The APP is attempting to gather 177,000 signatures to bring an independence petition to the legislature by May. It declined to say how many it had gathered to date.

“The overwhelming majority of Albertans are not interested in becoming a US state,” said Smith’s spokesperson. The Alberta Forever Canada campaign, a counter-petition opposing independence, received 438,568 signatures by a December deadline last year.

It makes sense when you consider Trump's rather one-dimensional approach to everything, which is brinksmanship, escalation, humiliation and then imposing terms that are just above the threshold of acceptability.
In the case of Minnesota, the protesters upping the ante and ICE's inability to handle that without creating chaos, violstions of civil liberties and killings has backfooted the administration, hence "what's wrong with you people?"
It's just sociopathy to me and when you're around it, your brain fills in the gaps with real people but there's no reason to believe he actually meant the question as a question, it was meant to be unsettling, imo ... I think everyone can't help but do that though so I dunno what to say other than post the evidence of this operating.
Based on the fact that Canada has wrongfully, illegally, and steadfastly refused to certify the Gulfstream 500, 600, 700, and 800 Jets, one of the greatest, most technologically advanced airplanes ever made, we are hereby decertifying their Bombardier Global Expresses, and all Aircraft made in Canada, until such time as Gulfstream, a Great Ameri...
Just from a quick Google, that would imply it includes the Airbus A220? Which Delta are currently operating 81 of.
https://www.airbus.com/en/about-us/our-worldwide-presence/airbus-in-americas/airbus-in-canada
Airbus is proud to be a leading member of Canada's aerospace sector. Canada is the most significant official presence of Airbus outside of Europe.
As of December 2025, the Delta Air Lines fleet consists of 987 mainline aircraft, making it the third largest commercial airline fleet in the world. Prior to its 2008 merger with Northwest Airlines, Delta mostly operated aircraft built in the United States. The merger introduced Airbus models, now the majority, into Delta’s fleet. Historically...
Airbus is European
A220 is made in Canada
Bombardier is more common in the regional jet space. If you hang out on ADS-B Exchange they're the prefix "CRJ" types

Yes. But the EO said planes made in Canada as well, which includes some models of Airbus.
There are two facilities for the A220 in Canada and one in Mobile, Alabama. See Where are A220s Made: https://www.airbus.com/en/products-services/commercial-aircraft/passenger-aircraft/a220-family

There has been a convergence of rather scary trends related to the US election process and Trump's claims of a "stolen" election in 2020.

"Graham was among eight Senate Republicans who would uniquely benefit from the provision, which allows senators to sue if their phone records were subpoenaed in a probe of Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election without their knowledge. The probe sought records of phone calls, not the contents of the calls or messages."
Trying to source this Eugene event
https://www.opb.org/article/2026/01/30/eugene-protest-general-strike-riot/
There was a massive protest yesterday evening about ICE (F- ICE if you want to search, lots on Bluesky). It was in various communities across the US but late night last night I saw several videos, photos etc specifically from Eugene, although not this image exactly.
https://dailyemerald.com/179053/features/live-updates-eugene-springfield-join-national-ice-out-protests/
seems to have had the live coverage
EPD spokesperson Melinda McLaughlin shared a statement that reads:
“The activity at the Federal Building at 211 E. 7th Avenue has been declared a riot. Please leave the area now.
There have been breaches in entry points. Some protesters breached the building and went inside. Occupants include civilian staff. Our presence is an attempt to keep things de-escalated.”
I don't want to clog this channel as it doesn't belong here but you'll find lots of troubling details if you search "Eugene riot" on social media.

Q: On ICE protests, what did you mean when you said 'people will suffer an equal or greater consequence'?

Closing the Kennedy center for repairs for two years! Of course no one will perform anyway so …

The White House Military Office Coast Guard aide was on “Football” duty tonight for Emperor Trump’s return to Washington, DC, from Palm Beach. The ~45-lb. satchel follows Trump 24/7, enabling him alone to authorize the use of any of our ~1,770 deployed nuclear weapons—up to 900 on alert—at any time.
What does that mean?
The nuclear football, officially the Presidential Emergency Satchel, is a briefcase, the contents of which are to be used by the president of the United States to communicate and authorize a nuclear attack while away from fixed command centers, such as the White House Situation Room or the Presidential Emergency Operations Center. Functioning as...
I am also wondering what this is supposed to signify. The football follows him everywhere, so how is this significant?

Does anyone have good intel on what Tulsi’s theory of the case might be? I’ve seen speculation but nothing concretely sourced.
If she has a theory, her role should be to report it to Congress; that hasn't happened.
The administration’s official line is that the DNI “has a pivotal role in election security and protecting the integrity of our elections against interference, including operations targeting voting systems, databases, and election infrastructure.”
That might sound vaguely reasonable — except as Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, explained, if Gabbard had reason to believe Georgia’s ballots had been compromised by foreign actors (a highly dubious idea, to be sure), it’d be incumbent on her to bring those concerns to the attention of Congress’ intelligence committees — which she has not done.
If she doesn’t have reason to believe Georgia’s ballots were compromised by foreign actors, then she had no business showing up at Fulton County’s election offices.
As NBC News explained, “Accompanying FBI agents on a raid is unprecedented for the chief of U.S. intelligence, whose job is to track threats from foreign adversaries. In her role overseeing the country’s spy agencies, Gabbard is prohibited by law from taking part in domestic law enforcement. Her predecessors took pains to keep their distance from Justice Department cases or partisan politics.”

The release of more than three million new documents relating to the late sex offender gives credence to claims made by senior security officials: that Epstein was working on behalf of Moscow.
I don't think I'd call it 'deeply researched', firstly because it's the Daily Mail and secondly because when you read it, it's a selection of salacious remarks not supported by citations preceded by "Jeffrey Epstein was running 'the world's largest honeytrap operation' on behalf of the KGB when he procured women for his network of associates, intelligence sources believe." Not surprising from a guy who believes apologizing is a sign of weakness
https://bsky.app/profile/kylegriffin1.bsky.social/post/3meab6r6p5k2m
BREAKING: Trump says he 'didn't make a mistake' with his racist video post.
Q: "A number of Republicans are calling on you to apologize for that post. Is that something you're going to do?"
Trump: "No, I didn't make a mistake."
He adds later: "I guess it was a take off on the Lion King."
Context : After releasing his birth certificate, Obama used a sequence of the Lion King (the birth of Simba) to humiliate Trump at a White House dinner as he harassed him through this conspiracy.
I'm hearing, now that the post was removed, that it wasn't what Trump actually posted, and that the clip was a screen recording reel that accidentally made it into the post.

https://www.google.com/search?q="to+interfere+in+or+undermine+confidence"+"midterm+elections"
Reads a lot like the attempt to start a rumor.
So my thinking:
- It's not my job to prove this is true; if anything, the burden of proof is on paul_hill235 to prove that this is a real document and not something he just cooked up in Microsoft Word as a conspiracy theory.
- Is paul_hill235 a new QAnon? Is he Ron Wyden with a burner account? How did he get this document? Did the White House fumble their Signal chat invites again? Why has absolutely zero news outlet, law firm representing paul_hill235, or Congressional member with active security clearances picked up on this if random people with an Internet connection have been discussing this for a week, and we're supposed to believe it's a real document?
paul_hill235 can type up a document that says "dragons are real, I have one in my basement," but the burden of proof is not on us to prove or disprove it; we can safely start with the assumption "dragons are not real, there's no verifiable proof," until he is able to prove his own statements.
Hmm you are making very good points

At the time, Kushner had been involved in Middle East peace talks, despite having no official role in the Trump administration, while also having business interests in the region. This has repeatedly caused concerns over potential conflicts of interest across both of Trump's terms.

CNN: Apparently the breakfast had been going well. Then Trump became enraged. He started ranting about the decision, not only calling it a disgrace, but started attacking the courts at one point saying: these f’ing courts

Epstein characterizes Trump as willing to encourage an attack on the US #1451695253676490884 message
Note, Epstein's idiosyncratic typing and alleged dyslexia makes it easy to assume those to be typographical mistakes or unintentional typos, but the latter clauses would suggest it would be "us" re: the circle of himself and their co-conspirators.
This would make sense given that Trump and the wider GOP were building on the issue inasmuch it could be used against the Clintons and the Democrats; but even more important, these emails are 1 day before the last release of the Miami Herald 3 part expose that would up reviving the investigation which led to his arrest
In parlance, hes crashing out. And if I was feeling really froggy, I would borderline suggest this panic attack is after finding out he cant squash the story's third act: the coverage of Ghislane Maxwell.

Why would they kill someone if Trump was not even there? Can someone explain?
They're authorized to use deadly force if they suspect someone is a lethal threat to others, not just the President.
Thank you
The House Oversight documents identify Rosemary Vrablic as Trump’s personal banker at Deutsche Bank. Vrablic was supervised by Thomas Bowers, who headed the private wealth division and set up Epstein’s accounts. According to reporting, he visited Epstein’s island and he oversaw the relationship manager who handled both Epstein and Kushner.
In November 2019, Thomas Bowers was found hanged in his Malibu home while the FBI was actively seeking to interview him about Epstein’s banking activities.
The official story treats Deutsche Bank’s Epstein fine, Trump loans, and Kushner relationships as separate matters but it looks like the man who oversaw all of them is dead.

as i understood what he said: it sounds like he is entering a deal with tech companies where the government would allow the tech company to build its own power plant to fuel its data centers (instead of using current plants)
i suppose it was just this, so maybe he mispoke? or i misheard https://www.politico.com/news/2026/02/24/trump-to-announce-data-center-energy-deals-during-state-of-the-union-00794834
(That's already a thing, though? There's been press about data centers building their own natural gas power plants because it's faster than waiting for grid interconnects.)
ah okay, looking for that now. Do tech companies own those plants directly?
It's a bit complicated - it's typically owned by the entity that owns the building.
APM's Marketplace has been doing stories about it for at least a month at this point. I'm mobile at the moment so it's a bit difficult to find sources, especially now that it's come up during the SOTU.
I'll add this one because it's not behind a paywall
https://www.texastribune.org/2025/06/05/texas-data-centers-gas-power-plants-ai/
i see the nuclear push in Texas, but I guess that's not soon enough (lol)
https://www.reuters.com/sustainability/climate-energy/texas-project-build-four-nuclear-plants-is-talks-with-hyperscalers-2025-07-08/
I used the 🤔 emoji because these two approaches aren't at all the same: if private companies are building their own power production off-grid to bypass interconnection delays and planning, then from the Politico article:
Trump is expected to announce that top tech companies have pledged to pay more for electricity in areas where they are building new data centers, which use enormous amounts of energy and sometimes water.
These facilities might not be connected to the power grid at all, so there's nothing to pay? Or they'll pay more for water? Just an unclear idea.
It's not either/or.. one of the reasons companies with data centers are creating their own power is because of the backlash from places where they have put their data centers on the grid already and it's caused significant price increases for all the users on that grid. I live in one such place, Washington DC. So the president would be very aware of this backlash and how it affects the perception he is bringing costs down. When it comes to new data centers one of the best ways to get around that backlash is to just put in your own power and not wait for the approval process to get on the grid that now often involves a lot of public debate and pressure in many locations
Hm, for sure it will be interesting to see how this works for new data centers w/o parallel investments in its power demand.
Data centers are allowed to run their own methane turbines but they are required to have air quality and construction permits: https://www.selc.org/press-release/epa-confirms-that-large-methane-gas-turbines-require-permits/ It's possible he's saying he will make these permits easier to acquire

The announcement came as the agency revised its New Source Performance Standard, which regulates air pollution from gas turbines....

This piece is over 3 weeks old already now but I don't see it posted in here yet and found it well argued and informative. In it, Stephen Walt argues that: "Trump has been called a realist, a nationalist, an old-fashioned mercantilist, an imperialist, and an isolationist. Each of these terms captures some aspects of his approach, but the grand strategy of his second presidential term is perhaps best described as “predatory hegemony.” Its central aim is to use Washington’s privileged position to extract concessions, tribute, and displays of deference from both allies and adversaries, pursuing short-term gains in what it sees as a purely zero-sum world."

Also noteworthy is that it does not have some of the AI-editing artifacts of some earlier videos. What is present are regular video cuts, first being at around 1:27 on the video. Also notable is that the bill of his hat is casting a consistent two-light shadow over his eyes. The light sources remain consistent through the video.

President Trump is using a very common cream on the right side of his neck, which is a preventative skin treatment, prescribed by the White House Doctor. Yep, it's part of FAQ #6:
“Speculation” on a server dedicated to open-source research includes things that cannot be known through open-source methods. If you have to talk to a witness, consult an expert, or make an educated guess, that’s speculation.
This is in addition to things like reading “body language”, commenting on the way any person reacts to a traumatic experience, examining handwriting, commenting on the state of mind of a person (eg, “they’re acting like [diagnosis]), or your own feelings (“this isn’t adding up!”).

RE: Spain not letting US use bases for Iran strikes:
T: Spain has been terrible. In fact, I told Scott to cut off all dealings with Spain... And now Spain actually said that we can't use their bases. And we could use their base if we want. We could just fly in and use it. Nobody's going to tell us not to use it, but we don't have to. But they were unfriendly, and so I told him, We don't want to. Spain has absolutely nothing that we need other than great people. They're great people, but they don't have great leadership."

Trump will say anything that he believes serves his interest (or that someone else convinced him is the smart thing to do) regardless of whether its fact or fiction and regardless of whether he said the opposite not long before.
That is the pattern that you should be looking for in his statements.

In his phone call with TIME, Trump described the mission as preventative. “America First is really about keeping America healthy and well, and not having other countries, you know, hit us,” he says. “There are occasions when you have no choice. This was an occasion.” The aim, he says, is to prevent Iran from having the capacity to endanger the U.S. “They can’t have a nuclear weapon. That’s number one, two, and three. Number four, no ballistic missiles,” he says. Another objective, Trump tells TIME, is installing “somebody that is rational and sane” to lead Iran.

Higher oil prices will raise costs throughout the economy, stoking inflation and forcing Americans to pay more at the gas pump. And while the sharp drop in job growth could have moved the Federal Reserve closer to Trump’s desired rate cuts, the inflationary impact of military action against Iran could sway officials against stimulating the economy.
“The Fed is soon to meet to determine what to do with rates at a time when oil prices and gasoline prices are up and thus, inflation is probably on its way up,” wrote Eugenio Aleman, chief economist at Raymond James, in an analysis.
“This is probably the worst scenario for monetary policy, and we will probably hear the term ‘stagflation’ repeated once again together with an ‘Iranian crisis.’”
Fox aired old footage of a dignified transfer ceremony today (not wearing a hat). They apologized later for an “inadvertent” mistake.

After Iran rejected U.S. diplomatic efforts, President Trump ordered military strikes with the objectives of (1) preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, (2) destroying Iran's missile arsenal and production sites, (3) degrading Iran's terrorist proxy networks, and (4) annihilating the Iranian naval threat. Overall, do you approve or disapprove of President Trump's decision to authorize military action against Iran to accomplish these goals?

One of the most succinct descriptions of our current leadership I’ve heard recently from Ryan Clark (ESPN) — see full video.
War is not sport or comedy. I’ve been asked how I felt about being included in a post from the White House using NFL hits as some sort of war highlight film. I don’t feel rage, but embarrassment. I’m saddened for the families whose loved ones are serving this country.
We have lost all integrity, decorum, & character. We aren’t led by a public servant, but a reality star. This is just the latest example of who our leadership is.
So does he want to stop Iran from having nuclear weapons and destroying the middle east. Or stop Iran from having nuclear weapons, AND destroy the middle east.

"It will be up to the president of the United States to clarify both his final objectives and the pace he intends to give to the operations," Macron said after the call.

The Trump administration may have officially been out-trolled.
Whether or not Trump is considering the precise recommendations the Post describes, the recent story is only the latest indication that he and the people around him view the declaration of a national emergency—related to national security—as a possible way to exert more control over elections. And while the contours of such a ploy remain unclear, there’s enough information available today to get a sense of what authorities the White House might invoke to try to pull it off.

Not sure where to ask this, but does anyone know when or why "lethality" became a go-to phrase for US politicians talking about their military strategy? What does the concept entail exactly? Does it imply they let too many wounded people get away alive? I recall Harris using it repeatedly on the campaign trail and now Hegseth keeps using it... not like the US military has been deplying tasers and beanbag guns up until now. And on the GOP side, increasing use of "warfighter" to mean soldier (perhaps this is used because it can be applied to different ranks and commands?)
Warrior vs soldier is nothing new. A warrior i a guy (always) that wins battles with willpower, strenght an courage whilst a soldier is a professional and part of a large organization. In a modern army you have something like 5 persons in various support roles for every combat troop so most people does not have to 'though', they just have to be good at their job. But the warfighter mentality focus only on the combat troops and tend to neglect/downgrade the support part. Now it is more focus on running fast, push ups etc, which in the end will force a lot of good soldiers out for no good reason.
The concept has a long history but really broken contain with Mattis' 2018 National Defense Strategy
Here are two shortish pieces
https://thestrategybridge.org/the-bridge/2018/11/1/lethality-an-inquiry
https://tnsr.org/roundtable/policy-roundtable-close-look-2018-national-defense-strategy/
Left undefined, lethality risks the fate of many insufficiently elucidated but well-meaning concepts. It is imperative the concept is properly understood, otherwise the word will saturate PowerPoint slides bereft of insight. Given the theoretical grounding it deserves, lethality provides incisive st
I have vibes-based knowledge of "warfighter" if it's interesting to you but it's based on my own observations
Awesome, thank you. I was researching it myself and came to conclusion it is downstream from Pentagon's own vocabulary. Strange to hear it used on the campaign trail though... I know it's supposed to sound hawkish but there is clearly missing context for the average Joe as to why you'd say "most lethal" instead of "strongest" military.
Sure, let's hear it 🙂
I think Hegseth was a podcaster and I know he was on Fox News, two places I have zero insight into - but I would say I started seeing the term "warfighter" when he was named Secretary of Defense. It caught my eye because of the lack of space between "war" and "fighter" and I was like, "oh okay are we just making up words now?"
And honestly I don't know? maybe it's some term that's just outside my spheres of influence? But I would say that from the US government I started seeing it in Hegseth's (or his adjacent) communications.
I always associated it with a contempt for "nation building" or reconstruction, or "hearts and minds" which were the directives in Afghanistan and Iraq. I know he served in Iraq.
What I noticed immediately when he started using the term was that you can’t have “warfighters” without a “war”. Seems like they have been itching for a fight despite what could have been an era of relative peace.
"warfighter" would be interesting in one of those "over time" analyses
It goes back further than that, to post 9/11 and the "Global War on Terror"
https://taskandpurpose.com/news/warfighter-wrong-way-define-american-service-member
Warfighter has been in heavy DoD use as a buzzword for at least 2 decades. I think it became more common during the Iraq war. At least in the defense simulation industry, most RFPs over the last 15-20 years have referenced improving warfighter readiness and lethality.
Just a random announcement about some sim tech from 2007, which references the USAF Warfighter Readiness Division: https://www.wpafb.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/401046/afrl-seeks-to-improve-training-save-lives-with-live-virtual-constructive-concept/
I'm also not studied on this sort of thing but I've paid attention to the space and an observation I'd like to make would be about the way the new conservatism and it's overlapping macho BS from the manosphere, white nationalism etc. fetishizes the idea of the military being Direct and Uncompromising and Getting Shit Done via the application of violence. In my experience Alot of the use of words like Lethality and warfighter is a way for them to push back against what they see as the Woke Restraint that has been pushed onto the military and if these terms originated in military lexicon it was either co-opted by them or perhaps even started by them or people who joined in later.

"warfighter" and "lethality" are pentagon jargon, yeah. pete hegseth is substantially responsible for bringing them into politics, because his political movement defines itself with vice signalling, and "lethality" is a rhetorical contrast against values of concern that also makes him sound like an insider.

When the dust settles after tomorrow's Fed meeting, the potential economic costs of the war in Iran are likely to feel more real. Headlines will be hawkish with a greater emphasis on inflation, but downside risks to employment and disposable income will also be heightened.
Is that a quote from the article?
No. The Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, commonly referred to as Dodd–Frank, is a United States federal law that was enacted on July 21, 2010.[1] The law overhauled financial regulation in the aftermath of the Great Recession, and it made changes affecting all federal financial regulatory agencies and almost every part of the nation's financial services industry.[2][3]
From the Article:
The executive order blamed banking regulations since 2008 for driving up mortgage costs. That includes Dodd-Frank, which "increased the compliance costs of mortgage origination and servicing and distorted the structure of the mortgage market," the order says.
The order presses the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to tailor mortgage banking rules to smaller banks and credit unions. That includes streamlining regulatory and documentation requirements.
Federal regulators should revise supervisory information "to focus on prudent underwriting, rather than overly technical process-oriented approaches to lending," the order states. That means reforms that "remove undue burdens on lending," including risk weights and appraisal regulations.
And, CFPB will modernize Home Mortgage Disclosure Act reporting requirements. These create compliance costs, the order says. Meanwhile, HUD, FHFA, and other agencies should also modernize some signature requirements and allow more digital and electronic sign-offs, saving time.
The order also encourages more construction-related financing, especially for community banks.

The daily montage typically runs for about two minutes, sometimes longer, the officials said. One described each daily video as a series of clips of “stuff blowing up.”
“These new disclosures suggest that Donald Trump stole documents so sensitive that only six people in the entire U.S. government had access to them, that the documents President Trump stole pertained to his business interests, and that Susie Wiles, then the CEO of Donald Trump’s super PAC, witnessed President Trump showing off a classified map to passengers on his private plane. This glimpse into the trove of evidence behind the coverup reveals a President of the United States who may have sold out our national security to enrich himself,” wrote Ranking Member Raskin.

The US had previously pledged to contribute the $1.25 billion to the president’s new international organization, which Trump says will rebuild Gaza. Of the State Department money, officials pulled $1 billion from international disaster assistance; $200 million from peacekeeping operations; and $50 million from international organizations and programs, the person familiar with the funding said.

[Treasury secretary] Bessent said in a statement that the move was appropriate for the U.S. 250th anniversary, given strong U.S. economic growth and financial stability during Trump's second term.
"There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S. dollar bills bearing his name, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the Semiquincentennial," Bessent said.
An effort for a circulating $1 Trump coin was set back by laws prohibiting the depiction of living individuals on U.S. coins.
A statute governing the printing of Federal Reserve notes gives the Treasury broad discretion to change designs to guard against counterfeiting. The law requires keeping certain elements, including the words "In God We Trust," and only allows portraits of deceased individuals.

Trump “said the real enemy — the real threat — was within. He reversed the Bush priority, which said, we fight the terrorists over there so we don’t have to fight them at home. And instead said, no, we actually have to bring the fight home. And he brought the fight home,” says Singh. “The idea there then also is that Americans themselves — that is us — we need to be governed violently first and foremost.

A lot of this can be standard these days, but even the standard stuff I don't necessarily trust this Administration with, and some of this looks very suspicious for the type of app they say it is. I have a phone that's about to go in for servicing. I wonder what this app would do if I put it on the repaired device with only minimal factory setup and a VPN somewhere far from me in the US
Oh I think you meant to reply to the image above
If you run the test, please tell us your conclusions
Yeah these are pretty run of the mill permissions for basically any app now. That shouldn't be the norm, but there's nothing strange here

Exodus project analysis of permissions and trackers: https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/reports/722094/#permissions
Interesting that they use a huawei tracker in the app.
As for permissions, that app requires more permissions than my bank does. For a news app. Particularly concerned of the combination of "run on startup + start foreground service + precise location tracking in foreground".
The run on Startup makes sense if they intend to use this to push information like a social media app through notifications. That doesn't mean I think it's a good thing, I don't, but it makes sense to have it start up and stay running if you intend to use it as a constant information feed. What doesn't make sense is all the location tracking. I expect this in something like a weather app or a food delivery app that needs to know where I am to provide the service, but this is supposed to be information from the White House and shouldn't depend on where I'm located at all times. The other interesting thing I noticed though it may be nothing is the version number 47.0. 0 sounds like a high version number for a brand new app to me. Is this a rebuild of something else like maybe a DHS app is my first thought, or did it really take that many iterations to get this ready for release? Or maybe I'm just making too much of it.
Version 47 might be a reference to Trump being the 47th president
And just used for v1 as a novelty version
Right.Ugh

More Trump noise, unless 20 ships go through today then we can probably guess it's all made up again:
Trump also said Iran has given the US oil that will be shipped tomorrow to “prove they’re serious.” Trump said when he talked last week about Iran giving the US a “present,” it was “10 massive boatloads of oil.”
“And today they gave us another present. They gave us 20 boatloads of oil that starts being shipped tomorrow,” he said.
“We’re having very good meetings, both directly and indirectly, and I think we’re getting a lot of very important points,” Trump continued.

It's about government influence on press independence
So i think this has gotten afield: no one here (myself included) should be talking about this as if knees are the fundamental issue. The concern was the WH's irregular retraction of what would normally be an otherwise uneventful and largely ignored photoshoot. If anything, I myself may have even fallen for this sort of "Streisand effect" where I am attempting to identify and rationally explain some otherwise non-issue topic artifically being made a topic of "culture war discussion". Even as far as criticism of the press secretary goes, this is not regarding her, but how the administration is attempting to manage its public image (through manageing the image of its current press sec) even in events not of public interest and long after the fact.
Yeah, I was not even aware of the photo, more so I was not aware of the knee. Thanks.

If you are interested in listening to the oral arguments this morning at SCOTUS on birthright citizenship that begin at 10 am ET, you can click here:
Is that the one Trump wants to join?
They’d need senate and house approval or two thirds in the senate.
Nevertheless, they can argue that the president has the sole power for this (questionable, but they’ve pulled this stunt before)
And they can de facto exit NATO by halting military cooperation/withdrawing troops
Realistically, the ball would end up in the court’s court. Which would make the final decision hard to predict.

New on MS NOW: Pam Bondi's portrait has already been taken down at the Justice Department. tinyurl.com/568u4dtz
Within hours of the news that President Donald Trump had fired Pam Bondi as attorney general, images began circulating of her framed portrait, unceremoniously removed from its place of honor near the president and vice president on the walls of Justice Department offices.
One photo obtained by MS NOW showed Bondi’s portrait in a trash bin.
Current and former DOJ officials said it’s a reflection of how deeply unpopular Bondi was with career officials and agents, thousands of whom left the department rather than follow her orders. Dozens more were forced out.
Many of those officials remain angry about an episode at the beginning of her term, when Bondi entered a secure area of the DOJ offices of the national security division and saw that President Joe Biden’s portrait was still on the wall, along with former Attorney General Merrick Garland. Bondi demoted a respected career veteran over the pictures still hanging in the offices after Trump’s inauguration.
In interviews, Bondi recounted how she took the photos down herself. She cited the episode as evidence that career DOJ employees were more loyal to Democrats than Republicans.

Almost 400 Million Dollars of private donations and contributions (No taxpayer dollars are being used to build this long sought, and desparately needed, ballroom!) have already been committed, or spent, in the purchase of heavy, large scale, and other types of building materials.

Halting construction would imperil the President and others who live and work in the White House. As explained here, and as the President has consistently emphasized, the ballroom’s overarching design is to advance critical security objectives as an integrated whole … Canvas tents, which are necessary without a ballroom, are significantly more vulnerable to missiles, drones, and other threats than a hardened national security facility.

Just as a random aside, Trump has used the f-word many times over the decades, including on social media (more uncommon)... but this is the first time I've ever seen him use "fuckin'" with the apostrophe. Did some extensive searching of his old tweets, Truth Socials and deleted truths/tweets, no sign of it. For some reason that jumps out as weird. (weirder than a US president saying "Praise be to Allah" on Easter Sunday? Who knows)
I know this is slightly speculative but has there been any commentary anywhere on the presence of "Praise be to Allah"? The media seems to be glossing over how out of character this post is.
I'm wondering if the media didn't get the same way I did, as his 'translation' for the Muslim leadership of Iran of
'Praise be to GOD' used on a previous post about bombing Iran for American (and maybe Western European) audiences. Basically invoking God to ramp up the threat

my personal reading of that line in trump's post was as part of that narrative, ie, "i'll give you martyrdom"

He's been obsessed with nuking something since his first term. Remember his 'If we have them why can't we use them?' during his 2016 campaign

On April 4, 2026, the Trump administration submitted a fiscal year 2027 budget request to Congress, which includes $12.5 billion for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to fund a new 'NSPM-7 Joint Mission Centre.' This multi-agency unit, operating under National Security Presidential Memorandum 7, aims to identify Americans considered potential domestic terrorists based on ideological beliefs. The centre integrates personnel from ten federal agencies and focuses on threats associated with 'anti-Americanism' and other ideological markers.
Q: How would it not be a war crime to strike Iran's bridges and power plants?
Trump: They're animals.
Trump citing nuclear weapons and past presidents are saying off the record to justify hitting power plants
https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3mitnzqck4s23
Q: Is hitting power plants is a war crime?
TRUMP: I'm not worried about it. You know what's a war crime? Allowing a sick country w/demented leaders to have a nuclear weapon. If I allowed that to happen like 7 other presidents- many of them say off the record they should've done this a long time ago
Interesting to note that Benjamin Netanyahu used the same wording / rhetoric after October 7th (he used 'animals' to describe those who carried out the October 7th attacks). Except here, with Trump, it's worse— there was actually a horrific event to respond to on October 8th while Iran has done nothing of the sort to the US, nor directly to Israel (indirect funding of terrorist groups is not inconsequential but it's also not identical)
Was going to say, same rhetoric used for the Palestinians. Though for Israel saying that long predates October 7th https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dehumanization_of_Palestinians_in_Israeli_discourse
Some Israeli politicians, media figures, military officials, and other public voices have used zoomorphic and otherwise subhuman rhetoric to describe Palestinians. This kind of dehumanization is commonplace on both sides of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. The Israeli rhetoric classifies Palestinians as non-human species, such as "animals," "...

“We sent guns, lotta guns,” he told reporters at a White House Easter Egg Roll ceremony on Monday. “They were supposed to go to the people so they could fight back against these thugs. You know what happened? The people that they sent them to kept them, because they said, ‘What a beautiful gun. I think I'll keep it,’” Trump said.
“So I'm very upset with a certain group of people, and they're going to pay a big price for that,” Trump added.
The president declined to say what group of people the U.S. attempted to send guns through as an intermediary, but a day earlier he told Fox News that Kurdish groups took the guns. Senior Iranian Kurdish officials denied receiving any guns from the U.S. and called the claims baseless in interviews with Rudaw, a media outlet based in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
So has anyone submitted FOIA requests for documents relating to what is presumably a covert action program disclosed by Trump?

Trump's respect for King Charles possibly quashed desire to annex Canada, says royal commentator
U.S. president was unaware Charles is Canada's head of state, Robert Hardman writes in new book
"When Hardman told Trump that King Charles is indeed Canada's head of state, the U.S. president said Canada has "terrible politicians" and that most Canadians live just above the U.S. border.
"The problem is some guy drew that straight line to make a border. He should just have drawn it fifty miles further north and then there wouldn’t be a problem," Trump said, according to Hardman."

The Eastern European countries have some of the highest defense spending rates in the alliance and were some of the first to signal they would support an international coalition to monitor the Strait of Hormuz. I had not heard of Mark Levin before, but he had a very long post praising him and denouncing Tucker Carlson before this. I went to listen to his show but it was bizarre... I felt like I was teleported to 2006, when I would listen to Texas conservative radio talk show hosts talk about what they thought was happening in Iraq. The transformation of Trump from his 2016 campaign to today will be studied for decades to come.

this raises the question as to why right wing figures are leaving, though i suppose if they see this data they may slink back into alignment with trump
I think the quality of the data is very suspect, seeing as Fox is quoting Kalshi as a source. It's also more speculative but I don't think it's very controversial to point out that there is a section of the right that leans very anti-Israel who seem to be setting themselves up for the post-Trump political space.
the assertion in the text is from a UMass Lowell poll fwiw
Someone also pointed out to me that polls may be seeing distortion from people setting themselves as independents when they are/were GOP. The poll they're citing claims to account for this but in practice this shift has produced a lot of polls from different pollsters that have very different margins depending on who they got.
but yeah
I have to wonder what they're seeing because by these numbers opposition from trump from Carlson et al (I know that MTG has also had a significant cratering) doesn't make much sense from a political standpoint
To answer and end here because again this is bordering speculation: There is a decent group on the right with roughly common ideas (typically being very anti-Israel) who appear to be trying to set up to play for the GOP after Trump's term is up. I don't think it it speculative to say that members of this loose group (MTG, Tucker, Jones, ect.) are used to being widely unpopular with the majority while working to advance their beliefs from the fringe – where they were before Trump.

oh ya, weird
looks like he ran it through some kind of AI filter that gave it lots of little weird artefacts
including the central angel thing that now looks like a mech out of Gundam Wing lol
"Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime" is just an incredible phrase. Too many liquer store robberies at the Vatican?
What's interesting is that you can sometimes see the bigotries of people around Trump channeled through him. There is a serious anti-Catholic contingent among the Evangelical lobby, like Hegseth's favorite preacher, Douglas Wilson, who he invites to the Pentagon. And some straight up weirdos like Laura Loomer who also despised Pope Francis and wanted a "not woke" Pope.
The source even seems to be AI, with plane-bird hybrids in the top right
ya, weird... maybe they ran the "original" through a filter for some reason?
"Make this picture again but make Trump look younger and more handsome", something like that
On closer look I think they did a whole image pass rather then use inpainting, and I would tend to think the type of prompt was "Keep the original composition, lighting, and painterly style. Replace the central heavenly figure with the Statue of Liberty. Preserve the main central figures and patriotic atmosphere" as the central figure does look like they wanted the statue of liberty raising its arm but them the AI went a bit overboard by wanting to keep the symmetry of the angel wings. so less of a nefarious intent more of an amateurish one.
This modern anti-Catholic position goes back at least to the 1980s when Jack T Chick published a series of comic book style tracts against the Catholic Church supposedly the story of a former Jesuit priest, Alberto Rivera. These are still being sold today and contain many anti-catholic conspiracy theories still influencing right-wing Christians today

Iran has just informed us that they are in a “State of Collapse.” They want us to “Open the Hormuz Strait,” as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation (Which I believe they will be able to do!). Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

“You know, I’m not a king.… I see these No Kings which are funded just like the [Southern Poverty Law Center] was funded. You all that Southern Laws, financing the KKK and lots of other radical, terrible groups. And then they go out and they say, Oh, we’ve got to stop the KKK. And yet they give them hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars. They work. It’s a total scam run by the Democrats. It shows you that, like Charlottesville, Charlottesville was all funded by the Southern Law,” Trump said—a completely outrageous claim given that neo-Nazis and white supremacists like Richard Spencer and Nick Fuentes were there. “That was a Southern Law deal too. And it was done to make me look bad. And it turned out to be a total fake. It basically was a rigged election. This was a part of the rigging of the election.”

"A shell company backed by Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump has merged with a critical minerals group that last year secured up to $1.6bn in US government support to mine tungsten in Kazakhstan.
The deal expands the Trump family’s sprawling business empire, granting the US president’s sons a stake in a company that insiders hope will help sever America’s reliance on China for metals used in munitions and other defence products.
The brothers bought into construction group Skyline Builders in August, taking stakes through a special purpose vehicle run by a subsidiary of Dominari Securities, according to three people familiar with the deal. The size of their investment was not disclosed."
I have a question. All these investments are clearly corruption. Is there a legal path in US law to a) undo them, b) punish those responsible?
A number of experts outline the obstacles
It would probably be a lot of civil cases if I had to guess but social isolation or dems breaking the law is pretty much the only pathways foward for pushing non-civil consequences
I was thinking his kids more than him. But thank you for the article all the same
There are also challenges with the kids given that they don't have formal governmental roles.
That is likely why I couldn't find something examining their potential liability in any kind of detail.
On the civil side, there are challenges as to who would bring the cases, given that the parties directly involved are presumably happy with the arrangements.
Could a new government do it?
It is more difficult than many think it should be, especially given the Supreme Court's recent decisions making bribery prosecutions more difficult.

From November of 2024,
[Harp] has no official title, but during the campaign, colleagues referred to her as the “human printer” because she followed Mr. Trump around with a portable printer and a battery pack to charge it, so she could hand him information in hard copy, as he prefers.
Here is another one from last year noting her living in a locker room at one of his golf clubs to be close to the president despite concerns from staff and security. This is a person to watch. She has become more visible in recent months and is on the China trip.

Once, on Trump’s plane, the papers flew out of her hands and everyone who helped pick them up saw what she spent her day collecting: “a random collection of out-of-date articles and printouts from obscure websites and fan artwork downloaded from strange Trump-adoring places on the internet.” So, she’s basically running a poorly updated, printed out fanblog for Trump to look at whenever he wants.

Also, to clarify, none of this is legal.
It's not a settlement, and Congress has not authorized any of this as an appropriation.
To make sure there's a source on it, this post has the judge's order that explicitly states there is no settlement on record for this case:

Here is the full text of the dismissal of Trump’s complaint against the IRS.
This clarifying order after a voluntary dismissal is not normal. But the judge knew Trump sought to weaponize the court.
Wisely, the judge noted there is no settlement of record and reiterated doubt over jurisdiction.
