When are us batch 1 buyers gonna get our case
Are the ram issues with n64 not working correctly solved now?
yes, Robert kindly adjusted the core to accommodate
I haven't had any issues since so I guess so
Ah, company upgrades on Twitter only, that site that more often than not won’t let you see the posts if you don’t have an account. 🥲
Where's the countdown on Taki's shop?
Works perfectly. Ive tested all of my peripherals including Sinden and MT32-Pi and everything works identically. Only issue I had was needing to reseat the Analog IO board to resolve some crackling in the audio via the headphone jack.
Wow the timing of this post on Reddit is very convenient
meaningless attack. It was copy pasted to the messageboard too and removed
Its a pitiful attempt to blacken Taki's Name and board
Probably one of those MARS minions who hate anything related to MiSTer FPGA 😛
yeah its all a bit fishy
funniest thing is, if someone were really to sue Taki's for copying Terasic's PCB, he can use the N64 core RAM timing problem as proof on a court 😂
Its baseless claims. The DE10 is just off the shelf parts
I'm just kidding
I like the way its Taki focused with no mention of QMtech boards
I would assume that Taki has the permission to use the reference design from intel if he got the fpga chips directly from them.
The PCB is different to the DE10, same with the QMtech board
you cant copyright a PCB layout either AFAIK
The differences in the PCBs might be behind the N64 issue due to the trace length, signal integrity
If people could afford it and cared about supporting the mister community they would buy misteraddons because he’s a part of the mister community and comes up with cool stuff all the time and basically is the guy who made the whole project accessible to normal folk. (In the US) MARS doesn’t even exist yet and REPLAY is old with REPLAY2 not existing either. So how exactly do they contribute? Mentioning those and not porkchop in the context of a mister product seems pretty suspect for what the source of this is
Though I guess general drama, threatening closed source and picking fights with other devs is a negative contribution which is a kind of contribution 😜
Ricardo at UltimateMiSTer has been with the project since day one and still donates back to the project from sales
Nat in the UK has been supporting the project for years too
Cheaper DE10 alternatives are good for the established sellers too
Has nothing to do with us.
the mars/mister animosity is real weird to me. I'm relatively new, and I imagine there is a backlog of shit that I missed but people shitting on Mars or Mister seems like a waste of energy - especially since both teams are constantly putting out cool shit
but, this is the internet
Enjoy the cheaper entry point into the mister world. If users like, they could spend some of the saved money to the mister project or devs. That’s my opinion
Yeah, the Taki clone is so good for the community
again, I don't understand why folks would shit on it
aside from it's the internet
Yeah I amended with in the US
There is a great petty story to be told at some point and yes it goes back years even before MARs was a thing
Probably the post is hoping to slow mister adoption? Not sure
i imagine there has to be
I would bet that we see replay2 before mars 😁
Bit late after 8 years
Though if Takis roadmap works out as he plans the market will be flooded
Heh, new growth, not the tens of thousands of current misters. New purchases that do the majority of consoles and arcades people care about make buying another product less appealing
If QMtech can keep supplies consistent it would help too
I doubt it’s the same customers though. Replay2 and mars if they happen will be a lot more expensive than a Taki setup
True, more competition lowers the prices.
The issue with Replay 2 is the choice of FPGA Intels new Agilex especially with the state of Intel and the rumours of selling off Altera
i can never see it being cheap enough
unlike the Cyclone range its fabbed in house and Intels fabs are useless
but Replay 2 is Mikes pet project and i am sure we will see it arrive at some point.
Yeah there’s a small group of people who were upset about Sorg rejecting their ideas and having all the control over the project he started and they are bitter even today. Which honestly must take a lot of energy to maintain multi year spite 😅
We will see what happens. I guess replay2 lite is more in the price range of the de10 before the clones arrived.
The DE10 was the same price as the clones up until 2021
There is no need for the current DE10 price point
Yeah I paid $130 for my first two I think
Terasic will have a better deal than Taki from Altera
Some have estimated Terasic pay $15-20 a pop for the Cyclone V
Then $215 for #3? But then $133 for the next two because I bought refurb from Terasic
weird. I dunno if you're referring to the mars crew, but they are still putting stuff out for Mister, so I guess I don't get it. Again, I wasn't around for it, and I'm sure the lack of context is effing me here. I like both sides, I guess
Its bigger than the MARs crew and was going on long before
Intel and Terasic could do something to drive the decision in One direction they want. Need only to lower the prices of the new chips.
I should have bought my first mister from misteraddons. But the day I was going to buy, they were sold out, and so I had to get my fix elsewhere
Altera has already been spun off by Intel
it definitely seems like it. but boy howdy, people don't like mars
No, it’s not the whole mars crew, just one member there afaik
With the reported yields per wafer Intel are getting, That wont happen for a long long time
Mars talk should be #fpga-platforms not here this is for Taki's boards
We will see what really happens. If were intel, I would like to produce the chips to fully load my fabs.
The fabs are the issue though
last year they were only getting 10-15% good dies per wafer
Intel are in the position AMD was a decade or so ago, The fab business is dragging the rest down like a massive weight around their necks. Its been loosing lots and lots of money for them
How long did Intel even own those guys
Oh that’s longer than I thought. I have DE10 boxes with and without the Intel logo slapped on so guess they were late to add that
Anyway DE10 chat also not for this channel ha
Yeah the buyout completed end of 2015, They paid $16.7 billion for Altera
yeah sorry got carried away
No I was doing it, my bad
The problem is that you can’t save money and pay the shareholders without investments in the fabs for long times. TSMC is only in that position as they invests in there fabs. It’s risky not to have an own fab.
If china attack Taiwan, companies like apple, Nvidia and amd are in real trouble
👀
The new case from Todd?
Crypto ppl would be up in arms
Crypto is second rate, but I believe it would also been affected cause big arm companies uses also TSMC fabs. And only 5 of the actual 24 fabs are outside from china and Taiwan. Such an impact would hit the hole world.
Chip fabs could be profitable, in 2022 the gains was more than 50% of the total turnover.
Intel might be going fabless it seems as there are multiple companies interested in parts of their fab tech, They already outsource some silicon to TSMC
I am now selling the digital files for my MiSTer Pi case for printing at home. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1792523738/mister-pi-compact-case-digital-files?ref=listings_manager_grid
Just $6
Still waiting on mine to ship 😦
Sure, but it is risky, as mentioned before.
This attack post has now been blocked by the subreddit mods.
Yeah i saw it was deleted
I don't really get what is different if Retroid is the parent company.
A lot of the post made no sense really
"I got him now! He didn't set up a 4000 unit sale and shop from his basement as a lonely person!"
I’m currently in the process of designing a case for myself but if it doesn’t work out it’s nice to know I can buy the files. Thanks!
"I see your tax filings are incorrect, sir! I will be contacting reddit."
Retroid is the parent company of Remake now lol
What did I miss while I was on vacation?

Me being very impatient on your batch 2 drop
Yeah, it was a list of like public trading documents I think?
Wish I could read it
#mister-hardware message
I have my tinfoil hat on
It was just documents iirc. The Reddit account was new/no posts before
They seemed similar the trading/public house documents you find in businesses in the UK. It did mention Retroid.
It was also mentioning about you potentially infringing copyrights on the Terasic board.
It was the internet being the internet
Retroid has nothing to do with R2, sorry to burst that bubble.
I also don't have anything to do with Retroid
And I haven't for years
Well that is strange as that person did kinda give the impression Retroid was helping/behind the project with you.
Shame that post got deleted otherwise you could've had an interesting read.
There is no Retroid doing anything
Never dealt with retroid stuff, why would it have even mattered if it hadn’t been BS? Don’t they just make handhelds like a bunch of other places?
That person must have been making up lies and other bogus Information.
(I hope we get an announcement on batch 2 drop time soon)
As of right now, we have two full-time employees including me. Neither of us work on Retroid stuff. Then we have two part-time employees (CS and one MCU programmer for SUPER5). They also do not work for or on Retroid stuff.
That person went through a lot of effort fabricating documents. I can't remember exactly what was written (as it was in another language)
But unfortunately that's all I can remember on that post.
Still can't believe I stayed up till 1am just in case of that batch dropping. But I did manage to get a decent deal on a TV in that prime sale.
So not all is bad I guess.
Yeah I'm not sure what the post was getting at. When we previously asked you if you worked with bitfunx, that was a goofy wild guess before your board was released.
The post had some more layers
Like an ogre
Bitfunx is a douche from everything that I've heard and read.
Oh yeah that one has a rep
Yeah they seem crappy but someone said they also do the manufacturing for retro-bit. No idea if that's true, but retro-bit doesn't have the same bad reputation as them.
Sorry if the bitfunx question was insulting at all.
@strong falcon I think it was crossposted to the mister phpbb forum and deleted, if you think you want to take a look at the docs linked maybe a mod can have access to the deleted message? Not sure tbh
It seems like a lot of trouble to go through to buy Reddit upvotes and post it on a burner account on the date they thought would be the second MiSTER Pi batch window.
Gotta get those updoots
Honestly it also may have been deleted because it's just trying to stir up drama
that doesn't really fly in this community lol
I'm with you on this, it was an odd hill to die on. Companies do multiple things all the time.
I've noticed that we don't like it when drama is stirring and we just add to the pot... Generally I think we do a better job approaching it respectfully. Stop it in its tracks, but don't be a dick about it
I should have taken screenshots of the initial post
The mods have quite a heavy hand in that channel when it comes to deleting stuff
I have managed to find part of the post, well the comments and the username of the person that posted. If you want me to DM it to you I can.
Most replies were archived, but not the post:
undelete.pullpush.io/r/MiSTerFPGA/comments/1fyuf7h/retro_remake_hometown_hero_or_retroid_front/
I'd have thought that browsers would store the page in the cache, but I couldn't figure that out
Yeah I was able to find the comments there too. But couldn't find the main post.
Doesn't seem like the two reddit mods are active on this server
The whole post was that
Does QMtech drop there boards on a specific day?
No random
What was most interesting about that post on Reddit was the timing if you consider a new batch of Takis boards is about to be released
If anyone can contact the mods they should be able to pass on screenshots of the initial post
I rarely use Reddit anymore though, it’s too frustrating to see the right answer buried so often
I managed to find some of the pics that was linked on that post and sent them to Taki
Someone in another channel said Saturdays ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Sweet, thank you.
there were a lot of people pointing out in the removed comments that the account was freshly made with no previous comments besides like 2 small things, and then this drops... removing its credibility as anything but a marketing tactic from a possible competitor
whoever it was, we don't know obviously... it's just sad that I saw a lot of people in the comments seem to state and believe that Retroid/Retro Remake has ties with Taki... And that the evidence for it has been around for a while. Even I don't understand where that information comes from.
I checked the profile before the post was removed, it had no previous comments at all, and 0 comment karma
Yeah, I checked this too
Watching Pixel Cherry Ninja's latest video that quotes Taki saying you can dry run address issues by adding something in stock to your account and trying checking out. I don't think this is true, but I cannot offer any concrete evidence. All I know is that people that had their addresses loaded last time had issues during both parts of the release. I can confirm that I had an issue and had to re-enter my address during checkout. However, testing the same address after the fact had no issues. And Taki couldn't recreate it either. I think it's a load problem with one of the services it relies on.
If anyone was that serious (and I’ll be honest, I don’t really know why the connection matters if it exists) they could (probably) buy a copy of the company information from the HK Companies Registry
Looks like it’s public info, but they charge for access or something, I’m not super familiar
“All your company are belong to us!” 🤣
Batch 2 wen
I like the exposed triple stack look but I don't like picking it up by gripping the memory module so I came up with the idea of a sort of exoskeleton case inspired by camera cages. It's still in the CAD phase, I haven't started printing yet. Any thoughts or critique?
Do you recommend an online printing service for people who don’t have a 3d printer?
Sure. But they might want to look at resin or SLS printing
I dig it!
Looks like this is all one piece. Won't overhangs be a major issue?
Yeah I haven't split the model for printing yet. Overhangs will be an issue either way, supports will be needed.
It's going to be an ambitious print for sure lol.
Any recommendation in specific?
Just get it printed in SLS. No need to worry about supports
Unfortunately I only have an FDM printer. But I'll try my best.
I have a friend with a resin printer that I might bother.
Not really
Check if your local library does. I'm lucky that mine does and it's all through a web portal. Just submit your files online and go pick it up. Costs 10 cents per gram
I wonder if that’s the standard, or if we live in the same town :p
Oh, will check it out for sure! Thanks for the tip!
My library has a field for “maximum amount you’re willing to pay” and I cannot imagine the headache that causes
Well dang. What did the article say???
I used craftcloud
Whoa! Thank you!!! 🙏
Got some SLS nylon polished prints done for a panel I designed for supporting other buttons on a crazy taxi cabinet for other Naomi driving games
First time doing that or 3D printing was fun
Will purchase the files from Todd and give it a try for sure
Also you can dye nylon 3d prints by boiling them in nylon dye
SLS Nylon PA12, right?
That’s what I did my prints in but it was fairly simple and I wanted it to be structurally solid and durable and from reading that’s a decent choice
But I have little experience with all these print materials
I’ve only seen the usual like pla stuff people have on home prints and this nylon stuff
Won't pull the trigger as for that price I can buy TWO cases from Todd haha
But I'm glad he's released the files and I'm glad to support him again! Maybe when I have my own 3D printer? 🙂
Yeah mine was like less than $30 shipped for like 5 piece because they were all pretty basic
Well and I did a test print before that for like $13
But I was making something new
Good call, lemme try with a very basic config
Geez, too many options that I know nothing about lol
I mean the model complexity was basic
I quit 😛
The print material cost and model complexity to print seem to make up your cost. But yeah why not just buy the mister pi case from todd anyway
Customizing it?
Exactly! I was mostly just curious about it! Thanks for the tip anyways!
You can also buy a Bambu Labs A1 mini for $199 and print anything you want lol
Wow 3D printers are that cheap now?
Not that I need another thing using up space that I rarely use
Yes and the A1 mini/A1 have been described as appliances in all the reviews I’ve read. As in your hobby isn’t the 3D printer itself, it’s what you make
They’ve gotten that good now
I can make some space for it on my desk if I throw my EPSON EcoTank away 😄
I want an A1 (cause bigger is better?) with the AMS lite so I can do multicolor prints. Tho I will probably never need the size vs the mini
Can they print nylon or is that another thing?
You need an enclosed printer for Nylon afaik
Bambu P1S would be the step up from the A1
Even that starts at $599
I have a P1S. I think the A1 is probably best for most ppl.
A1 is good for PLA/PETG
Yeah. It turns out that's all I really use.
Which honestly is enough for most people
Yeah. An A1 mini would probably be plenty for me to make project boxes/cases/little toys for my kid
Then I’m like well the full size isn’t that much more…. Oh look a P1S isn’t that much more…. Then all the sudden I’m buying a X1 Carbon.
😂
Yup they have priced it perfectly
None of them are bad deals. I think the larger bed size is worth it.
And ams
A1 mini is a stupid good deal at 199
Its shits on pretty much every other printer under $400
Is the $199 the regular price?
Yeah
Black Friday usually brings a sale as far as I can tell
Honestly when I will probably bite
That's when I got mine.
It was $249
You can get it with the AMS multi color system for $349 if you want to do multicolor
and don't be put off by it's smaller size
95% of what i design and sell would fit on that 180x180mm bed
Oh is $199 a sale or the reduced price?
it was a sale price
they just never took it off sale
lol
so i guess it's the new price for it
Oh yeah they did that with the P1 last year
I wanted to get an A1, but I needed an enclosure to keep my pets away.
that's something I didn't think about and I surely will need to consider when I buy a 3d printer...
I've had a P1P for coming on two years now and it's a reliable tool
Tried Creality in the past which nearly put me off 3D printing for good.
I even had a Prusa Mini that got sent back due to multiple issues out of the box
My cats have zero interest for my non-enclosed 3d printer. If anything they are afraid of it when printing.
I do worry about the small particles emission and other fumes hurting their tiny bodies much faster than ours.
Second batch wen
Only Taki knows
Just got this email from Taki related to crackling audio on the PSX core!
@tepid lynx maybe you want to try the above and see if it really fixes the crackling audio issue?
My cats like pinching the purge poops thats about it
24-bit rendering? Didn't fix it 😦
That’s what I thought. I will test also and report back
Does your board have good caps or bad caps? Mine appears to have the right caps
As an aside, I 3D printed this case and I’m super impressed.
Changed my color scheme from "ice cream sandwich" into "chocolate ice cream". Props for the guy who designed the case. I really like it too.
Chocolate ice cream is nice. I went with denim. LOL
I went with glitter purple on bright green, cause it has all the 80's and 90's games.
Good hand soldered caps. Sound is good (not muffled) but I get the crackling in PSX
Replaced the caps and the analogue audio is sooo much better now. Made a big difference.
I don't need to bother with an external DAC anymore.
hooray
Taki just wanted us to have an authentic console recapping experience.
Have you got a link to this case?
nvm found it https://www.printables.com/model/1026569-mister-pi-taki-udon-mega-pack-case
Mine has decided it wants to drop signal with the Saturn core at 2048x1536... Unstable is fine though 😐
i am making the ancestral call of the toddcase... case where are you........
Hopefully he doesn't ship when MARS is released 🙏
i will just keep pawing at the screen until i get a shipment notice
my mister is trapped in my office until it doesn't have to go out naked
Seriously now, there are some people here that got shipment notification already. They will be shipped soon™️
Expect a huge batch of shipping notices tomorrow and over the weekend
I pray for my case every day
Oh, another PAer!
West sydee
Re-seating the analog card fixed it for me
LOL
This was my fix. Not the prettiest but it works. Go back and clean it up or nah?
Nah. It works, don’t dick with it
Good advice. Thanks!
woohoo
It’s the right choice
Rocking the tri color for now
Also don’t be an idiot like me and forget to remove the top screws and wonder why you can’t get the top of the case on 😵💫
Lights are visible enough to know what’s going on if needed
has anyone else been tempted to correct the LEDs
Looking beautiful!!! Mine has shipped today!!
Mine hasn’t shipped because todd is walking across two states to hand it to me
(that’s the only reason I can think of)
He could be cycling?
we can hope. would mean I’d get it faster
I'm 5.8 miles from Ohio. I'm barely in another state lol
ok so.... n64 is fixed. Sound issues are identified... I have a case...
now what the fuck do I do with this thing?
Drop test the case.
should I memtest the case?
now you start buying controllers
already worse!
Just bought a second 8bitdo M30 on prime days thing
I bought one of these things and, aside from not being wireless, it’s a really good all purpose controller. Six face buttons and dual analog https://electronics.woot.com/offers/hori-fighting-commander-octa-tekken-8-edition-for-windows-pc
Was there a particalar core that PSX was scratchy in?
I am happy with my PS4/PS5 controllers and these M30's for now
N64 will be my next ones
Would misteraddons aluminium armour case fit the mister pi stack?
Ah that’s a shame, I really like the look of those cases
The M30 is my favourite
In my case it was fixed by reseating the Analog IO board…no special core build required
I just wanted to test if mine was affected after reseating the board. Was there any particular game that showed the worst of it?
Thanks! Will test when I get home.
This is my favorite PlayStation game so far
That doesn't look like RE2 to me?
Controls are better
my misterfpga case came. as I feared, it feels like the case prevents full cable insertion. oh well I guess, they're connected enough to be powered and display video
Looks alright though
which cable is the issue?
feels like hdmi & usb-c. Less an issue just no satisfying click when cables are inserted
I would check your costs first to send it back. 128 is low compared the guaranteed 140-150 range.
Try reseating it
Godd idea
That’s considered defective by the standards yeah
Confirmed that the Canakit Pi4 Usb C Inline power switch works great.
Thats the one I bought
I can confirm that both reseating the board and enabling 24-bit mode in the PSX core didn’t help with audio crackling
How are you connecting audio? And to what?
try blowing some compressed air in the mini toslink port
same, mega cd sounds bad. psx bad too, however the psx x2 core sound good. so who knows. I assume it's a software issue than hardware problem?
How does it sound coming out of hdmi?
all good, just analog is bad
I know you all got a swell deal with these mister pis but now that you are hooked, the retrocastle and mister addons io boards with Saturn cables are excellent options.
Then it’s likely hardware. It working under 2x is the same thing that happened with the n64 core. Hardware defect that was (luckily) corrected with software
Could also be framework related #1046940919607345272 message
Is the reason why some arcade cores display a blank screen on a CRT is because they do not support 24-bit color?
Geez! Haven’t tested megacd yet! Will do that and report back
Go away! 🙃
I'm sorry. All clone board purchasers must only buy clone addons.
I got my RMA'd Mister Pi in, Snatcher sounded fine but Sonic CD Japan's title screen was unlistenably crunchy on analog. Better than the 0 analog audio I had before RMA at least lol
Yeah mine was fine with Snatcher. I'll have to try Sonic CD
Why? What’s good about the Saturn cables instead of VGA?
I can confirm that MegaCD audio is just crappy through analog audio: blown up and full of crackling. You can tell that right from the BIOS song. Sonic CD intro song is just unbearable.
My guess is it has to do with refresh rate 15 vs 31 khz??? But hard to say without a specific picture or example game.
@civic badge can't be 31hkz since all arcade cores I run are 15khz on my PVM
Simplified setup. One cable can get you almost everything, including audio.
Looks fantastic
Yeah the arcade cores that don’t work on 24-bit need framework updates, some probably won’t ever be updated for…dumb reasons that aren’t worth getting into
Use the 240 shift core
The good thing about having so many boards is this is much easier to debug this annoying audio stuff
PSX
DE10 + Alliance SDRAM or MiSTER Pi SDRAM + AV 9.2 with analog audio out and PSX = bad audio
MiSTER Pi + Alliance SDRAM or MiSTER Pi SDRAM + AV 9.2 with analog audio out and PSX = bad audio
DE10 + Alliance SDRAM or MiSTER Pi SDRAM + AV 9.2 with analog audio out and PSX 240 shift = great audio
MiSTER Pi + Alliance SDRAM or MiSTER Pi SDRAM + AV 9.2 with analog audio out and PSX 240 shift = great audio
MegaCD
DE10 + Alliance SDRAM or MiSTER Pi SDRAM + AV 9.2 with analog audio out and MegaCD = bad audio
MiSTER Pi + Alliance SDRAM or MiSTER Pi SDRAM + AV 9.2 with analog audio out and MegaCD = bad audio
RTC module isn't a perfect fit with the usb-a placement but it's enough for it to function
There's a 240 shifted core for PSX?
that's the one I compiled I think
#1046940919607345272 message some further discussion on the matter in that thread too
Not a great solution as the cause is still unknown and the change on this test core won’t go to regular core
Also MegaCD analog audio is completely broken with my av pro
Wondering if the non-RetroRemake AV Pro boards have any of these issues with analog audio
They should. There is nothing left that can be different.
If crackling and blown up analog audio is common with other vendors AV Pro boards then I agree that’s nothing to be done here hardware-wise
I did see someone say they had similar issues but not with their 6.1
A) if affected users test the core and it seems the problem fixed with that, well, it may be the problem was that, right?
B) why you say it won’t go to main core? The N64 core already got the fix to the RAM access in main IIRC
For B) Robert said it wouldn’t #1046940919607345272 message
Ah, I missed that, thanks for the correction
A) other people don’t report issues so it might be a combination of hardware/software issues
I thought everyone that tried that found no audio problems, definitively I need to reread that thread 😅 thanks everyone for the patience
Well at least for the AV board crackling and the mister main not working, we now have hundreds of people with the board in the wild, so it's way easier/faster to find any issues it still has with cores that aren't fully working.
Yeah the 9.2 av board is relatively new in general right
How’s the XT core test doing on the MiSTer Pi? Curious about the working/non-working ratio
@strong falcon if i buy your clone board and usb hub, will they be compatible with my ancient analog io board and 2.5 ram
Taki done gone
ItalianGrandma was testing some stuff a while ago with a 2.5 sdram just fine
not sure about the io board
yep 2.5 sdram on Taki board worked fine
N64 worked fine before the new adjusted core came out
I gave up on my cage case idea and started over with a fully enclosed case. Going to print it tomorrow. I also modelled a MiSTer Pi. Can post the file here if anyone wants it as soon as I've verified the accuracy with a print.
I only modelled the parts necessary for creating a case around it though.
This looks great! Does it play games like a normal mister? Technology is incredible!
I was hoping you'd catch the reference 😅
Wow
Yes
quick question. for mister pi folks, will a passive cable adapter like this work for s-video out through the analog io board? or do we need one of the more fancy adapters:
https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-102509-S-Video-Composite-Adapter/dp/B001I25ZWM
Discontinued The functionality of YC Active has been integrated into IO Analog Pro and IO Direct! Grab a short VGA cable (with pin 9 connected for 5V power) here Outputs S-video (Y/C) and composite video simultaneously Active Luma trap for cleanest composite video possible on MiSTer Tuned for NTSC but wor
I use s-video without the adapter and it works well. I don't know about that specific cable though, i made my own one.
i know the mister pi has the updated analog board. i just don't know if that means you don't need the fancy dingus anymore for clean output
mister pi uses the official io pro 9.2 design which doesn't have have the active YC encoder stuff onboard, so you do need an adapter like the one linked
The misteraddons analog io pro and io direct do have yc onboard, so for those you dont need the adapter
The monoprice cable will not work.
The YC adapter/dongle is no longer sold by MiSTer Addons, but there is one I got on eBay that works great with the MiSTer Pi. The dongle is required for composite to prevent rainbows when combing chroma and luma.
If you really don't want the dongle and only want svideo, then you need a VGA to RGB cable, then a RCA to Svideo cable plugged into the Red and Green of the RGB cable.
Did a test print today of the case that I designed around this Mister Pi model. The accuracy of the model is nearly there, my case fits but some of the ports could be centred better. I've run out of time and patience for 3D printing and modelling today, but will try to get to it sometime this week. If anyone wants the model so they can design their own case around it, just ping me and I'll try to hurry up.
Show us the case!
Haha, I'm not happy with the way it printed today, I need to get some new filament to try something different. But I can show the current render.
👀
My brain worms want to get into 3d printing in a big way, but considering I have the art skills of a toddler, I’ve been able to keep them at bay
With the new "appliance" 3D printers, you don't need to be creative to get use out of them. Of course it does help if you're interested in modelling your own stuff.
I printed it with translucent PLA today hoping that it would look good with the lights, but it's just a bit too milky white for what I was going for. Might go for something like a dark grey instead.
Alternatively, this case would look pretty good in aluminium, but I don't have any experience with ordering CNC parts.
Some food for your worms: I've no art skills and my 3D printer is a lot of fun.
Nice! Looks like there is a seam in the middle, so you print it in two parts with the end sides being your bottom layers? How do the two pieces fit together and stay together?
Yup, exactly. It fits together nicely, there's an overlap at the seam where the parts friction fit together. They are held in place with the usual screw posts.
Looks like a good approach! Definitely a lot less overhangs vs your initial approach so it should print quite nicely.
Yup, it was an easy print. No supports needed. Just fought some build plate adhesion issues since I don't have a heated bed. I really want a new printer. 😭
Fine fine fine. What’s the best 3d printer I can get that is above appliance grade, but that I don’t have to wear a hazmat suit for?
@gritty herald mentioned something the other day and now I can’t find it
I’d get a Bambu Lab P1S if they were available in my country.
Wait for the Taki clone of it though.
Anything from Bambu. If you want something enclosed, get the P1S
A Prusa MK4S will cost $200 to ship to me. 🤣
this x1 carbon looks pretty good
Just the shipping? Thats a bit spendy.
Just the shipping.
If you want something you can just plug in and start printing, Bambu is the way to go. If you are the DIY type, like to tinker and are an open source fanboy like myself, take a look at Voron and spend more time tweaking and customizing than printing. I really like my Trident and the Voron community is amazing.
BTW, just because the printer is enclosed doesn't mean you don't need to take precautions against both volatiles and microparticles. The big benefit of an enclosure is it lets you print at an elevated temperature for materials like ABS and TPU. Small carbon filters like those in the Bambu can only do so much for volatiles and those don't do anything for microparticles. This video is well worth watching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nofn_MHrxrs
Don't breathe this!
Thanks to Sunlu for sponsoring a part of this video! Check out their resin and filament options at https://go.toms3d.org/sunlu
The Ikea filters I used are FÖRNUFTIG (EPA12 + carbon) and the more affordable UPPÅTVIND (EPA only)
If you get a HEPA filter e.g. from Amazon, I'd recommend buying a reputable brand to make sure you...
Thank you
yeah, its not quite as bad as like.. Resin printing, but good airflow/explusion to the outside is a good idea
Looks good, are you selling the design?
I'm compiling a list of paid and free case designs to add to the site
When I’m happy with it I’ll release it for free.
Looks like batch 2 has nicer sdram. Tempted to order one and test those old cores lol
@Marsmensch We improved SDRAM with gold connectors, and the Turbo Pack/Mega Pack are QAed with the exact components they will ship with (Turbo ships assembled after passing QA).
I hope this will reduce potential RMA issues to 0. I don't like when customers don't have a great experience
If I manage to secure one of the bundles. Il test whatever you want me to test. (Il most likely need eli5 instructions but il test whatever I can)
Eli5 = explain like I'm 5. So simple instructions
i seemed to get quite lucky that my MisterPi just... 'worked' generally speaking, the Dual BT/Wifi dongle was a bit of bust but other than that..
my toddcase is in my town.....
so close to actually plugging this friggin thing into my tv instead of testing it with portable monitors in my office
My Mister Pi has been great with no issues. Looking forward to getting it in a case, mine finally shipped.
I’m going out of town for two days, just as my Todd case arrives. I have angered God and now must pay my penance
@strong falcon do you have any RMA plans for folks who’s ram isn’t stable at lower freqs (even using the “lifted” method)?
Is the PC XT core still not working on MiSTer Pi?
Stripped a USB 3.0 cable back and wired it up to a loose Raspberry Pi I had and am now rocking some MT-32 audio. It sounds great!
Are you using a HAT of any kind or just wired to the IO pins?
DuPont connectors on the Pi’s GPIO pins
I have a few extra Pi 3's I was thinking about doing the same, do you have a pic of the setup?
Used the pinout from the wiki
https://github.com/dwhinham/mt32-pi/wiki/MiSTer-FPGA%3A-Interface-pinout
I was able to boot backgammon with it once. Used the bios from here: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=8436
Ooo
Does that have a bay for a SSD? If so, I love it!
Excellent, mutate the hell out of it, that's why I included the Fusion files. 🙂
Here's the original if anyone else wants to do the same, didn't realize we had a Mister Pi thread: https://www.printables.com/model/1026569-mister-pi-taki-udon-mega-pack-case
Uhm no, the extended size is just to accommodate the N64 SNAC adapter
Still love it!
I want to do the same, a Pi 2 Zero is already here. I wonder about the 100 Ohm resistor on the PCM_CLK line at https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Hardware_MiSTer/blob/master/releases/MT32Pi_lite.pdf . Does anyone know if/why it is necessary?
I've been tweaking my case design. Addressed the slight port misalignment and some other fitment and design tweaks. Will hopefully get the new filament tomorrow.
Looks like we have another great case on our hands for the pi
@gritty herald this made my day! Thank you! 🤣❤️
And it's always cool to see how people optimize thier design for 3d printers
time to update the website, you got the first MARS shipment
careful, that box might receive a c&d
Mars is out, love it
Mars Pi.
Love it!
Mine is sitting on my front porch :/
i was originally going to draw a penis on the box
That would be a dick move 🤣
wasn't enough room
Could have been an anthropomorphic penis throwing breadcrumbs for the little bootsector pigeon
... what?
So i got a CanaKit PiSwitch to use as a power switch and it doesnt work with longer usb c cords. No matter the power adapter if i use a long usb c cord the switch doesnt work. This is the second usb c switch ive tired i just want a usb c power switch why is it so difficult.
I aught to just buy a soldering iron and wire up my own at this point.
that’s super weird. how long are your USB C cables?
Im tring to use a 2 meter cord.
Ive tried the one the mister pi came with as well as one i have from Apple. Onlythe one the switch came with or a 1 meter cord seem to work.
I found a 1.5 meter cord from analogue that works. Thats long enough for what i need. I wish i knew why this thing is so finicky but at least i found a long enough cord that worrks.
Todd-a!
the video misled me when it said this would take me five mintues to put together. || it took 4 ||
Looking good
checked everything afterwards, seems good
there is one usb port that looks like it's got a little bit of extra plastic but i don't think it'll interfere with plugging stuff in
extremely happy you shipped the red buttons lol
Beside the sd card ?
checks yes
It’s probably a little bit of left over support material that’s in that area that I didn’t clean completely off. You can use something like a razor to lightly remove it
It should pop off
yeah if a) i get to needing seven USB ports and b) something has trouble fitting i was planning on just shaving it off but for right now doesn't seem like an issue
i like btw that you get a little glowing through the plastic from the LEDs so i can still reference them if need be without having them blasting out a million watts at all times
That’s a happy side effect lol
I was looking to buy this adapter, but hard to come by inEurope without paying high shipping costs.
Could this be a good alternative?
https://www.kiwi-electronics.com/en/usb-c-cable-with-switch-for-raspberry-pi-4-4433
Not sure but its worth a shot.
I believe the Canakit has some protection which this one does not, but I'm not sure how important that is
I have had zero problems with the canakit one for the raspberry pi 4 and mister pi
I have also some Mars at home 😁
FWIW - I can only get the Canakit switch working with its supplied AC adapter
and not, say, with an samsung adapter with usb c cable (used for phones?
Lucky you for not getting a dick instead!
OK - turns out the packaged MiSTer Pi USB-C cable didn't like the Canakit switch. Another cable worked with a generic 5v 3a psu, but did notice a drop in power. The official Pi 4 adapter also worked with the switch. The switches can potentially degrade the power, and the Pi 4 PSU are rated for 5.1v 3a (Canakit is rated higher at 5.1v 3.5a). Guessing that little 0.1v bump helps with these power switches
isn't it more because the pi 4 psu doesn't do PD
Late to this party but this looks sick, @gritty herald. thank you!
Also big ups to @prisma fjord for the rubber foot life hack (I’m not very bright so thank you for featuring this in your vid)
Thanks for the link! I was able to boot the provided MS-DOS vhd with the BIOS inside the zip on the MiSTer Pi!
Glad you like it
Any dicks in the package? 🤔
I cannot divulge the secret message here.
ahh the dont cover the screws part? haha
the tiniest bit of advice that future you will be happy you followed
yeah dude. when you did that in the video it was a true "oh for fucks sake I'm an idiot" moment
haha you dont know til you know but now you will NEVER forget it
I kinda thought that was common knowledge
I watched a mid 20s dude at the post office yesterday not know he had to write the address ON the package...he thought the window worker did that for him
never assume anything is common knowledge 🤣
I dropped out. Ain’t no big thing lol
I wonder if most of the issues people are having with the MiSTer Pi is because they are using the rather problematic enclosed usb-c cable?
The cable is causing issues?
yeah, mine was bad
Also, for folks with bad ram, I was told on taki's discord to do RMAs because they will replace ram
I think I need to have my ram replaced
What do they define as bad ram though
I was in talks with support and then when the 64 core was adjusted the talks ended lol
and I went FOREVER...all I got was debt lolol
What are they doing about the incorrectly built AV boards with wrong resistors?
MFA but the words "fine" and "art" are in it lol
Id class any ram that fails the first memtest. (The standard one that hasn't been changed)
That also runs at the advertised speed.
not sure. I submitted an email with my memtest results, that it wasn't stable at 62.5
Yeah that I understand, mine is fine with the regular memtest. I'd still like to try the older 64 core with a different taki sdram module though
I'd probably just buy one at $20
Not sure. All we know is batch 2 is delayed due to the cases I think, there's some different ram too.
yeah I mean you could make the argument that we don't know what other problems haven't been discovered yet
But I've not seen anything to do with the io board.
I do recall seeing a post where someone replaced the caps on that io board and it fixed the issue.
(unless I dreamt it)
also, on Taki's discord, the folks there are catagorizing the ram issue as only affecting a few people. if that is true, then she should be easy to RMA for the folks who are affected
Message support again? They just got back to me last weekend about my ram, had me run tests at 140 for high and low chips. Once it showed failing on the low chip they sent me a replacement. Still waiting for it to arrive.
replacing them, I believe. most boards here seem to have the correct, hand-soldered capcitors, so I dunno if anyone has done an RMA
That seems like a much more explicit fault than mine tbh. I've tried a lot of cores and haven't had issues since the 64 core. Besides sound in Shadow of the Beast II at least
That one looks exactly like one that I've got that doesn't work at all
that looks like the one that works with my pi 4 psu but not my pd ones. someone in the taki udon discord noticed that it drops the current down too
though with my basic setup it was fine
Hmm think I'll wait for now with buying a switch tehn
i went the smart plug route and its been pretty good
Don't you peeps have extension leads with individual switches?
This is a great 4A PSU that comes with a switch already if anyone is interested (I have one myself): https://a.co/d/6eEU08b
even if i did my extension lead is behind my tv unit
Ahh, that makes sense.
My extension lead is to the side. (Used to be 6 sockets but replaced it with 4)
The one with power monitoring was like £1 more so I got that. Cool to see how little power this thing draws
Like 7/8W
That's pretty neat.
Does anyone know how to enable voltage on the VGA connector? Would prefer not to have to power my active svideo adapter externally
I thought I remember there being a jumper but I couldnt find it readily
Iirc the jumper is near the vga output.
I have but I seem to need the usbc cable plugged in to get video. Im gonna check for a jumper
Busy printing the back half of my case. Should be able to validate that the Mister Pi model is accurate when it's done. If it is I'll share it soon. In the meantime I split it into separable components. Hopefully it helps someone design a case - it's pretty easy to just work off projections once you have a model like this.
Thanks!
Does this run the PC-XT core?
At some point the simulacrum becomes reality.
i have a similar model for the boards
That's awesome! A little more detailed haha.
case design is soooooo much easier when you have something accurate to work with
haha
and you can get the step files for the USB board and IO boards from the MiSTer github
Ah I didn't see. I briefly looked and found the gerbers and I guess you could convert that to 3D. But figuring it out and modelling is part of the fun.
indeed
Sometimes when I get pcbs made I print out a 3d model so I can visualize them better
finishing up my TapTo add-on for the MiSTer stack
Should work on most any MiSTer setup that uses the normal mounting screws
Uh this extremely rules
Smart 3D printer people…. Would an Ender 5 be worth playing with if it were offered for free? Or is this one of the printer is the hobby printers? lol.
I’d say it’s a hobby printer. For free? Why not. Play with it and learn, but realise that prints can be better and easier.
Yeah I don’t really want my hobby to be the printer
I’m getting an invoice for a P1S with AMS. 😬
Yeah I get this. I enjoyed tinkering but now I’m so over it. I just want it to work.
P1S ams combo is on my short list for their Black Friday sale
Sadly I won’t be able to take advantage of that.
I had a Ender 5 and CR6 they nearly put me off 3D printing for good
Then i picked up a Bambu P1P
Happy with it? Just works?
Its a reliable tool
Realistically a A1 would do me well but I do so much wrenching in the garage that it would be nice to be able to do some of the more advanced filaments if I ever need
with bambu you just send and walk away
how they achieve the quality at the speed they print still amazes me after nearly two years
Same but I don’t want another bedslinger. And I want something closed.
The only part ive replaced so far is the nozzle assembly but that is just general wear and tear
Yeah, nozzles are consumables.
I replaced one this week. An E3D v5 clone extruder. It’s such a pain.
After getting Todd’s case, I’m pretty much sold on a bambu. It doesn’t look 3d printed
Do we think they will replace the x1c soon? I dunno what printer product cycles are like
I got SNAC adapters from Nat yesterday and liked the prints so much I asked how they were printed. X1C.
I believe they have pushed the new printers back until next year
There’s a model above the X1C being teased
But I don’t think the X1 is going anywhere
The new model is supposed to be higher end, probably will run in the 2k+ range
Bambus Black Friday sales start in a couple of days too
i'm guessing Bambus new high end printer will probably be a larger format machine. I'm holding out for a 350 or 400 cubed
that's what I want
wait a second.. what's this talk about a bad USB-c cable included with Mister Pi? what would be the symptoms, and how would I test it? I guess I could just replace it preemptively. Still waiting for my AV Board RMA to arrive so my CRT is just a lonely guy until then
¯_(ツ)_/¯ mine stopped supplying power
Coming soon: Retro Frog TapTo add-on for your @TakiUdon_ MiSTer Pi or regular MiSTer FPGA stack.
Bolts right onto the bottom and should fit most enclosures including the passive cooled metal enclosure by @MisterAddons…
Hopefully soon it drops. I like the look of that blue one.
Not sure if il try and get one of his cases. Il probably just aim to get the bundle without it. (Guessing the turbo pack might be more popular)
Are all of those still going to be available for batch 1 buyers? I didn't really like the opaque third one so I bought one of these a few weeks ago https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister-pi-case-acrylic/
but I really like the blue and black ones there.. would consider ordering it despite that if it's just shipping still
I was under the impression that it'll just be the one on the right for batch 1 buyers
I think I've taken my Mister Pi apart even more than @faint dune has at this point.
Challenge accepted
How fast can you field strip a full stack?
New challenge, field strip, reassemble, pair controller and launch update_all or Memtest
Does memtest have to pass or can I save time by not fitting the memory?
I was probably last to the MiSTer Pi Retro Frog case party, but in case anyone is on the fence, this thing rocks. Print quality is really amazing and adds polish to the MiSTer Pi stack
I love it!
glad you like it
it's true. i got to finally take mine out of its hiding place and hook it up to the tv 😂
As someone who's been the family tech support for various hobby grade printers over a decade. Get a P1S with the AMS. It is so painless.
We had a print failure that broke the heating element wires. It took me about an hour to fix with a replacement and all I needed was a single allen wrench.
I think I want the x1c, I just have FOMO about whatever they are announcing next year
Tried using the one from my canakit Pi 4B and it did not work at all.
Anyone get the MT-32 pi lite to work on the MiSTer mega pack? I built one up from PCBs from https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister-fpga-pcbs-printed-circuit-boards/ but have no sound. I set it up using the mister mt-32 pi installer script. The mt-32 pi ACT light works, the MiSTer OSD works and shows the mt-32 pi. mt-32 pi is set to use i2s for audio output. Config files are set correctly. No idea how to diagnose this short of buying a scope, everything beeps out for continuity like it is supposed to. Anyone have any luck with the mt-32 pi lite?
@gritty herald was wondering about the tapto package you're working on, what do I need to buy apart from that to make it work?
Just Tapto/nfc cards
I want to connect a PN532 via I²C to the bare I/O board. I soldered the pins to connect to the main board and to connect to the NFC board, but nothing is showing up with i2cdetect. Are there any pins I’m missing? Should I use the RTC connector instead?
Where did you connect it to?
It works perfectly fine off the I2c pins of the RTC connector, this much I know. Not sure if the other i2c pins are even usable in the MiSTer setup, they may need different dip/switch settings
The I/O board should be using them for the buttons and LEDs, but of course my bare board isn’t so I can’t be sure
https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?p=90908#p90908 Here's how I hooked it up, together with the OLED display
Can you post the photo here? I’m not a member in there
That worked! But now my NFC cards don’t 😔 time to debug that
make sure you set up the tapto.ini to actually read from the right port
connection_string=pn532_i2c:/dev/i2c-2
I am a big fan of the tapto life mobile app, saves having the need for a reader plugged in
@strong falcon Regarding this comment --> https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?p=91569#p91569 - the MegaCD core already has the framework updates needed for the new boards. MegaCD's framework is up to date with this build of the template --> https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Template_MiSTer/tree/2a57c0badd2a4ac667d4a335d1a149d0d5a443a4. the picture attached shows the only changes to the framework done since the megacd core was updated, none should have any impact on the new IO board.
I'm going to assume this user is accidentally misunderstanding what you said.
The issue doesn’t affect everybody
I do have sound issues through the analog output on those cores though
also turning on composite blend fixed it? O_o
Blended the audio. Twofer
right, because only some people had the wrong capacitor values on c14 and c15 apparently, retroremake.co has done some RMA's i guess
yeah, that part is weird, sounds like a marginal timing issue if true
The new IO boards + DE10 Nano = ruined audio for MegaCD. That's basically what I said.
Same for PSX with DE10
From here: #1287682359658807317 message
yeah the user must have misunderstood you then
because they claimed it was because the cores were so old which is almost certainly unrelated
given the phase shift alleviated some issues that's curious because then it implies that the trace lengths are causing an issue with that dac or something... but ricardo is claiming to not have the same issue with his board. would be nice to know the root cause.
Nope. I have the correct capacitors and I have issues
Nah. Smells like metastability
i just received my replacement AV Pro RMA from Taki and am happy to report analog audio is no longer muffled. my old board had the chunky capacitors on c14 and c15 and the new one has the slimmer ones... they still were hand soldered on there, but at least it's fixed
the LED used for toslink is noticeably smaller, and actually looks orange which I found strange. I'll honestly probably never test it though because I am using it on a CRT
How's the audio with analog audio on MegaCD and PSX cores?
i don't have MegaCD set up, but I can test PSX... what would be a good way to test PSX? Just any game?
intro to parasite eve
ok.. i'll report back in a few min
if we are talking about the opening scene that plays starting with the Statue of Liberty, I listened to the whole 3-4 min intro and it was jamming hard and sounded great to me. No crackling or anything like that. I've never seen or heard it before so I have nothing to compare it against
I will have a check tomorrow, I don't remember any audio issues on the Mega CD core with my DE10 but it's a core that doesn't get used much .....
Consider yourself one of the lucky ones not being affected by this issue
well I did spend several weeks in the RMA process and sending the package to them was a pain (no prepaid label) but I am glad they got me a good replacement
oh really? good to know
sonic cd and snatcher were fine via analog on my taki setup
This is according to Taki
I don't have an analogue board on any of my de10nanos
ah 👀
(and yes I could test the taki board on one of them but...maaaaan)
after assembling my case i would prefer not to have to ever do that again so thank you for your service lol
Is this only with the 9.2 IO board ?
Ya #1287682359658807317 message
Yeah seems something odd is going on as I read Ricardo states his 9.2 boards don't have the issue
yeah, I dunno. something fishy is going on. I hope it's because we have 3 main boards instead of one, and there are variances because that will eventually get sorted
The 9.2 is the open source design which all sellers use
Wondering if Ricardo tweaked the original board specs? In case he did it, I wonder if the license of these boards require the changes to be open as well?
Might be worth checking with Nat at MiSTerFPGAUK to see if he has come across any issues with the 9.2 design
I would have thought if there was it would be well reported by now though
yeah, you would think it wouldn't just be taki board folks reporting it
IIRC I’ve seen people reporting analog audio related issues long before Taki’s AV board was released
the quality of the 3.5mm delivered audio on the 6.1 board isn't great but it doesn't crackle
and optical is fine of course
is optical fine on the taki boards with crackle?
that's a good question. I can test it
then you can just get one of those $5 prozor dacs or whatever
I feel attacked
Have you used optical for the MA io board? I didn't get any sound last i tried with a mini toslink to toslink cable. Not sure if i need to toggle anything.
optical is fine on the taki board
heard the crackle as soon as I did analog
Yep! Optical has zero issues
I can test the 6.2 io board (or whatever comes with the qmtech stack) when I get back home
I don't use optical because he fixed the output through the rca cables on the universal cable to be clean
I think you might have to toggle the switch on the de10 though?
Hmm yeah i wonder if I can do both rca and optical at the same time.
Well, I reported earlier that the RMA'd AV Pro @strong falcon sent me had fixed my muffled audio problem. Even ran the Parasite Eve intro on PS1 with no issues. Just loaded the N64 core just now and it is a crackly mess.. sounds terrible. Crackles and pops the entire time in every game. I am going to try the Turbo core and see if any difference. Does anybody else have this issue with N64 core and is there a known solution? I tried lowering the core and global volumes and crackling and popping did not go away at all.
NES core, Ps1 core, SNES core no issues so it's strange
Press x
I asked him to specifically test Mega CD two weeks ago and I didn't hear anything back. Trace length wouldn't make it fail on a DE10 though. The board wasn't modified from the original source files.
It's possible. SDRAM specs were modified and not released back to GitHub (we did it two weeks ago after finding out)
analog audio is perfect in the turbo n64 core, and a garbled crackly mess in the current (20240928.rbf) core. Very strange but since turbo is fine at least it'll be fixable
You have some novel issue. I'd check the old N64 shift cores that were made last month to see if one doesn't have audio issues.
Leave it to me to have a novel issue. I went to the previous release (20240807) and it does play all games clearly. I thought the newest core used a new shift, and apparently it's not good for my AV board and mine alone 🤷♂️
I would reseat the board. The 240 shift shouldn't introduce a new issue like that.
The crackling analog audio is probably a meta stability issue with the framework and it seems it’s not restricted to the MegaCD and PSX core then
The new shift fixes issue with some SDRAM. The crackling analog audio is a completely different issue and it's not restricted to the AV boards from Taki
interesting.. I just don't understand why one version of the n64 core has the issue and the next one is clear as can be without touching the hardware. I'll try reseating tomorrow morning and see what happens
It's a really intriguing issue. In some cores, even enabling completely unrelated settings will sometimes fix the issue for some people. Here's a case of someone that has the issue "fixed" on the MegaCD core by enabling the composite blend feature: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?p=91346#p91346
Enabling some features could maybe change the FPGA timings a bit allowing for the "correction" of the issue? I don't know!
Only time (and maybe Sorg) will tell!
Until then, people having this issue should just use this DAC and move along: https://www.amazon.com/PROZOR-Digital-Converter-Optical-Toslink/dp/B00KNNSKV0/ref=sr_1_4
PROZOR Digital to Analog Audio Converter converts coaxial or toslink digital PCM audio signals to analog L/R RCA and 3.5mm Jack audio. It also can be used for PS3, XBox, Blue-ray player, HD DVD, etc. which have no RCA(L/R) outputs or 3.5mm Jack output. Features: Converts coaxial or toslink digita...
I will send a message to Nat later just to confirm if he has come across this issue with the 9.2 board and if he changed anything on the stock design for his boards
Be good to get another source
Taki has followed the specs for his AV board, so if others did the same, those should be affected as well
The 6.1 design and QMtech should be unaffected
I can also test the Retro Castle board as I have one on my DE10 build
The only issues I heard about before was when the core wasn't updated for the framework changes but that shouldn't affect many cores now including MegaCD
yup as expected. I’d be curious to see how it performs with your de10 build and 9.2 board
I have sent a message to Nat asking if he has come across the issue and if he made any changes to the stock design
Is there anything that doesn't work on the Qmtech mister stack? I think it also has built in RTC right?
No it works fine and RTC is built into the IO board. The battery holder is on the underside of the board
If I wanted to add another ram module to the Qmtech board that has soldered ram. Is that possible?
Yes but you would have to remove the IO board.
There is no need for dual SDram
Yeah it was just in case some arcade core might need duel ram.
Oh it was definitive at one point ....
Heard back from Nat and he confirms what Ricardo was saying no reported issues with his 9.2 IO boards
Nah! Wrong capacitors is a hardware issue and unrelated to the one we’re talking here as it even affects optical audio.
Eventual crackling in random cores is not caused by wrong capacitors
I asked if he had any reports of the crackling though
Hence why he stated no feedback for any sound issues. I didn't ask about the capacitor issue
If the crackling audio issue was due to the stock design it should affect all the 9.2 boards I would have thought ?
The issue exists but it doesn’t affect all boards. This is what leads a few people to think this could be related to metastability in the MiSTer framework
Yeah maybe but it's a framework issue, you would see it from other vendors products
It would be easier to debug if it really affected all the 9.2 boards
There are reports in the forums of people having the exactly same issue even before Taki boards existed
I think I have linked an example a few posts above
I think the vast majority of people are just using HDMI and didn’t even bother to test analog audio output on their 9.2 boards
Maybe but also it took time for all cores to be updated to the new framework which might account for some of the earlier issues
It's an interesting issue
Yeah it really is an intriguing one
I would have thought there would be a decent amount of analogue users too especially buying from Ricardo and Nat
I had to lower the global volume on my Pi since it's analog audio was noticeably louder than my older MA IO board and that helped, but I ended up switching to optical as a just in case
Crackling issue doesn’t seem to affect older (pre 9.2) designs
Right - just noting that my MiSTer Pi's analog audio was louder (and blown out/crackling) than another MiSTer's older board when doing a direct comparison
Yep! I did notice the same here
no audio or other problems with misteraddons analog IO pros or v1/v2 mistercades. (At least for my 5 setups)
Not sure it’s a widespread problem or just this new hardware
Yeah true analog io pro was basically done when Sorg created the 9.2 so not sure if much fed back into it
It just seems odd with other sellers offering the same 9.2 stock design but have had no reports of the same issue
Either way not sure if blaming mister framework makes sense, somehow porkchop releases rafts of hardware without issues with mister platform 🤷🏼♂️
Yeah blaming the framework doesn't make much sense
At least without evidence. Sorg is so anal it seems hard to believe he F’d up with 9.2 but who knows he’s human
Maybe.
@wary turret Have you checked Shadow of the Beast 2 on MegaCD with the MA 9.2 board? I’m sure it will be fine, but that has been the one that I think anyone with a problematic taki 9.2 hears static with (once the gameplay starts - just keep hitting start)
I can check it tomorrow when I’m back home (like falafel said it’s actually his own design not 9.2, Sorg came out of left field with that and pork had been working on a board with improved output for quite a while prior)
I reseated the AV Pro board and the L bracket board and same exact popping and crackling on 20240928 core. I even tried leaving the L bracket .5mm above being fully seated and nothing changed. I'll just use the older n64 core and maybe some day it will be updated again and I won't have the issue on it
I don’t think anyone is blaming anything here. Framework metastability is just a hypothesis. At least until anyone bring facts
Yup, it could be a meta stability issue as well.
Has anyone reported crackling via HDMI? I was having some rough sounding audio on PSX core the other day playing Megaman Legends. Had this happen a couple times, and not at all other times. Couldn't find a way to reproduce it once it went away.
Someone get Zuckerberg on the phone
Never heard about crackling over HDMI or optical/DAC
on the mister pi?
Yes
what part of mega man legends? I can take a look assuming I don’t have to play for very long
It was pretty deep in, like four or five hours. Noticed it in the game's vocals, stuttering sound like a CD skipping. The game took several hours to beat, played it a short amount across several nights and only had it happen a couple times.
post your save if you can
Just resharing here in case any Mister Pi users aren't checking the N64 channel. Sorry for the spam lol. https://makerworld.com/en/models/733182
This is an N64 themed case for the Retro Remake Mister Pi full stack.PrintingEverything was printed on a P1S with AMS using the 0.16 layer height quality preset.Bottom: Oriented flat with the base on the bed. Used matte black PLA for the body, black PLA+ for the feet to make them glossier, and matte grey PLA for the controller ports. No supports...
Amazing.
Amazing print quality and great design! I feel the top could use some adaptive layer thickness or just straight up lower throughout
Nice!
Thanks! Yeah the top can definitely be better! A different orientation could help too.
Could an ironing layer on the top help?
Possibly!
I also finished my case today 😁
@untold kayak the case is done buddy!
Looks great!
It's a great design.
Looks incredible. Really digging the swappable snac module idea. 🔥
@weary rain
Gonna have to buy you a laser cutter soon
This is a really good design, begging to be done on a nice resin printer to hide the layer lines. You might have someone do it up in the translucent color resin, would look a lot like the transparent N64 models 🙂
Considering trying to print in transparent petg when I get my printer
that also needs some specific settings, which i think you can find on printables
wet sanding and headlight polish is also recommended if you want truly transparent petg
This guide shows a few recommended settings for getting transparent PETG prints.
Looks like Bambu has some in their wiki
yeah, that looks like the correct settings
No
You are a legend
Are there any cases being sold in EU yet?
the lack of a power switch is driving me nuts and ordering a usb-c cable with a switch will take too long.
If I just take two USB-C breakout boards and wire a switch across the +vbus that would work the same?
https://ca.robotshop.com/cdn/shop/files/usb-c-breakout-board-3_1024x.webp?v=1720525688
and connect ground of course. Does there need to be any other pins connected for the handshake if its just power?
How about former EU? https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister-pi-case-acrylic/
Yeah I am aware of that and may in fact order one. Former eu is the 2nd best option i guess 😀
Just wanted to report that I experience the crackling analog audio on a 9.2 board from misterfpga.co.uk. I'm using a DE10 nano and v2.9 SDRAM from MisterAddons. I hear it on both Shadow of the Beast II and Sonic CD's intro
I didn't have the issue on the Parasite Eve intro before the main menu appears
Yeah, I didn’t have issue in parasite eve. Just shadow of the beast. I should check Sonic
Thanks for reporting this!
Good at least we have some evidence on other boards now
Thank you so much! ❤️
I've experienced similar issues. Most of the problems I've seen on the Pi forum I've encountered on the DE10 as well and can be resolved with configuration settings. MiSTer offers many audio settings, and each core has its own settings as well. Unfiltered analog audio output can produce crackling when the FPGA gets busy. Switching to HDMI audio or using a mini-TOSLINK connector with a DAC (the jack doubles as a mini-TOSLINK connector) can help solve the issue.
I finished printing the entire thing in all white
I want to get it made with the correct colors via CNC
Okay thats.. pretty cool, ngl
I just ended up getting one fo the clear arcrlic shells from mister fpga, its quite nice but i've got the TapTo now, the MT32-pi, and looking at a tty2oled and .. yea, none of it really matches up or fits together 😄
How did it turn out?
Great
I printed the top plate an an angle to improve the look
Nice! Would love to see it. Please DM me photos if you don't want to post publicly.
I'm still learning the software
Please make sure to enable support when you print the top!
I have to order filament, Boss gave the A-OK to use the printer as much as I want as long as I supply materials. Just reading your notes on the website of what materials you used. If I click "enable support" that's all I need to do before slicing right?
Yeah, I'm still new to my P1S so I just went with its default support by cicking "enable support". That said, I used Support for PLA filament and it recommended setting the interface z distance to 0 so I went with it. Very happy with how the supported inside turned out but it was tricky removing the supports. Basically, supports will always be a pain in my experience.
I usually design models to avoid supports, but in this case it was necessary.
Which filaments are you going for?
I saw some recommendations to set the support interface to use petg if printing pla to make for easy removal
But these this is just YouTube knowledge lol
Yeah, saw that too. People seem to have good success with that.
Support for PLA filament appears to be a mix of PLA and TPU so it sticks a bit but not enough. And when you start pulling it off it gets stretchy. It was tricky to remove but left a great finish. As opposed to my old printer which just decided supports are part of the model now.
I'm still confused what printing at an angle does
FDM printing has higher resolution in the x and y directions and less in the z direction. For example, text printed flat relative to the bed will be more legible than text printed perpendicular to the bed.
Another example, if you printed the top half of my case upright, the top would look great. It would just be trickier with supports. And the layer lines won't line up with the bottom. And one of the visible sides would have the bed pattern on it (sometimes desirable, sometimes not).
I have the 9.2 AV pro i/o board (I have taki's mega pack). I do not have crackling audio over HDMI in the PSX core, just over analog out. I haven't tried TOSLINK.
Anyone with Taki's megapack been able to get the MT-32 pi LITE working? Mine works except no audio is being transmitted back over the User port. I asked earlier but no one with the megapack replied, only folks with old versions of the i/o boards. I checked everything I could for continuity, my only next option if I'm seriously the only person with this issue is to buy a cheap scope to see if I have a connection that beeps out fine but is nevertheless noisy or something.
I know. I was replying to a question someone asked.
Not sure, any recommendations? I'm going to order at least 4 spools and a print plate (just for fun, try different printed textures)
I mostly have experience with eSUN and SunLu. Both print fine. The Bambu filaments have RFID which is nice. They don't make their own filament though, so you can usually find the same filament without the RFID for cheaper.
You might ask on Taki's Discord. I think a couple ppl on there have MT-32 working.
I go this board which also uses the user port and it works great.
https://www.tindie.com/products/taviens/mt32pi-hat-for-zero-2w-model-raspberry-pi/
I plan to buy another X1C for the office. I haven't bothered to do multi-color prints at home because it generates too much waste.
I have one of those and it's great for the money
Thanks, I didn't even know Taki had a discord.
Nice - I wish I had a known working one to test. Mine clearly works, just no return of midi audio. Even the OSD works, shows sound bars on my TV when audio should be playing. EDIT: I think I figured out the issue. The schematic asks for a 100 ohm resistor (or some kind of button in pictures). I have NOTHING and R1 and R2 or at least one of them is on the I2S lines. Bet you a nickel that I get a resistor on the PCB and I'm golden.
Finally did this, no static. Man this game is lame
yuuup. but it's a good test game. ok, so misteraddons non-stock 9.2 board is fine (we shouldn't be surprised - Pork Quality Shit)
Maybe he’s a huge shadow of the beast II fan
If there’s one game that must work well..
Did you find an answer to this question? I was curious as well.
Perhaps it's time to raise the issue on GitHub to get Sorg to look at it ?
(None of the shadow of the beast games are really any good. The PCe CD port of the first game is about the best it gets)
I remember being mesmerized with the parallax scroll in first Shadow of the Beast on Amiga, and then getting bored as hell
The first game was a system seller on the Amiga, it did look amazing but sadly that is where it ended
The PCe CD port actually makes it playable, ported by DMA design who went on to create GTA
nope, haven't researched it further yet
is there an eta on batch 1 housings?
These are from @gritty herald and they are awesome https://www.etsy.com/listing/1787110746/mister-pi-compact-case-taki-udon-and
it’s a freebie (pay postage)
Ah! Right on!
This works good for me https://a.co/d/im0fbsL
I second that! Great quality PSU with high amperage and with an on-off switch
thanks for the suggestion, but I'm looking to create my own "console" like case which would require using a breakout board
I'm also not from the US and that power supply isn't available here anyway :(
I use this (but I don't know if it's helpful for what you're doing) https://www.canakit.com/raspberry-pi-4-on-off-power-switch.html
This is the breakout board I used in my build for having a power switch https://www.pololu.com/product/2808. You pass through your DC input into it, then it goes back out. Its also got two pins which you connect your momentary switch to, along with power LED pins. The DC out then goes to the unpopulated DC input on the MiSTer Pi next to the regular USB-C power connector.
The Pololu Pushbutton Power Switches are sophisticated power control alternatives to bulky mechanical switches. The main function is pushbutton-based latching power control, where one push turns on power and another push turns it off. Additional control inputs allow advanced applications such as automatic shutdown by the device being powered. ...
That sounds really cool!
I have some further strange testing to add to this. We have crappy speakers in the office and I cannot hear anything wrong with Mega CD using them. If I take the same hardware and SD home to use with my studio speakers, the audio is crap.
I wonder if it's also down to how sensitive your speakers/headphones are
When I moved my pc parts from a newer case to an older one. I plugged my iems in the front audio (via the case). And you could hear static and crackling noises.
But I'm willing to bet my normal non iem headset would work fine
do we know the output impedance of the 9.2 board? that tends to be a cause of problems, but don't ask me why, electronics are always way over my head
Just what I needed, another hobby.
Which model did you get???
Damn nice.
Ended up going A1 with the ams lite combo
Awesome! Hope you enjoy it! Make all the things haha.
I currently have a full bed printing silica gel holders.
Those are good colours. Grey is surprisingly versatile.
Yeah I figured they covered a lot of bases
And I wanted grey for some Gridfinity stuff
Plus I needed grey petg for a sunglasses clip for my car
I'm currently really enjoying SunLu PLA+ Sunny Orange.
Those bambus being $15.99 with the reusable spools after the discount were too tempting
I’ll switch to Amazon sourced filament after
Yeah it's a great deal.
I need a shiny gold to make a fantasy football league trophy anyway
And bambus silk didn’t qualify for the multi spool discount
So I’ll get it from Amazon
My local Bambu distributor put all the printers on sale right after I bought mine to match the Black Friday sale, but they don't have stock of any of them anyway. Kinda weird to put it on sale if you don't have it.
Unfortunately it's only the printers on sale. The spare parts and filament that I want is regular price.
There’s a microcenter 90 minutes from here, I could have saved on the $25 shipping but their sales tax is more in that state and I couldn’t use PayPal to get an extra 5x points on my Chase card
So it wasn’t really worth it. Plus like you said about the spare parts
I wanted to get in on the nozzle sale
Haha you're set with nozzles for a while.
Just don't try any special filaments through the 0.2 mm nozzles. Sorting out a clog is a pain. Or at least used to by on my E3D clone hotend.
Yeah I figured with the sale I might as well just grab the most common ones and the hardened 0.4 since it comes with a stainless 0.4.
@lyric gull If you were buying an x1c today, what would you buy?
In terms of accessories?
Do it.
In terms of spares, you don’t really need much for now. It comes with replacements for the consumables. And I think it comes with the gold textured PEI plate now. And the hardened steel nozzle should last ages in theory.
0.2mm nozzle is nice to have if you want to print thin details, text, etc
I also just got a SunLu Filadryer S4. You might want to consider how you’ll be storing filament. You might not need a dryer, just reusable silica gel.
Other than that, just get some filaments for the projects you have in mind and enjoy it.
Hot end assembly vs nozzle alone?
You can reuse the fan and silicone sock between nozzles.
Just depends on how lazy you are haha.
Bambu doesn't do standalone nozzles.. it's either the hotend, or the hotend assembly with heater and fan preinstalled.. it does come with one of course (0.4mm)
Maybe there will be a X2/P2 coming soon with some of the A1’s nice to haves lol
After their new flagship of course
I’m also not sure there’s really a compelling reason to get an X1 over a P1? I know it has lidar and some AI stuff that I see people say causes them headaches 🤷♂️
Oh, a good point is that afaik the lidar doesn't work with the gold textured PEI bed.
I'd much rather have the bed than the automated calibration. I've done some manual calibration, it's easy.
So the gold bed takes away one of the only X1 “upgrades”?
@faint dune What's your reasons for getting an X1C over a P1S?
Oh, I'm spreading old news.
The latest firmware brings significant improvements to the Bambu Textured PEI Plate calibration using the Micro Lidar, and it is now fully compatible with the automatic calibration process.
I am cursed with “I need the best thing” brain worms. It’s why it’s hard to decide on grabbing this now, or waiting until whatever large form thing they announce next year
Por que no los dos?
Because Todd thinks the new thing is going to be north of 2k and I don’t have infinite money brain worms, unfortunately
I never even bothered enclosing my P1P seeing as I mostly print PLA I never saw the point
My advice is get a P1S or A1 now, see how much you enjoy the hobby, and then get the new one if you want when they release it and sell your current printer if you want to.
My box of filament arrived today, should be able to try printing next week.
Can I try my hand at remixing something with the Bambu software without the printer?
Remixing usually involves making design changes. I'd rather use Fusion for that. You can get a free non-commercial licence.
I want to try remixing this for the QMTech case. You think fusion is best for that? https://www.printables.com/model/1007333-mister-pi-console-case-with-tapto-integration
Yup. Download the .step file. Don't try editing the .stl files.
The .step file gives you all the individual parts and the original geometry. The .stls are like compressed .jpgs.
I'm assuming it's this https://www.fusion3design.com/f3slic3r/
Take your 3D printing to the next level with F3Slic3r Fusion3 Design's advanced 3D printing software and slicer.
Nope, Autodesk Fusion. https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/personal
aha
The long awaited MiSTer Pi has finally arrived - but how does it compare to its QMTech and Terasic counterparts? In this video, I'll explore Retro Remake's MiSTer Pi in depth. We'll take a close look at what's on this board, examine some of its quirks, uncover some of its secrets, and I'll hopefully answer more questions than I raise.
🙏 A huge ...
Just finished that video
Pretty good analysis of the board. Especially that chip he dumped the contents off.
Taki’s DRM detected 😜
hmm, Taki DDR3 is CL13 vs CL9 of the DE10-Nano
Yeah I thought that was interesting
I knew Taki was spying on us!
Thats known since day 0
💀
Any word yet what's on it?
