Yo, looking to get started in VGC. How do I get started creating a team or learning which teams are working? I understand Pokémon like Tornadus, Urshifu, Rillaboom are good rn I guess but I have no clue how to gather a full team, train em up, get the stats and abilities where I want em, etc. I’d rather catch and train em myself and not get genned ones. Especially if I want to play at tournaments one day. Anything helps. 👍😁

Pikalytics is a good site to check, there's also Smogen of course

Pikalytics just shows how often people use certain pokemon, builds, and what pokemon they pair with them, though it can be a little deceiving since it's just raw numbers and doesn't really pair them together. So it will tell you how often moves are used but it won't tell you if those moves are used together or not for example. They also don't have any help for Regulation G yet.

Personally I build a team around a pokemon I like, so I'm probably not the best person to ask. If you just finished the game you should probably work on getting the training held items and some mochi if you have access to it.

Pick a Rental and start playing is the best way to learn. Sometimes the Pokemon you want to build around are non-viable/difficult to use and just makes life harder for yourself to initially learn. A lot of players always make the mistake of not getting out of their own way to learn the game first
