@charred roost so i talked to the company who gave me an offer and asked for an extension since i was still waiting on a response from another company, the company that gave me an offer told me to let them know if i got a better offer so that they could see if they could do something on their side to improve the offer. however, today the other company i was waiting on emailed me saying they rejected me . should i email the company that gave me an offer and just ask if it’s possible to negotiate salary or should i tell them another company offered me something better so that maybe they can raise the hourly salary?

I personally wouldn't lie, but if you did idt there'd be any real reprecussions. I'd just ask them to negotiate and if they ask you to state the other company's offer, just say that you'd rather negotiate based on your worth as an intern rather than what the other company's paying you or something

Hey guys Serious quetsion need some guidance,

Im fortunate enough to have gotten an offer from Western Union for a software engineering position for the summer. However It is an exploding offer. This means I have by tonight to accept the offer. However I have a final round interview scheduled with Coinbase for the systems administration role(not really much coding). I really like Coinbase and want to work there but there’s no guarantee I get the offer. Plus its pretty late in the season. Just wondering what you guys think. Im thinking of just taking the guaranteed Western Union offer. I wanna be as professional as possible and not burn bridges with Coinbase and be open to future oppurtunites.My goal is to become a software engineer or PM in the near future. I know this is a bad reason but my only worry is the name brand recognition (Coinbase being more popular than western Union in terms of industry. Also Coinbase Internship would not consist of much coding). I’m a sophomore about to go in my Junior Year hoping to get a FAANG or Unicorn internship for summer 2022.

Yeah Its for Sys admin. Before the second round I had to get a Salesforce Trail beginner Admin Cert. They want me to build a custom salesforce app using that salesforce program and I Have to make an app that meets the requirements they give me. I fucked up extremely badly on this first day at my internship. At some point during the last meeting I went to (in which I was the only intern), someone asked a question. Then it seemed that everyone else was replying by raising a number of fingers between 1 and 5. I had no idea of what the question meant, but I ended up instinctively raising a few fingers too anyway, the same number of fingers my mentor was raising, because I guess humans have strong innate urges to copy what those around them are doing. Soon afterwards, someone asked someone else when their intern would start, and said “well, after they start and everyone is here, we’ll go through this and explain everything.”

i think you’re overthinking it in the sense that it doesn’t seem like there’s much you can do anyways considering you have a swe internship and no one can realistically say whether or not any company will or won’t give you an interview

all you can really do is apply and try your best to not mess up the opportunities you get

i’d say MIS probably isn’t as well regarded as just CS, but I don’t think it’s a super big deal either and won’t be the deciding factor on whether or not you get an interview at 95% of places

there are people who go full time faang/big n/unicorn/quant or whatever places with 0 internships too and there are people with 4+ who don’t make it to their ideal company

neither are the average case though so take it as you will
