By just going in blind you're never taught how to handle that

The game itself never teaches you competitive and you have to look elsewhere

One thing I feel like you might not have heard and might wanna know is, unlike the single player campaign, official competitive is heavily geared towards double battles, even official tournaments and the world championship being exclusively double battles

It's why most of the time when taking about in game battling outside of showdown, itll be double battles

@wind sparrow The single battle scene is pretty big too by the way, but most of the players migrate to smogon rulesets and just playing on pokemon showdown, because most people find that 6v6 singles are are more fun format and abandon 3v3 and the smogon rulesets are a lot more regulated for balance, that's what ou uu ru and stuff are when you open up rulesets on showdown, it's the rulesets

Each turn in a battle is extremely valuable especially in double battles so just by the fact tyranitar doesn't have to spend a whole turn activating the sandstorm it already heavily outclasses iron thorns

Double battles go by so fast that by just using a whole turn to click sandstorm you're already wasting like 15-20% of your turns in most battles by doing that
