The answer is yes, Battle Bond exists in Gen 9. Given how the 3ds E-shop no longer exists and you cant download the demo anymore, but those who have it, still can use it. The bots are now the best way to get one legit.

Most common problem with swsh is not connecting to the internet in-game. Make sure that your Y-comm is completely blue while connecting with the bot and make sure to start the trade in-game once the bot says "Initializing". Hopefully that helps :D
