By the time the sales (if any) come around, I should have about 3-4k worth of souls

No. 31x16=496+86= 582 this much souls are guaranteed in NR quests. Ofcourse you can save 6*16+49=145 minutes by using caro's guidance and can get around 62 extra souls. But even after that it's not 800 souls per day guaranteed. And even for that much you have to be precise and punctual, so that you won't waste a single minute. You have to sleep and wake up according to it. So don't bother by these type of comments. In real world you can to 12-13 1 hr quest and one 8 hr quest and it's fine. You will get around 403+86=489 souls.
