how come the roads on maps I download, when I put ai vehicles on them and set them to like chase for example, I can debug their path.
but when I make a road (road spline and decal road for pathing set to 1 drivability)
I can't see their pathing in debug mode?
I can also spawn traffic on the road I make too, but they don't really follow the lines I laid out.

Well the thumbnail one I think it has to do with how it loads the image in the info folder and for lua it depends on what you changed cuz lua is touchy

Im wondering if anyone has any experience with beamng engines however as i want to change the engine in a beamng mod since i really hate the engine in it. The physical stuff and jbeam can stay the same its just the sounds and transmission and stuff

Well irl you have a subconscious feeling of trying to not destroy the clutch and gearbox, and it’s more tense
In beamNG you don’t need to worry cus it won’t cost you money to break, and you aren’t as immersed
in beamng career mode it costs money to repair cars and shifting badly can damage your car
so i guess thats something
its never gonna feel the same cause u have no clutch or shifter feedback
there are no mods that change such low-level behaviour

You would need to set the electrics value for lightbar to 1 or 2
Lightbar = 0 | No lights no sirens
Lightbar = 1 | Lights
Lightbar = 2 | Lights and Sirens
It is possible to get independent control of the lights and sirens but I don't know how to do that.

In the powertrainDeviceData stream there's the gearbox but is simply called "Gearbox"
In the engineInfo stream, there's that one string that always returns "manual" but I'm not sure it's related
In the electrics stream, there's no useful way to tell which gearbox there's in the car (at least, none that I could find)

Yeah, the reason why I was asking is I've got American truck simulator engines sounds, and I wasn't sure if I would be able to upload it to the repo. And they're J. Beam file is named the exact name, but the model isn't actually the real model. It's just using the T-Series model.

What mods should I have if I what to customize vehicles
that really depends on what you're looking for
Tires, suspension, engine swaps, aspiration , body kits
if you head over to the widefap server, there's lots of wheels and tyre mods available in there that aren't on the repo. There are lots of wheel packs on the repo however all with various tyres as well. For engine swaps, they tend to be more specific rather than in packs, if you search engine swap on the repo, you should find some good stuff. That said, the CRD Pack has lots of nutsy engine and aspiration tuning options to build wild shit. For bodykits, again you're looking at specific mods for specific vehicles, though mods like KJLP have quite a few different styling kits for a number of different vehicles

Hello gentlemen, I just bought beam.ng drive, any good mods or cars you can reccomend for controller (I'm getting a sim setup in about 8 months, so don't make fun of me for being poor... yet)
(I can use outside mods and the repository, so mods from any where are cool)
brother vehicles take months, years in some cases, to build for BeamNG. Its very unlikely for anyone to pick this up
honestly, the repo is your best bet anyway. Forums also has a lot of very good stuff that can't go on the repo, but almost everything you'll want thats decent quality will be on the BeamNG site somehere

You're welcome; Fuel consumption is there, tire wear is not. Drafting I don't believe so, multiplayer is using third party tools, and there are some realistic tracks in the vanilla maps, but there are a lot of assetto corsa ports available on the forums
all that said, BeamNG is not a sim racer, there are better titles out there if that's what you're looking for. However Beam is fantastic for everything else, rallying, offroading, time attack etc... just building cool stuff and giving it hell on a circuit
personally I like seeing how fast I can get a well built crap-can around the nurburgring

most high quality mods, especially ones from the official beamng forums, support skins in one way or another, you can make a lot of skins, even ones that glow!

depending on what I name my jbeam file beamng will either load it properly or it will say "unable to read file: <filename>"

fastlane isnt the best either, if you want the best (as in 100% hand made, vanilla dev quality in terms of content and optimizations) id go with LJ74

Steer Beamng itself is already showing very good progress throughout the globe, i have analytics showcasing users using the app for an average of 30 mins daily.
But I'm pissed that 80% of people will just ignore lore cars fully
the reasons are so dumb at times
Lore cars are probably the best cars that have the best optimization in the game
Comparing an IRL mods optimization to lore mods/cars they just don't stand a chance, and the Jbeams
for mainly a reason
they need to be designed and modeled, and cant use ripped models, or even if they are a 1:1 copy, if they want to be on the repository, they cant use ripped models, so that turns off most of the modders that do that
they have the freedom of being a custom design

I am looking for someone with prior knowledge/experience with beamng mods Cause i am terrible in it 🥲. As i am currently trying to fetch vehicles related data especially the active vehicle data in the beamng, if by any means we can transmit the info related to gears, steering angle, indicators, hazards, headlights, parking brake/handbrake e.t.c through a dedicated port. Then we can listen, feed and sync the data with the "Steer beamNG app", this will make it a complete 2-way communication, it will make the "Steer beamNG" much much more immersive and synced with the game, which currently isn't possible as it's just one way input right now (app > windows helper app > vjoy > game) anyone?

if you never made a 3d model before, the easiest thing would be to find a model and download it.
As oil rig can be a bit complicated, especially for the textures. But you could simple it down and use the material "lod_verticol" and just paint with vertex pain for the materials.
The default recommendation is blender for 3d model, there might be some other free ones that are more simple to use.

ok so a bit convoluted, but I'm making new parts in a new material/map because I need more UV space, and I have this with skins.
Is there a hack or smth that, if a skin gets equipped (or even at all times), that material just uses the original main material on layer 2 (because UV2 mapping would work with it anyways)
or will I just have to make new materials for all skins affected that apply the skin to my new material aswell and screw custom skins

Hello, i have few questions regarding how BeamNG handles some stuff:
- Can you export whole map in one .dae? Does Beam treats it as one single object, or it can read different objects which are in one .dae?
- Can you use one ORM texture for metalness workflow or you need separate textures?
i dont think you can export the terrain block itself as dae, but you can export its heightmap and material info.
2. I dont think you can, i think they all have to be seperate (not fully sure)
Or if you mean import a map ingame as one mesh, that wouldn't be a good idea for multiple reasons (won't have LOD's, the colision mesh will probably be really laggy, and leaving tyre marks on that object will lag the game)

specifically i mean not as one whole object - i have few objects in blender - lets say ROAD_1, ROAD_2, ROAD_3 - they are separated objects - for example if you save it like that as .fbx for Assetto, it reads different objects as different meshes and loads them based on proximity to player, question is if i save that as .dae, will it be 3 objects or just 1
i know from past that i can "instance" same object in beamng in some .json file, in that file you write position and specific .dae
it will be one object ingame, but the lod's will act seperate
also in beamng you import an object, and you can duplicate it how many times you want, and those will be instances of the same mesh

No, there isn't, apart from randomizers that randomize all vehicles and parts. For me, it's just one car and a bunch of configurations of the same vehicle, and I'm having issues (well, I can't show you because of my time zone). It's mainly the UI side of the mod, its display and its inner workings, that I can't get to work.

slots2 is the same as the old slots, but with the addition of allowTypes and denyTypes. DenyTypes don't work currently so just leave it empty all the time, and allowTypes should normally just be a cupy of the regular name and it will work like normal
allowTypes is basically an overwride for the regular slot name, but with the ability to add multiple slots at once. This is used in T-series suspension for example

In short terms yes, the trigger system is a bit more complex than the vanilla one, and have the ability to be enabled and disabled with a input electric, for example if you open the door with the handle, the handle disables and you need to use the door panel pull area

So you want just the engine to be a seperate mod right? If so just make a folder called mrwmod then in side another folder called vehiclesthen inside it one with the name of the vehicle fodler of the original mod. Then place the engine jbeam inside it. And put the main folder in your unpacked mods folder.

I am trying to make more fender flags for the Grand Marshall. I plan on using the vanilla fender flagpoles that came with the limo update and replacing the flag image itself but I can't get it to show up in game. How do I accomplish this?
You need to copy the material.json file for the flags and replace the right texture file name in there with yours, and then either replace the flag material with skin jbeam slots, or with alternative flags like the T-series colored bumpers do it
for some reason my models wont show up unless i put them in the flexbodies of other existing parts

Each car skin has a jbeam, which is only there to tell the game to use the material you made. Alternatively you can also make a new flag that has the material replaced from the start
mod land has realistic cars
You need at least 3 nodes near the flexbody that have the same group name, check what group your nodes have and try with that
Modland is full of slop, bad quality mods, potential malware, and you just shouldn’t download any mods from there, nor any other 3rd party site

Are you sure that this is what the body group is called?
You need to look at what the flexbody uses, not the part name. It's probably just gmc_body or pickup_body if the vehicle is based on the D-series
If you scroll down here you find the flexbodies section, where the crew cab model is added

Cars in the selector are now sorted after categories, maybe that mod doesn't support that and therefor landed somewhere at the bottom or something

I’m trying to make a small UI app with one button.
The app shows up in the Apps list, name + description are there, but the button itself doesn’t appear in the window in game.
On click, the button should:
keep the current vehicle
pick a random config of the same vehicle
including .pc configs (since they’re configs too)
if a .pc is picked, keep its original color
The lua part works when I trigger it manually, but I think I’m messing up the UI side (app.html / app.js / app.json, templateUrl, directive name, folder name, etc).
Console shows stuff like:
app not found: randomconfig / configapps
I’ll also send:
my app.html / app.js / app.json (apps side)
and the lua extension that actually does the randomization (which works)
So yeah, I’m probably missing something obvious in how BeamNG links the UI files.
Any idea what usually causes the button not to render?

Hello! I am currently trying to fix an Issue where my custom configuration of a vanilla vehicle using vanilla parts, a vehicle of the "Police" type, loses this typing when I apply said configuration, making AI police cars chase after me for any infraction, rather than chase a target with me.
I know Vanilla vehicles have their vehicle type set in a .json file in the main steam folder. I was thinking I could just edit the Configuration's .json to have it also be a "police" type, hoping this would fix things.
I am now running into the following issue: Configurations are stored in the Appdata-Beamng folder, where only ".pc" files are present.
Do custom Configurations even generate .json files? My rudimentary online research has lead me to believe they do, but I cannot find them anywhere.
I dont even know if changing the Config-Car's .json would help me for this case, but I figured it would be worth a try. Is what im describing here even possible?

if a .pc is picked, keep its original color
The lua part works when I trigger it manually, but I think I’m messing up the UI side (app.html / app.js / app.json, templateUrl, directive name, folder name, etc).
Console shows stuff like:
app not found: randomconfig / configapps
I’ll also send:
my app.html / app.js / app.json (apps side)
and the lua extension that actually does the randomization (which works)
So yeah, I’m probably missing something obvious in how BeamNG links the UI files.
Any idea what usually causes the button not to render?

Did you open the Ui dev menu with control + U to check for cef errors in the app?

Look in the jbeam they are called smoothers and should be i nthe main covet jbeam you need the filament and electrics section

Shouldnt the directive name be the name of your app? Thats what broke mine for the longest time

Just so you know what you’re looking at:
– The Lua extension works and correctly randomizes configs for the currently selected vehicle
– The main issue is the UI app side (app.json / app.js / app.html)
– I keep getting “app not found” even though the directive, name and paths seem correct
– I’m probably missing something obvious in the app registration or structure
Feel free to change anything if you spot the problem, I’m still learning how BeamNG UI apps work.
(PS: I wanted to create these mods because I don't see any other mods that do this: when you click on random, it doesn't just choose the vehicle you've selected.)
