Don't overthink it, sometimes people separate things in their heads when in reality it all works the same!
Movement works on the basic principle of You move in the exact opposite direction your hand is moving.
So think about how people move on the floor. You pull in a straight line, to go in a straight line. If you want to go up, you push down.
So if you want to go along a wall, then you jump at the wall, let the wall come to you, and then just push in the opposite direction that you want to go. As long as you push into something, you'll have grip. So think of it like you basically are drawing imaginary lines along the surfaces you're traveling along, but while slightly pushing in towards the surface. But remember to not reach out towards any walls, because if you are reaching towards them, you're going to push yourself away as soon as you touch them.
