There are pros and cons. I think the skillset you cultivate as a quant dev is quite different from a swe at faang where its leaning towards scalable solutions (im not a qd but this is from speaking to the quant devs on my team / other firms)
Theres so many different kinds of swe work in the quant industry though
Each has their own niche which is not super transferable even within the industry
Thats my take as someone whos met different kinds of qds. Lets say you are a qd at a low frequency stat arb team - its more likely your work is more focused on research tooling (the qrs can implement stuff pretty much end to end without advanced coding skills) vs a qd at an ultra hft team that might be more focused on implementing stuff
