My advice is that your friend (who works at cit) asks his/her HR at citadel if he/she can refer you to citsec. And if it’s not possible maybe ask if the HR from citadel can say smth good about you informally to a HR person from citsec.

no, in general for companies referrals matter more if:

1. It's for a position they don't get much applicants/good applicants for (aka more senior positions)
2. It's referred by someone that's more senior/important (bc they know what it takes to succeed in that role)
3. The person vouches hard for you (in cases where maybe u don't have anything special on resume or they have so many applicants you wouldn't have been looked at)

Pretty much everyone in any public channel, specifically this one is going to say its impossible but theres a bunch of smaller quant firms that dont have a degree requirement for swe / quant dev, random firms like engineers gate, boerboel trading, virtu, to name a few

Jane street and jump trading dont either but its more likely to work there after working ft at another quant firm too since their resume screen has a high bar
