It’s off sketchfab so it’ll be a private mod I’m just doing it for fun, getting models from fs is such a pain in the ass
Models from fs don’t export with materials and don’t export to scale either

since if you try to spawn a vehicle with no body the game will freak out because there are no nodes to spawn

Does anyone have a tip to how to get the beams smaller to match the tire?
I edited the scale in the jbeam to get this size and have the tire radius at : 0.001 and this is the size currently.

Like your issue might be that the rim is too big not that the tire is too big
you would be correct! I found that I had missed the hub radius part of the jbeam.. Fixed that down some and now its perfect

So, I want to add some logic in the game via mod, so there is actually a punishment system when you cross a red light or go in the wrong direction and such. Is there any guideline about how to go by? All the tutorials for modding I saw were either making skins, vehicles or maps, but didn't find much in terms of how to get logic in the game, so your car is affected by things like cross with red light or do illegal things on the road.
I don't think you know the meaning of sparse. Also, you need a high poly model to bake onto the normal map. It doesn't just spawn out of thin air

Something doesnt seem right to me about this part, dont you normally have to use a transfercase to split the power? Why is it showing an opened diff inbetween the axle and the driveshaft

I would have imagined the driveshaft would link directly to the axle’s diff since its rwd, and if it was 4wd itd have a transfercase before the driveshaft
Beamng really doesnt like it when power is split like that from my testing
My gut feeling is that the open diff + driveshaft to nowhere probably sucked up all the torque.
As for diff as tcase, I had pretty ok success using an "LSD" with zero lock and 99% torque split to fake a clutch pack for an attesa implementation (via preload value abuse from Lia side).

So I’ve got a question.
For making a new body part (my example is a bed) I exported the blender dae as “dually bed”
What all in the base game vehicle j beam do I need to edit to get it to load that model I made?
I was under the assumption it was just the name, creator, and file name to the same name in my mod.
But when I select it the entire bed disappears. The beams are still there as I copied the original bed jbeam but the model is gone.

it depends
plenty of times you may want there to be a default fallback part in case configs miss it (such as coilovers or glass, you usually want those parts to be there without having to save them in a config)
the bx, for example - only the auxiliary part slots don't have defaults

As If modding was already hard enough making people use channel packed textures would be hell
And the way the images are compressed I don't think you get much savings
But I think using DDS format means that the performance usage doesn't mean much
Thing is most things for beam can't just be exported and forgot
I have to adjust most of the textures I make in a picture editing program and most people don't use Photoshop which can do fancy shit with color channels
JSON is pretty simple at least for cars
But not everyone uses substance
And people that use substance don't use it for everything
Channel packed textures work when it's just developers using them but when amateur modders have to use them it just complicates things
I mean textures get processed by the engine themselves
Most modders use .PNG then it gets converted to DDS internally, then when the mod is done you can use the converted textures so that each user doesn't have to convert them
It's the easiest
Easily modifiable, you don't have to worry about saving as whatever format and every program can work with it
But isn't exr for 3d environment textures
I don't even know what any of that means
Beam only has base color, black and white and normals
PNG works fine for Beam
Any other format is just making things more complicated
The game internally uses DDS but PNG is used because its easy to use for Normal people
Especially for skins and the sort

only things I can see is that your center point is not in the true center on the dually bed (maybe that throws things off?), and that when you replaced the file, it had like twice as much file size, so maybe after you export it like that, try to then load the renamed bed from the beginning again to check if maybe the whole file is not read by the game
Got it. I have tried to move the center point (didn’t know that mattered 😅) but I am realizing the bed that works has a note that’s it’s a “plane” under it in blender.
The one I have says “mesh” instead of plane
But when I join them it converts the whole thing to mesh. Which idk why

I have been wanting to ask this for some time, but, is hard surface modeling with no subsurface absolutely necessary for beamng? Note that all objects in the picture have the subsurface set to 1. The only object in the picture with clean quad topology is the spare wheel in the back. All I have to do is to fix the topology on the other objects.

check vanilla vehicles for reference on polycount, use recently remastered ones as references
you dont need a highpoly for a lot of stuff to bake normals or texturing
with bodies you can just use bevel normals and paint normal details on the chassis

The fwd configs of the pre-remaster sunburst was pretty close in my experience. Not sure if anyone tried to mod the old transverse engine back onto the sunburst yet though.

But I can't say how good the mod is, or what engine model it uses

Since the etk is smaller you could do similar with a v12 or maybe v10 and put the radiator in the back. Would have some potential to be combined with the bodykit

As an ex '18 owner, I can confirm that the FWD sunburst drove about equally as bad as the real thing. The lowest spec CVT version was a dead-ringer for my rental-special E170 Corolla.
For that older gen Corolla, I am kinda torn between Arima Caleo (search this discord/BeamNG forum) and the vanilla "new" pessima.
are working mirrors hard to implement? i see a lot of mods where the mirror is just a picture that maybe turns, its just a chrome texture or its completely black
they probably made it a reflexion instead of a proper mirror. You have dynamic reflexion off or really low so that's why they look extra bad for you
i have a few mods installed, on one mod the mirrors work just as intended and the other mode has a reflection

Thinking about learning mapping and im curious on how big I can go, kinda wanna start a project of mapping maybe an entire county or two or three or maybe 4 even of pennsylvania
You could have an insanely large map, but with very very VERY low detail

mostly graphics i wanna say, but also after several hundred(?) kilometres you run into floating point issues

Afaik there’s no limit but at a certain scale, even 8k there’s little detail
in previous game versions the game took 32gigs just loading that map under vulkan and crashed at 60%. that got better since then, but yea i think it may contain all the answers you need

I use the D series very often, just a very versatile vehicle, makes me go insane that the rear windshield breaks on every tiny little bump while everything else is either perfect or near perfect
I mean out of my like 400 hours in this game probably 350 of them are spent driving the D series
if the vehicles ingame had a working odometer i'd probably have like 400000 miles on it

I'm completely inexperienced with doing anything in beam or javascript or lua, but I've been looking into making what I thought would be a simple app for myself and I'm so in over my head.
The idea is a graph that shows the torque curve for my current gear at my current wheel speed, as well as the torque curve for the previous and next gears. I wanted to create it to help me determine when it's safe to downshift, and if downshifting or upshifting will (theoretically) gain or lose torque at the wheels. I know how to do the math for all of it, but the code is so beyond me and I have no idea where to start. Like just looking at the code for TorqueCurve-v2, I can't even tell how or where it's getting the torque data. It seems like it's getting it from an index on a list? Maybe?
Anyway, I just need some guidance. Anything would be helpful
Every car engine has a torque index which includes the torque value @ rpm for every 500-1000rpm. Exhaust, intake, engine block etc modify the torque figure aswell

2 layers in mat tab and then for base color palette if you add a red green or blue image that will make it colorable red is color 1 green color 2 blue color 3 so if you have a skin and want to make part of it colorable you would make that section red green or blue and it will be paintable

If you are using the bx trans I think it might expect the nodes to be under the bx_engine node group which if you used find and replace you might have changed

The sunburst remaster probably broke it

I've started a small and quite simple mod which is a fully adjustable final drive for all vanilla vehicles. Based off of the race adjustable final drive, it expands the slider from 0.1 all the way to a 10:1 ratio
I'm just not sure if my methods are right but i'm basically creating a part for each vehicle using their respectable slot (so no intermediate part/slot)

hello, folks. i'm curious how difficult, with zero modding experience, it would be to learn how to make a mod that splits the rangebox and output shaft into different buttons, so that you can have H2, H4, L2, and L4, instead of just the standard H2 H4 L4, if it's even possible. i would especially like to be able to have this just change the keybinds, rather than having to create a whole new transfercase, so that it will hopefully remain compatible across the board with vanilla parts and modded parts, assuming this is a possibility.
Well I think you can find the transfercase code in the car's jbeam files and go from there. My best guess is that you need to just create a new part for it. It's quite simple really. If you don't know how to do, I can try to explain it to you
