There are a few diamond cards that can do awesome things at even f0 but the game is so much more fun when you at least F4. It's gets better at f7/8. And then of course the real thing at fX. fX is a long way away so if you actually want to compete you really gotta spend a lot of souls. So why pay 400 souls per pack when you can pay 200-300 per pack during sales. You get much more for your money. I don't know about you but I personally didn't think it was much fun with f0 everything. At that point you are limited to what game modes you can go far with. So save the souls and let the diamond cards come over time.
Side note- I don't really play my diamonds until I get these fused to at least 3 or 4. And I don't even go heavy with then until f8+. Just a personal preference because I have a maxed account and a "beginner" but the point is I don't think it's fun to rush into spending a bunch of souls just to have a dozen f0 cards that you can't really go to war with
