videos and chat on dc -> that's what i did. And don't worry, on most international servers half of the members aren't actually native in English either from my experience haha
thanks u
can i join dc that u are in ??
Sure, but ANY would do. Doesnt have to be study related ones. Since I was inactive for a long time, I only am on James' server (this one lol) and the Cajun Koi Academy. You might want to get to know them on YouTube first but you will not regret it
wich ones? im not really a gamer but i could try if it helps
Valorant has many fluent ppl in English that u can practice with them
Learning while having fun is really fun
Hope it helps and u get where u want

Somebody who speaks French here? I have problems reading/pronouncing word-endings in many cases. Maybe somebody has tips/general rules, something easy to remember. E.g. "aucun", or "crains" or "d'huile'", "Périgueux", etc. When are the last letters silent or when do I actually pronounce them..? Thanks in advance
I can talk to you
It's one of the languages i speak as a first language
Sure dude
German help!
Example: Was denkst du über das Wort "..."
Q: Why is it that "das" is not "dem" in this case?
I believe it should be "dem" because there is no movement or change of state, but it's "das" and I don't know why.
I'm confused since the preposition über is two way, meaning it's either dative or accusative, depending on if there is movement or change of state.
Is anybody here speak English fluently?
I can't really explain in detail, I'm sorry. Especially differences between accusative and dative are quite difficult to explain in English. But 'das' is actually in acusative
For Dativ, i.e. "dem", you can ask "Wem?", as in "(to/with) whom?" There are more complex cases, but that is the most simple case question. In your case, "was denkst du über das Wort" you have the Akkusativ, your word "Wort" is the direct object, the object of action. "Ich denke über das Wort ..." -> that is the answer to the question -> "WAS denkst du über DAS Wort?". A Dativ example would be "Hast du von DEM Wort gehört?" -> question "Von WEM hast du gehört?" -> "Dem Wort". I hope that can help a little bit.
But über is a präposition where you can have both cases, as in, the lamp hangs over the table -> "Die Lampe hängt über DEM Tisch", the question would be "Wo hängt die Lampe?" (Dativ) answer: "über DEM Tisch". Another example: I walk over the table -> "Ich laufe über den Tisch", the question would be "Worüber läufst du?" (Akkusativ) answer: "Über DEN Tisch".
Best explanation in English I've heard so far 👏
Hey I am kind of good at English and also I want to improve as well

Any greek speakers looking for friends? I’m learning greek.
i do!
I've been teaching myself Russian for a few months. I just use Duolingo
is it beter to learn first kanji and then japanese/chinese?
Hi! I have a question to german speakers! I learn German for 2 Years, and I have already passed B2 Goethe Exam (my native language is Ukrainian&Russian) . But that's really hard to use "Deklination von Adjektiven" correctly. In general, it is almost impossible to know all the articles, and because of this, I often make mistakes in the declension of adjectives. As native speakers, do you often make mistakes in this? And when you hear incorrect pronunciation from others, does it cause you to misunderstand? 🫂
yo do we say "he is obsessed with" or "he is obsessed by"?
the first one sounds better to me
Kanjis vary in reading and meaning in Japanese and Chinese (Japan implemented some of them including the system but nowadays they got their own readings). Chinese uses only Kanjis while in Japanese there is also Hiragana and Katakana. So first choose the language you want to learn and watch some good overall 'tutorials' on Youtube to have an approximate guideline.
I almost never make mistakes because as a native speaker it just comes naturally, but don't worry we can still understand everything despite the incorrect pronunciation
Thank you!!
oh right thank youu!
i dont know if it's the best way but i'm starting learning hiragana and some simple sentences( children's book )
try Busuu instead of Duolingo, in my opnion is a lot better. I've learned a lot more
I'll look into it
yes I did some research and between the 3 alphabets, hiragana is the simplest, so I think you did well to start with that one
I wanted to try to learn kanji, and make two moves in one haha (bc it's used for Japanese and Mandarin) but the way of reading is different for each of them :\
Busuu is a good app to learn japanese too, it's worth a try
No worries. They are banned
ty

Germany is the 3rd largest economy in the world rn, it's education system is free for everyone as long as u know German, its living condition is also one of the nicest. German gives u a lot of advantages, depend on your goal i guess.
hi guys! I need help with english language 😫 I’m studying the topic “there + be” construction now and I don’t understand a lot of things.. for example:
there is the rule in my student book: “in sentences with impersonal subjects we use word It instead of There when we talk about the weather” BUT at the beginning of the topic we have an example: “There hasn’t been any rain for some days”
WHYYYY 😭
and THEN I read THIS examples:
“It was a nice day yesterday”,
“It’s raining hard”,
“It snows a lot in Canada in winter”,
and “It’s going to rain”
help me please.. 🥹
ok so there are different types of sentences. some have a clear subject and some don’t.
when sentences don’t have a clear subject, they are called ‘impersonal sentences’ and words like ‘it’ and ‘there’ can replace the subject and be used as an ‘impersonal subject’
in sentences which don’t have a clear subject, technically you can use both ‘there’ and ‘it’ and the sentence will be correct. both these have no clear subject
- e.g “There might be rain soon.” ✅
- e.g “It might rain soon.” ✅
so, honestly speaking, I would not follow that rule 100% - if you are learning English for a specific purpose (e.g schooling) it would be a good idea to clarify with someone who can give you further advice
For Japanese, I recommend learning hiragana and katakana first, then Kanji. Make sure you learn Jouyou(everyday use)kanji.
okey thank you!!
Q13. Identify the tense used in the following sentence. “When I reached the bookstore, all the copies had already been sold.”
A Past perfect tense
B Past indefinite tense
C Present perfect tense
D Present indefinite tense
help anyone
i think it's past perfect tense, most commonly described with 'the past tense of have (had) + ed particle'. = Had been sold
what is jouyou?
they are the "everyday kanji" that are most commonly used

I forgot please lol
Heeeelp
Generally speaking..
IMO learning any language is only possible if you spend lots of time reading, listening, speaking and seeing it.
Learn your vocabs, everyday, with progressive overload. Learn basic grammar, sentence structure and little things like right prepositions, articles, verbs & their declination and exceptions to all of these.
Listen to, in your case, Spanish music, read Spanish things, watch your series in Spanish with Spanish subtitles, speak to Spanish-speaking people/friends you may know.
From own experience (learned French in school.. 4x2-4 week exchanges later I'm doing pretty fine, even after not speaking french at all for a year or two, my french remained pretty semi-fluent which is awesome), doing an exchange, for example to Spain or South American countries, is the best you can do to improve fluency once you've reached like a level A2-B1. This will help you to no longer struggle to actually form fitting sentences on the go, and kind of be "fake-fluent".
RTFW tho..
i would start with children's things, like mickey or something like this and change the content as required
just adding, your explanation was really good
No totally agree
I mean.. personally I think I got fluent speaking English just by YouTube alone
Everything on my yt is in English, so you cannot get around it which in return gets you to learn it more frequently
I'd say just find something not too complicated in the language you want to learn and in a topic you're really interested in.
Find I gaming/tech/meme/news/study or whatever channel in Spanish and just go from there
Thanks buddy thats pretty useful for me
Does anyone know when to us à and when de in francais?
if its about location.. you use à when you talk about where you will go ("On va à Paris." = to). If you want to say, where you just came from, you use de ("Je suis d'Allemagne." = from)
@visual spruce Merci beaucoup
Hey, I’m throwing this bottle in the sea hopefully someone would be interested .
I would like help with french but i want to specify that I’m already (more or less) fluent in the language, I’ve been learning it for years but never really got a chance to practice it in social situations . So i would like to talk to natives/ advanced . In return i can help with English. Tnx ^-^
Does anyone here know how to use phonetics to improve pronunciation?
Honestly.. phonetics as a way to learn the pronunciation is 1. IMO wayyy to taxing and 2. not as effective as listening to the word you're trying to learn. Again.. listen to audio books, yt videos, movies, music and TV series in the language you're trying to learn. I think if you spend enough time doing that, I think you'll get pretty fluent in pronunciation. Extra points when you speak to someone in the language you're trying to learn or even do an exchange in the country so you can only speak the language you're trying to learn. Example from German.. "essen" is to eat. If you solely look at phonetics, you'd learn it as EssEn.. so pronouncing both e's in a weird, but correct way. But if you talk to German people, you'll notice they don't normally pronounce the 2nd e, or not as dominant as phonetics would demand. This goes for all languages (100% sure) that the way you learn something differs greatly from how people say it in reality.
Conclusion: Speak to people in real life situations. Gradually adapt what you learned as you hear it.
I wanna use phonetics to be able to pronounce chinese words as the immersion practise is not really working
Thought it would be useful as any minor error while use a wrong Tone in any context could mean a completely different thing ....
Oh.. yeah I guess mandarin jus different in that case
What's phonetics
nobody click on that ^^
its a study of the sounds of human speech if im not wrong
Oh thank U
Descriptive, special alphabet that's used to express any language/vocal sound we make in languages. Example: occasion = əˈkeɪʒn
Each of these weird letters has a specific sound that it represents. That way you can describe ANY word with one alphabet.

can i get fluent at czech in 2 months?
help me guys im really stressed and im trying to do the impossible i want anyone here who can teach me czech very fast
I don't think you will be able to make it to a fluent level in 2 months, unless your native language is slavic or you already know another slavic language on a fluent level
You can try to do a lot prpblems in textbooks for Czech learners, combined with immersion (reading books, watching films or videos in Czech). If you put a lot of time into it, you might reach a good level in 2 months
<@&942391219206647828>
I need to learn french asap
hi! can anyone help me revise the english summary for my thesis?
<@&942391219206647828>
Small btw for the mods.. is any giveaway like this reason to @ mod-peeps? Because AFAIK Scams/fake giveaways etc. are not specifically forbidden in #rules .. so I'm never sure is I'm supposed to @ the mods or just say it seems like a scam..
Also idk what an "emergency" would be here..
"scams are not specifically forbidden" ye right, no use of common sense here
i just need to be in level where i can study scientific stuff in czech i dont want to be native level
Scientific articles are quite hard. Even for native speakers they can be difficult to understand. I think, you should start from general content (fiction, movies) and when you are comfortable with it and can easily understand most of it, move to scientific content.
Though, it's completely up to you, how you plan your studies.
It's generally recommended to start from something easier and gradually nove to harder content, so that you dpn't lose motivation. But any type of immersion is better than none 🙂
thanks for the help do you know where i can start ?
im really in a hurry to learn czech
Good luck in your studies!
There is a community on Reddit about learning languages. There is a wiki where you can find resources for learning many languages. Or you can write a post asking for an advice

I heard about that advice how is it working out for you ? / How did it work out ?
i can say that i’m bilingual now
i think
Hi guys I just got here
Were you also learning french ?
If you learned how to have ongoing conversation from watching content etc on french then that's rlly impressive
hii
Yo there!
previously I started learning Italian on Duolingo, and I barely watched a few lessons...but I didn't understand anything! Pronunciation, distinction between pronouns I didn't really understand anything! So what is the best way to learn Italian?
It's not about Italian!
what-?
It's about learning languages in general
She’s talking about Italian…
Im not learning Italian (yet) but I have been learning languages since 2018. The best advice I can give you is to learn the alphabet via youtube and learn phrases and small sentences on youtube as well
You can also use YouTube to listen to Italian conversations and pick up on the accent and pronunciation. Perhaps even watching “practice your Italian pronunciation” videos
Picking up the alphabet in the beginning would be so boring for her.
Do we even learm our mother tomgue this way ?
Everyone HAS to learn the alphabet in a language
Yes we do.
It willcome by time, not start with it
No it will not. You cannot learn to read without knowing the alphabet
I think one of the reasons for my failure is that I didn't know the alphabet at first!
i think you're right :)
Yes, so it shouldn't stand for long time.only larning alphabets
Just a quick overview, and then get into the language as a structure
Aw I see, the alphabet is super important too. It helps even pronunciation from the start
Perhaps or practicing it for 2 days. Its very crucial in a language
Yes, also there should be paying attention that there is a name of a letter and sounds that can be produced by
I'm really grateful! Thank you both :)
Of course Risa! Good luck on your journey

Yeah it’s so easy to forgot stuff, tryna develope a repetition routine rn so that I don’t fail my French course 😂
don’t hesitate!
if u want i can send of my school question, its writing questions, it has 4-5 questions to be answered and each questions has to be answered in different tenses
thank you so much for offering :)) however, I actually have a good amount of practice material for now. I’ve just been a little stuck since I get confused regarding knowing when to use certain tenses, I’ll let you know if I end up needing more material though☺️☺️

hey i think itll be better if u use #study-buddies
according to google translate it means "adopting different ideas"
anyone know a good way to learn arabic?
What language is it?
mainland Chinese
okok thanks!
Either my google translate is trash or idk but i can't translate it on my end ;-;-;-;
aight mine is trippin too. first it said adopting different ideas, then it said something else and then i tried to write it down to see if i could get a better picture of it and now it says "updated". ima try one one way but i doubt it will wokr
im too far into this and am about to look at every chinese symbol on wiki to figure it out
@wary matrix my brain started to fry when i was looking at the wiki. sticking with apples ability to copy text from images i got something. does look exactly like the characters and it absolutly doesnt make sense but its something. fed it into gpt and got:
The characters "屎本并" placed together do not form a standard phrase or word in Chinese. Individually, they mean:
屎 (shǐ): feces or excrement
本 (běn): root, origin, or in modern usage, it also stands for a book
并 (bìng): and, combine, also; or with a different pronunciation (bīng) it means sick
When combined as "屎本并", it does not have a coherent meaning in Chinese. It appears to be a random assortment of characters. If this is intended to be a name, term, or phrase, it's not recognizable as such in Chinese.
BAHAHAHA
You're the mvp thank you
it was a great use of company time lol
Lmaooo

tyyyy!!
<@&942391219206647828>
thankyouu
ok idk if this is really fit for this channel but is it bad to learn two languages at the same time or should i focus on one and then learn the second one when i reach a satisfactory level in the first language
The human brain is a marvelous thing
Babies can grow up hearing several different languages no problem
And adults can learn many languages at once
I myself taught me Spanish and French at the same time, studying both every day for a good while
There is no confusion, nor inefficiency
Id say go for whatever fits your schedule and your objectives best
As for results if you study both at the same time or one at a time, it tends not to matter
It will probably be harder, since its two different communication codes and your brain will have to "switch modes", but it eventually gets automatic
alrightie, thanks so much :O
What you studying
german!
Yo
i was just curious about studying two at the same time because i see other people do it whilst others are against it
I wish I had time to study German, thought about it today during breakfast
Probs gon do once I get the job I want
What would be the other one?
i haven't really decidedd
yeah they both sound awesome......
Omg 😭

Guys, I need some help 🥺 what does this mean ?
"you smiled and talked to me of nothing and i felt that for this i had been waiting long." 🙇🏼♀️🌟🤍
you smiled and talked to me about nothing and I felt that I had been waiting a long time for this
if it's still confusing, i can try to rewrite it more
🥲 could you separate sentences for me? and explain each Like
You smiled and talk to me of nothing : means
and I felt it .... 🥺🌟
"you smiled and talked to me of nothing" means: you were smiling while talking to me. we were talking about nothing important.
"i felt that for this i had been waiting long" means: i felt that i had been waiting a long time for this.
Overall meaning: You smiled and talked to me about nothing. And I think that I've been waiting a long time for that.
"you" was smiling while talking to "me"
"me" was happy about it, and thinks that they were waiting a long time for "you" to do that
is that more helpful?
it's sort of a cute little line. the writer was happy to talk to someone, even though it was about nothing. it seems like they were also wanting to talk to them for a long time.

this is good for learning the Arabic letters and how to pronounce it. u'll find the letters in several forms 'cause the Arabic letters are written differently if they are at the beginning of the word, at the end, or in the middle.
I hope this helps you :)
You have to learn the letters first Then there are many ways, start by learning the basic words, for example...
+u can ask me anything if you need :)

Hi I'm from egypt
Quiero aprender el idioma para poder estudiar en la Universidad de Granada en España porque amo mucho España y disfruto que la gente sea amable y acogedora. Fue un placer conocerte. Espero que tengas un buen día🥺🥰❤️.
No sabes lo que significa este gol para mí. Eso es todo lo que realmente quiero🥹❤️.
Hola!, si quieres te puedo ayudar de vez en cuando, i love seeing people being passionate about my country so if you ever need help or want to practice your speaking skills just let me know
The best way is to incorporate it into your life as if it was your first language, and try to speak it as much as possible even if you have to speak to yourself, oor practice with native speakers

Hi everyone! Hope y'all are doing good. Anyone has any resources to learn ukrainian?
Or any ukranian teacher?
I searched for all the details, but there are two things that are very difficult, which is that I have to translate the papers. I have sworn translators for the Spanish Ministry of Education, but they are only found in the Emirates, Spain, and some countries. Fortunately, I will be going on temporary leave to the Emirates, so I will translate them myself. There is a final step that I will explain so that it should be A trusted person in Spain should do it. The equivalent step is to send the papers that I translated in order to get a rating out of 10 through which I can enter the university. So this is the most difficult step. He graduates after a week. He reports the minimum, and after 6 months, he graduates at the real rate. It really takes time. So can you help me with this? Submit the documents for the equation and I will send you the amount you want because I was quite confused and then I remembered you and I would really be very grateful, my dear. I also want to register at the University of Granada. I love Granada very much. I feel like I belong there in some way. Thank you in advance. If you can’t, it’s okay. I don’t want to be annoying.

but what do you mean sending the papers? by mail?
Im thankful that you thought about me in this situation and its really not much of a bother if i have to send some mail ( i literally sent something on mail this morning lmao) but i dont quite understand what i have to do exactly
if you want you can explain further in DMs
I will send it somehow, not by mail, but by phone, perhaps as a PDF. I don’t know the details, so I think it will be sent online
so do i have to send it or not?
Yes
Let's gggooo
yes pls i dont completely understand the process lol
Goggle translation is so stupid 😂😭
Moment to explain this shit
I will send you my papers to be submitted to the Spanish Ministry of Education so that they can issue my degree through which I will enter the university.
alright where do i send it tho
the spanish ministry website?
i think you might also have to fill info in that process besides giving out the paper right?
It will take about a week and the minimum will come out, and then it will take 6 months to come out the real average through which I will be able to enter the university. Granada is asking for about 8 out of 10 to 9 out of 10. I apologize for the complicated explanation, but ask me if you are still confused.
They will change my grades in Egypt to fit your education system, and then they will give me what I deserve, and then I will be able to apply to the university.
The Ministry of Education in general, I do not know whether they have an office or what
i guess the website
I think yeah
there is a website for doing that, i send my scholarships requests there too
Can anyone please translate german for me? It's important
Heyy I know this is random, but if anyone knows any weird idioms, compounds, proverbs etc. in English, may send me a message since I need some to finish one of my projects for University. Thank you in advance
Or can just tag me here. Either is fine
you need specifically weird ones?
Those that are not used much
Or ones that generally have a weird origin
pretty sure "by the skin of my teeth" comes from the bible
"No such thing as a free lunch" i don't know much about the origin of this but it could be cool
And really thank you :D
i can think of a bunch for sure, but most of wha ti'd think of are the more common ones
Those are too okay
As long as I can do a little research about them
I've collected 30 by now, and I need to have 50
So yeah, any help is welcomed hahah
"Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer"
"If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em"
"If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it"
"Don’t bite the hand that feeds you"
"Beat around the bush"
"As right as rain"
idk what you have already but there's some
are you a native english speaker?
oh sweet, what's your native language?
Serbian
oh sick, can you tell me an idiom or proverb in serbian?
For sure, let me just think of some
So there is one that I like
Serbain: Moliš se u pogrešnoj crkvi ---> You are praying in the wrong church
But the English equivalent for this proverb would be: To back the wrong trace
oh like, you're arguing/supporting something but it doesn't actually support your cause?
Yes
Or it can be used for example when you are trying to find help from someone about something, and they say it to you because they can't help you with it
I don't know if you understand what I mean hahah
sounds like "barking up the wrong tree" a little bit
Doesn't that mean like to follow or make the wrong choice?
Yeah, like in the pursuit of something I think
Yeah yeah
So maybe you’re talking to the wrong person when trying to get something. They might say “you’re barking up the wrong tree” them being the tree
Now I understand that one. I used to think that "barking up the wrong tree" meant to be in contact with for example bad people and now you're in trouble with the same people
Now it makes more sense, thanks hahaha
Heyyy

Well, mostly words with an "th" sound, also some words that have an vowl followed by an "r"
Like,"thermometer" or "methyl", and like "order" or "source", for example
The latter examples, for me, they come out way too deep sometimes
what about words like "are"? or is it mostly the "or"?
They are okish
Sometimes "are" sounds deep too. Kinda sounding like "ore"
But I guess I've said it so many times it doesn't come out wrong most of the time
Same for "or" too
so, i imagine your native language doesn't have "th" or the same "r" sound? because i can imagine both of those being tough sounds to learn
i guess i'd just wonder, have you tried to look up tongue placement stuff about those sounds?
like how the th kinda goes between your teeth when you say it?
Yeah, pretty much you're right
My native language is portuguese, so it doesn't have the th nor the same r sounds
Also I've looked up the toungue placement for the th sound
But I still haven't gotten used to it
Probably I just need to practice I suppose (?)
it's a weird sound, like the kind that kids would mispronounce because it takes longer to learn
at least from what i've noticed idk
Oh really?
Didn't know kids actually had difficulty with it
they would probably say a t or d sound
it's kinda close, but your tongue like goes between your teeth instead
Honestly that's what I've been doing lol
Yeah, I'll try to pay more attention to the placement of tongue then
Tho it's kinda hard some times
Specially when there's and "t" or an "d" right behind it or in front of the "th" sound
Kinda like in
"Meat thermometer"
Seems like an random example, but it's been giving me some trouble actually
i think when i pronounce it, the t in meat is sorta softer ?
i was trying to upload an audio of me speaking it, but it wasn't working for some reason
That's okk
I apreciate it you trying to record it! Even tho it isn't working, you already helped me quite a bit right now, so it's all good
i wasn't sure if maybe the server doesn't let me upload audio or if i just messed it up cause it was on my phone
but yeah i would pronounce the t softer in the phrase? idk if that's normal or just how i'd say it
but i think pronouncing the t in meat harshly there sounds unnatural
i'm from new england, so that might be part of it
Fair enough
Trying to pronounce the "t" and the "th" right after the other is quite tough
Glad to know that's unnatural
Maybe with an british accent it's pronounced the t more strongly?
But I only guessing it, not really sure of it
Bro is a he
Does anybody have a good book to learn greek?
i have some knowledge about the letters but would like to learn words and grammar
depends on your germanics languages
french, dutch, italian, spanish
if you for example can speak french and dutch pretty well, german can be fairly easy to learn, altough its a very hard language to learn
same goes for french, if you can speak french really well, italian is mostly a breeze
(thats what my mom said xp)
All I know is english
And 4other Indian languages 😭
Hey does anyone have good resources and recommendations for learning Spanish by urself? I have a few Spanish-speaking friends to help me in conversation, but I need to learn the basics and such lol
hii are you still looking for someone to learn/practice with?
Iam looking for one 😭
@acoustic stone
0 experience...got an offer letter..but they want German fluency
That's why wanna practise...idk where to start from too...please guide
0 experience too :))
will start learning this summer
i am chill not hurry like u i first year and learn to study master
Summer is over bro 😢
What is ur age
Iam way older
Sry true
I have till Jan of next year
i think B2 can take u about 1 year to start from 0 :vv
6months
depend on your performance and effort
6-8 hours daily
maybe it impossible just study like 5 hours a day maybe
yeah i believe u can do it
u should take a onsite or online course too
i recommend Goethoe
im not the person you're looking for too sadly, that's a lot of time for german 💀 but i wish you good luck, my advice is to find a german youtuber or series you like, music also helps, so you can be in contact with the language even when you're not studying
Any course you would recommend??
im on B1 i think, I've been "studying" it in school for three years now, but i have something like STIs on it next year (die Abitur would be closer) and im planning to move to either Austria or Germany in September next year so i want to start actually using what i learn practically, that's how i learned english. So tell me what you had in mind, maybe we can work something out
never took any specific course so i can't help you there, but if you can afford it, irl courses are the best, maybe even some summer school kind of thing
oh im a beginner too, trust me i suck
iam a purely beginner :))
I live in an African sub urb
Irl courses are like finding a nail in a hay bale
fair enough (':
i intended to learn German 2 months but still dont because i have to spend time to attend some cs contest. so i am still a noob
u can find online course
in 2 months?? damn how are you gonna do that
what's your first language if you don't mind me asking?
i have some academic contest in uni so i dont have time to learn german maybe after final exam i will seriously learn it
but right now i am suck so i cant help u with that
Yes goethoe as u mentioned
u can search some pdf material
Yes I will
schritte i see lot of people recommend this
I have sought advice from people, but I havent learned yet
FSI languages courses, you might try german, turkish/swedish/lingala were fun
So maybe you'll get lucky, its free on google
Starting language is English only
Hello, Is there anyone who can help me/give me some tips on this topic, called “civilization: clash and coexistence”. Ik its a pretty broad topic, so you can give me anything. I need to write a speech on this topic, just around 400 words. Also, who can give me tips on public speaking? I get really really nervous especially when I talk in English on stage as it aint my first language.
Chat gpt is ur best mate
if the topic is new to you, i recommend you research by yourself first so any idea can naturally ignite you. And about public speaking, practice till you can speak without thinking (muscle memory), and if you are nervous about making eye contact with people then just don't. you can just look over people's heads or anything else but pretend you looking at them. (As a short-sighted person, I won't wear contact lenses to avoid eye contact) being nervous is normal and making mistakes on the stage is completely fine but the show has to go on so the point is being conscious and staying confident.
Using chatgpt is acceptable but I have to be honest that your speech will unavoidably be just average (generic)
Thank u for ur tips, I really appreciate it. I will try to implement them
True...doing research by yourself will give you like a new motive...and help in u general and in future too
Do that first maybe
But don't go too deep in the vocabulary part...coz in stage once u forget the pronunciation and don't have any other alternatives...you will be just starstruck...ur mind will melt and u will be standing there in utter shock
It has actually happened to me once that’s why i am sorta traumatized to go back on the stage again
I mean I gotta get out of my comfort zone so I tried to push myself into this
Happened to my friend once during a competition the topic was about fears and phobias...I talked about claustrophobia (being basic)
He wanted to talk about
Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia if I'm not wrong...yea he choked at the beginning itself
Well atleast he tried
Yea try it...give ur best shot...always look in the eyes of the judges first..and slowly make ur way towards the audience
Looking confident is the key...and go slow...don't look like ur revising an answer
I had to check the spelling on this one
If I were him I wouldn’t remember it as well..
That’s where I am bad at, every time I look at the judges I forget everything and my voice becomes really shaky
Try it with your friends first...
Then go to your teachers...trust me they won't say no
Then try with your girlfriend ( as most PPL get intimidated while talking to girls)
I will try, thanks for your time and tips
Alrightt, thank you very very much!!

Hello, I am French, I live in Paris.
I want to study abroad.
For this I have to take an English test which will last one hour on Duo Lingo.
I must obtain a minimum score of 100/160.
Would anyone like to do this with me on appeal?
I'm pretty sure that most colleges/Universities don't accept DuoLingo scores
You would most probably give an IELTS or TOEFL test
Which gives out certificate for your English proficiency
Or if you wanna put one in LinkedIn you can try EF-Test
Duolingo is good for practise tho
The university where I want to go asks for a Duolingo exam that's why I want to pass it..
😭 people accepting duo lungi exams??
Can I just write it and give?
I won't be available at times so
Otherwise maybe someone will help
Yess😭😭
Okay, no big deal, thank you for your answer
I hope to find someone quickly enough. I'm going to panic🫠

I don't have any experience in learning japanese but one of my friends who learns it by herself gave me some tips; watch a lot of japanese movies so you get used to the way they speak, memorize all hiragana and katakana and try to exercise them by reading japanese text like product ingredient lists or manga, and slowly learn the text meanings while trying to speak japanese by singing along to lots of japanese songs
start with hiragana, after katakana and starting getting used to kanjis while studying both
i would recommend Busuu app at the beginning, is like duolingo but a lot better. It help me a lot with the memorization with the 3 types of alphabets
Okay alright
Is there any hope for me I could talk Japanese
I m not that young but I am ready to do my possible

Is someone here by any chance learning Haitian creole?
if only this existed for korean
It would never because of infinite grammar exceptions
Hey guys just want to ask
I think it is B but my friends saying it is C, im really confused rn, pls help me 🥺
I also think it's C ( working )
It's C. Why? Because that's how the rules indicate it. There're words that indicate you when the following verb have to use the infinitive form (to + verb) or the gerund form (verb + ing), or even both may be possible. In this case, after the verb "stop" it's better to use the gerund form according to the rules.

Use japanese pod 101 on YouTube to learn hiragana first
Katakana next
should I even visit duolingo with anything concerning learning Japanese?
got it
Good for learning formation of sentences
But don't rely too much
okay got it
i tried it this morning and it looks like i'd be jumping around
i'll follow the guide you shared
🙏
I personally am listening to a song
This is for hiragana..I listen to this and practise@green tusk
not gonna comment on how it sounds in my ears rn XD
still too ignorant to listen to this song
i wish i will be able to use it soon to practice
Learn the hiragana then you'll find a meaning 😂😂
Yeah
i am also learning but it sounds to me in spanish like call "to" someone, it's like pointing to who you calling. Also ayudar a I believe and so. might not be true tho but that's how I think
have to is translated to "tengo que". tengo is have and que is to. It's a phrase that's always like that I think

Find if that language has exam, find the exam course material and for basic alphabets/grammar go to coursera for free courses or for starting there are even youtube videos. Duolingo for a start as well
@hard cedar @ebon scarab
Thanks guys 🤍That was good for me.
It's okay 😊👍
To master a language, dedicating 2-4 hours a day can be highly effective, especially if you have a lot of free time.
playing games can be an effective way to increase language skills, especially if the games are designed for language learning or if they require extensive reading, listening, and interaction in the target language.
