it is easy for anyone to recommend what gears to use when everything is mythic or gold.
but realistically as u progress u have gears at different grades. some blue some gold etc. You gotta keep changing and use whats best in that stage of your game. Thats where people with actual understanding of the game can make the right choices

Don't even touch the wall research, I made it a huge dumbness by doing wall research when I was a noob, now my wall takes centuries to repair. I have currently maxed out wall repairing speed. So, don't think about researching related to wall. You may do trap research, but they are kinda useless. No point of unlocking t4 traps. I am a t4 player, and is very close to t5 yet I have not unlocked t4 traps. Totally not worth it. Next, don't train much seige, 10k seige of each tier is enough. And, don't ever think about using defence jewels and defence gears. Best is attack, next it hp, and the least is defence. Hope what I told helps :)
