I have seen reports that some ICE agents use a facial recognition app. I'm not sure if the app also records video, most likely this officer was just recording. https://www.npr.org/2025/11/08/nx-s1-5585691/ice-facial-recognition-immigration-tracking-spyware

confirming that this video is what i refer to as 'the SHAME video', although i was not aware they were the same clip and i use that term to refer to specifically the section with the shooter walking away
My bad, his phone is actually using the front camera in that shot. Pointed at the dinosaur car, no less.

Yep, also the "left angle" the Shame part is in the aftermath; and yes it the one that I posted the day after the shooting. Don't know if the tweet is still up however.
There are body cams that use Apps where you can take photos and such with the app and upload it directly to a cloud based evidence storage database. We have one at my agency.
Edit: the apps are downloadable on any smart device
Hey guys. Instead of screenshots, provide a link to the information. If you just provide a screenshot, we have to track down where it came from to prove its accuracy.
Thanks. So I got seven frames from the first tirespin frame, and the first clear indication of upward motion in the gun hand. That's 231 milliseconds. Note: I am assuming the tirespin, which happened DURING the change in wheel direction, indicates a gear change, and also the first detectable moment when forward motion could have been perceived. Although, because of the spin, the vehicle didn't actually move forward at all. But it could have visibly shifted or lurched on the suspension.
Did the car’s side mirror touch the shooter?
I'll give a few minutes for everyone to clean up their posts.
Not sure it matters? Shots already fired in that position?
Actually never mind. Rewatched, the side mirror still entact
I count 8 frames on 30 fps, which is 0.27 seconds. Used the video referenced here: https://bsky.app/profile/777nocomment.bsky.social/post/3mbu5lqe3ak2c and set the tire spin at 10 sec 8 frames and "pulling from holster" when his shoulder moves up at 10 sec 16 frames.
I got seven frames. I am seeing a subtle upward shift in his shoulder maybe a frame earlier than you are seeing it?
Could be, with 1/30 sec resolution you have to figure in at least half that on either end when doing a duration estimate. But still, that puts it within human reaction time.
Yes it does. But only if you contend that he could have sensed any motion of the car at the time of that wheel spin. Which is totally possible, but not necessarily the case.
But 100% her turning the wheel over started well before the wheelspin.
And was plainly visible from his position based on the new footage.
Via Knox News Sentinel @knoxvillephoto today:
“Tennessee political leaders are working with Trump administration officials "to go after illegal immigration" with a slate of bills that will be introduced this month.
Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton told Knox News exclusively he expects around eight or nine bills that will make Tennessee a testing ground for duplicating Trump's immigration crackdown at the state level. The idea is for Tennessee's GOP supermajority to pass a series of laws that other states can use as a model.

It appears he’s speaking at an “Americans for Prosperity” meeting.
One thing I'm confused about... I had assumed, based on footage from down the street, that he must have leaned with his left hand (the phone hand), on the car. Because of this moment in that footage, where he has stepped both legs back from the car, and seems to be at an angle that can only be supported if leaning.
alex.nick.jungle 18m:
MINNEAPOLIS: Border Patrol agents warn two white women in separate SUVs to stop trailing them and not to impede. 'Dont make a bad decision today..."
Or you will get killed like we did it before
Considering we know that is the car he drove to the scene and also was the one he left. Note( for CW sake skip to 1:35 where it's clear. Before that I'm gonna apply the CW as there is a good 20-30 second part of that video where the lady walks over to the car and there is a brief close-up of the victim.) Now it appears that he enters the car, I was not 100% certain how he entered the Gold Tahoe, (Note 2: wasn't 100 certain that was him and didn't want to speculate at the time) but given the new footage it definitely looks like the ICE agent entered in via the drivers side of the car and "drove" away; which makes more sense now that he drove in. But that does bring into huge context the 5 point turn the Tahoe used to leave the scene, especally consdiering that its a one way street...
Looks plausible, the camera is at a weird angle here, and very close to the car. Could well be he has put his hand on the hood here, or is just about to.
ftr the agent doesn't explicitly threaten to shoot her, that was added by the poster; he does threaten to arrest her and ruin her life
28 frames from gun draw to gun shot. He had the gun trained on her for about a half a second before firing. You can see the gun, dropping down lower, before he fired. In that time you can see him step his right foot back twice, and then plant it. And then you can see his gun, and also you can see his right foot began to drop back, while his gun drops down. The appearance is that he leaned on the car with what can only be his left hand, and it pushed his feet backwards, at the same time his gun position dropped, possibly caused by being pushed back.
Based on this, and photos of where that first shot went through the windshield, we have to consider that there is a possibility that the first shot was not on purpose.
Something that may have been missed in the video talk; the wife of Renee Good released a statement to Minnesota Public Radio today. As near as I can tell this is her only contact with the press so far:
https://www.mprnews.org/story/2026/01/09/renee-goods-wife-releases-statement-about-ice-shooting
archive version: https://archive.is/ur35j
Yes, I think you can see his hand on the car in the grainy distance video of the 5 vid sync from 41.07 to 41.13. Just above the headlight. The movement of the car appears to be what moves the scene round on his phone.
Uhh, just noticed this in the video the admin posted. Right after the shooting you can hear the agent call the victim a “fucking bitch”
I noticed that right away. Can't be 100% sure it was him, but it seems likely.
i think it's a safe bet that the one person we can hear say something through the blown-out mic is the guy holding the phone, unless extraordinary exculpatory evidence surfaces
Regarding that, looking at the video it appears that he is trying to film a close up of her face.
There is something that (may be) weird about the new video. There are two frames, that are 100% solid black. The frames immediately before and after are dark, but show detail, but these two frames are perfectly equally black across the entire frame.
I'm not sure how that could happen in a real unedited video. Even a totally lightless capture should have noise, no?
This BBC World News podcast has an eyewitness account in it's coverage of the MN shooting. These short audio broadcasts are only kept up for a short time on the BBC site I'm linking to. once the link no longer works I have a downloaded copy I can share if necessary
The latest five minute news bulletin from BBC World Service.
I used vlc snapshot to grab the frames from the video that I downloaded from this url: https://x.com/AlphaNews/status/2009679932289626385
These are the frames including one before and one after.
Timestamp and distance between frames, please?
compression?
also i mean. here's a photo i just took with my phone (galaxy) set on a table. maybe look for noise here as a control?
Haven't figured out how to get that out of vlc.
are they adjacent frames?
Yes those four frames are in order, after two shots of his face and one shot of his neck.
so distance between frames is 0, then
Ok, at work so can't go fully but just using this website and at a 100 ms interval.
https://frame-extractor.com/en/extract
But here is a rough idea i think of where your talking about
Online video frame extraction tool that doesn't require file upload to any server.
0:00:41.497 (+106ms)
00:00:41.590 (+93 ms)
00:00:41.691 (+101ms)
looks to me that he's putting his phone camera against his jacket for a moment
odd that it happens in one frame, but i mean. are we trying to ask if the video is altered here? i would question what would be cut out while leaving in what is actually present in the video
like the video shows her turning the wheel as far as it'll go to the right. whether the agent was hit by the side mirror or the corner of the hood or if the car missed him entirely is a formality, the narrative of a ramming is dead in the water
When I look at your test shot, none of it is pure black. I get mostly 030303, and some 060606 in a rough semicircle on the right edge of the frame.
interesting! possible confounder: the color of the table is a dark brown
Also, in the grainy distance video it looks like as he draws the gun he slips and pitches forward between 40:15 to 41:05 catching himself on the hood with his left hand. That would seem to explain the movement of the video at this point on his phone. He also seems to say something as he slips.
also, right edge is the edge of the phone, so that makes sense
Regarding the speculation, don't know if there are any mods here who can post/pin the rules of the channel for the new folk.
Are we sure this isn't some feature of the phone/camera to go dark beyond a certain limit? any specifications?
Modern digital cameras still have a lag time between a capture at the original exposure values and when it can adjust to a sudden change in the amount of light hitting the sensor. What appears as black could be better explained as being vastly underexposed (a.k.a. not enough light for the sensor to read).
But even if that were the case, it is my understanding that mp4 video essentially uses base frames and delta frames, and so encoding pure black frames in the middle of some dark frames actually takes more space, because instead of a delta with minor changes, you have to encode a new base frame. But hopefully there is someone here who knows more about this than I do?
She drops out of view while still turning the wheel. As for "ramming", I think the evidence seems to show there must have been contact against the minivan with his phone hand, but his feet were fairly far from the minivan at that point. There is evidence that his feet slid backwards, which can only be from some sort of contact with the minivan. But it does appear that his hips and torso are never in contact with the minivan, and his right arm is holding the gun above the hood of the minivan. Leaning against the car with his left hand or arm appears to be the only possibility.
I will note that I have seen an actual video of a car trying to ram police officers, and similar contact with the officer's arms occurred, after which the officer characterized this contact with "she almost struck me".
New video added to the synchronised timeline:
https://bskyx.app/profile/bellingcat.com/post/3mbzglg3ids24
New footage from the ICE agent's phone who shot at Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis has emerged, posted by AlphaNews on X. We've placed that footage in a synced timeline with the other currently available footage.

Another random observation: In one of the original videos, the agent is filming with his right hand, and continues to do so until out of view. By the time of the shooting, he is filming with his left hand. In the new video, you can see him switching, at around 30-32 seconds in that video, which is before he begins to move in front of the minivan.
I was interested in this because I was wondering when he placed his hand on his weapon. When his shoulder comes into view in the reverse angle (BEFORE the car changes directions or spins its wheel) it appears based on what little we can see of his arm and shoulder, that his hand is already on his weapon at that point. That is, there is no other arm and shoulder movement apparent, other than pulling the weapon.
This is sometimes someone else posted in another server. They posted a screenshot so I can unfortunately not provide a link to the original post. I do hope that interested parties will find this useful
You can see he presses the phone against his body
The synchronised timeline needs a wider crop of the CNN footage. Agent Ross has an argument with the wife for about 7 seconds standing left to his Tahoe where he also left the car in the beginning.
Only leaves that always safe spot a mere 4 to 5 seconds before shooting. only 3 of those seconds he actually walked the 360 again. 36.5 to about 39.2.
A couple pixels here are not the same colour of black
Thank you
One thing is digital cameras often auto balance for light, so if it goes from somewhere bright to somewhere dark suddenly the whole thing might look black, vs if you let it adjust for a second.
You are right. I see it now. I used the wrong brightening tool (xv) to try to bring out differences. Should used imagemagick
magick /tmp/vlcsnap-2026-01-09-15h31m49s999.png -level 0%,2% /tmp/mapped1.png
If the synced video is exactly synced, then he has 100% drawn his weapon before he exclaims "whoa" from being startled by what I presume to be forward car motion.
Strength in Numbers-piece on the current public opinion about ICE: It has shifted quite heavily against ICE in Trump 2. HIghlights include:
Record high of Americans agree to abolish ICE
The 8-point gap between the share of Americans who want to abolish ICE and the share that wants to keep it is the smallest on record. Even in 2020, the gap between the “yes, abolish ICE” and “do, don’t” camps was 17 points. We are at peak abolish ICE, in other words.
And: More than 50 % of all Americans view the current ICE tactics as "too forceful"
Also note that most of those numbers are from before the Minneapolis shooting
Can we state that Becca Good yells "Drive, drive" in response to Agent Ross pulling out his gun? Is that kind of granularity possible here?
i think that would be in response to the audible "get out of the car, get out of the car, get out of the fucking car" from the other 2 agents
"Drive, baby, drive, drive"
As for what led her to say it, 🤷♂️
i mean, would you want your loved one to get dragged out of their car by the feds when they could just leave?
I mean. yeah, I just mean I don't know if she said it because she saw a gun or not
We can't speculate on what's in anyone's head.
true that, just it's not an unreasonable thing for her to say in that situation is all
OK, better way to state it: is Agent Ross pulling out his gun before the statement "Drive, drive" is heard?
Is that one of the options for Becca to be reacting to?
by the way, do you know if NYT is working on an analysis of the shooter's video?
really? I haven't seen other like, frame-by-frame video analyses I mean, mostly just reuploads and text descriptions of the clips
besides the one made by people here
...you know, someone should do some math
we had a rough distance from shooter to car already, and that can be further refined with the shooter's own video. i'm not a car girl but the model of car would be trivial to find even if the shooter didn't videotape all around it including the back. we know how much that model of car weighs, how fast it accelerates, etc
or when he slips?
You could probably do an approximate 3D recreation based on all the videos we currently have. Pretty accurate for the vehicle position and movement. Less accurate for the people. I think you could get the shooters feet fairly accurately though.
it should be possible to find the highest possible impact force that car could reach in the time frame
I don't think this is a random observation. It is relevant that he switched which hand was holding the phone.
When I was in high school, I saw a staff member who was directing traffic get hit by a car (a student as it turns out) in a very low speed collision. As in, the car was waiting and moved forward because the student's foot slipped. It didn't look serious, the car bumped him and he fell, but he ended up with a broken hip. If a slow-moving car actually impacts your body, it can still do some damage, because it just doesn't yield to you at all.
that guy fell though, the bulk of the impact was in the fall, while our guy did not
A reminder that the view of the camera is not nor should it be construed as the view of the camera operator. Just because something is visible in the footage does not mean that the officer saw it too.
question: what is Becca Good saying in the shooter's clip? "US citizen, former [?]"
Just curious how many people here noticed the T-Rex crushing a car in the background of today's released video. Because I did not see it until someone else pointed it out. Don't say you noticed it if you had to be told.
This has some background on the sculpture:

Ice agents confront observer in Beaverton OR.

Hi guys, there's a lot of new people in this thread and this is a very heated topic. So please be extra mindful of our rules:
- Be respectful to each other
- Avoid speculation or sharing your personal opinions. This server is great because it focuses on objective open source analysis
Also, be careful about ascribing too much value to things like vehicle weight and tire angles when judging what people should have known about the situation. It's (comparatively) easy to sit in front of a computer and look at videos in slo-mo over and over again to determine exactly what impact force something would have, but in reality, this happens extremely quickly. It's literally three seconds from the time the car starts backing up, until the first shot is fired. In between it also stops, spins out, starts moving, and turns the wheels all the way from left to right. There isn't much time to do physics calculations.

It should be bigger news that masked agents were filmed hours ago removing potentially inculpatory evidence from the ICE shooter's house, clearly lacking evidence tags or chain of custody stickers.
Before we have word on whether he underwent a toxicology screen at the hospital following the killing
Welcome to Minnesota, fuckers. Also this is super disturbing because the ICE agent's assault rifle appears to fire as he falls down.
This was filmed by a friend near Chicago and Lake last night.

Yes I am outing my real name here, even though Discord is one of the extremely few places where I've been anonymous in my 38 years on the Internet. Or was. At any rate, I posted an analysis of whether or not the minivan "hit" the officer on BlueSky. Too long to copy that whole thread here. https://bsky.app/profile/thomasafine.bsky.social/post/3mc2ay2vk7d2d

So after going all the angles all day, I have to say that I now think there was at least indirect contact with his torso and the vehicle. And I think this contact was somewhere in between "completely in front of" and "completely next to".
The upshot is, there had to be contact, it almost certainly started with his left hand reaching out, but ultimately his left hand ended up pressed awkwardly against his chest. Either because the minivan pushed his arm into his chest, or because he fell forward such that his arm was bent against his chest. In any case this is either indirect or possibly direct contact between his torso and the minivan.

- it shows Good basically driving away from a verbal confrontation right before she gets shot, which contributes to the idea that this was intentional, ideological and malicious on Ross' part
- it shows that Good had backed up to make a three point turn, and was turning her car away to drive down the street, not driving it directly at Ross
- if anything, it looks like Ross is crossing over the front of her car and initiating contact in order to have a self-defense pretext to shoot her
- it shows that Ross can clearly see Good's hands on the wheel, moving the car away from him; he has plenty of time as the car is backing away to move away from its expected direction of travel after it makes the three-point turn"

This analysis of the agent's video from WUSA9 (DC) offers interesting perspective on both the video itself and Law Enforcement Training
Criminology expert Alex del Carmen analyzes new video that's surfaced from an incident in which an ICE agent shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis.
it is obvious this analysis was made in the absence of today's footage. The officer interacted with the victim and could assess her demeanor. And he could see her demeanor as she tried to drive away.
I agree there was contact and it likely started with his hand, but I think him falling forward seems more likely. It appears that from 40.13 to 4.23 his feet slip back before he could have made contact with the car, going by his phone video.
One point about the switch from right to left hand of the phone is that (from the front on surveillance video) he appears to do this just before reaching into his vehicle to get something, so this may be why he switched hands. I know this is speculation, but it shows we probably can't proscribe too much meaning to the switch.
One other thought about the 4 frames when the phone goes dark, is that looking at the two frames before and where the arm pointing the gun is in the other video, it looks like it might get obscured by his other arm as he reaches over to aim.
Unless there has been even more footage released today, they are literally showing the video that the shooter filmed.

hi, can someone please explain what the difference is between ICE agents and CBP agents? or if there’s no difference…? i see the latter around south philly from time to time— they’re uniformed and drive marked CBP vehicles as opposed to the unidentifiable ICE agents
Customs and border patrol agents deal with customs and borders, as the name suggests. That basically means ports and entry points. ICE deals with with people who have already entered the usa and investigations ect. They don't patrol the border.
They're both under DHS I believe.
so they would handle preventing entry as opposed to deporting already present migrants
That's the way it should work yes, tho I don't think there's anything stopping either one from being used in either manner.
okay. makes sense to me. i’m not near the port, it’s the same officer i saw last time. haven’t seen these guys ever before this year and i live in an area heavily populated by latin american and south asian immigrants. i’m not sure what they’d be doing over here. cool! good to know thank you for the thoughtful response!

oh yeah we do! it’s just weird this one officer has been around lately. i’ve lived here my entire life and never seen any cbp agents
he makes a point of parking illegally and going into local businesses
sorry not trying to do any speculation here!!
To answer the broader question, ICE and CPB have different responsibilities under the main remit of homeland security. CPB is responsible for monitoring human and cargo traffic as it enters the US. ICE is responsible for monitoring (mostly) the humans once they're inside the US. As such, CPB is supposed to remain at all international ports of entry and a zone within 100 miles of the land and sea borders. ICE can be anywhere.
I was just denied access to the ICE processing center at the Whipple Building.

I mean…there’s nothing inherently wrong with being a “Deportation Officer” or the like.
It’s similar to the argument people like to say “wElL oBaMa DePoRtEd MoRe”. It’s also not about the amount of people deported, it’s about the process and how it was conducted.
The policies, procedures, and admin staff make a difference in how immigration officers are viewed.
It’s like a lot of people hate the police. If they had a social Reddit group (I’m sure there’s plenty), that wouldn’t be a “bad thing” to be open about. Law Enforcement is a necessary evil to keep the yin-yang of society in balance.
But it’s how that’s conducted and you see that on the daily between different agencies, states, etc.
That’s a First Amendment violation that needs to be handled quickly. There needs to be examples made or else this is never going to get fixed. But it’s up to the states under this current admin because…well….federal can’t be trusted.

I missed the podium sign from Noem’s speech a few days ago. https://prospect.org/2026/01/08/minneapolis-ice-noem-homeland-security/
It doesn't appear that the article gives context about the text on the podium, only that it's there. Can you explain the significance of it?
It doesn’t necessarily explain. It’s just their latest propoganda. Showing an increasingly belligerent tone and threat. Posted article for details on where signage appeared.
It appears the placard was specifically for that press briefing and not something used by DHS in other contexts. The link points to the DHS "Worst of the Worst" page, which has been around for a while but the phrase is not associated with it.
Also does not appear that any reporters asked for context at the press briefing, so any ascribed meaning to it would be arising from conjecture.
I would disagree with that, but not the place to argue so will leave it at that

OK, regarding the use of Body Camera by ICE I was able to find the directive the Trump administration in February 2025, regarding body camera usage https://www.ice.gov/doclib/foia/policy/19010.3.pdf as well as the pervious policy that was put in place by the Biden administration in 2023 and came in effect on January 2024.
https://www.ice.gov/doclib/foia/policy/19010.2.pdf
Edit: Interestingly enough, the Trump Administration one is nearly identical to the one the Biden Administration issued. The only change I can spot is just the number of footnotes in the article as the 2025 version has 27, where the 2023 one has 28.
That video shows the front of the van. Would be the best angle to see Ross' position. But it cut off before that. Is the original anywhere besides Citizen?
Here's a better copy. All the versions I see cut off before shots fired. https://x.com/FOX9/status/2010233996827848843
A new video from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shows what led up to the fatal Minneapolis ICE shooting. https://t.co/l9D1y6HEuc
After she backs up, Ross is farther from the minivan than I thought. (This version clipped from a YouTube Nerd Report copy, which seems to go a split second longer than other copies, but has an annoying talking head combined in the video).
I'd also hoped to see when he placed his hand on his weapon but it's too grainy, and that darned tree.
If there's more of that video, it should be a good angle to better understand when and how he contacted the minivan.

Minneapolis: Protesters Gather in Minneapolis After Woman Shot Dead by US Immigration Agent | CNBC TV18
Already shaken by the fatal shooting of a woman by an immigration officer, Minnesota's Twin Cities on Sunday braced for what many expect will be a new normal over the next few weeks as the Department of Homeland Security carries out what it called its largest enforcement operation ever.
Protesters screamed at heavily-armed federal agents and honked car horns, banged on drums and blew whistles in attempts to disrupt their operations in one Minneapolis neighborhood filled with single-family homes. There was some pushing and several people were sprayed with chemical spray just before agents forced entry of one home on Sunday.
They later took one man away in handcuffs.
A woman came out of the home who said the man in handcuffs was her husband. She said they were told that he had an "order of removal."

overview of Whipple building protest Jan 11
At 1 p.m., the far-right agitator Jake Lang appeared with an entourage, blasting Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby.” Lang held up a hand-written sign reading “We [heart] ICE” and a large, heart-shaped Valentine’s Day balloon. [Lang was jailed for attacking police on January 6, 2021 and last November tried to burn a Quran in Dearborn, Michigan, and described people of color as “chimps” according to the Guardian.]
“This is what it means to stand for your nation,” Lang shouted into his megaphone as reporters flocked around them. DHS officers met the commotion by firing pepper balls into the crowd to disperse it, firing wildly along the road to create a perimeter.
As the agents pushed back the crowd of protesters, they left Lang and his entourage untouched behind them to wave their flags and gloat over the crowd. As the crowd writhed in the fumes, a flashbang exploded.
“We have a right to defend our country from these mongrel invaders,” Lang shouted, DHS agents looming behind him. “All they want to do is come here and get on social welfare, steal our money, take our jobs and rape our women.”

The gun is out of the holster, in his hand. (Which seems kinda dangerous when wobbling around on a slippery surface.)
Thousands took to the streets to protest a masked federal officer’s point-blank shooting Wednesday of a 37-year-old woman in Minnesota. As they did, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials didn’t address allegations of persistent violence by officers in Ohio.
One, a supervisor, has been charged after dozens of police calls alleging domestic violence against his much younger, noncitizen partner. Another was convicted of forcing a vulnerable immigrant to have sex with him.
ICE’s regional media office was asked by the Ohio Capital Journal more than two weeks ago whether it knew the supervisor’s history, but after asking for more time to respond, has not yet responded.
Multiple people released from Whipple told independent journalists that they’d been verbally or physically abused in or en route to detention there. Two said agents used demeaning language to describe Good and suggested she’d deserved her fate.
The Reformer has not independently verified the Whipple detainees’ claims. In a separate video posted on Sunday by a Minneapolis Reddit user, an ICE agent tells a driver to “[g]o home to your children…have you not learned from what just happened?”
Federal immigration authorities intensified a weekslong operation in the Twin Cities over the weekend following the Wednesday killing of Renee Nicole Good by ICE agent Jonathan Ross. Residents pushed back, led by a growing network of rapid responders hounding U.S. ICE and Border Patrol vehicles and agents across the metro area. Thousands marched...
Well, yellow light.
Greg Bovino has officially kicked off door-to-door raids. ICE/CBP goons are seen blocking an entire block, while Bovino and his Gestapo personally go door-to-door. (St. Paul, MN. January 11, 2026)

Hi, I don't know exactly what the limit is, but that might very well be it. Try limiting it to four per post
Geolocated to 44.948194, -93.265278, intersection of Park Av and E Lake St, Minneapolis, MN, USA. Both cars then turn west onto E Lake St. The rear car and the filming car turn north onto 4th Ave S while the front car continues west. Claimed that the rear car belongs to ICE, but no visible indication that it actually belongs to any organization.

another piece advocating for ICE abolition
We are far past the stage of permissiveness with white-supremacist violence inside DHS. We are at the stage of active, enthusiastic commission of it.
ICE and its sister agency, Customs and Border Protection, mean to inflict terror upon nonwhites, regardless of citizenship status, and to remove them from the country. Their ambitions do not stop there. The murder of Renee "Dude, I'm not mad at you" Good by the ICE agent Jonathan "fucking bitch" Ross shows that they view anyone who even slightly resists them as their enemy. These agencies, created and shaped by the War on Terror, recapitulate the prevailing right-wing sentiment after 9/11 that the institutions and political forces that do or could restrain the War on Terror are themselves complicit in terrorism.

The civil rights division of the Justice Department, which has investigated law enforcement officials for killing or injuring citizens in the past, has not opened an investigation into whether the agent violated Ms. Good’s rights under federal law, according to a federal law enforcement official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. The official added that the division was not expected to initiate a case.

NYC City Council Speaker, NYC Mayor, and NY Governor all pushing for release of City Council staffer who was detained at a routine court appearance this afternoon

in case anyone’s unfamiliar, the Nassau county executive (Bruce Blakeman) provides some revealing context about the region's politics:
As the county executive, Blakeman has pushed through a policy that bans transgender athletes from using county sports facilities, created a volunteer law enforcement unit that his critics have labeled a militia and directed county detectives to work alongside federal authorities in Trump’s immigration crackdown.
Nassau’s first Jewish county executive, he also signed a local ban on wearing face masks in public except for health or religious reasons, a measure that critics complain is aimed at cracking down on pro-Palestine demonstrations.
Blakeman cruised to victory in his election to a second term in November.

In a three-page letter sent Monday to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi and obtained by CBS News, the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee has requested all "records, documents, memos, and internal communications regarding the solicitation and hiring of anyone charged or investigated for actions in connection to the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol."
...
It's also not clear if ICE has hired any Jan. 6 defendants. But the agency is engaging in a rapid hiring spree, funded by a $75 billion funding boost passed by Congress last year that could allow ICE to add thousands of agents. And the Democrats' letter noted that other pardoned riot defendants or members of the crowd on Capitol grounds on Jan. 6 have already joined the administration.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat and the judiciary panel's ranking member, said it is possible riot defendants would go unrecognized while serving as immigration agents.
Boehler said state law has pretty tight restrictions on how private data can be used. State and local governments contract with a company called Flock to store and access private citizen data. Flock insists that it does not have a contract with ICE and said the data is only shared with local government cooperation. 404 Media reported this spring that some local law enforcement agencies were giving ICE access to citizens’ private data, with leaked data showing thousands of searches done at the behest of federal authorities.
Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services said in a statement that they don’t provide ICE access to citizens’ private data.

What are we to make of all this? To be clear, I barely applied to ICE. I skipped the steps of the application process that would have clued the agency in on my lack of fitness for the position. I made no effort to hide my public loathing of the agency, what it stands for, and the administration that runs it. And they offered me the job anyway.

But if they missed the fact that I was an anti-ICE journalist who didn’t fill out her paperwork, what else might they be missing? How many convicted domestic abusers are being given guns and sent into other people’s homes? How many people with ties to white supremacist organizations are indiscriminately targeting minorities on principle, regardless of immigration status? How many rapists and pedophiles are working in ICE detention centers with direct and unsupervised access to a population that will be neither believed nor missed? How are we to trust ICE’s allegedly thorough investigations of the people they detain and deport when they can’t even keep their HR paperwork straight? And if they’re not going to screen me out, what hope is there of figuring out which recruit might one day turn into a trigger-happy agent who would forget that law enforcement officers are trained not to stand in front of vehicles, get jumpy, and shoot a 37-year-old woman to death on the streets of Minneapolis?

Oddly enough, the "spotters" are reminding me of the plainclothes operatives in the South Korea's 1980 Gwangju Massacre. The difference would be that the plainclothes operatives would be from the military and their roles would also involve arresting protest leaders and disrupting protests from within in addition to surveillance work.

On Wednesday, a judge for the US District Court of the Northern District of California will hear DHS’s argument in a case that — though unrelated — could have repercussions for groups that have filmed and uploaded sightings of officers on social media over the last year.
The agency wants Meta to hand over the personal information of whoever runs Montco Community Watch, an anonymous Instagram account that posts sightings of ICE agents and arrests in Pennsylvania.
DHS argues that the account’s posts threaten to impede ICE enforcements. The anonymous Meta user is challenging the request as an assault on the First Amendment.
Advocates are watching the case closely, as it could determine the future for many more anonymous social media accounts documenting law enforcement officers.

The latter part of this tweet has gone under the radar but it's an alarming escalation. The Trump admin has already detained dozens of people with full refugee status, seemingly those who had not yet adjusted to green cards, and is detaining them in Texas and seeking to strip them of their status.

This is happening because of "Operation PARRIS," which USCIS announced on Friday and is part of the "review" process that the Trump admin announced in December.
There is a LOT we don't know about this, but so far we have multiple reports of people with refugee status detained and sent to Texas.

The refugees arrested through this program are in the country legally. They entered as refugees, having been fully screened and vetted and on a path to a green card already.
Now the Trump admin is detaining an unknown number; USCIS says they may be targeting as many as 5,600 people.

A deadline of Monday, Jan. 19 was set for the federal government to reply to the lawsuit, with a response from the state required three days later on Thursday, Jan. 22.

Looking at the CBS post as someone who has close family who worked in a hospitals, the language used doesn't look like it came from a medical professional. 'Suffered internal injuries as a result of a blow to the torso' is the language I would expect from a medical professional because it describes the medical condition. You don't suffer internal bleeding to the torso, you suffer an impact or some other event to the torso that leads to internal bleeding. You can also be suffering from internal bleeding in the torso but not to it. Maybe I'm just being a grammar nerd but it jumped out at me having heard lots of authentic medical language in my lifetime
The CBS post is vague enough on multiple points that it's naturally leading to speculation. We should, in the interest of the channel, avoid the speculation.
it would be great to find a way to prove/disprove the claims, but I can't think of any way to do that.

But it's not a communication from a medical professional directly. Per the Twitter post, the chain of discussion is medical professional who is speaking (not writing a report to colleagues) to laypeople (the US officials briefed) > to the CBS reporter > to the social media person writing the tweet
It's still not something I've ever heard said that way. To make it understandable to the public just say he was injured and is bleeding internally. That's something that sounds familiar
I think the whole thing hinges on the swap of "in' and "to" and I just can't get on board with any major suspicion about the language
Practically all individuals familiar with the injuries directly and have a medial background are likely prohibted from discussing the matter due to HIPAA protections.
I'm not saying anybody should be suspicious of anything I'm just saying it sounds wrong to an ear trained to medical professionals
My ear is too, and I say it's not, so we're at an impasse 🙂

One of the officials and another person familiar with the JAG Corps told CNN that 25 JAGs is a huge number to send to one city. But it’s increasingly being done in cities the Trump administration is targeting with increased federal crackdowns on crime and immigration.
In Latin America, a big step in 1980s/90s transitions from military dictatorship to civilian rule was to stop trying civilians in military courtrooms.
This isn’t exactly that, but having civilians prosecuted by people in uniform is a big step toward Latin America's "bad old days"—here in the US.

Mercado livestream, apparently Minneapolis police have been suppressing civilians. there's a smashed car showing now “a couple ICE vehicles got ransacked” https://youtu.be/2l5GY9ZQRk0
protesters seem to have arrived in large enough numbers that ICE agents fled and abandoned vehicles, leaving a substantial number of papers behind (and at least one agent's challege coins, some IDs, etc). a protester came up and showed them all to Mercado, who got them on camera
they're wrapping up now. it's likely a number of packets of ICE operational plans for the Minneapolis operation, names & particulars of agents & judges associated with it, etc. will be being made public soon

Is there any discussion here about the claimed DHS "whistleblower" leak of ICE personnel? Or the claim that Enrique Tarrio is now an ICE agent?
There is a post on X/Twitter from Tarrio implying that the reports are accurate.
I did do a search. All I found were some old alleged DHS leaks from late 2022 claimed to connect to militias. Those reports also seemed sus and I don't see any independent verification of them.
OK but that also could just be him trolling.
To clarify when I said I did a search, I meant here, of the various Bellingcat discussions.

Immigration Officers Descend on [Louisiana] Meta Data Center, Arrest Drivers
A witness, who asked to remain anonymous speaking about the enforcement activities, said unmarked vehicles arrived at the perimeter of the construction site in Holly Ridge, a town within Richland Parish, earlier Wednesday.
ICE responded due to a request from local law enforcement about undocumented workers, a person familiar with the situation said. The person declined to be named to freely discuss a sensitive situation.
The Richland Parish Sherrif’s Office confirmed to Bloomberg News that the ICE agents were checking the identification of workers’ en route to the construction site. The two arrested individuals were from Guatemala and Honduras, said the sherrif’s office, which assisted with traffic stops involving the dump trucks.

well, utm_source=gift is just a URL key-value pair, essentially the same as the v=[id] on a youtube video
The difference is, on YouTube, Google is only interested in tracking who shared what was whom. The UTM here is interested in tracking whether an article is accessible via payment or gifting. Due to the purpose of this particular UTM tracker using source=gift I still seriously doubt it would work. I have no intention of trying it myself as I feel it would be unethical so this is the best answer I can give
the link works without the utm query parameter https://www.startribune.com/how-ice-numbers-compare-to-twin-cities-largest-police-forces/601562617 so in this case it's not unlocking it

There are signs beyond Trump’s rhetoric that the administration may be seeking to replicate the Minnesota playbook. Benny Johnson, a pro-Trump creator and Turning Point USA contributor, traveled to Los Angeles in recent days to pursue his own “fraud investigation.” So far, Johnson’s content has focused on California homelessness, suggesting that the state mismanaged funds to combat the issue. Mehmet Oz, the former talk show host and current administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, traveled to Los Angeles last week as well, promising to target fraud himself, and to examine what he believes to be foreign gangs misusing funds for federal hospice programs. On Wednesday, Oz announced that CMS would be withholding around $300 million from California, accusing the state of using “federal Medicaid funds on non-emergency health care for illegals.”
Update on man Mauricio Serrano taken at gas station in MN that people were concerned had died. Posting text from family’s GoFund me but link to another post. Update is stated to be from his sister:
“Multiple videos from different angles document the events during his arrest. In the video's, agents can be seen surrounding his vehicle and giving him only a few seconds to exit before breaking his window. As the situation worsened, Mauricio was forcibly dragged from the car, taken to the ground, and physically restrained by several agents at once. During this process, he lost consciousness with the agents on top of him. He was then brutally dragged and handled while unable to move or respond. Videos show visible wounds on his face and chest during the incident.
Mauricio was able to speak briefly with his sister on January 13th around 11:00 AM, confirming that he is alive but injured. He said he is suffering significant pain, including injury to his leg that had recently he had surgery done on. According to Mauricio, his condition was not medically evaluated following the incident, and he has not yet received medical attention for his injuries.”

Disabled US veteran harassed by ICE for observing — reported by Ms. Magazine https://www.threads.com/@ms_magazine/post/DTjBEf7Cl1U
I think I have something that adds to your (already very solid) analysis and makes it ~airtight that he couldn't have been hit in the torso/pelvis/legs at the point his feet are pushed backwards, and 100% airtight if we could get some bounding on the distance he was from the vehicle when she went from R to D (assuming it's the ~4ft it looks to be).
Honda Pilot wheels, fully inflated, have a diameter (depending on exact type) of ~29" to ~30", which means one rotation of the back tires = ~7.6'-7.85'. From the time Ross starts drawing his gun to the time his feet get pushed back, the back wheel of the Pilot travels almost exactly 1/4 rotation, which is ~1.90'-1.96'.
assuming 4 feet and accelerating at full ability, it was moving 5.5 mph at point of impact.
velocity = 2 (acceleration) (distance)
What I'm saying is that it only moves ~2ft before the impact, which means the impact was with his hand braced on the hood and not with his torso/pelvis/legs.

I don't mean to brag or anything, but this almost EXACTLY matches my analysis from <checks notes> SIX DAYS AGO. The third day of the incident: https://bsky.app/profile/thomasafine.bsky.social/post/3mc2ay2vk7d2d
And I pointed out the importance of the leaning, as evidence he stepped back from the vehicle, on day one of the incident here:
https://bsky.app/profile/thomasafine.bsky.social/post/3mbug7r4ww22b
Also, in the video they suggest the phone flips over when his hand lands on the vehicle, but if you are filming using the rear camera (as he was), you would naturally turn your phone as you placed your hand on something like the hood of the car. The distant video that showed the leaning is better quality and shows more clearly that he placed his hand on the car first, possibly while slipping. I also think the 6th video that shows him a few feet from the front of the car before the car moves forward, shows that he is already drawing his gun before the wheel spin.
And this is exactly what I said. My video from down the street was much lower quality than theirs. So my analysis leaned more heavily on the path that his cell phone had to take to capture the frames it captured, relative to both his body and the front of the car. In the early frames he naturally turned the phone to his left to lean on the hood (and film across the front end of the car, also roughly establishing his hand position). And in later frames for his hand to be against his body while leaning, his hand must have been pushed to his chest (and in an awkward hand-facing-out position).
While I was guessing based on more blurry down-the-street footage, the NYT's much sharper down-the-street footage confirms all of my conclusions.
(I guess I should have taken that blurry video and shouted "ENHANCE" at my computer like six times in a row. 🤣 )
I don't think his hand would have been in an awkward hand-facing-out position, if you try it yourself it would have been palm facing towards the car.
I would like to point out that the agent leaned into the oncoming car to brace themself for impact. I take this as a normal human reaction to a thing coming at you. I and others i have seen outstretch their hands and prepare their body to be hit.
I believe had they kept walking and not stopped to brace and draw the weapon, that they would have been clear of the vehicle.
Yes but he was filming from the back camera. Screen towards him, filming lens consistent with the back of his hand. So for that camera view to end up pressed against his chest, his hand had to be facing outward when it was pressed to his chest.
I did like ten simulations of this in my basement trying to get framings consistent with what he got. Using our coffee table as the car hood.
I pointed out in a different thread that an example video of an actual officer ramming showed an officer doing exactly this to dodge the car, touching the hood with both hands, after which he radioed in "She almost struck me". ALMOST.
Ah sorry, misunderstood what you meant by out, I thought you meant twisted right round. I don't think it would have been a particularly awkward position.
Yes, it's not very threatening at those speeds unless you go under the car.
What do you think about the timing of the drawing of his gun, with that new video to reference?
4 foot distance, maximum acceleration (which might not be the case), the impact speed is 5.5 miles per hour.
I think the most natural position if you move your hand towards your chest is palm inward. But in this position he would not have filmed his face and neck, and then blocked the camera with his chest.
Yeah, but if your hand is already palm out to meet an incoming object, the phone points upwards.
Yes, but still not too awkward and his hand could have been slightly to the left of his chest, it is the phone camera that is definitely pressed against him.
Let's not make that mistake though, a 5mph collision with a car can cause significant bodily harm, because cars have a lot of momentum and don't yeild to bodies that much. IF that was direct. But all angles make it clear he was moving out of the way, and to whatever degree there was something you could call "impact", it was either indirect or nonexistent.
meeting an incoming object shares reflexes with falling. Similar methods of outreaching hand to absorb impact force and lessen impact when the object finally meets the body.
I'm assuming immovable object. The hood and bumper flex very slightly.
Humans tend to wrap around the front of vehicles and deform to them, which absorbs some force.
I witnessed a very slow speed collision with a person and a car when I was in high school, and the person's hip was broken. But to be fair, cars were a lot harder and less yielding back then. You could stand on the hood of some cars without it flexing.
Humans are very odd in how they take damage. You can be fine or break a hip from tripping. You can survive 7 bullet wounds or die from 1.
Also that the agent is walking under their own power doesn't mean they were not hurt. They are likely on a lot of adrenaline and may not notice injuries they have. When thinking about it, it should be "no apparent injury" not "no injury".
For me, being very sanitary about what language I use to think of things helps me stay objective. Sorry for the rambly bits. This has been going around in my head for a few days now.
What do you think about the timing of the drawing of his gun, with that new video to reference?
It was clear from video days ago that the drawing of his gun happened after the forward wheel spin, in a time frame where it could have been a reaction to that (IF he could see or feel that), but that the drawing happened after visible forward motion in a time frame that was too short for drawing the weapon to be a reaction to forward movement. But there is also the possibility he could see her shifting gears before all of that (in which case he could also see her steering away from him).
I think that new video shows he is drawing the gun just before the wheel spin or at least at the same time, so i don't think it could have been a reaction to that.
By "new video" do you mean the newer sharper version of the down-the-street angle used by NYT, or is there yet another new video that I haven't seen yet?
There is a sixth video, that wasn't in the original sync we had then. It shows a high view from the driver's side of the car, with Ross in front. It cuts off as he draws his gun.
It's shown starting about 3:26 for the NYT piece.
they're talking about this one -- came out last Friday or Saturday but hasn't gotten much attention (except by the people looking to say she was blocking traffic) because it ends right about when he moves his right hand towards the gun.
https://x.com/GrageDustin/status/2010037103665787019
Oh that one really annoyed me, because it is very blurry and as you said it cuts off right before anything useful could be determined. Which is interesting because (I believe) people traced this back to DHS releasing it, with the claim that it proved that Good was being disruptive.
The NYT version is a bit clearer.
🚨 BREAKING: Was just sent a video showing the moments before the shooting.
︀︀
︀︀In it, you can clearly see Renee Good’s vehicle blocking ICE agents for over 3 minutes as she’s dancing to her own car horn.
︀︀
︀︀Kinda ruins some narratives, doesn’t it?
Yes it is, but there's no indication their version goes on longer than the initially released version. That is, they don't show the possible collision from that angle.
No, but it shows his hand has gone to his gun before the wheel spin and possibly already started a movement to draw.
^ which I believe makes the last frames our best picture for estimating the distance between Ross and the vehicle, which is relevant for showing (if any remain unconvinced by the video analysis) that his feet moving is from his bracing on the car rather than him being hit.
I think it shows his feet slip back initially as he draws, before he puts his hand on the hood.
4:08 on the NYT video.
When he steps back and apparently slips is when you can here him go "whoa", followed by the thud as his phone hits the hood.
While I think this is true (placing the hand on the gun), I think even this newer version is too blurry to say for sure conclusively when he puts his hand on his gun.
I don't see any indication of drawing the weapon any earlier than we already knew. Resting the hand on the weapon ahead of time could arguably be a factor (as could his decision to free up his gun hand before walking in front of the vehicle) but again it's so blurry that there's no strong evidence there.
A reminder from the moderation team that users are able to start discussion threads if they see a good use for one. The details of Renee Good's death are interesting, though one specific instance in a wider ICE operation both in Minnesota and nationally. Having a place where members can dive into the latest disclosures on her death would be a justified rationale for a user-initiated discussion.

A federal judge issued a nationwide (technically a national class) “declaratory” judgment that the Trump administration’s mandatory detention policy is unlawful. The Trump administration’s response has been to say that it is not bound by the ruling and the judge can go pound sand.

This is particularly noteworthy right now, as the agency is already quite understaffed and losing people to ICE.
By the end of last year, the agency lost a net of more than 1700 employees, wiping out all of their hiring gains from the year before:

What the judge ordered—effective immediately:

The body of the segment is essentially identical. I generated a text transcription just in advance from my Dec 22 file, and it predicted what was just aired tonight at January 18, ~~covering ~~ additionally matching all the camera footage from Venezuelans deboarding the plane, to mentions of other arrangements with South Sudan & Uganda.
What did substantively change was the opening segment in the 60 Minutes studio, now heavily mentioning Nicolas Maduro, and an ending stinger in the 60 Minutes studio not present in the Dec 22 file before commercial break, where they discuss ongoing requests & conversations to DHS for comment

Ms. Goodwin was one of several legal scholars and criminal justice experts who said the conduct of ICE agents during Operation Metro Surge, the government’s name for its immigration crackdown in Minneapolis, evoked the attacks by police officers in Birmingham, Ala., on civil rights protesters in 1963.
David Rudovsky, a University of Pennsylvania law professor, also noted the similarities. “I think about the civil rights movement in the South and how Southern law enforcement reacted with hoses, dogs and lynchings,” he said.
Images of Birmingham’s police dogs sinking their teeth into protesters shocked the world. The aggressive conduct of federal agents in Minneapolis has also raised alarm, particularly following the shooting death of Ms. Good.

Newly obtained videos of the moments right after the Wednesday incident in which an Immigration and Custom Enforcement agent shot a Venezuelan man in the leg for allegedly assaulting an officer in Minneapolis appear to contradict at least some of ICE’s claims about events leading up to the shooting.
Sunday, at least 7 ICE agents stormed a house and took an elderly man out into the freezing cold, wearing only his underwear and a blanket.
He was a member of the Hmong community, which came to the area from Laos in the 1970s after siding with the US in the Vietnam War.

This time, a reporter went to a Border Patrol recruiting event in Florida on January 13, 2026
https://www.cltampa.com/news/at-st-pete-recruitment-event-border-patrol-rep-touts-qualified-immunity-and-early-retirement/
After creating an account, the recruiter opened up an AI resume-generating website called livecareer.com. The previous applicant’s “work experience” page was still open; they used AI to generate a description for their nightclub bouncer job. I was directed to erase that and do the same with my own previous experience as a software engineer. “Make it sound as fancy as possible,” the recruiter said.
After entering my former job title, a menu appeared with about 65 suggested job responsibilities, like “Mentored junior developers, sharing knowledge and expertise to support their professional growth and development within team.” When I clicked one, a bullet point was added to a “job description” field containing that text. “Click everything,” the recruiter said.

Over the course of the last year, executive orders on gender and diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility banned the use of certain words. As a result, federal departments and some advocacy groups that cater to marginalized populations removed these words from information in their grant applications and on their websites.
“I’m writing something now and I’ve got seven configurations of the word gender that can’t be used in a grant application,” said Dr. Earl Smith, a professor of women and gender studies at the University of Delaware.
West stated that the lagging research and support for data create a vicious cycle: without updated data, it becomes impossible to show there is a problem, she said.
“It’s almost like a willful ignorance,” West said. “If we can not collect the data, if we defund all these programs, and if nobody’s counting, then there’s the gaslighting that says, ‘Well, there’s no data to say there’s a problem.’”

A disabled Minnesota woman who was dragged from her car by ICE agents last week told CNN's Laura Coates she was on her way to a doctor's appointment when she was detained. She said her treatment in custody was "dehumanizing" and that officers failed to take her disability seriously.
CNN has reached out to DHS for response to Rahman's comments.
We added this to Monday's live blog too, but in case you missed it, it's looking like Thursday could bring the visit of a high-ranking government official to the Twin Cities, with the FAA issuing "VIP Movement Notification."
There's no confirmation yet on who that will be, but the same notice was issued for Minneapolis on Sept. 3, 2025, when vice president JD Vance arrived in the Twin Cities to visit the site of the Annunciation School shooting.
https://www.404media.co/feds-create-drone-no-fly-zone-that-would-stop-people-filming-ice/
The order is particularly notable because it does not apply just to static locations like DHS offices, but also to “vessels and ground vehicle convoys and their associated escorts.” The notice classifies areas within 3,000 feet horizontally and up to 1,000 feet of altitude as no fly zones and as “national defense airspace,” meaning the skies up to a half mile from ICE vehicles in Minneapolis, for example, could fall under this new jurisdiction. The notice states that people who violate the restrictions can be charged criminally, could face civil penalties, and may lose their authority to fly drones in the future.
This doesn't really hold up to scrutiny because I have yet to see drones used to record DHS activities. Are there any examples of drones used this way?
obvs anecdotal but there have been a Lot of new non hobbyist drone sightings here, can look for local news sources in a bit here
I think all the ones in Aaron's Bluesky post are not drones
The article doesn't say it has happened, but that this would prevent it from happening (legally).
More broadly it gives DOD, DOE, and DHS the authority to take the drone down and pursue the owner regardless of the intent. If anything my quibble is that 404 brought up filming when it doesn't appear to have happened yet and the NOTAM makes no mention of it.
The court ruled that in the [22] states that sued [the Trump administration to block information sharing between ICE and Medicaid], ICE is not allowed to collect information about lawful permanent residents or citizens, nor records about sensitive health information. In the 28 states that didn’t sue, however, the court did not place any limits on the Medicaid information ICE can access.

The Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act — signed into law in 2024 — gives Minnesota residents the right to tell companies “no” when it comes to selling their data or using it for profiling and targeted advertising. The problem is that even with the help of the legislation, the data market has become too vast and opaque for the average person to rein in their information.
...
To use the new Minnesota data privacy law, people need to reach out to companies, such as data brokers, to request that their information be deleted and not sold to a third party. This is difficult for people who are unfamiliar with the expansive and elusive web of data brokerages that gather and profit off of millions of peoples’ data every day — including those with ICE contracts.People often do not know when their data is being collected, used and sold for profit; the Minnesota law was designed to give people more agency in how their information is used.
The Minnesota law is unlikely to completely delete a person’s personal data from all sources, but it provides an avenue to ensure at least one company doesn’t use their information.
...
The process is wonky, and Minnesota lawmakers, who convene for the 2026 session next month, would need to act if they wanted to make it easier for everyday Minnesotans to utilize this law.The Attorney General has a Q&A and forms on its site that you can use as templates for requests to companies.
As U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement steps up the use of digital surveillance to track immigrants and citizens alike, Minnesotans can use a new, little-known law to push back. The Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act — signed into law in 2024 — gives Minnesota residents the right to tell companies “no” when it comes to […]

Video shows ICE agent enter St. Paul restaurant with gun drawn during street search
...
The scene was captured by the owners of East Side Thai at 879 Payne St. on Monday, when a team of ICE agents appear to be searching for a civilian. The suspected civilian in question is seen running past the front of the restaurant, with an unmarked SUV pulling up seconds later.
The agent appears not to have noticed the male run past, and instead enters the restaurant with his handgun already drawn.
Unintentional compliment?

I am looking on a small phone screen, granted, but I recall messages in Minnie Reddit and FB groups about how dronea were noted at low altitude and moving in a grid like pattern. The only use case I am aware of for drones like that, is lidar or synthetic aperture radar, to create very precise 3D terrain or structure maps. Those are mature technologies and have been used for ages (especially the former), often in agriculture, construction, and demolition.
Not saying this to speculate for the sake of it. Rather; I think it might be useful in revealing it's purpose. I would be interested to see if the Palantir-made apps for ICE, or perhaps intel agents are given, can or do display detailed area maps prior to on the ground operations
https://archive.is/ufsCO here is one example of a Minnie resident mentioning such drone flight patterns
Do we have any evidence at all they are drones and not planes?
none that I've seen. They all seem like helicopters/manned aircraft to me
New— An American citizen boarding flight from Boston to Lisbon just now told me after showing boarding pass, every passenger stopped on jetway by two ICE agents demanding to take their photo. When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.

Hi, all. I’m a longtime Minneapolis resident - but bellingcat server newbie. I’ve been following this channel for the last week to orient myself to the big picture… thank you for doing this work! 🙏
I am writing to help answer the drone question - they’re clearly drones based on street-level sightings. The reply I’m sharing here was posted in a neighborhood Facebook group early last week already. It’s cropped tightly for privacy/safety.
Lmk if verification is needed.
Links are expected, yes, specifically to sources. Ideally they're geolocatable videos with audio that corroborates the belief that the videos show drones.
Ok, thanks. The drone post is in a private group, so I think maybe just disregard (or lmk if I should delete?).
Sometimes videos are available even if someone isn't in a private group. Also videos tend to spread around to other platforms, so a private FB video may end up on TikTok and be visible to everyone.
If you think it'd be helpful, you can contact the moderation team by sending a DM to @lyric root.
Thank you! I sincerely appreciate the guidance.

The memo says ICE officers can forcibly enter homes and arrest immigrants using just a signed administrative warrant known as an I-205 if they have a final order of removal issued by an immigration judge, the Board of Immigration Appeals or a district judge or magistrate judge.
The memo says officers must first knock on the door and share who they are and why they’re at the residence. They’re limited in the hours they can go into the home — after 6 a.m. and before 10 p.m. The people inside must be given a “reasonable chance to act lawfully.” But if that doesn’t work, the memo says, they can use force to go in.
“Should the alien refuse admittance, ICE officers and agents should use only a necessary and reasonable amount of force to enter the alien’s residence, following proper notification of the officer or agent’s authority and intent to enter,” the memo reads.
The memo is addressed to all ICE personnel. But it has been shown only to “select DHS officials” who then shared it with some employees who were told to read it and return it, Whistleblower Aid wrote in the disclosure.

The more difficult question, as in so many of these cases, is one of intent. Prosecutors must prove the agent’s thinking and motivation. To this end, there is evidence that Agent Ross did not view Ms. Good as an imminent physical threat.
...
Based on my experience, further investigation should build on the early indications of Agent Ross’s intent. That issue will almost certainly boil down to whether evidence shows the agent actually did fear for his (or others’) safety, or whether he unlawfully acted out of anger, in retaliation, or to stop Ms. Good as she drove away. On the last point: to the extent Agent Ross was taught even the most basic law governing uses of force, he was likely told that the use of deadly force to prevent someone who poses no immediate threat from escaping is constitutionally unreasonable. Tennessee v. Garner, 471 U.S. 1, 11 (1985).
What specifically would investigators look for? Several categories of evidence are relevant here, and the list below is far from exhaustive:
Radio traffic and witness accounts that might capture, in real time, how Agent Ross experienced the incident and in particular any comments he made before, during, and after the shooting that could provide a window into his mindset; Medical records for Agent Ross, which, in addition to bearing on allegations that Ross was hit by Ms. Good’s vehicle and suffered internal bleeding, may contain the agent’s account of whether and how he received any injuries; Witness accounts, particularly from other agents on the scene who experienced the incident from a similar vantage point and who could speak to whether they viewed Ms. Good as a physical threat; Routine incident and use-of-force reports from Agent Ross and others containing their accounts of the shooting, which could reveal inconsistencies between early and later accounts; Training records, to determine whether Agent Ross’s actions were consistent with or in contravention of how he was taught and trained; and Other personnel records to identify prior uses of force or displays of his firearm and any resulting remediation or discipline that might have put Agent Ross on notice about unlawful force.

Q: A school district alleges ICE agents detained a 5 year old after preschool. Are you proud of how you're conducting this immigration crackdown?
JD VANCE: The 5 year old was not arrested. His dad was an illegal alien. So the story is that ICE detained a 5 year old -- what are they supposed to do?

This is 100% FALSE. Immigration judges do NOT play any role in issuing administrative warrants. They are generated and signed by ICE officers themselves. ICE’s own training materials say they can’t be used for a search of a home!

ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment and has not publicized a complete list of people it has detained. The officials did not specify how many homes had been entered. But they told NBC News that the May memo followed a March 2025 opinion from the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of the General Counsel, though DHS legal opinions are not the same as settled law. Charlie Wall, recently named acting deputy director of ICE, has been tasked with implementing the policy, the officials said.
Wall then went to Los Angeles in June ahead of an immigration enforcement action there to brief officers on the new policy, the officials said. Immigration agents ramped up arrests beginning June 6, and the presence of ICE in Los Angeles touched off protests across the city.
One of the officials said the policy is now being referenced in training materials.

Decent turnout tonight at the ICE facility in Portland, Oregon. A call to action was put out after border patrol executed Alex Jeffrey Pretti in Minneapolis earlier today.
Earlier some barricades were put up against the gate where the feds typically come out from, including dumpster that got rolled over. Another door was also barricaded.
Feds have tear-gassed a few times but a ton being deployed right now. Lots of loud booms and lotssss of gas.

Had to clip the video in two parts because it's too long so check next post. This was intense. The feds were so heavy handed with munitions and intentionally aiming for heads. Countless people being treated by medics. At least one person did get hit in the head but luckily are ok.
Leading up to this people were just standing in front of the building and chanting. No cars came in or out. No arrests. Just violence for the sake of violence.

bad and intense. For me anyways. I cleaned off and took a break and remained otg for a few hours. I felt better.
Idk if it’s the adrenaline wearing off or what but I have since felt a lot worse. My skin is decontaminated, but my head is pounding, my stomach is killing me and I feel extremely nauseous.
Turns out the feds deployed HC gas tonight. (Which is not green smoke that many think it is. I have another thread on this I will link in next post)

I say this not for pity but to share experience and to help keep people better prepared and informed.
Shortly before leaving the facility I started cramping. I have been exposed to teargas many times, it typically takes me two days before exposure begins having noticeable effects on my cycle. 24 hours on munition heavy nights a few times but it’s usually two days or so for me.
I knew something felt off. I typically listen to my gut but I ignored it. I was wearing a full face gas mask. During that last wave of teargas, I was really holding it together while filming. Mostly because my eyes were burning. I took off my mask to clear my eyes after the feds retreated and after inhaling one time I couldn’t breathe. I literally couldn’t breathe. I made it to the sidewalk and was on my knees when a medic came over to help. Drinking water helped the burning feeling a little bit, as it had felt like I swallowed fire. Teargas is uncomfortable obviously but not usually *that…
thread that Alissa made to explain HC gas on July 5, 2025
https://kolektiva.social/@alissaazar/114802068549738677
Last night at ICE in Portland was another munition heavy night and lots of violence from federal agents. Teargas filled the neighborhood with canister after canister being shot. Green and white smoke continuously filled the air. Pepper balls shot at protesters close range. Masks ripped off so the feds could mace people. Someone else was hospitalized by the brutality of the federal agents yet again.
I know these nights are scary. I know how bad these munitions and chemicals hurt and burn in the moment and that the pain and side effects can be even worse later. It’s all around bad. The thing is though it’s already very bad and scary without making things up or falsely attributing certain munitions as something that they are not.
The green smoke (same with the red when they choose to use it) that they use at ICE here, which they also used plenty in 2020 and 2021, is just green smoke. When I say “just” I don’t mean to imply that it is good for our bodies in any w…

These ICE-holes are fucking animals. Here’s one running a child down like an animal and standing over his capture.
That’s someone’s child, scared and shaking in the snow, and our money is paying for this.

This is the actual directive that ICE is being taught during their 47 days of training. And this is why the woman who Mr. Alex Pretti was trying to save, was attacked FIRST by an ICE officer. It’s DHS , sec_noem President Trump who are escalating the problems in #minneapolis #kristinoem #dhs #breakingnews #democrats
We knew this was coming, but now the clock is running. From Privacy International:
"Yesterday the Trump Administration announced a proposed change in policy for travellers to the U.S. It applies to the powers of data collection by the Customs and Border Police (CBP)."
"If the proposed changes are adopted after the 60-day consultation, then millions of travellers to the U.S. will be forced to use a U.S. government mobile phone app, submit their social media from the last five years and email addresses used in the last ten years, including of family members. They’re also proposing the collection of DNA."
PI linked to and summarized a Federal Register entry describing the proposed requirements:
-All visitors must submit ‘their social media from the last 5 years’
-ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) applications will include ‘high value data fields’, ‘when feasible’
‘telephone numbers used in the last five years’

The memo exists but I could not find a copy online. It was a part of an ACLU suit last year. It is mentioned on page 33 of the case doc. https://www.aclusocal.org/app/uploads/drupal/sites/default/files/67_2025.10.16_cpt.dct_._first_amended_complaint_for_declaratory_and_injunctive_class_action.pdf
“ Since June 2025, DHS has maintained a policy, pattern, and practice of treating
photography and videorecording that documents the conduct of DHS officers in public as threats or
“doxxing” that DHS officers may appropriately respond to with force and that they may address as
crimes.
94. On June 14, 2025, DHS issued an internal bulletin titled, “Recent Anti-Law
Enforcement Tactics Used in Unlawful Civil Arrest.” That official bulletin identified “use of
cameras”, “livestreaming . . . interactions [with officers]”
, and videorecording at protests as
“unlawful civil unrest” tactics and “threats.”
The case is ongoing. Status here https://www.aclusocal.org/cases/la-press-club-v-noem/
"Federal law enforcement has brutalized demonstrators, causing disorder in a circular ploy to justify deploying military domestically against now and future protesters. But people have the right to keep protesting the violent separation of families and ICE’s terrorizing of our people," said Peter Eliasberg, chief counsel of the ACLU Foundation...

About 1,200 recruits have completed courses at ICE’s training academy, and another 3,000 have finished online training courses for new hires with previous policing experience. ICE has also brought back about 800 retirees who can earn a salary on top of their pension. These roughly 5,000 new deportation officers are considered “operational,” and have been given a badge and a gun, though some have yet to deploy due to administrative and logistical reasons. Three of the officials told me they estimate that it will likely take five or six months for the target number of new deportation officers—10,000—to be fully ready.
